We get takeout from here every couple months and have never been disappointed. I highly recommend Parilla Mixta #1 and the Sonora Tacos. If you want to get fancy, add the Chicharron con Guacamole. I had wanted to try this place for some time, as their Latin-inspired menu seems really creative and unique in the North County. My wife and I tried it tonight and couldn't be happier. Although I intended to try one of their steak dishes, I couldn't stay away from the lobster Mac & Cheese. It had an amazing presentation, with a petite lobster tail with shell over a plate of delish Mac n Cheese, The steak dishes will have to wait until next time! My wife had a grilled shrimp dish with mashed potatoes and corn, which was wonderful as well. We tried the house margaritas, which were not listed on the menu, but were refreshing and a great price. They also had some great Mexican beer on tap. The owner was our server and she was so gracious and friendly. She made us feel so welcome, The interior was quiet and calming, with the bar area a real standout, We may just eat there next time! The timing was a little off due to them being short-staffed, but they brought out house-made chips and salsa to hold us over. Beverage options include, soda, beer, and wine. We ordered the Enchiladas Verdes de Pollo, that did not disappoint. The chicken came from their rotisserie chicken, and had a perfectly balanced green sauce. Along with this item, elote corn and their macaroni and cheese. The corn is fresh, coated in cheese, and comes with tajin seasoning. The macaroni and cheese had a creamy cheese sauce that really gave the dish its own voice. The steak dish was perfect. Cooked to a perfect medium temp the steak was juicy, and flavorful. The steak came with a small side of chimichurri that really set off a flavor bomb. The corn and poblano side dish was excellent, while the garlic bread had alot to be desired. Service needs improvement... The lobster mac and cheese is one of the best! The ceviche is actually a tuna poke with tomatoes and cucumber. The salmon was perfectly cooked with excellent mashed potatoes and a corn-pasilla crema. The paella was not authentic in flavor; it had oregano instead of saffron. The menu has been simplified and focused on quality. I ate part of my wife's Cochinita Pibil Tacos so I feel informed enough to weigh in. Having been to the Yucatan and enjoyed this dish many times, the seasoning was slightly different, but a fresh take on it. My only suggestion would be to use the pickled red onions that traditionally accompany this dish. Prices are very reasonable for such well prepared, fresh food. We went to Fuego on a early (4:15pm) Valentine's Day, and there were only 2 other couples there, although, it was early. We were served by a very competent, friendly young man, who spent just the right amount of time at our table, which, was by the window. It is a nicely decorated restaurant with a bar, that appeared to only serve beer and wine, and took up a good amount of space in the restaurant, but it definitely, along with the wood decor, gives the place a distinctive upscale bar vibe. The menu has some pretty interesting options, including mole, enchiladas, and chilaquiles . But also has nachos, burgers, fries, and Mac and cheese amongst a whole host of other offerings. The food was served in a timely fashion, and the food tasted fine, but not overwhelming. The Chicken mole being a better option than the chilaquiles. But the food was good enough to make us want to come back and try some of the other options. This place makes a fine addition to the Atown restaurant scene. read more

We had a delicious early dinner this past weekend at Fuego. Our waitress was attentive and knowledgeable, and gave us lots of time to look at all the menu choices. We chose the Parrillada for two and everything on our plate was delicious. The steak was cooked perfect medium rare, and the rotisserie chicken fell off the bone. It was accompanied by corn and potatoes and corn tortilla quesadilla. The price was very reasonable for this amount of food, and was more than enough for the two of us. Our favorite so far was the Quesabirria Tacos ". They were outstanding! The portions are big and the food delicious. The Picanha with chimichurri was really good too as was their Mac and cheese. It was yummy and not too cheesy. The ambiance is very nice. It's an intimate restaurant with a nice vibe and the service excellent. Their Michelina's are huge and also excellent. Mole did not taste canned, and had a wonderful flavor. Three big enchiladas, stuffed with cheese and chicken with that tasty mole sauce. It was warm, but not hot, which took a bit away. The steak with chimchurri was perfectly cooked and flavorful. It was served on top of mashed potatoes and asparagus that were fresh and buttery. The only concern I had was the steak had a very large strip of fat. I understand fat and flavor go together and I have catered bbq before so I understand the cap and all but this was a lot of fat. We went to Fuego for my wife's birthday - it was AMAZING! She had been eyeing it since it opened as she loves (and knows) Mexican food after living there when she was young. This is not a typical taqueria, it is a rosticeria, and it did not disappoint. We had 15 people in our party and they were very accommodating. The queso fundido and guacamole appetizers were delicious. Everyone loved their meal - scampi, oysters, cod fillet, roasted chicken (my son devoured it), mole, steak, and the queso birria tacos with consome (lbest I've ever had)...all we could talk about was how great the food was. They even brought out a chocolate cake and mini cheesecakes that finished it off. But to top it all, the prices were very reasonable, especially when you are eating home style quality meats and cooking. This was my first time at Fuego. I really enjoyed the ambiance and cute decor. The space was quiet and service was excellent. We ordered agave margaritas which were great but I was disappointed that it was the only cocktail available although they had a nice wine selection. It would be nice to see more option on the menu. The menu looked mosly Mexican with a slight Central American flavor. I had the picanha Chimichuri and was a bit disappointed. I am used to rare thin slices of picanha with Chimichuri sauce on the side but instead it was a thick slice which was over cooked for my taste on mash potatoes. The flavors were there but it did not hit the spot. We also ordered the burrito mojado and it was good but nothing special. There was no desert menu. The quality was great however and I will be trying it again especially if they expend drink and add dessert. read more
