She was not very personable and really did not offer up any suggestions. The inside is very coffee house which I love. After 30-minutes, I received a text and to reply if I was on my way. We sat outside - shared a large picnic table with another couple. We ordered the quinoa bowl with tofu and corned beef hash. Seated immediately. Our waitress was very nice, but disappeared after our order was placed. Apparently it was the end of her shift, but nobody ever told us that until an hour went by without us getting our food or water refilled. The food was still warm when we received it, but you could tell the grits had been sitting out a while. We finally asked a random waitress for our bill & explained to her the situation, and she apologized and gave us a great discount. I was ready to write a bad review until the waitress made things right by giving us a discount and continuously apologizing. I didn't know what good coffee was until I stopped by at frothy monkey a few years back. I absolutely love their mocha and turtle lattes! The cheese boards are lovely! They recently brought back "The Betsy" which is their chicken salad sandwich after being off the menu for a few years. I highly recommend pairing it with their tomato basil soup! There is outdoor and indoor seating which provide a great place to study or just catch up with friends. If you don't see any available parallel parking in the front entrance, there is an additional parking lot in the back (which I prefer to park in). A good meal starts with good service. And Anna was the best waitress. She was incredible. We had the avocado toast which was ok, bacon was good, quite tasty actually. I had a black coffee, and my wife had a latte. Both were good. Our daughter had the Havana Latte. THAT was tasty. This morning I had an early meeting so I needed to get my coffee quickly. I know that's usually difficult at Frothy Monkey so I made sure that I was the first customer to arrive at 7am. I was the first person to place my order but as I waited for my coffee I noticed that they first made a latte for another employee...and I thought "okay, they need their coffee too" so I patiently waited. However, after waiting while they served about 20 other customers who were behind me in line and while I watched the employees chatting with customers who they must also be their friends, I grew increasingly puzzled as to what was going on. I am sure I had a puzzled look on my face and the young woman making coffee said something like " can I help you?" I responded "I am waiting on my coffee. I was the first person to order this morning and I am not sure why I haven't gotten my coffee. I ordered two lattes." They seemed confused and said " there's no ticket" and they looked at the woman who was taking orders. She looked back like she didn't remember that I had ordered so I repeated..."I was your first customer...I ordered 2 lattes." I finally got my coffee about 4 minutes later but when I went to get the coffee, the young woman who had prepared it said "thank you for being so kind and patient" with a very snarky and condescending tone. At no time did anybody say anything like "oh, I am so sorry...we will make it right away." While I think anybody in the same situation would be irritated, I never once expressed any impatience and never said anything unkind. These employees managed to make an unfortunate mistake into a truly terrible customer experience. I realize that people make mistakes and I can accept and forgive mistakes. But when somebody does make a mistake, I expect them to own the mistake, apologize and try to do the best they can to remedy the error. What I absolutely don't accept is to get a snarky attitude from the employees. Ridiculous!!! Terrible customer service!!! read more

I will start by saying my expectations may have been a little high for this brunch spot as it is usually pretty packed. We waited about 30 minutes for a table (not bad for a Friday brunch). Our waiter came and took our drink order and we didn't see him again until he brought our check. The food was good, but nothing to write home about. No actual food complaints though. However, the service we received (or didn't receive) was extremely disappointing. Like I stated previously, our waiter, Jake (or so the receipt told us anyway) came up, asked what we wanted to drink and then he didn't come to our table until he delivered our check. He did however have plenty of time to chat with several friends that came in, forget our drinks that we ordered, and check from a distance to see if we were done eating yet. He did not check to see if we needed anything, if our food came out correctly, if we needed refills, or anything a normal wait staff would typically do. When we got our food (brought to us by someone who wasn't our waiter) we didn't have any silverware. We had to track someone down to get some. Everyone else seemed pleasant (hostess, baristas, etc) but unfortunately our specific waiter experience will be the reason we won't return. Very disappointed. read more

My mom and uncle recently moved to the area and they absolutely love it here. After my first trip I understand why... omg... the chorizo gravy and biscuits was phenomenal!! Cute place on 12 South with picnic tables and seating outside for nice days! We arrived around noon on a Thursday and the wait was about 30 mins. They took our name and number so we could walk around and they text you when it's time to sit down! There are so many good options for food and drink, it was hard to choose! My friend got the Rose Pistachio Matcha and loved it! She said she could taste all the flavors, especially the rose! I enjoyed my old fashion bottled coke! For meals, I tried the Lucy salad, which was amazing! I want to go back today and get it again! The blood Orange vinaigrette was amazing, especially with the feta and dried cranberries! I visited the Frothy Monkey on a Tuesday afternoon and I was shocked at how crowded it was! When looking up coffee spots to try out in Nashville, Frothy Monkey was pretty popular. I stopped in for coffee togo and there were a few people in line ahead of me. My drink came out really quickly - which we love! I'm giving the Frothy Monkey 5 stars because it has the ambiance of your friend's house that you want to hang out in all the time and the kind of coffee that makes you go "damn that is good coffee"! I ordered the Turtle Latte which has house-made caramel (enough said there), chocolate sauce, and pecan syrup. For all my sugary sweet coffee lovers out there - this is what we live for! The hostess was very organized, took our number and we received a text about 30 minutes later. Seated inside, waitress did a great job with recommendations. My friend is gluten free and was beyond happy with the choices she could eat. I tried the iced lavender latte and the hot Havana both. They were both excellent. My meal was the Huevos and honestly was not impressed. Was very bland which was surprising since I wax expecting strong Latin flavors. Best coffee in town! I love this place. The golden monkey, monkey mocha, and Havana lattes are all delicious and 10/10. Their seasonal drinks are always delicious, too. There is a bit of a line on the weekends, but it is worth it, in my opinion. However, coming from someone who loves Frothy Monkey, if I could change two things about this place, I would. 1. I would update the inside a little bit and build some proper storage. It looks a bit disorganized. I think it would be a worthy investment. 2. I would narrow down the food menu. Employees here are incompetent. Hostess sat my family of 5 at a table for 2. There were plenty of open tables to combined to make a table of 4. I had to ask him to bring over an additional table...he seemed stoned and put out. Then our server brought waters and proceeded to dump and entire glass of ice water on my son. He apologized profusely. I understand that mistakes happen, however nothing was done to remedy the situation. He didn't even offer my son a napkin to dry himself.....The server never offered to comp anything off our meal. The tomato soup is gross...don't order it. I would give a million stars if that were an option. Due to some harsh side effects from a new medication, I collapsed on the sidewalk outside of frothy monkey and hit the pavement really hard. A bystander ran into frothy monkey to ask for some ice for my head injury. An absolute angel employee of frothy monkey came out to me with ice, the most beautiful bandaids from her personal collection, tons of first aid supplies and lots of care for me. She then proceeded to bring me an ice water and a free latte. I was just a pedestrian on 12th Ave south. I wasn't a paying customer. I didn't have to be frothy monkey's problem. They had no obligation to me whatsoever. I am absolutely floored by their kindness towards me. I could only drink a few sips of the latte because my head, check & mouth were gushing blood so drinking liquids was a little painful but the latte was SO GOOD. It was absolutely delicious. Genuinely the best latte I've ever had. I was in shock so I didn't think to get the employees name but she deserves a big fat raise. We had one opportunity for brunch while visiting from out of state in Nashville, and it was a tough choice between several options, including White Limozeen. After reading lots of reviews, it was clear that if you want both a cute atmosphere and good food, that Frothy Monkey was the choice! We were very happy with our decision even over other Nashville hotspots. Pros: - while we waited for a table, we got coffee at their separate coffee bar and it was terrific. Loved having this option while we waited. We even got to sit at a small bar area. It made the time go by quickly. - we got the American breakfast and the French toast. Both were great choices for something sweet and something savory. Their sausage has just a slight kick to it! Super flavorful. - cute atmosphere / lgbt affirming by the looks of their flag! - clean and tidy! - friendly service from all Cons: - We did have to wait a while. A word to the wise, make a reservation! That was our mistake. Even though they said it would be 20 mins, it was more like 45. Just make a reservation and you'll be fine! Frothy monkey always has a long line even early in the morning. I have been waiting to try their coffee for a while but get discouraged by the lines. Eventually I was able to get in one morning, just 15 min after it opens. I ordered a skim latte and waited 15 min for my order. The latte was BAD! Almost tasted like burnt beans with water. It was so sour and bitter that I had to throw it away after a few sips. Sadly, I went to Starbucks (least fav coffee shop) nearby and got a drink instead. read more

They gave my food to someone else, the server then bought it to me, and I requested a new meal. She apologized and made me a new meal, gifted us with a cowboy cookie and refunded my meal. I like Frothy Monkey. I've been to several locations around town but the 12 South location is my favorite. My most recent visit to this spot I brought my friend from out of town for brunch. This is the kind of spot where you order at the register then they give you a number and you can find a seat and wait for them to bring you your order. You can also get it to-go, but if you are going to wait so long in line why not stay a while? Pros: -Hip and fun spot playing cool music (were playing 90's R&B which made people break out into a chorus) -Good food and drinks (I've never not liked what I've gotten) -Menu serves breakfast through dinner, alcoholic options for later! They did leave a sign up with the estimated times (if you were going to order food to eat there versus getting a drink to go) so you were informed before standing in line. There can sometimes be a bit of a wait, but the town area around is super cute so a good place to go for a walk while you wait. My one complaint was the area where we sat, there was a lot of flies being close to the window and having live plants indoors. Love me some Frothy Monkey. As a grad student who (at any given moment) should be working on her thesis, the ample seating at FM is ideal. Although it is wildly popular and thus often notoriously busy, I can usually be guaranteed a spot to sit and post up with my work. The decor is equal parts chic and comfortable, and you never feel out of place like you might in some of the more pretentious coffee shops in Nashville. The space is consistently kept clean, yet feels warmly lived in. I am a simple gal, so I very much enjoy FM's Plain Jane: egg, swiss, and tomato on an everything bagel. Their bagels are authentic and delightfully chewy, and always toasted to perfection. You can't go wrong with their drip coffee, but they also offer a diverse and creative drink menu, including the Havana Latte (photo attached) with star anise. Lastly, I have never encountered poor service here. From the friendly woman at the register who offered to grab me a water, to the staff who brought me my food with a smile and joke, it is always a genuinely lovely experience. read more
