We really wanted to love Blue Porch and tried it three times but this visit had problems from start to finish. Service was slow out of the gate -- despite our waiter hanging out with a table he clearly knew. Food didn't fare much better. We ordered the smash burger, which by definition should come with cheese and smash sauce -- that's the whole point of a smash burger, not an add-on. Ours came with neither, and even though it had two patties, we had to pay extra just to add a single slice of cheese. It was incredibly dry, even after adding that cheese and trying table condiments to compensate. The chicken tenders looked appetizing but the chicken itself was stringy and overcooked. Dessert was the low point. We ordered the Oreo cheesecake bites and waited over 20 minutes, only to be served what was essentially liquid pudding in a shooter glass with whipped cream on top. Our server admitted, "I didn't know I was supposed to make it" -- it seems the dessert needed time to set in the fridge and was served before it was ready. While we were waiting we heard another table complaining. The server responded "chill. It's all good". The table responded "actually it's not all good!" Three strikes and we're out. Very good happy hour. $5 draft beers from breweries: Bells and Armory. The food offering was also decent with $1 wings, huge servicing of Brussels Sprouts and cheese curds for under $10. The wings seemed to be fried with maybe a little bit of corn starch and were okay, and you can add sauces including Buffalo, BBQ and anything from their wall of bottled sauces. The real star was the Brussels sprouts which had kind of a honey, balsamic, chili sauce. They were crispy and very well cooked. The service was also great. The servers were highly attentive. There were multiple TVs playing the French Open including a huge wall sized projection. Great place for watching sports! read more

Our party of 8 was in for lunch on a Tuesday afternoon. Unfortunately they were painfully short staffed and the health inspector was conducting a surprise visit. Our wait was very very long (nearly 2 hours) from the time we sat down until we got our food. However, our server (the only one in the whole restaurant), Keisha, did an incredible job! We were looking forward to trying Th Blue Porch! Finally made it in Sunday, 12/1 around 3:45pm. The restaurant wasn't full and we were able to sit at the bar. The space is nice, open and airy. The door to the covered, outdoor patio was propped open and I don't think the heat was on out there. That made the interior of the restaurant pretty chilly. Add metal barstools and it felt even colder! The bartender took great care of us. She was friendly and efficient. They have happy hour appetizer specials all day on Sunday! We didn't realize that when we ordered - but I am thrilled with what we had instead. We ordered a Loaded hot dog and a Chili dog as appetizers. They were both so dang good! Because we ordered 2 hotdogs, they were served as a meal with chips and Cole slaw. The chips were good, seemed to be house made. The slaw was even better. It wasn't sweet which was a nice change to the typical slaw. What we were both thought their smashed burgers sounded good, and that's the main reason we chose The Blue Porch this afternoon. He ordered the BBQ Bacon Smashed Burger and I had the Peanut Butter Burger. Both were decent - but they were NOT smashed burgers. These were definitely pre-made, likely previously frozen patties. They were quite a bit thicker than a smashed burger would be and with the perfectly uniform size, shape and density, you know it wasn't weighed by hand and smashed on a flat top. This was disappointing. Had we known they were out of smashed patties we would have ordered something else. If this is typically what is served, don't call it a smashed burger. Yea, I know I am being super picky about it. We will be going back for the hot dogs and several appetizers we wanted to try. read more

The staff is friendly and they have space and high chairs for toddlers. They were out of a few items we wanted when we came but the other food we ordered was good. It's within walking distance of our home so it's nice to have a fun friendly place close by. read more

We popped in on a Friday night around 8pm and the first red flag should have been no wait. We were seated outside, and when I say it took 15 minutes for the server to come over, it's not an exaggeration (I had been texting with my kids). She looked at us several times, and kept doing her thing, so I assumed she wasn't our server. My husband's water was never refilled, and once I got a drink, she never asked me if I wanted another. I ordered the roasted rice bowl, and tried to add braised beef, but they were out so I added grilled chicken on. The veggies and rice in the bowl were tasty and something I would order again, but the chicken was not. It looked like it had been boiled, then tossed on the grill to get marks on it. My husband ordered the smashburger, and didn't eat more than two bites. He said it tasted dirty, and while he can be dramatic sometimes about food, I tried it, and had to agree with him. Our 2nd trip here in 3 days. New favorite spot in town!! I have had their rice with grilled vegetables and the sesame salad with added shrimp. These were spectacular! My husband has had the olive burger and the braised beef sandwich. Both phenomenal! ( I can confirm, tasted both!) Kelsey was ironically our server both days. She is AWESOME!! Very cute inside. New place in grand haven we decided to try, reason prices and great food. Didn't have any drinks but my favorite food was the ribs that I liked so much i forgot to get a photo lol. This was our first time here and we really wanted to like this place, but it fell short on a few key points: *cold interior, had to wear a coat during dinner *small portions *burgers were not smashed as advertised...on the smallish size too. (Tasted overwhelmingly of Blue Cheese...poor burger to blue cheese ratio *ketchup on table was empty This may all sound picky, but it lends to a mediocre experience which doesn't bode well for a return visit. Have been here few times and really like the atmosphere. It has a laid back/fun vibe. The food is fine. I have had the smash burger, a couple of the hot dogs, and chicken sandwich. On top of that, my family has had several other things. I wouldn't say anyone disliked anything but nothing was "you gotta try this" level. The "seat yourself" style is normally fine, as I go to plenty of restaurants that are "seat yourself", but this restaurant doesn't seem to have it figured out yet. They may not come to you. Let me start by saying, I really wanted to like this place more as I was excited for the direction they took with this revamp. It might have just been too high of expectations given the reviews or an off day but definitely on the fence about returning. First, we ordered the cheese curds since they were on special for Happy hour. The taste was decent with good sauce but the curds were under-done and soggy with no crunch on the breading. Taste was still good though. We ordered a kids salad and a kids Mac n cheese for our kids and we decided to split a shrimp po' boy with tots. The kids menu does not list a price but they were $5 each ( just a heads up) The salad was fresh and my daughter loved it. My son took two bites of the Mac n cheese and would not eat it saying it tasted "bad". I tried it and instantly knew why he didn't like it. While I enjoyed the taste and most adults would, it clearly was made with a "funkier" cheese rather than cheddar or or American style. Again, I thought it was good but it might not be a hit with kids why don't like strong tasting cheeses. For the po' boy, the cook and seasoning on the shrimp was good. The problem was the portion, it was not even close to the same size as previously pictured reviews. It was basically a brat bun (usually they are served on a sub bun) with only 4-5 shrimp total and the tots were tasty but again, a lot less than most places I've been. The service was fine given that it was pretty busy. The daily happy hour value for drinks is a nice addition to Grand Haven and I am sure they will refine things as time goes on. I still like the concept but wanted to share some things to be aware of with an honest review and truly hope this place continues to thrive and grow! read more

Met a friend here for lunch this week. It was the first visit for my friend and I. The decor was nice and somewhat as expected however the seating was limited and most of the seating was bar height and awkwardly crowded. It was not particularly busy however it took a long time to get service. The food is mainly bar type food and a little less than what I was expecting. I ordered a burger as did my friend. It was about a half hour until we got our food, and my burger was stone cold. My friend complained his was overcooked. I also noticed that the lettuce and tomato on the burger was not very fresh.
