When I moved away from denton this was the place I told people about. Coming here is like traveling back in time. The aesthetic is a bit grungy yet inexplicably perfect. I've been frequenting Frosty for four years now. First and foremost, I'm not a young woman, and yet, I've always received fine service and excellent food. Their root beer is, indeed, life-changing. Their burgers are fantastic, especially for the price, and their shakes and ice cream are great old-fashioned treats. Of course the building is run down. Of course the owner is somewhat surly. Food is okay, root beer and shakes are fantastic. Can't say I'd pick this as my top choice for lunch/dinner, but on a hot summer day Frosty's is a great place to go for a cool drink. Stumbled on this place a month ago and now it's a weekly stop. The burgers are thin fried burgers so order a double or triple if you like a lot of meet. Hot dogs are fried and perfect every time, crinkle cut fries and tater tots round out the food I have tried and liked so far... We are picky about burger joints and this one is the real deal. Home made root beer you can buy by the gallon (you bring your own container and they fill it for you). I had a horse and would ride with friends onto the (then) gravel parking lot and the owner would run us off cause our horses would poop and he'd have to clean it up. I am SHOCKED by the "meh" and bad reviews I've read about this place! I've lived in the area for 3 years and never tried it until recently. I was amazed by the quick and friendly service (the owner's son works at the front counter making all of the drinks, checking people out, dispensing orders...) and the extraordinary home-made root beer and food. The onion rings=crispy outside, tender inside, chili dog=delicious, the milk shakes=like any great, old-fashioned soda fountain. Definitely one of Denton's great hidden treasures and I'm not only going back, I'm bringing a crowd with me! read more

By far my FAVORITE restaurant. Love the atmosphere and it's classic 50s feel, the music playing is always good, cool Galaga machine. Fun to sit outside during the summer. I come here after every home UNT game unless I stick around at the game and its already closed. As far as the Root Beer/ Root Beer Float- Sometimes served in a frosty mug and by far the best root beer I have ever had. Made in-restaurant. Most of the time though, I order the Chocolate Shake. My favorite shake in the world. I had a chocolate shake here and the next week I had one at my local Sonic...Sonic not even close. Burger is great and the chicken sandwiches are excellent. Good menu with lots of choices! VERY Friendly owners and staff. Sure, they have a sense of humor and will mess with you sometimes, but they are always helpful (shown by the fact that Patrick comments and personally thanks each reviewer) and are never mean. Huge fan of Frosty's! This is one of my favourite places to eat. Great food, great atmosphere and a (usually) awesome staff (I'll come back to this). As many other reviewers have stated, you must have a root beer at Frosty's, It's the best and you can buy it by the gallon (Provided that they have containers available. I'm sure you could bring your own as well). The food here is always good. It's not amazing, but you get what you pay for (Which is a stellar deal). I've always been a big supporter of the burgers but find my regular order changing to corn dogs. My usual also comes with a chocolate malt (extra malt), root beer and onion rings. I haven't had anything here that I was dissatisfied with. Up until recently, I have never had a bad experience at Mr.Frosty's but this last Sunday, my girlfriend and I, who come together all the time, found ourselves in a very uncomfortable position. The usual guy at the front (Patrick) was not working. I had an older gentleman at the front (Looks like Patrick, possibly his father?) whom, when I placed my order, criticized my order of extra malt. He told the man preparing my shake to add extra malt, however when I received my malt, I could hardly taste the malt (Let it be known that I am a HUGE fan of malt powder. Most people would probably be fine with the regular amount of malt). When I said that it could use more malt, I was told that I "didn't know how it should taste" and that I shouldn't mess with their "formulas". I sat down at my table at this and went back when the customers behind me had finished their orders. I requested more malt powder and was then told that he did not ever add in extra malt powder and then I requested more to which he said "you wouldn't even have known the difference if I had not said anything". I got my malt back. Still could hardly taste the malt powder. Didn't say anything else because I wasn't going to fight with this man, I was already ready to leave. Don't let my bad experience not let you go, Frosty's is the best and I will continue to go regularly. Just hope that when you go, Patrick is working. I have to say, everyone is right about the root beer. It is pretty fantastic! I've been going to Mr. Frosty's (that's what the cool kids call it) regularly for over 5 years now. I had to chuckle at the "pervert" comment that one reviewer made. There is nothing creepy or unfriendly about about the staff. Mr. Webb and Patrick are always kind to my family and me. If Mr. Webb were ever to not be particularly chatty with me, I'd chalk it up to a bad day or him being tired. Ya know, it is not easy running a business/es, and he may have just not felt like answering 50 questions (about things that one can find using google, btw) regarding its origin and its decor at that moment. Geez. Anyway, the food speaks for itself. I never eaten anything that was NOT delicious there. I love the chili cheese fries and chili cheese dogs...and who car forget the root beer?! Whoever was behind the counter was rude and condescending because my girl changed her mind and got a hot dog instead of a burger. The guy even laughed in our face and turned his back to us while we were in the process of ordering. This place has the BEST root beer in Denton (and I'd venture to say the entire state of Texas). Forget A&W and Barq's because the root beer at Frosty's is what root beer should taste like. Just exactly what you would expect from a simple burger and hotdog joint. Nothing more or less. Sure the decor could use some updating but the Burgers are just that Burgers. What makes this place stand out however is the quick service and the ROOTBEER!! I love this stuff. I would highly recommend it and have the Rootbeer FREEZE. Love this place! I've been coming here for years and the food is just as great as the first time plus they have the best rootbeer.

I had heard about this restaurant for weeks and decided I would try it when I was in Denton one day. The comments I heard from others was that it was great food and the root beer floats were the best ever. I ordered the number 3 without cheese, fries and a root beer float. The hamburger was very similar to Whataburger which, unlike most Texans, I do not consider a great hamburger. The number 3 I had was slightly better, though, than Whataburger. The fries were so so but they were tastier than some of the chain restaurants out there. The root beer float was very good, but I have had better at least 5 times in my life. Overall, I would give Mr. Frosty a 6 out of 10 for the hamburger, a 6 out of 10 for the fries, and a 7 or 8 out of 10 for the root beer float. If I lived in Denton, I would probably eat at Mr. Frosty about once a month or once ever two months; however, it would not make my every week list for restaurants. Everyone has their own tastes, so Mr. Frosty might be great for some, but not for others. Each to his or her own is the best I can put it. It is better than McDonald's, Burger King, Whataburger, A&W, In and Out, Wendy's, Sonic and the like, but below Smash Burger, Twisted Root, Jerry's Hot Dogs in Dallas, and some of the others. read more

Go for the food not the service! Older gentleman with the salt and pepper hair wearing his glasses on his forehead taking the orders was less than friendly. My first time here and he asked a question so fast I couldn't understand him. Seemed put off when I asked him to repeat. Also when I told him my name and started to spell it for him (since it is a hard name) he just wrote down a random name. Had to remember what it was for when my order was ready!! He repeated a customers order out loud incorrectly to the line and when the customer corrected him he yelled out "customer changed her mind and wants....". Heard another customer ask how much something was prior to ordering...he didn't answer but just rang it up and barked "$5.xx). 1 star for service. Chili cheese tator tots were the best I ever had. Solid 5 stars. Burger was an average fast food burger and would give it 3 stars (based on a fast food burger). If you want an actual good burger there are way too many other places in Denton to go. Likely wouldn't return unless I was craving chili cheese tator tots and knew the rude guy wasn't working! read more
