I love frozen yogurt so it's always exciting to try out new places. The selection of frozen yogurt at Fruity Yogurt is average for a self-serve froyo shop though I think they rotate flavours in and out for variety's sake. They have "regular" flavours like plain, vanilla, and chocolate, but also some more interesting flavours like pumpkin and black sesame, both of which I tried in addition to the plain during my visit. Of the three, the black sesame was my favorite; it's nutty, earthy, smooth, and worth trying if you want something different. The pumpkin was good though I've definitely had better. It also felt kind of out of season now that it's spring and getting warm as the spices definitely made it more of an autumn flavour. The plain yogurt was disappointing unfortunately. It was tart, which I like, but it was also icy and didn't melt smoothly, which I did not like. In addition to the froyo, there is a vast toppings bar to personalize your dessert with - definitely one of the bigger selections I've seen. In addition to toppings like granola and M&Ms, they also had really Asian toppings like red bean paste and decent mochi. My favorite topping however was the "popping boba" which are liquid filled jelly spheres that you pop in your mouth as you chew. They seem strange but the novelty value is unbeatable. I'd buy a cup of only boba actually haha. The froyo is 49 cents an ounce which is on the higher side for self-serve places but the flexibility of mixing flavours and toppings helps. Overall, Fruity Yogurt will satisfy your froyo craving, but while the variety of toppings is nice, the frozen yogurt won't make you say "wow". read more

What to say about Fruity Yogurt? As soon as you walk in the door, chances are pretty good that you'll be struck by the fact that you are the only patron who is A) not under 21 or B) doesn't have small children in tow. You may also be overwhelmed (or amused) by the cutesy homemade signs that warn against stealing toppings, using the bathroom if you're not a paying customer, taking pictures outside the dining area, etc. etc. But if you grab a cup and proceed to the self-service dispensers, you'll discover that this shop serves up some pretty tasty frogurt. They have rare and special flavors you can't get at most other places, such as Thai tea, black sesame, and taro (personal favorite). They also offer a wide selection of toppings, which includes mochi, red beans, assorted tapioca balls and flavored jellies, as well as more conventional ones like candy bits and cookie crumbles. The prices are hardly cheap, but that's pretty much characteristic of every shop in Princeton. Fruity Yogurt also used to offer colorful, sturdy plastic spoons that we took to collecting for home use. Unfortunately, I think those spoons may be a thing of the past. The last couple times we went they only had boring, flimsy white ones. The workers assured us that the good spoons were on order, but they have yet to appear. I've never tried the bubble tea, but reliable sources indicate that its pretty good. read more

Regarding the taste, its typical of ALL the frozen yoghurt places, BUT, this place has WAY more options if you're into the Asian feel. They have red beans, tapioca, and some unique Asian flavors I suggest ANYONE with a little bit of pizazz to try out. Side note: I'm a little annoyed. This is a very cute place. The store has a warm feeling because of its bright orange walls. I usually come here to satisfy my here-and-there frozen yogurt cravings. This place is like any other frozen yogurt shop where you get the yogurt first and choose your own toppings and then pay by its weight. Make sure to get a few little taste cups so you can try a variety of flavors first before you decide! They have some flavors that I genuinely adore: 1. coconut 2. taro (nonfat) 3. vanilla (nonfat) 4. Mango I don't really like their coffee caramel or chocolate because I would rather have chocolate or coffee caramel ice cream/gelato for the extra creaminess. They do have a huge variety of toppings. My favorite is the Aloe Vera because you can't really find those at other fro-yo shops. They also have boba drinks if you're craving for milk tea or just those chewy tapioca. People around here seem to LOVE fruity yogurt and I can give some reasons: It's COOL to make your own yogurt and the manager is the FRIENDLIEST PERSON EVER. However, coming from Southern California, I would say this is WAY TOO EXPENSIVE FOR ITS QUALITY. I thoroughly enjoy Fruity Yogurt, until I see the price... it's like what $5-6 for a little bit of yogurt + toppings? Honestly, with that price, I could get a relatively large pinkberry or red mango yogurt in Southern California, in which the consistency/quality is a lot better! However, I still enjoy the variety of flavors... but my favorite always stands with plain. So now the most important question for those that obviously can't go travel to socal every time they want yogurt...: Fruity Yogurt? or Twist? Both are pretty expensive. I absolutely LOVE the place! So many combinations of drinks including but not limited to bubble tea, icy slush, smoothies and shakes. The yogurt is top quality and every week they have at least one new flavor! They also will give you tiny taster cups to try the yogurt on request. But the reason I go there most is to say hi to the manager, Francisco! He is so friendly and is super flexible with my orders (I always get crazy combinations). Always wearing an inviting smile and a friendly attitude; he's a great guy to.be in charge. Heck he even let me put peach rings in my smoothie once or twice! I only go when he's there! i went here during my lunch break coz i was jonesing for a bubble tea fix. this place has froyo & bubble tea with all its toppings. what more could you ask for? well, perhaps i'm asking too much because i like my bubble tea, shaken, not pre-made. i ordered a regular milk tea with grass jelly. the staff took out a pitcher and poured me my milk tea. there's no shaker. yes please serve me a pre-made bubble tea ... says no one ever. the grass jelly in my milk tea wasn't fresh. it was definitely sitting for days. they do have a lot of variety when it comes to toppings for your milk tea, but honestly, none of them look fresh. lunch time wasn't crowded. there are about half a dozen tables and plenty of seats. there's froyo by weight. i'm not sure i'll give that a try based on the bubble tea. parking is street metered outside the shop. the neighborhood has lots of little shops near by, including other bubble tea shops. read more

I couldn't be happier that there's a Fruity Yogurt in Princeton. I have to stop myself from going whenever I can, but I still end up going once or twice every week. They have an tremendous variety of flavors and toppings, which includes a lot of Asian flavors you can't typically find (e.g. Taro froyo, grass jelly, lychee jelly, etc.). I think of this place primarily as a bubble tea place, but I've had their frozen yogurt before, and the toppings make that pretty great as well. I've also heard good things about their shaved ice, which you can really load up with toppings. You can put topping in whatever you want, so I often find myself putting lychee jelly in addition to my tapioca in bubble teas. I've probably have 15+ different flavors from them so far, and very few, if any, have been a disappointment. Off the top of my head, flavors that are always great to me are taro, original, thai, vanilla almond, and honeydew (with milk). They also have a couple of cool hybrid flavors such as rose lychee and taro coconut. Some people complain their bubble tea is too sweet, but I don't particularly mind it. Maybe the taro could be more authentic in this category, but I don't find it useful to try to mimic the original flavor as closely as possible. To me, I appreciate their consistency the most--the tapioca bubbles are always nice and chewy and it tastes the way I expect every time I go. My 13 year old tried to pay for a $5+ boba tea using a $20 bill and was yelled at by the cashier for not having a credit card (no signs indicating credit only) and then was told (aggressively) to get out of the store. I subsequently tried to speak with the cashier to explain that his behavior towards a minor (or any customer for that matter) was unacceptable and he showed zero comprehension or remorse that there was anything wrong with his behavior. Beyond my incomprehension as to why Princeton needed yet another frozen dessert place, the make-your-own-froyo here is pretty standard. I can't say that it's better than Twist, but there is certainly more "Asian" flair, e.g. taro, lychees... I was initially excited about having a bubble tea place in Princeton, but that was short-lived. I've tried their bubble tea on three separate occasions and was horribly disappointed. Each time I've asked for (flavor) milk tea with boba, I've gotten a ghastly (literally too, it was white) concoction that is mostly milk with boba at the bottom. If I shut my eyes, maybe, just maybe there is some essence tea in there, but I'm pretty positive that there was no flavor added. Really, flavor-wise, I think the bubble tea at Tiger Noodle is better. For a place that is run by a Taiwanese woman, I would have expected better standards for bubble tea. So: froyo gets 4 stars, bubble tea gets 1 star -- average 2.5, but I'll give 'em half a star for accepting credit cards. read more

The variety here is fantastic -- so many options for flavors of bubble tea! You can also get tea + boba, smoothie + boba, shaved ice + boba! And you can get the tea warm or cold! AND you can mix flavors. So many options! Good bubble tea, but not entirely worth the 1/2 hour wait. Overall this place is great. Their yogurt is good but I never get it because I prefer the bubble tea. Some great things: awesome selection of good flavors, really solid tasty boba that aren't overly chewy and have a good flavor and size, and they will if you request it, blend any drink with ice to make a slushy before pouring it over your boba for you. I've tried a large number of the milk tea related flavors and they all seem really good. That said, my only complaint is that the service can be inconsistent. The manager is so nice and does an amazing job and making my drink perfectly, where as the other people who work there can be hit or miss. I used to go here daily when it first opened up. The boba tea is fantastic. They have the most amazing bubbles - texture & consistency wise (the owner told me she ships it from California because she tried them all and that was literally the best). As I've gotten a little older, I find that the drinks are WAY too sweet. I can barely finish half without feeling like I might get diabetes on the spot. Tiger Noodles has better "tea" in comparison. I don't usually get the yogurt but it's not bad. Some of the flavors taste like sugar but the others are decent. They're very typical "asian" flavors like Taro, or Starfruit. I think they have a standard amount of toppings, if not more than Pinkberry. In my opinion it's on par with Twist. The staff is always nice and make the drinks in a reasonable amount of time. Great and fast service for drinks even when they're extremely busy and there's only two people working at the counter. I needed something to quench my thirst after a long day of walking and their peach mango fruit tea did just the job! I mean, Fruity Yogurt is by no means bad, it's just not amazing. There are cheaper places to get frozen treats in Princeton, and there are also better places. Fruity Yogurt deserves recognition for being open-ended. You can put anything you want in your cup (including fresh fruits), and they'll price it by the weight (as of writing, 0.45/oz). Also, they have bubble tea. Nothing special about it, it's pretty typical bubble tea. But, like their yogurt, they stress being open-ended. They make it very clear that they'll mix flavors. Service is good. The staff is friendly, and (just an observation) mostly women. They give out lots of free samples while you're waiting in line. I once ordered acai and blueberry bubble tea, and the girl behind the counter (Melanie) didn't hear me say "acai," so she gave me just blueberry. (It was my fault; I should have spoken clearly.) I really don't understand what happened... i saw other reviews that promised great flavors, but we had the total opposite experience!!! originally we were going to only get bubble tea, but we were so enticed by their frozen yogurt flavor selection that we got both. I've had plenty of green tea ice cream and yogurt and have always enjoyed it... this tasted like if you leave a tea bag steeping for way way too long and the flavor becomes toxic tasting.... toppings: not a great selection.... the jellies didn't look great, some of the fruit was yummy (blueberries) and the mango boba was good, but there were just not that many appetizing things going on. Boba Tea: I got sweet potato so I could try something new, but was disappointed that my tea tasted more like rice milk than anything else. My husband and I frequented Fruity Yogurt almost as much as Bent Spoon this past summer. I love the plain yogurt and my husband always opts for one of the flavored yogurts, which are good too, but I always get the plain. The toppings are fun and plentiful. Compared to other similar frozen yogurt places, I would say the yogurt is refreshing and isn't too heavy. We have yet to try their bubble tea but judging by the frozen yogurt, our hope is that they taste authentic (at least the regular tea flavors). If you're in the area, I say it's worth trying this place. It's also generally not as crazy-packed as other areas of Princeton nights/weekends. read more

The yogurt itself is good. It's the toppings I have a problem with. They have it set up where you use one spoon for every topping and it's super dangerous for people with allergies like myself, especially if you have a nut allergy, This makes it so every single topping is contaminated and I've never seen a set up at a froyo place like this. Love this place! Great fro-yo, bubble tea and milkshakes :) My favorite is cookies and cream boba. The staff is really friendly and since I'm a regular they even bother with learning your name. Great place for when I'm craving something sweet and it's all for a good price. It's priced just as I would price it myself. Unlike most desserts places here in Princeton you can pay with either card or cash, but they will charge you a fee for using your card because it's so inexpensive. The atmosphere is young, it's a college hang out for sure but it's a comfortable space regardless of age. Fruity Yogurt is a great place to hang out with your friends, a quick stop on a date or even with your family members. It's clean and it's definitely a place I'll keep going to, you should check it out if you're ever in Princeton. Tip: The boba can be a lot in their teas sometimes but you can ask for less. Vegan info: Update as of October 2018 - they seem to be doing a coconut and an almond based flavor now instead of soy which is disappointing. The coconut isn't a good base - icy, not creamy. Soy is better but people are paranoid about it so it's disappearing from the vegan scene (drives me nuts bc coconut cream makes me sick). ---- Fruity yogurt in Princeton has one rotating soy-based vegan soft-serve flavor. The taste and texture is very good - probably the best soft ice cream/yogurt I've had other than Cookman Creamery in Asbury Park. I always get nervous that tasty things aren't really vegan, but it is clearly labeled, so I put my faith in that sign. The flavors I've tried are not really my favorites (banana, honeydew, cappuchino), but I still found them enjoyable, probably because vegan frozen dessert is so rare and sometimes so bad that anything decent becomes exciting. For example, I've had bad softserve at papa ganache, v street, vegan treats, cookman when they tried to take soy out, and a few other places. So disappointing! Tcby's silk products were good, but not as good as this, and tutti frutti's non-dairy options were decent but not memorable. At fruity yogurt, I'm hoping for vanilla, chocolate, nut, or taro flavors in the near future. It isn't always changed weekly in spite of what the sign says. A variety of fruit toppings are available. Drinks can be made with soy milk, and milk-free fruit teas with adjustable levels of sweetness. They also have shaved ice. People who never heard of bubble tea before will find it appealing here. And bubble tea connoisseurs will be pleased. Second star for the variety of yogurt. I like taro yogurt, which Fruity Yogurt often has. Third star for the yogurt toppings. Good balance of candies, fruit, and boba as yogurt toppings.
