One of our favorite places to stop on our annual Hwy 395 trips! Crinkle Cut Fries and old fashioned goodness and real malts!!! Yummy good

Pretty gosh darned good. Shakes are tasty but not super flavorful (banana kind of tasted like vanilla....). Onion rings and fries both are awesome. Burgers are good and reasonably priced. No gluten free options other than just putting it on top of shredded lettuce (not really a hand-held option like In-n-Out style). But flavors in the burger: good! Nice folks and a good interior place to sit and eat out of the sun. read more

Yaaaaas!! Swung by on way back from Yosemite. Delicious shakes and corn dogs. Omg hadn't had a corn dog since elementary school lol so that dog was like heaven. In a cute little town too. Definitely worth the pit stop. read more

Cute place, nice food. My cheeseburger was similar to IN-N-Out, and I enjoyed it. The lightly seasoned crinkly fries were yummy. We were too full to try the ice cream. This place is CASH ONLY, but there is an ATM/Bank next door. There is a shady park right across the street, as well as a shell gas station. The bathrooms are very clean, as was the entire restaurant. The cashier was very friendly. I would definitely stop here again. It was nice to go into the cool AC to order our food and wait for it, then we ate outside at the shaded picnic benches. Alright. Nothing terribly special with the food. The hamburger is pretty decent and is loaded with lettuce, tomato, and onions. The fries have great flavor but are a bit small. The taquitos are horrible. They're nothing like a real taquito. Flour tortilla that is deep fried and- well, there wasn't much flavor so I don't know what they put into it. Since it is the only old fashioned fast food restaurant in lone pine (I think) go for it. read more

First time eating here and it was delicious. The fries were amazing just a little disappointing that everything was a la carte and it was a little over priced. But overall good tasting food for a quick road trip pit stop. Service was outstanding and fast as well. read more

When traveling north or south along 395 and it can be really hot at times, let me recommend the Frosty Chalet for many kinds of soft ice cream delights. It is a no brainer stop for us when going to June Lake Loop, which we do several times per year. I was taken aback by the very courteous staff and how clean it is. I actually left my sunglasses there on one of the tables. Didn't realize it till we were 100 miles south, but called and must have gotten the owner who took down my address and mailed them to me. Then about 4 days later called to verify that I had received them. Who does that is California? It's worth the cool down effect at the very least, but we also ate of their cuisine and found it appropriately priced and very tasty. Put this on your GPS when on 395. Stopped here on our way from Tahoe to Vegas...food tasted ok, but definitely not worth writing home about and not worth the money. That being said you could tell it is run by a husband and wife and the food came out fast and the people polite. They do have a grassy eating area outside which was nice for the kids to run around in. Fyi the place is cash only. The parties on the burgers were small, I mean McDonalds $1 menu small. The fries ($2.50ish), which are crinkle fries, and onion rings ($3) probably came from Costco. The grilled cheese was pathetic to say the least, they took a hamburger bun, turned it inside out, put a slice or two of American cheese inside it and cooked it, clever but not worth $3.75. The hamburger was $4.50 and the cheeseburger was $5.00. None of the hot food was handmade and was unoriginal...we didn't get any ice cream, maybe that would have not be such a disappointment, but you'll have to read some other reviews. We spent $25 on two burgers, a grilled cheese, a corn dog, fries and onion rings and a large drink ($2.75 and no refills). We should have gone across the street to Carl's JR for less money and not left still hungry. But we like supporting local small businesses, so we don't feel too bad about eating there. They just need to step up their hot food game, or they won't get new repeat customers with new places. read more

Came here not knowing what to expect and I swear, hands down the best burger in town. Friendly staff, happy to serve, and very quick. I love the atmosphere and the vibe that this place gives off as well. Old time 60's/70's to be exact. There's a Carl's Jr across the street, but I would pick Frosty Chalet any day of the week because the food is fresh and the experience is much, much better! 5-Stars! read more

This place sat empty for quite a while - we moved to Lone Pine in 2011 and I don't know how long it had been empty. Several months ago, my son saw they were reopening and we waited in anticipation for them to open because we had heard how amazing the food had been. Well, we went today and what a letdown. My sister in law warned us they were overpriced for what you get. We didn't listen to her because her recommendations tend to be a little off. Maybe we should have listened. We decided to order 2 cheeseburgers, an order of onion rings and 2 medium drinks. We were a little dismayed that they didn't have combo meals, but whatever. We had heard that when they were open before the burgers were thick, juicy, and hand made...so imagine our sadness to see a superthin, pre-frozen patty. The bun was definitely the best part but for $3.99 per cheeseburger, I was expecting something a little better than generic diner food. Mine looked a little undercooked but I couldn't tell if it was the way the light and shadows or that it really was undercooked. It tasted like any burger you'd get at any nondescript dive diner you'd stop in while travelling. Meh. Then there were the onion rings. RIPOFF city. An order will set you back $2.79. We pulled the container out of the bag and couldn't believe our eyes - there were 6 onion rings. SIX rings. We could have gone to Carl's Jr across the street and gotten an order of fried zucchini that would have been sharable for .50 cents less. They weren't the worst onion rings we've ever had, but they certainly weren't the best. They were very, very bland. The final disappointment were the drinks. First off - the prices were rather high - 1.89 + tax for a medium (1.39 for a small & 2.49 for a large). After we finished our meals, went in to get a refill. But no refill. Seriously. I'm paying close to $2 for a medium drink in which the cup was 1/2 filled with ice (so in reality, we paid that much for half a glass of soda). I feel sorry for anyone who buys a small. Yeah, I understand they've just reopened and a small company but so are other places in town and they at least offer refills. By the time we went to our next destination - roughly 5 minutes away- both our stomachs were hurting and we felt sick. When we brought up how disappointed we were, the woman that was helping us said she sent her kids (3 of them) over with $20 and what they were able to get on that wasn't enough for them. A friend of ours said the ice cream was awful. By the time we got home, I was having serious stomach cramps (not the greatest feeling considering I'm 6 months pregnant) and my boyfriend suspects the ranch we got for the onion rings. They gave him a container that wasn't cold and he thinks they grabbed it off the counter (ranch is dairy based and needs to be refrigerated). Like I said, I understand they just reopened after god knows how long and there is some stiff competition, but the way they're going, they're not going to last too long. No one in town had anything good to say about them. *sigh* we had so hoped we would have another option for lunch when we head into town, but unless they step up their game quite a bit, we won't be back. read more

We stoped here on our way through town. The food was excellent. I had the cheeseburger, the meat was fresh. The inside was very clean. We sat outside on the patio, very refreshing when traveling. The bathrooms were especially clean. We will stop here every time. read more

On our way to Bishop for the 4th and wanted some ice cream, such a great place. The owners parents have owned it since 76 and he has worked hard the last year to get it up and running. We had chocolate and strawberry shakes; they were amazing! My husband and I finished ours and tried to steal the kids shakes for more! What a find! I know this place must be a long time go-to for many but we stumbled upon it heading home from Mammoth! Yum!!! It's clearly a winner on multiple levels...it has the charm of an old fashion order at the window burger joint, the food is hot, delicious and served with a smile....and the value, you can't find a better deal for a full dinner for 4...$30 and change! Not mention they have an enclosed "lounge" with several tables so you don't have to eat in the hot desert heat. It's cool and comfy! We'll be back for sure! read more

Fifteen minutes south of Manzanar, it was time to stop for gas and lunch in Lone Pine, CA. Frosty Chalet serves up burgers, cones, and shakes. They have a small interior seating area with A/C unit. We got some Double Cheeseburgers, Onions Rings, and large sodas. It was so hot at Manzanar, a large ice cold soda really hit the spot. The Double Cheeseburgers were pretty good for a road side stand. The patties were grilled on a flat-top making a nice caramelized outside topped with a good amount of lettuce, tomato, and pickles. The onion rings serving was a little small with only 7 rings to share. Probably would get fries next time. read more

Stopped here on Memorial Day weekend after missing it during opening times the past couple of years. The line inside was long, but went fairly quickly. (There's really no place for the line to go inside, so it was a bit crammed with the tables in there.) I had a peanut butter dipped chocolate/vanilla cone. Loved it! I have never had a peanut butter shell on a cone before and I was a bit hesitant to try it. The flavor was delicate and delicious. Highly recommend it. The people taking orders and serving were nice. Parking was easy, with spaces out front, on the side and in the back. read more

This place was a lifesaver while we were battling Burning Man traffic! Their food is the perfect pit stop meal. On our way up to Mammoth we spotted this cute little shack. The menu is simple. Burgers, fries, chicken strips and ice cream. Old fashioned American Food. Great customer service! We ordered some cheeseburgers, fries and malts. They were delicious! We got to enjoy them on there so cute turquoise benches and on side yard. This place is super clean and makes me feel like I've gone back to when times were simple. Have never in all my years going to the Sierras stopped by Frosty Chalet and I am talking about a long time. I guess getting older I am able to slow down enough to stop instead of my norm of full blast driving. Well I must say what a nice surprise. Old fashioned burgers, fries and OMG a chocolate malt. Both my wife and I couldn't remember the last time we had a malt. Employees were nice and place clean as can be. Burgers were small but that's how things used to be vs. today where everything is large and you can't even get your mouth over anything. I was giving it a 4 star but while writing this what along 395 can I compare it to. So yes a 5 star. read more

After reading the reviews I see other people have complained about cash only. I totally understand and respect a place that is cash only, BUT there is Not one sign posted anywhere and they tell you that after you wait in line and order. I brought it to the owners attention and she was super rude and said she'd been in business for 40 years and had no intention of putting up a sign and that she didn't care. Great seasoned crinkle fries and delicious cheeseburgers with thousand island. Water bowl and outdoor grass with shaded seating if you are traveling with your dog is really nice. Clean bathrooms and nice employees. Be prepared for a bit of a wait as everything is cooked fresh and there is usually a line. Two pick-up windows - one for shakes and ice cream and the other for food make it a bit faster for those only ordering treats. read more
