This is Julie's husband again. As a regular traveler to China, I try to get a massage, usually a foot massage every night I'm there. It costs less than $10 at most places and sometimes less than $5 if you're out in the country areas. I never thought to get a massage in L.A. because of the higher prices until a business associate told me about the massage parlors in San Gabriel. Fu Sheng is the 2nd place I've tried on Valley Blvd. and I'm quite happy with the quality of massage and prices there. The foot massage area is fairly clean and the reclining chairs are comfortable. The full body massage area is not as nice and is very cramped with only 4 tables. I went this weekend and got a full body massage for 1 hour and a foot/head message for another hour. The total price was $40 and I tipped the guy $20. I don't speak any Mandarin and the staff hardly speaks any English. Don't worry though as they know what you're there for. The only problem I have with this place is a personal issue. I'm so used to having young Chinese women give me a massage when I'm in China. Each time I go to Fu Sheng, I get a middle-age man whose hands smell like cigarettes and burps time to time. This last time was no different and I guess I can ask for a woman, but the guy looked like he needed the money, so I kept my mouth shut. Well, I stripped down to my boxers and most of the massage was without any lotion or oil. He climbed all over me, pulled down my boxers and rubbed my butt cheeks one at a time. I came here this weekend because one of my other friends also comes here so it was funny when I arrived to find out it was the same place I've been hearing about. $15 for a full hour of the Chinese foot massage. There were five of us in our group and it was easy for them to accommodate us. There were more workers here than I expected. We sat in a big room with tons of chairs. We all started off with soaking our feet in very warm water. While the feet was soaking, they start by massaging your shoulders and stretching out your arm. After, they have you lie on your stomach and they start massaging your back and legs. (Your feet are no longer soaking in the water). After some time, they have you lie on your back and they massage your feet and legs. Finally, they go and massage your scalp, arms, and wherever else they want. If you've been to a Chinese foot soak / massage type of place you've been to them all. I do not really see the need to drive all the way to San Gabriel from the Westside when there are plenty of the same in the Westside as well. Sure it's $5 cheaper ($20 vs. $15) but the massage I received was about the same. I do not remember the name of the gentleman who worked on me, but I do remember that he smokes because I could smell the cigarette smell off of his hands. IT was a little gross smelling the cigarette smells off of his hands while having him massaging me. Massages here are good, but I will stick to the one on the Westside. It was my first time here and loved it in the beginning. The guy who worked on me did a great job however the massage was under an hour. I showed him the time and timer/stopwatch on my cell when we began and what was supposed to be an hour massage turned out to be 54 minutes. I showed the clock to him and all he did was another 2 minutes. He immediately had an attitude. Why does this establishment advertise an hour? An hour is 60 minutes not 54 minutes. This is my 500th review. At first, I wanted to do something spectacular, but after last night's "full body massage" I knew that this was the perfect review. I always shudder... only because she's weak and it feels like I am throwing my $15 away on a massage.. Reluctant to get a foot massage, I realize Tracy was bringing me my hot water soak and I was thinking.. OK no... not TRACY. Well yesterday, I decided to venture into what has only been a myth for me... yes folks, THE FULL BODY MASSAGE in the dark back room. Now I have heard many horror stories, but I decided to just experience it for myself. Here is a time line of my events. 10pm- enter in the secret room, where I am instructed in Chinese to take off all of my clothes except underwear, and that I will be getting a female technician. BTW, the lady called me "pretty boy". That made my night. She then proceeds to rip a paper towel and tells me to lay on the paper towel. Classy. 10:05pm- I am in my boxers cold and waiting for my female technician to arrive. 10:06pm- A 5-8 Chinese amazon enters the room and asks if I want a softer or more intense massage. 10:07pm- I choose the intense one. Go big or go home, right? 10:08pm- She starts rubbing me bareback, with her sweaty hands and giving me what I call the rug burn portion of the massage. I have never met a lady with such freakishly strong forearms. Amazon starts to chat with the other technicians about how tired she is and that the fat white guy she had prior to me had smelly feet. Delicious. 10:46pm- Reprise of the kidney punches and very unorthodox moves begin, as in straddling on top of me and doing what I call a scissor kick move to my calves (imagine a girl having a temper tantrum with her legs on top of mine). 10:47pm- I am dying in pain from how crazy strong she is. 10:48pm- Man #2 comes in after me saying in Chinese to his technician "NI ZAO DAO LE! NI ZAO DAO LE! JIU SHI ZHE LI" *subtitles---Oh that's the spot, you found it! HARDER! HARDER! It's super sore" 10:49pm- I start giggling like a little girl. 10:50pm- Hot towels to wipe me down. 11pm- "All Done" I pay my $35 and leave feeling a bit violated and a great story to tell my friends. I went with Sue Z the other day and decided to go all out with the full-body massage. My masseuse was Leelee and she did a great job. Leelee really knew how to work the muscles, to the point where she seemed to be kneading the individual striations. Hello trapezius muscle! What's up, latissimus dorsi? Since Sue warned her that I am a massage newbie and self-declared wimp, Leelee kept checking to make sure I was okay. It was definitely a stronger massage than my first one at Massage Garage, but in a good way. The place was very peaceful and clean. They do the full-body massages in a smaller side room, divided by hospital curtains and dividers. The foot soaks and clothed massages are done in the big room, in cushy-looking recliners, with big plasma TVs mounted here and there. They give you tasty hot tea afterwards too. I think I definitely prefer Asian massages to "white people massages" now. They are very brisk and efficient, and strong too, plus they aren't so worried about being "proper". You walk upstairs (elevator is broken), into this suite where everyone is on a reclining chair getting massaged. They start by having you sit up right so you can soak your lil piggies (feet) in this big bucket of... tea? LOL I really hope it's tea, if not, very dirty water. So please expect this when you go there because we sure didn't! About 45 mins later they start doing your feet and they put some sort of lubricant on there to moisten up your nasties. That part was pretty cool.. Overall experience, it wasn't too relaxing because my friend and I were busy freaking out from either pain, weird noises, or surprise touches & cracks they make. Big comfortable chairs that recline, steamy barrels of hot water to soak your feet, a big flat screen tv, low lighting, and cheesy decor. There's some soothing AzN jams playing on the background. Don't mind all the other distracting noises going on. Take an ipod, ear plugs, or just tune it out. For one hour, you get more than a foot massage. They work your neck, shoulders, back, head (the one connected to your neck perv), thighs, hands/fingers, and even buttox. The latter part of the entire deal concentrates on everything from the knees downward. So who cares that they can't speak much EngRRish. This was a pretty unpleasant experience. The staff was kind of noisy. Then a large group of slightly drunk and loud teenagers came in. So I got pissed pretty quickly. My biggest dislike about this place is they always "call in" masseuses when they don't have enough. Here is the example of what happens almost every time I go there. You want in, and ask them if they have 2 or 3 spots available. The lady answers yes and quickly gets you soaking your feet. You wait for 5 to 10 minutes. Then, I realize that the lady is calling around asking people to come into to work. I don't know, but to me, this means you do NOT have 2 or 3 masseuses available. So, you sit and wait, and since you are already soaking, it's not like you can get up and leave. In one of the worst cases, I waited around 10 minutes and the person who came with me waited 30 minutes before we got 2 people to work on us. It's called a $15 hour long foot massage, but what they do is they make you soak your feet in a bucket of hot water while they massage your shoulders, neck, arms, back and your head and the last ten minutes they do your feet. I've been to a gazillion of the Chinese massage places along Valley Blvd. This is probably my favorite. Let me give some thoughts on the whole experience and explain why I like this one. Foot massage generally costs $15/hour, while a body massage costs something like $45/hour. I generally prefer foot massage to body massage regardless of cost. Body massage sucks if the masseuse isn't good. It can be apathetic and boring, or methodically excruciating. Unless you know the masseuse beforehand, there's really no telling what you're going to get. Also, I would rather be in a comfy reclining chair than on one of the massage benches with a hole for your face. My jaw and forehead get very uncomfortable supporting my head for an hour, and often there is not a lot of fresh air given the towels and stuff lining that hole. In sum, body massage is generally great in theory but not in practice. Foot massage is almost always good, and is a steal comparatively. But not all foot massage places are equal. Here are some of the factors. Is it too crowded and loud? Are half the staff visibly ill, angry, or resentful? Are they smoking in the back rooms? Do the staff seem happy and eager to please? Are the chairs comfortable? Is the tea good? Are the staff constantly trying to upsell (especially with body massages)? Do they play games to rip you off (e.g., I went to one place where a foot massage was $15, but then they charged an extra $5 for the shoulder and back massage that is standard and included at every other foot massage place). At Fu Sheng (which says "Foot Soak" in the window), the staff seem healthy and happy. (Some of the girls are even cute.) The masseuses I've gotten have gone out of their way to make me happy. They make good tea and provide fresh oranges. It's generally fairly quiet. The reclining chairs are very comfortable and go back all the way. Cigarette smoke from the walkway outside is a nuisance, but at least it's not inside. They have never tried to sell me a body massage (this is extremely rare!). They don't talk about me in Chinese behind my back. It's just a relaxing, very pleasant foot massage. So though there are many other fine options along Valley Blvd, "Foot Soak" has become my go-to foot massage joint. read more

If you want a good foot massage along with body massage with your clothes on while you're lying on a chair, come here. No thrill, no frills. But don't come here if you want a full body massage on a table. The only facility they have to do an all body massage is in a side room the size of a walk in closet, and they put 4 tables in there. No kidding, 4 tables separated by curtains that don't go all around. When the masseuse walk around, they literally bump into each other. Expect no privacy in here. When someone else walks in, they can see you lying there on the table. That's not the worst yet, you can hear every word that's said among the four tables (that's if you understand what they're saying!). Either it's the masseusse chatting with one another, or the customers talking to their friend next table over, or the masseuse on their cell phones or the customers on their cell phones. It's like you're in the midst of NYSE. You'll get the same treatment while you're out in the big room, b-u-t that's to be expected. Afterall, you're paying only $15 plus tips. If that doesn't sound like your cup of tea, i.e. cell phone yakers talking on the phone while you're getting a massage, please turn off your cell phone during your massage. It's good for your soul and good for others as well. One last note, no matter what the environment is, I do feel that if the guy/gal gave you a decent massage, tip them at least $10-$15. This place is really a hit or miss. The first time I stumbled across this place, I had a lady who gave me quite a decent massage for the price. I was happy and willing to try again (and wish I remembered her name so I could have her again) But the second time I came in here...ohh boy. I don't know if the lady is a manager or what (I've seen her before and she seems to always massage guys who are not walk-in clients? She has fried looking reddish hair and horrendously mismatched outfits), but I received probably the 2nd worst massage in my life. First of all, she wasn't paying attention to the massage and the whole thing felt rushed and half assed. The pressure was WAY too hard and overall, my friend could probably give a better massage than what she gave me. Secondly, its a FOOT MASSAGE parlor, but she hardly massaged my foot!!!!! We go here every couple of weeks with our family and friends. We tried a couple of other places that were $15 for an hour massage but none like this one. What's cool about this one is the reclining chairs. So you get your regular neck, shoulder, arm and neck massage sitting down with your feet inside a WOODEN BARREL of foot replenishing tea (which I think is pretty cool, the barrel adds personality to this place) Then they have you turn around and lay face down and they give you a back massage. This one's quality depends on who you get. Everyone changes it up a bit. I've had about 6 or 7 different people here. So ask for the name of your person if you really liked your massage. Then you turn around facing up and they give you a head and face massage and occasionally and ear massage..ha. Then they move on to your feet where they put lotion through to your calves and they spend a good deal of time on the feet. I always skip the thigh massage but that's included. Don't worry you keep your clothes on the entire time. The massages are generally very good and you wake up the next day feeling renewed. We always tip them $10 because they spend an hour on you and they do a pretty good job. They lose one star because the employees do chit chat a lot so it takes away from the experience. It doesn't bother me because I can't understand what they're saying. lol. But if you want a quiet or more relaxing experience take some music and some headphones. They take walk ins but appointments are recommended because some nights they have a full house. read more

I used to be a regular for the past 2.5 years, but the quality has gone down hill. The consistency varies and the quality doesn't cut it. Either you get a good massage and leave happy... or you get one that sucks (pushes your skin around and does not take direction well) and you leave pissed that you waisted an hour of your time and feel obligated to tip... my neck hurts... I don't mind the cell phones, chatter, and the crusty looking place... just give me a decent massage... FAIL! Out the door for a waste of an hour... $25 bucks... read more

Pros: massage was actually decent and price was cheap. Cons: not very relaxing due to the tv playing Chinese soaps and loud numerous side conversations amongst the workers. It is distracting and made it difficult to relax. Also, massage chairs are too close to one another that my wife's hand was laying on top of mine due to the lack of space. If you're looking for a serene massage, this is not your place. Spend your $15 dollars elsewhere. read more

My first time here and I would say it was okay. I liked the massage and the girl I had was really good. Though the massage was great, there were a few dealbreakers. The workers continually talk and LOUD. My masseuse stopped massaging me to talk about my shirt with the other workers and laughing (not sure if they were saying something good or bad). Also, they charged me $2 just to use a debit card!!! When I gave them the tip they did not understand what I was saying. It was kind of frustrating trying to relax because of all of the talking and the tv playing !!! a massage place should be quiet sheesh!
