This is a great Mexican restaurant - highly underrated. We always get the molcajete. They have three different kinds. The mixto and the carne are the best. Two of us comelones can eat a full meal twice for one order. It comes with tortillas, beans, and rice. The sides and the salsas are all so flavorful. Some mild and some super picosas. For a dinner it's such a great deal for the price. I'll keep coming here as long as I live in Paso. read more

Mac and cheese was microwaved Kraft, it came in literal chunks, somehow was burnt. Food had absolutely NO taste, forgot drinks, tried charging us for drinks we didn't order and made jokes about (still trying to charge us) fish was stale literally burnt. Really enjoyed my food here. It was early and there was only one other person in the place. It was nice and clean the service was good and friendly. The owner was working and I recognized him from his other restaurant on the other side of town. It's called Tacos Jalisco. He's a really nice guy and his food is great. It's different from the other Mexican restaurants in town. Chips are delicious. Wish the salsa was a little more chunky but it also is tasty. Beans and rice were great. In My personal opinion ,which isn't worth much, his restaurants serve my favorite Mexican food in town. Best flavors and best quality. read more

Stopped by Jalepeno City restaurant today for a light lunch. My wife and I shared the Carne Asada plate and were quite pleased. The meat was seasoned perfectly. The rice and beans was good but the rice was a little on the dry side. The service was fast and our server was very polite and helpful. She recommended the plate and it was delicious. You have to understand this place isn't fancy by any means but the food and service didn't disappoint. We'll most certainly be back. read more

The service was ok. It was lunch time, 1pm, on a Saturday, the place was empty, this should be the first sign that the place wasn't that good. While we waited to decide what to eat, we nibbled on chips and salsa, the salsa not spicy, with a name like Jalapeño City, you would expect a little heat. While we looked over the menu, we noticed it was pricey for the location and atmosphere (torn seats and not that nice of a decor). I ordered Chile Verde, another order a burrito and another person ordered Menudo. None of us liked our meals. The rice was dry, the beans were ok. The sauce in the Chili Verde seemed like it came out of a can, no flavor. I will not return. I am not sure who these other people are who give it positive reviews. I staggered in there by chance, looking for a drink on one of those hot Paso days and found fresh agua frescas. Came back several times for the food! Fresh, authentic dishes, very tasty even for us chili-wimps.. I especially loved their chile rellenos, light and way above average, but really everything has been super. Very friendly service too. This is only a couple blocks off the overpriced strip aimed at the winery crowd, but well worth the detour. read more

I love this restaurant! It's a nice, casual, inexpensive, authentic Mexican restaurant. Not somewhere I'd take guests, but definitely somewhere I go when I don't feel like cooking. On Sundays we like to go for their menudo (and sometimes when it's leftover on Mondays). I also like their enchiladas, tortas, and burritos. The burritos are huge so we always share. Great service, clean little Restaurant. With that said the Shrimp cocktail/Ceviche with Oysters wasn't up to par. The Ceviche I actually enjoyed, however the shrimp on the rim of the glass were spongy and extremely dried out. The oysters weren't great. I've tried the pastor, carnitas, and asada tacos here. ALL the tortillas were dry AF, which is the primary reason for 3 star rating. Pastor tacos: Decent flavor, but nothing to get excited about Carnitas tacos: Not crispy, just salty stewed meat. Asada tacos: Burned to a crisp Green salsa: Delicious, with enough spice, but not crazy spice Red salsa: Bland, and uses obviously canned tomatoes, which isn't necessarily bad, but the rest of the flavors weren't there to elevate the canned tomatoes. I was here for a bicycle race and needed a good menudo, taco and chips for breakfast. Wanted to try this joint - this place is a bomb! Massive portion there small tacos, the salsa was so good and side salsa condiments (red and free) was awesome. This Mexican restaurant we will be dropping when we pass thru Paso Robles. I live nearby and eat here multiple times a week, highly recommend. I grew up in socal eating carne asada fries weekly. I've had carne asada fries from literally dozens of restaurants all over California and Jalapeno city has the best carne asada fries I've been able to find anywhere. Everything else is great as well. Stopped by this little place today on the way home from Monterey, just hungry was off the freeway and had 4.5 stars had to try.. showed up whole place was a ghost town.. menu looked great tho couldn't resist .. we order sopes de al pastor and plate of ceviche with a michelob.. the miche was 5/5 was delicious for sure , sopes, ehh could've been better tasted like asada .. still good .. the ceviche was good but seemed like they didn't give us much shrimp mainly onions and and like shredding a of shrimp lol... only thing I can say is the waiter needs to be a little more attentive to her customers.. didn't come and see how things were just felt like her job was to come ask what we want and just wait for us to pay and leave .. I had to get up to find her for the check and get up again because she never came back out to collect payment .. waited like 15 mins .. girlfriend had minor stomach ache on way home.. not so much me .. 3/5 stars ! read more

Been here twice. Everyone loved their meals. First time I had the shrimp stew (caldo de mararon) it was delicious and the perfect level of spicy with a good hint of the fresh, sea taste that sometimes overpowers the taste at other restaurant. After referring friends and family to eat here and hearing poor reviews each time my husband and I were surprised the feedback we got. Well today my husband I went to sit in for the first time and we got such poor service we didn't end up eating it we just left. The server as soon as we walked in was already in a bad mood. We couldn't get a smile or even a your welcome after saying thank you every single time she handed us a menu or waters. I get having bad days or not feeling up to work.
