We were looking forward to trying Th Blue Porch! Finally made it in Sunday, 12/1 around 3:45pm. The restaurant wasn't full and we were able to sit at the bar. The space is nice, open and airy. The door to the covered, outdoor patio was propped open and I don't think the heat was on out there. That made the interior of the restaurant pretty chilly. Add metal barstools and it felt even colder! The bartender took great care of us. She was friendly and efficient. They have happy hour appetizer specials all day on Sunday! We didn't realize that when we ordered - but I am thrilled with what we had instead. We ordered a Loaded hot dog and a Chili dog as appetizers. They were both so dang good! Because we ordered 2 hotdogs, they were served as a meal with chips and Cole slaw. The chips were good, seemed to be house made. The slaw was even better. It wasn't sweet which was a nice change to the typical slaw. What we were both thought their smashed burgers sounded good, and that's the main reason we chose The Blue Porch this afternoon. He ordered the BBQ Bacon Smashed Burger and I had the Peanut Butter Burger. Both were decent - but they were NOT smashed burgers. These were definitely pre-made, likely previously frozen patties. They were quite a bit thicker than a smashed burger would be and with the perfectly uniform size, shape and density, you know it wasn't weighed by hand and smashed on a flat top. This was disappointing. Had we known they were out of smashed patties we would have ordered something else. If this is typically what is served, don't call it a smashed burger. Yea, I know I am being super picky about it. We will be going back for the hot dogs and several appetizers we wanted to try.

We popped in on a Friday night around 8pm and the first red flag should have been no wait. We were seated outside, and when I say it took 15 minutes for the server to come over, it's not an exaggeration (I had been texting with my kids). She looked at us several times, and kept doing her thing, so I assumed she wasn't our server. My husband's water was never refilled, and once I got a drink, she never asked me if I wanted another. I ordered the roasted rice bowl, and tried to add braised beef, but they were out so I added grilled chicken on. The veggies and rice in the bowl were tasty and something I would order again, but the chicken was not. It looked like it had been boiled, then tossed on the grill to get marks on it. My husband ordered the smashburger, and didn't eat more than two bites. He said it tasted dirty, and while he can be dramatic sometimes about food, I tried it, and had to agree with him. The location is great, outside in GH in the summer is always good, my lone drink was fantastic, but the food was mostly a miss for us.

Timely service, even with it being seat-yourself. Staff was very nice and attentive and had good knowledge of the menu and preferences. Drinks never ran low and food was served nice and hot. I ordered the Peanut Butter Burger and it was superb. Everybody sampled each others and the Mac and cheese, fries, onion rings, and drinks were great. Location of the restaurant is great too and the look is inviting with appropriately volumed music and views. Would recommend and will come again.

New place in grand haven we decided to try, reason prices and great food. Didn't have any drinks but my favorite food was the ribs that I liked so much i forgot to get a photo lol. Also enjoyed the warm doughnuts! I had the ceasar salad and it was delicious. Everyone enjoyed there meal and we will be going back soon.

Second visit: even better than the first time. My friend got the Brussels sprouts which were great and I had to take a photo of my pretty delicious drink.

    Blue Olive "Smashburger"

This was our first time here and we really wanted to like this place, but it fell short on a few key points: *cold interior, had to wear a coat during dinner *small portions *burgers were not smashed as advertised...on the smallish size too. (Tasted overwhelmingly of Blue Cheese...poor burger to blue cheese ratio *ketchup on table was empty This may all sound picky, but it lends to a mediocre experience which doesn't bode well for a return visit. It's just average, but if you are looking for something new and aren't that hungry come for a beer and appetizer...bring your coats. *

The Brussel sprouts and chicken tenders were awesome! You can tell that the tenders are breaded in house, I felt that I got a large portion.

The food was fine but not great. I was disappointed to see so many high top tables inside. It was not as ADA accessible as I would like.

The indoor/ outdoor space blends together in the warmer months with cool hangout spaces and game areas. This place is truly a work of art. Drink lists abound, but because it was lunchtime we stuck to food. We were not disappointed. Everything was well conceived and delicious. I can't wait to come back and try the bone bread next time, stew and scrumptious sounding salads. Today we had the kids smash burger, Brussels burger with frites and fried haddock and frites with a delicious coleslaw. The best part? Different sauces to choose to dip the fries in. The curry ketchup was the best (special shout out for *actually* cooking the curry into the ketchup) as it did not taste of raw curry. They definitely don't cut corners here. We noticed, and we appreciated it. We will be back.

Yes, they have a small parking lot, and don't fret if you have the park on the street like we did, as we were seating promptly and it didn't feel too crowded. Since we were seated at high tops near the bar, the bar tender was our waitress, and she is literally the nicest, good energy, engaging human ever! She also whips up the custom, creative mimosa recipes, kudos to her for her awesomeness! I ordered the Shakshuka, flavorful, delicious, would order again. Even as a non-vegan, it was satisfying and would recommend to everyone. Husband had the 1964 Worlds Fair Waffle, and it was tiny. Not what you envision when you think of Belgian waffles. He also ordered the Belgian Forest Bacon, again VERY small portion, so much so that at the end of the meal, he had to order a side of the Smashed Maple Sausage. Both our drinks (I had the mimosa) were fantastic and worth ordering, loved the glassware! Aside from the small portions of waffle, bacon, and sausage, the cheerful vibes here are contagious, and I'd dine here again in a heartbeat!

The atmosphere is very moody, which fits the hole in yhe wall 1st impression. The 2nd impression is it's very welcoming and gives small town vibes. I ordered a bowl of N'AWLINS GUMBO ($8) which has medley of rice, okra, Andouille sausage & chicken. It was very good and did give that southern feeling and would be especially good on a cold day. For my main I ordered the POLISH PLATE ($18)  two kielbasa, three pierogies, cabbage roll and kapusta. This was excellent. The Kielbasa were tasty and just as good as dedicated Polish restaurants. The Kapusta is a Polish cabbage dish baked with onions, mushrooms, and sauerkraut. It was excellent, I don't think I've had it before, I'll definitely be having it again. I didn't think I like cabbage, at the very least, I like theirs alot. The pierogies were excellent and only needed the sour cream to be perfect. If you like Polish food, I definitely recommend this dish! The service was very friendly and efficient. Overall an easy 5 star review. Would I return? Absolutely. The only issue would be do I get the excellent Polish dish or try something else?

Location Drinks My husband had the Mule and I had the Blueberry Vodka Lemonade. SOOOO good! My husband and I stopped here after a day at the beach because we hadn't been here in years! It will definitely be the last time we eat here. The pizza was cold, wet and soggy at the bottom. I ended up eating a couple of pieces around the sides, closer to the crust where it wasn't wet gross bread. My first bite I said to my husband "This tastes like Red Baron pizza." I highly do not recommend the pizza. I've had the lettuce wraps while hanging out at Odd Sides and they were delicious! The service was honestly also not great. She was friendly enough, but being attentive to guests was not trained into any of the servers working the outdoor seating area. We were one of 3 tables outside, so they were not busy. I can understand, and have total empathy for, being a server in weeds so deep it's hard to get drinks re-ordered (been there done that), but today was not the case. At one point there were 5 servers/hostess standing around the hostess stand while our drinks were empty. Wild. I saw what looked like a manger walking in the area twice (not near us) and at one point another server was talking on her phone while walking through the outdoor dining area, telling the person on the other line "I'm still at work." Physically yes, mentally no. I can't help but feel like the cold wet pizza I was less of a kitchen issue than a service issue. The outdoor patio dining area is probably one of the most tired looking on the street of downtown Grand Haven with chipped paint on stools and old umbrellas (what few there were). Kirby used to be a destination in Grand Haven for their food, service and wood fired pizzas. I'm sad about what it's become now. I'd recommend go elsewhere. There are so many great places for eats and drinks that you can pass on Kirby House. I'm holding out hope for a big comeback for this place!
