We went here for lunch when they first opened and they were pretty good. Not memorable for the price but still decent. We went there today for lunch and their enchilada sauce was terrible. It tasted like a bad mole. Super dark and just gross. The cheese wasn't even melted inside. My husband ate 2 bites and it soured his stomache and he lost his appetite. We told the waiter and he offered to get my husband something else we refused and then he still charged us for his plate. We had to argue with him and he eventually reduced it to $2. The beans and rice were delicious and the quesadilla and chilli rellenos were also quite good. We probably will not go back again. I love this place, so very much. The staff is amazing and this is one of the friendliest places I've been to, with very quick service and good food. Being a young family with a toddler, it can be hard to find good places to eat around Boulder where the staff and other patrons aren't giving us the "Oh God, a kid," look of horror. This is one of the things we LOVE about eating in Old Town Erie, all of the restaurants are so kid friendly, and Azteca is the best. The servers go out of their way to make us feel comfortable and always chat up our daughter. Well, as much as you can chat up a tiny human who just babbles nonsense in your general direction. Food is great, fresh, and decently priced. My husband, toddler, and I can all share one meal and still have leftovers to take home. Happy hour margs are a steal, and they are nice and strong. This is not one of those places where you'll be given a weak, sugary drink that vaguely resembles the margarita mix sold at the grocery store. We went with high hopes because Erie has so few good restaurants. The room was so dark and the menu's print so small that we had to get up and decide our meal under a light. We ordered chicken taco salads. How hard can that be and there were only 3 tables of customers. It took 30 min. and the taco salad was gross and tiny. The meat was cold and I told the waiter and asked for the manager. There was no manager and the waiter argued with me when I told him I wouldn't pay He didn't ask, may I get something else for you. We live in Erie so it's close to home, but the food is only so-so, and it's a tad bit on the expensive side, especially for the quality, or lack thereof. We come here regularly for dinner. It has a nice and quite atmosphere and feels relaxed and cozy. You can sit inside or on the patio and watch the little traffic there is in downtown! The food is pretty good, but huge proportions. We are fans of their nachos and enchiladas (not the spinach stuffed enchiladas, though.) We typically order one entree for the two of us and still end up taking leftovers home. They have really good homemade salsas. Overall, it's consistently good and we are happy campers. read more

This has become one of my favorite restaurants and I'm very happy we don't have to go far to enjoy great Mexican food. My go to dish is the house Azetca burrito - large, delicious , great flavor and wonderful sauce. When I like something a lot, I have a hard time trying other things on the menu, but over my last few visits I have branched out and tried their chilis and a few other dishes. They are all quite good, but I have really been impressed with the Colorado chili. Tender, cooked to perfection and the sauce is wonderful. My wife likes the dishes on the lighter side and has liked all of the fish dishes she has tried. We enjoy the chips and salsa before the meal. The salsa is fresh and usually chunky with a nice kick to it and it varies from time to time, which is nice. We are not big drinkers, but enjoy the house margaritas. Have only tried the nachos once - they were above average, but not memorable and filling up on them made it hard to finish my meal, so I don't think I would get them again if I'm having dinner too. There are a number of reviews that comment on slow service. We have noticed this on occasion, but we are never in a hurry when we visit and have never been disappointed by the food (which is why we are there in the first place!). Prices are quite reasonable and the portions are good - good value for your money. read more

Delicious, great portions. I've only gone once but loved the enchilada and chili relleno; the skirt steak was only fair but there was also a plumped up extra pepper and extra beans and rice and tortillas. Margaritas were fine. (Can you really make a bad one?) We munched on chips and salsa as we waited, but didn't get to wait too long. Service was friendly and fast. I agree with the other reviewer from this weekend - out of chips? What?!? Our table was told the same thing, then my husband watched as they served a large table chips and salsa. Maybe they got the last batch. Also, we sat for close to an hour with no food, not good if you have little ones. We told the server calmly but firmly that unless our food was up in the next couple minutes, we'd have to leave. Voila, here came our food, and no break on the bill. Hmm. This is without a doubt one of the better places to eat in the north area refreshing Mexican food adding new stuff to the menu even only after being open for just a few months. Tried the vegetable Chimichanga #4 out of 5 heat was perfect and the taste of that chimichanga was unbelievable to the point I gave the cook a $20 tip!! This is a quiet, home-town restaurant with good food at a fair price. They have a very large menu, and it took me a couple of visits before I found some favorites. I really love the Steak Chicano, and the Pollo Chipotle... The Camarones (Shrimp) "Mexicanos"? are great too. I'm usually pretty fickle about Mexican food, but the sauces used in these dishes in particular are amazing. If you like your food spicy like I do, they can make it legitimately HOT, so tread lightly. They use a "4 stars" scale of hotness, and 3 stars is about all I can handle while still keeping it fun. Alcohol is a bit expensive outside of happy hour, but the premium margaritas are well worth it. The staff are very friendly, and always take extra time to chat and say hello to our kids. I would say that 1 out of 4 times, it is indeed somewhat slow... but not for lack of effort on the staff's part. This is a small town restaurant that I imagine has a hard time planning for customer volume. I've been to my fair share of establishments where the staff were flat out lazy, and this is NOT one of them. We visited and the place was empty. There were 12 of us and we were 1.5 hours before closing we thought it would go quick considering we were one of a few tables. If you come during the day, it's dead and oddly you get terrible service from Severo. We saw our busser more than our server. Took 5 minutes to order drinks, 5 minutes to get drinks and we were the only ones there! The crema sauce is very good but food is pretty standard for your typical unoriginal Mexican restaurant. It's clean and decent but not a place I would recommend. $20 for a beer and two mediocre enchiladas. I can get that and much more at a 5 star Mexican restaurant downtown. read more

Yuck! I would have rather eaten a bean burrito from the gas station because at least the beans would have been cooked and not crunchy. Not only did we wait over an hour for our food, no one greeted us when we walked in, they "ran out of chips" (no they weren't busy), and my order as well as every table next to ours was incorrect. I didn't know you could f**k up a bean burrito and green chili when you are in business to make Mexican food, but I sure was mistaken because the chili looked like split pea soup!!! Worst place I've eaten in a long time! Here's the thing, being from colorado there are a lot of mexican restaurants to choose from. There's no need to charge $10-$15 for a relleno and bean burrito, especially when you can go to santiagos and feed your while family for under $25. Or on the flip side, we could have went to la Loma and had great service/great food/great drinks for the same price. For 2 adults and one child, we spent over $50!!! Needless to say we were very disappointed, left hungry because we couldn't finish our food, and won't be back. read more

One place the whole family can agree upon - the menu is huge! Prices are reasonable and the portions are usually enough to have leftovers for lunch the next day. The salsa and "slaw" they bring out with the chips are excellent. I don't usually have ground beef but decided to try it with a gordita and it was very tasty. Very good Mexican food, margaritas, and service. We've been frequenting this place for the last two years and it's usually our go-to Friday night date night. The people are great and the food comes out fast. I always get a burrito and my wife gets the tostada. The chips are usually warm and follow right behind you once you are seated. The WORST service! We waited 45 minutes on a Sunday night for a cheese enchilada and gauc tostada, beef taco and another cheese enchilada. When we asked why we were waiting so long, the waitress rudely replies well we have one cook what do you expect. When we explained it was our first time there they were very helpful with any questions we had about their menu. The food was fresh and we loved their pico so much they refilled our bowl at no extra charge. The best surprise was the cost of the meal and alcohol. It was less than what we anticipated!!
