Phenomenal! This place hit all the boxes for me! Great ambiance, stellar service and fantastic food! I had the chicken breast and it was just wonderful! My family ordered the brisket and liked it. I can't wait to have a special reason to come back! It definitely feels like a special occasion place to me. It just was a wonderful meal from start to finish!

I made reservations and we sat outside. It was a nice evening. Our server, I don't believe gave us her name and since we paid cash, not on a bill. Everyone was nice and friendly, water glass was kept filled. They bring you bread and butter and I was very hungry. I had a glass of Pinot Noir and my husband had a Modelo. I got the filet mignon medium rare, potatoes and some veggies. My husband got the brisket, veggies and he asked for mashed sweet potatoes. We shared a sorbet for desert. Since they don't have a web site, the pictures of the menu's are not current, prices are higher.

Incredible family run restaurant. Definitely the best on the Central Coast. Don't forget it's cash only! Everything we ordered was delicious and the kindest staff around! 10/10 could not recommend enough

This is easily one of the best restaurants in slo county in terms of quality and taste of the food as well as overall dining experience! I paid for my meal with a check as they do not take cards (cash and check only) and the vibe is country western but you can go casual or dress up. They always have specials and their desserts are great! They book up on weekends so make reservations!

What a blessed first time dining experience we had here! This place was highly recommended by several wine educators at different wineries, so it was a no brainer that we had to check it out while we were back in town! Located in downtown Santa Margarita, this quaint country resto is just off State Route 58. There are only 5 parking stalls in front, so if you make a reservation right when they open (and arrive a few minutes before), you should be able to snag a stall no problem. We were welcomed and seated outside on their cozy patio on a beautiful Thursday evening (seating inside as well). Love their rustic country decor and seeing the surrounding lush grapevines, very photo worthy! Kudos to the staff for being so awesome and attentive. We were told about the specials, which all sounded tempting, but we came to try what was highly recommended from their "Main Event". I'll get back to that in a bit, but first... Before we placed our order, their bread service came out hot, fresh, and fast (love it!). Aside from their wonderful selection of delicious breads (that cornbread...yum!), we also tried their Stinking Rose Pizzette (must try if you're a garlic lover, so good!!!). Since we just came from a wine tasting, we opted for Sweet Tea, which was perfectly sweet and refreshing! Okay back to the "Main Event", which for me was their Elk Medallions (medium rare). Absolutely phenomenal! It was my very first time trying elk before, and it far exceeded my expectations. It was perfectly prepared, lean yet melt-in-your-mouth-tender, and not gamey whatsoever! Wow, just wow! My husband ordered their Ribeye (medium rare), which he also enjoyed wholeheartedly. Our bellies were so happy and full, but like I always say, "there's always room for dessert!". Two words, Hillbilly Heaven...'nuff said! LOL. Note: Cash or check only (us old school kids appreciate this! LOL!). CHEERS and happy eating till next time...

*visited on a Friday night with a group of 4, with a dinner reservation Came here for a double date with some great friends as they had highly recommended the Range. The restaurant is nestled in the small town strip of Santa Margarita, parking is limited in front of the restaurant BUT there's plenty of street parking and a small public parking lot less than a block away. The staff is very kind, patient and fun to talk to. We never had empty water glasses, and had fun talking & vibing with our waitresses. OKAY THE FOOD: * the filet mignon- okay don't judge me, but our entire table had gotten the same entree because of how yummy/ highly recommended it was. I loved it, the dish was yummy and had different textured & flavors. The filet was perfectly made- I had ordered medium and it was SO tender. I highly recommend it if you're wondering. * pulled pork pizzette - loaded and yummy. It was the perfect appetizer for the table, and though different, pretty delicious.

Pleasantly surprised to find this while glamping in the area! This amazing steak house is nestled in santa margarita and is really top notch and better than larger more expensive steak places I've been to. The service was great. All the food was great...from the bread to the soup, salad and of course the filet and the desert too! It's cash only. We went on a week night so not sure if you need reservations on weekends. Highly recommend!

    Happy Anniversary to us

Unfortunately, my first dine-in experience since then was really disappointing. The fettuccine Alfredo was just okay, and I definitely wouldn't recommend the steamed clams. But what really ruined the experience was the bartender. I was standing in line at the bar waiting to order a drink. When it was finally my turn, the bartender took the order of someone who had arrived after me but was already seated at the bar. At first, I didn't think much of it. I assumed customers who were already seated were being served first, so I just waited. Then, a white woman who had been standing in line behind me sat down at the bar. The bartender skipped me again and took her order instead. Thankfully, she immediately pointed out that I had been ahead of her and had been waiting first. The bartender eventually took my order, but his attitude toward me was extremely cold and unfriendly. I don't want to jump to conclusions, but after being passed over twice, I couldn't help but wonder if race had something to do with it. That's what made the experience especially disappointing. I've been a longtime customer and have always enjoyed stopping here whenever I'm in Avila Beach. Unfortunately, after this experience, I'll think twice before coming back.

I opted to do a trio with the bahn mi, tip o' Argentina, and the garlic fries. The food was good I forgot to take a picture! The tip o' Argentina was solid with the garlic aioli and the chimmichurri perfectly complimenting the steak and the lettuce and tomato adding a little bit of freshness. The buns they use for all of their sliders are soft, slightly sweet, and don't fall apart while you're eating. The Bahn Mi was even better. I love pork but was a little skeptical about pulled pork on a slider riffing on the flavors of a bahn mi. To my surprise and delight, it tasted just like grilled Vietnamese pork, which was perfectly complimented by the fresh and pickled veggies and surprisingly hot jalapeño. Finally, I got the garlic fries which were a massive portion, crisp, and very garlicky. Everything was good and with such a large and customizable menu, I'd definitely return if I was in the area again. I also want to give a shout out to the bartender, Kelsey. I sat at the bar and her service was attentive and she was very knowledgeable about the menu. It is a bit off the beaten path I thought, in a seemingly industrial area and parking was hard to find at 12:30 on a Monday. We had to go down the street and around the corner since the lot was full. I got a Gouda Burger, the summer crunch salad, and garlic fries. My wife and kid also had a slider but did Italian Sprouts, mac and cheese with bacon, and sweet potato fries. The slider was good- tasty but a little messy to eat. Both servings of fries were really generous. The salad was a good mix of ingredients. However the mac and brussels sprouts were a bit disappointing. For some there is no such thing as too much bacon but for us both of these dishes definitely had too much bacon- so much that we left a lot of the bacon! And don't get me wrong, I do enjoy my bacon. Overall, a good concept but we'll definitely try some non bacon dishes next time!

We had a great new waiter who was a young g male with dark hair, tall thin and had the popular "Lama" young men's hair style. He was very accommodating as I laid out my requests. Based on past errors from the female waiters I knew what I needed to specifically ask for. As usual they were understaffed. I feel so bad for the staff here. Management shorts staffing to boost profits. It makes dining here stressful and definitely not a relaxed dining experience. Staff other best but they almost literally have to run to keep up with demand Usually there's no busboy either or maybe 1 for inside and out. Dishes always pile up More bad. Don't ever order the prime rib if it's not Saturday. We think my daughter's was cooked on Saturday, served at full price on Sunday but leftovers and was dry and tough. It's costly too. She discovers it back this time as she didn't want to wait another hour for something else. The salads are usually great but this evening they were half salads. Like they ran short and skimped on each one. Onion rings are always good. I dip mine in their salsa. Others catsup or ranch. The ribs were not good -- 2 full racks. The meat was very tough like eating dry pork chops not tender and good. My friend happened to be having her husband's 75th birthday party there toward the end of our meal they showed up. An extra table for about 12 had been added on the grass area at the end of outside the patio. With folding metal chairs. They did NOT staff for the extra seating and my friend texted me after we left that they waited a full HOUR to even get waters!! This is not acceptable. I don't feel that anything will improve until some time that this restaurant is sold and has new management. I just wish that someone would open another steakhouse in North County and provide good service. Apparently we will never see adequate staffing at Loading Chute. So until there's another option we keep coming back. I miss McClintocks in downtown Paso. Finally one last note. I'm a sparkling wine drinker and I love the Wycliffe Sparkling they serve.
