I can't count how many times I've gone by this place with my friend Becky or Carly or on my own and it never seems to be open when donuts are needed. Then sometimes there was no place to readily park when I saw it was open, so I have to driveon by. FINALLY ... it was open (yes, there is a schedule) and a parking spot was available. I went in to find a magnificent array of donuts. I chose 3 ... me, becky and my roommate. Becky couldn't eat hers right away because she had just put lipstick on, but when I arrived home my roommate and I put them on a plate and ate them. DELICIOUS. While eating my roommate sent a pic to a friend and the friend wrote: "oh, it's that vegan place." My response: "there's not an F'in thing wrong with this donut." In the final analysis ... GO! I tried the chocolate frosted and lemon frosted, my partner tried the maple frosted and the chocolate peanut butter; all five stars. After a brief closure, Fry Baby has now reopened their doors! My original review from when they first opened: I arrived at Fry Baby just before 1pm in the afternoon and they still had a variety of donuts available so I purchased a dozen. The donuts were delicious. They were light and airy pillows, the way a raised donut should be. My favorite flavor was maple. The glaze was just right, still a little soft but firm enough to stay snug on the donut. I also purchased the banana creme pie, excellent, and the Oreo which was also delicious. Blueberry, vanilla, and chocolate were standard and everything I expected. The cinnamon bun was the right balance of cinnamon to bun to glaze. The shop was cute. The product was visible right behind the counter so I knew exactly what I was getting. As far as price, compared to other vegan donuts, these are some of the most price friendly vegan donuts I've ever found outside of the Baker's Daughter. There is a counter where you can sit to eat your donuts but it was a little awkward so I probably would not eat them there. My only constructive criticism is that they seem to sell out early and frequently. Their Facebook has the hours listed as 11am to 6pm. There are days when they sell out as early as 2pm. Either they are selling a lot of donuts or they are not making enough donuts. I think that people who drive a distance for a specialty donut will be very disappointed to arrive at 3pm only to find there are no donuts left despite the closing time listed as 6pm. My suggestion is to either A. change the hours to reflect the truth as far as when they will be open or B. make more donuts. If I hadn't loved the donuts as much as I did, I would suggest going with A. But i did love the donuts. I would hate to make the drive only to find closed doors. So, I woofed my donut down before I had a chance to take a pic. These donuts are absolutely amazing and I'm so glad my colleague put me on to this place! So far, I've tried the vanilla with sprinkles, chocolate with sprinkles, and the cinnamon bun, and I've yet to be disappointed. They're HUGE, light & fluffy, and moist. If we are rating these donuts solely on taste/texture, I would say that they are mediocre at best. Certainly they are sweet, sugary, and have a "yeast-like" rise, but there is something off on these donuts. Although I do not have any dietary restrictions, I frequently bake vegan desserts at home and realize that without including certain animals products, you find yourself with a varying range of textures because you need to depend on other rising agents. However, I have never recreated this kind of texture in a vegan dessert. The dough itself does not have a particular sweetness and has almost an artificial flavor, with a sponge-like rise. And not spongy in a good way. Like a dish sponge. I would say that if you are NOT vegan, your best bet is to go somewhere else for a donut craving. If you are vegan, I'm glad you have this option available to you for your donut craving, because they do "do the trick". read more

I called and no one picked up but the voice mail said it was opened...GREAT! I drove there and the place looked closed. I called again and only a voice mail stating their hours. It was Wednesday and it says they were open. I walk towards the place and they had a homemade sign in pastel colors saying they're "sold out until January 6th". REALLY?!? Sometimes a great donut...can be had very locally as well as have that magical power to pick up your mood without all the stuff you might see in other donuts. This is an awesome gem. I love having a trendy donut shop in the neighborhood that does kind of off beat flavors!! I stopped in the other day and ordered a hibiscus lime and a matcha blueberry donut. I have been here a few times while working downtown and have never had the same donut twice. They are only open Thursday - Saturday so you have to catch them when you can. I would come during lunch and it would be semi busy but the staff worked the lines well. They do a great job with testing out different flavors you wouldn't expect. Vegan is the best part, because there isn't a lot of vegan food around Buffalo. Fry Baby Donuts - I love you! Truly bringing something we don't have in the downtown/Allen area - donuts and VEGAN donuts. At first I was just so excited to try the donuts because I needed to know - "Will these be as good as regular donuts?" "Will these taste different?" "Will I like these?!"
