We just noticed (10 months too late) that where two of our favorite restaurants (Francesco's and Mikuna, 300 block of Alcazar in Coral Gables) had been, they opened a new restaurant named Fugato. Currently, per Miami-Dade executive orders, only outside seating is allowed, so reservations are required. I don't even know where to begin... We started off with an appetizer special. Mashed plantains stuffed with short ribs....it was exceptional (so sorry forgot to take a picture). Followed the AMAZING APPETIZER with two entrees...one on the menu, Chicken Julienne ( although when I ordered he said they could make anything I wanted, a chicken marsala, a chicken picatta, whatever)...I was soooo tempted to order differently, but I stuck to the menu...it was ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!!! Hubby opted for a special, Corvina (normally served with mashed potatoes and veggies), but the waiter gave him the option of anything he wanted, so he had it with Risotto. It was ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE, yes, I tasted it!!! We ended with a homemade guava cheesecake it was the best we have EVER HAD!!! I try visiting all my favorites on weekends supporting our local restaurants!! This one is a definite 5 STAR recommendation, you won't be disappointed!! This place just opened but you wouldn't know by the quality of food and service! We shared the "Rainbow Tiradito" as an appetizer and then we each had one of their pasta specials. I had a pasta filled with a pear and cheese mix and my friend had a "gnocchi" filled with porcini mushrooms and cheese. All of the food was absolutely amazing!! Food is usually good here, but something wasn't right last time - ended-up sick after the meal. Not a huge selection of dishes on the menu, but the specials offer a bit of variety. Nice dimly-lit ambiance. Some decent wines on the wine list. Service is usually fine, except for the owner/manger who can have a bit of an attitude and is lacking in interpersonal skills, like making eye-contact - he'll look away while you're ordering as if he's bored and not listening, and double-checks on some tables throughout the evening while ignoring others - it's a small dining room and it's quite noticeable. If you haven't tried this place you're missing out. Your typical hole in the wall that does not disappoint. The menu is small but allows for daily specials. Tell the waiter what you are in the mood for and he is sure to recommend something delicious! For an appetizer, I really wanted to try the tostones costolette because I saw it on Instagram and it looked so good and let me tell you, it tastes as good as it looks. So much flavor! Ordered one of the specials which was stuffed mushroom ravioli with a Marsala sauce and boyyy that sauce was on point! Loved it so much! Also ordered the gnocchi porcini with a Gorgonzola sauce and if you're reading this review, order this. It also comes as an appetizer. This is hands down THE BEST GNOCCHI I'VE EVER TRIED. It melts in your mouth, the flavor is to die for, the sauce is so good you want to dip your bread in it and lick the plate. My only complaint is that the plate is pretty small so if you're hungry, it won't fill you up. Ended it with a cortadito which was made with love and espumita. This place is excellent! The best part was crab cake. It was fantastic very fresh a bed of greens with lots of crab and little filler. It had almost like a fresh chutney type of fruit/ glaze on top.
