Some of the items are great, service makes this 4 stars for me. My last trip I ordered the fish and chips again. Lots of panko breading that tasted burned, waitress said that is how they do it now, fish was super thin, so she took it away and had me order something else. That was my favorite dish until this last trip. Not sure what changed but not a fan anymore. I decided to try the Italian in a pizza skin. Was not sure what to expect but they take the ingredients from the italian sandwich and put it inside a pizza crust fold it over and throw it in the pizza oven. It was huge and for me way to much crust. The ingredients were great so next time I will just get the sandwich. One in our group had the salmon and liked it. Decorated adorably for the holidays, Fuel Bar is one of my favorite spots in Spring Lake. We came in for lunch on a Sunday and were pleasantly surprised to see they offered their happy hour all day on Sundays. Their HH apps were $8 so I took full advanatage and ordered a burrata and an order of mussels. The boys ordered a Three Little Pigs pizza. It was big enough for them both to eat. I was expecting smaller orders of mussels and burrata since they were on the HH menu, but I got full orders of both. The mussels were so good, the sauce was tasty and the bread was delicious. The burrata could have used a touch more balsamic but the tomatoes were blistered perfectly and the overall flavor was so good. Definitely a must do when you're in Spring Lake. What a find! Fuel has been here for a couple years, but this was our first time here. We sat at the bar and had great service from Jordann. She was friendly, attentive and funny. Started with a 3 Floyd's Cron Beard IPA and a Kentucky Mule with house made apple cider ginger beer. Beer is always good, but oh my goodness, that ginger beer was INCREDIBLE! They also had a blueberry ginger beer that was equally delicious, both on tap. We ordered the meatball pizza that was on special and the haystack burger with fries. Hard to decide which one we liked more! The burger had brisket, fried onions, cheddar cheese and bbq sauce on a brioche bun. The brisket was tender as could be. Burger was cooked perfectly and the fries were piping hot, crispy on the outside and fluffy inside. That pizza tho!! I actually don't know if it would matter what you put on that crust. It is chewy with a crisp bottom and lots of air bubbles for extra goodness. I was just thinking off all the combinations of pizza I want on that crust. read more

Nice spot in Spring Lake Michigan. Ambience was fantastic, loved the decor and lighting. Staff was so so friendly, our server, Parker, was fantastic. Lii oh ya of good, local beers on draft with an extensive cocktail list. The menu was rather small, but all great options with meat, seafood and vegetarian options. My husband and I split the grilled Cesar salad and elote pizza. Everything was so amazing and fresh. I've never had a pizza with the combination of flavors on this pizza and it was fantastic. The wood fired dough really made it. Prices were moderate. I'd definitely recommend this restaurant to others and would go back! read more

In my opinion one of the best restaurants in Muskegon/Grand Haven. My wife and I eat here weekly, and rarely eat the same dish. Chef has weekly specials that are continuously changing. The presentation, and quality of food is very good for the area. I am never disappointed. One thing to be mindful of is the dishes are sometime smaller so I recommend at least getting an appetizer. The "house dip" changes weekly so make sure to ask what it is (always good). Pizza's are fired in a wood oven, and are a great way to round out a multi course meal. The "some kind of old fashioned" is a favorite; and a great way to start dinner! Last but not least the staff are amazing! Same faces every week and never disappoint! The waitress sat on her phone while our order sat there and got cold (we could see it sitting) we were the only ones in there for a while. Wow the elote pizza was such a interesting concept i had to try it and I was not disappointed. The mix of Flavors was amazing and the crust cooked perfectly. Added some jalapeños to it for a little kick. Also had the Cesar salad and it was some of the best cede ar dressing I've have ever had. This place catches your eye when you drive by and is super aesthetically pleasing on the inside too. Lots of natural light!! Finally got in for brunch and was not disappointed. I love how there are a few seating options and a lot of the tables have different looks. We chose the marble high top because we knew instagram had to eat too and would look great in the background . The service wasn't exceptional but friendly and sufficient. We started with the baked French toast which came with mascarpone cream and blueberry compote. What I loved about this dish is that it wasn't sickening sweet, just the right amount! And if you like it more sweet you can add more syrup. I personally ordered the Migas breakfast dish which was a TON of eggs baked with cheese and tortilla chips. Topped with micro greens, black beans and a homemade chipotle crema. I also added chorizo which tasted more like ground beef but it was still good. My only wish to make this dish even better would be to add more tortilla chips and keep them somewhat crunchy to add a crunch factor. Would love to go back and try a lunch or dinner dish, the salads and burgers all sounded delicious! Really want to like this place , it's busy but we had hoped the early hiccups had been solved in the kitchen ... we were too hopeful. Server was awesome and apologetic for the kitchen again this visit. She even brought out dessert for our party in acknowledgment of the kitchen letdown. Known for wood fired pizza they ran out of pizza by 7:45 on a Friday night ... that's irresponsible . Also ran out of veggies as side . Not sure how that happens ... Tuna special was cooked perfectly and had nice array of roasted tomatoes and mushrooms though it came to the table 10 minutes after the rest of the entrees. Several folks ordered the brisket which came with a tasty barbecuing sauce. The brisket however was over cooked and dried out ... smoked brisket should be moist . Hoping they get it right as it was busy but that won't last if these things keep Visited again on a Saturday in August during covid . Excellent craft cocktails and the owner also gave us his recipe for one that was no longer on the menu. Covid menu is sparse and they were out of the special 2 hours in to dinner service. Running out of food continues to plague the restaurant which keeps us from giving it more stars. Cheese board was excellent As well as the Mac and cheese and shrimp and grits. Great spot in little old SL! They are back! Went here with 2 friends the other night & had a awesome time. There was a wait but they took our phone number & texted us when our table was ready (just enough time to pop in Stan's Bar right down the street). They really hit it out of the park with the food. I went for the halloumi burger and it did not disappoint. Also tried a cos-no-politan featuring Seedlip non-alcoholic spirits. My friends each had pizza from their wood fired pizza oven and enjoyed them thoroughly. Our server was very nice and attentive. Really enjoyed my experience and will definitely be back. It's so nice coming back to Spring Lake after some years away and seeing great little restaurants like Fuel. read more

Fuel Bar + Refuge is a breath of fresh air for the Spring Lake/Grand Haven area! The interior design, the original artwork, and the open atmosphere give an ambiance that this area has not experienced before. We knew immediately from walking in that we were going to love the place. The cocktails were GREAT! Again, the surrounding area has been missing a place where you can get a good cocktail, and we were all very impressed with each one we ordered. I had the Rum and Fruit Cocktail (actually a few of them). The barbecue dinner really surprised me. Having lived in Kansas City for almost 3 years, I usually feel disappointed when I visit other BBQ restaurants. I ordered the Brisket Sandwich with a side of potato salad, and I loved it! The brisket was tender, the sauce was to die for, and the potato salad was just the right flavor. The new owner, Paul, introduced himself at the bar, and he talked to us a number of times during our visit. He was very friendly and personable. This restaurant could be so good. We ate dinner there two nights in a row June 22 and 23 on a driving trip.The food is very good, no question about that. Good food well made and interesting menu too. Staff servers were quick and well trained. Very good service. The problem was strictly in the kitchen. There appears to be one chef. The first night we waited an acceptable time for our dinners. The second night, Friday, we waited over an hour to have dinner served. This is unacceptable and we almost left. The table next to us were waiting the same length of time and told us "It's always like this." This restaurant could be so good if only the kitchen problems were fixed fast! If not, I'd be surprised if it stays open for our next visit. This is one place that deserves to stay open, but the owners need to fix whatever is wrong now. read more

WARNING NOT COVID19 COMPLIANT!!!!! It pains me to give a 1 star rating as the food was amazing for the most part but into that later. We visited 9/25 from approximately 7:00 to 8:20pm, upon entering one of the hostess was not wearing a mask properly and I should have known to leave then but figured she didn't realize it slipped below her nose. Our waitress only once throughout the evening even attempted to use a mask (and not appropriately) despite having a cheetah print mask around her neck the entire time. To make things even worse she was constantly leaning in closer to us to show us things. While super friendly I find this behavior during a pandemic as disrespectful. I was so uncomfortable and this nearly started a world war in my house (my boyfriend hates confrontation and I either had to deal with him being pissed for days or not say anything). Now you move onto the fact that it took nearly 10 minutes for the first sign of a beverage in the form of lukewarm water that had stuff floating in it. I figured fine I will order some Prosecco in a split bottle that has to be hygienic as I can get. Well the initial drinks ordered took nearly 20 minutes to get and since I ordered my Prosecco later I didn't get it for nearly 30 minutes after sitting down if not longer. The food took about 50 minutes to arrive but I am not going to complain about that as that kind of wait for really good food is worth it, but they need to fix the service of beverages while waiting. That's where it gets worse the pizza that was ordered had never been fired! Oh boy!! They did get the margarita pizza out about 20 minutes later but it was by far the least liked thing at the table and I have to wonder if that is because it was made quickly. Now the gnocchi was AMAZING and so was the bang bang shrimp. The items along with the fries blew my mind and also made me sad as I know I can't go back due to the lack of respect for guests and the community with the mask issues. I really wish I had seen someone else's review who had noted that. To sum it up service sucked, not covid19 compliant but food is amazing overall, do with that what you will. Neat building too! This place only has to do a few (but very important things) to be 5 star. Oh they did get my order wrong too as I ordered no protein with my gnocchi but it came with shrimp which is no big deal to me but man what a nightmare if you were allergic and had just waited nearly an hour for your food!! read more

We used to love this place. Smoked chicken wings were some of the best around. Today we received wings with no smoked flavor at all and they were meh, no flavor. We also ordered a couple pizzas. We've had pizza there before and they were good. What we got today were not good. The red sauce had no flavor. The sausage looked like pre cooked from a bag. Really disappointed because this was a really fun, good change of pace stop for us. I never write bad reviews, but todays food that cost $100 was so bad, I'm never going back. First time trying this new restaurant and I have to say the food was amazing. Four of us decided to go an have a few appetizers early before dinner, but when I saw smoked pastrami beef rib as one of the specialty dinner offerings I had to order it. My good friend did the same and our wives ordered the other dinner specials, sea scallops. The beef rib was outstanding cooked to perfection an served on a bed of sauerkraut with mustard. The sea scallops were deeply seared and tasty. The only recommendation I would have is to sear the other side so the scallops would be cooked more evenly. The head chef, Damon, came by the table and then brought his team by to say hi. They were very engaging and friendly. I could tell from the conversation that our meal was going to be good! Paul the owner stopped by and was a pleasure to talk to. The service from all the staff was exemplary. I highly recommend that you try this new gem in Spring Lake.
