We just bought a home in Coral Gables and have been staying in a hotel for three weeks while preparing to move in. During that time, we made the mistake of trying Mortex Mediterranean, and it was an absolute disaster from the moment we walked in. The server was rude, untrained, and clueless -- she couldn't answer basic questions about the food and came back five minutes after dropping off our plates asking if we needed a to‑go box. We hadn't even started eating. My wife's dish and mine were passable, but the $39 wagyu burger for my 10‑year‑old was so bad he couldn't eat it and ended up crying. The fries were beaten up, stale, and tasted like they'd been reheated three times. When I told the waitress, she brushed it off with a useless "okay" and walked away. No apology, no fix, no manager -- nothing. For a city like Coral Gables, this place is an embarrassment. Terrible service, cheap ingredients, premium prices, and zero accountability. Even my son said we should've gone to Shake Shack because at least they respect customers and serve edible food. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone. We decided to have a family dinner here tonight based upon the reviews and the quality of the food. It did not disappoint. We were seated on the outside patio as we had arrived around 5:45 PM with no reservation and this was awesome. The weather is so nice right now! We did order some hummus and pita bread and the kids blew through that first Pita so quickly we had to order another, lol. They ended up with the Italian plate, which is really a pizza and it was perfect for them Between the four adults, we ordered a chicken Shawarma plate, a chicken schnitzel plate and the chicken key fobs. How we all ended up ordering chicken at the same time. I am not sure, but it was more food than the four of us could finish. We also had a house salad that was also very tasty. Nah, this has to be the absolute BEST happy hour deal in Miami because what do you mean I got to try all these different delicious small portioned dishes and a couple of cocktails for $5, EACH. And the deal it's between 3-7pm I believe...what!!! Best dishes for me, the lollipops, the zucchini cake and the summer salad. Best cocktail between the Summer Scale and Hibiscus Heat, is the latter. If you love watermelon, then that would be an excellent choice...very refreshing too. The lollipops are literally "flg", no pun intended. The zucchini cake with the side sauce is fire. The summer salad is just perfection especially in this Miami heat. This location is also one of the most aesthetically pleasing ones, no doubt. Service at the bar area was exceptional as well. There were a few other families there. As a mom, I wished they had more options for kids. All they offered was the mozzarella flatbread for adults. My son liked it but there were other adult meal options that could be easily turned into kids sized options such as the chicken schnitzel. First time at Motek and I left conflicted. There were really good moments and really low moments throughout the dinner service. My whole group ordered cocktails. Everyone's drink came out within about a 10min period, besides mine. It was not until about another 10mins after that our server returned and let me know the lychee martini was no longer available. We took the servers recommendations for the appetizers and they were the best part of the night (hummus & cigar rolls). The entrees (branzino and hanger steak) were just underwhelming. The restaurant is bright and big inside. There's an open kitchen in the back, large tables for groups and a private room. Even though the place was loud and busy, I was able to get a table without a reservation for Sunday lunch and converse with my companion with ease - so much better than the Boca location. I recommend everything we had- hummus, chicken shwarma,and watermelon salad. Both the shwarma and hummus came with a small amount of spicy green sauce. It was very spicy. Motek has been on my list to try for awhile now so when I saw there was one in Coral Gables I took my daughter for lunch. It was easy to grab a table on a Thursday afternoon,although i have a feeling dinner is much more difficult (especially on the weekend). The restaurant atmosphere lives up to the hype. It's a beautifully decorated restaurant with a fun atmosphere. Our server was super friendly and helpful when it came to explaining the menu, which are small and slightly bigger plates that should be shared. The food was good, but I was expecting amazing. We started we the classic hummus and tzatziki, which came with amazing bread. I was well into the bread when I noticed they brought matzah to the table next to us and realized I had broke passover within the first 12 hours. Oops, but if you're going to break it this bread was worth it. One dip would have been plenty so I would go with just the hummus next time. Or I'm a big fan of spicy feta, but my daughter doesn't share my love so we opted out this time As for more small plates we also shared the salmon skewers (5 stars), cauliflower (4 stars) and chicken kebabs (3 stars). Came here during a work weekend with several colleagues. We decided to get a variety of dishes so we could try multiple things. The salmon and chicken schnitzel were top of the list. The falafel, lamb shank and tuna tartare were huge hits as well. The pita and hummus were delicious we decided to also try the French hummus but for most it was a bit over the top. Okay so the food at Motek is FANTASTIC...but we had...issues. My friend and I came for lunch during Miami spice and it was packed. Our appetizers (the cauliflower and hummus) came out quickly. The hummus was some of the best I've had, along with the pita. My entree, the chicken shawarma bowl, took over 40 minutes... My friend ordered the arayes. The original order she got was still raw. Don't get me wrong, I eat all my meat cooked rare, but this was fully raw. When she asked for a new order of it, they brought back her same plate (bite marks in the meat and all...), completely burned to a char. WHAT??? She had to send it back again for a freshly prepared dish. Is it me or is it completely unsanitary to take a bitten piece of meat, and put it back on a grill that's used to cook other diners their food?? We spoke to the manager and he didn't even give a discount which is absurd considering how long it took for my dish, and the multiple rounds of the arayes... That said, when cooked properly, the arayes are very good, as was the dessert (baklava and pistachio gelato). We've been Motek fans since they first opened in the Gables and it's been one of our neighborhood favorites for a couple years now. We love the small-plates concept because it makes it easy to mix things up and try something new each visit. The Moroccan cigars, tuna tartare (original), labneh, and halloumi have always been our go-tos. That said, the menu recently changed and I'm not loving the new tuna tartare--it's missing the flavor the previous version had. I really miss the old one with avocado. We also preferred the original halloumi. Service is consistently excellent. The staff is always friendly, genuine, and on point. We used to come often for happy hour, which had great specials and delicious cocktails, but the new 2-5pm happy hour just isn't practical. That said, Motek is still one of our favorite spots in the neighborhood and we'll keep coming back to. read more

This restaurant has great Mediterranean food. We were a party of 17.and were sat in a private room. Servicemen was good but I think we needed more than the two servers assigned to us. We had two wines to choose from and a select menu to choose from. My favorite items were the hummus, pizza, chicken schnitzel and salmon. The salmon and chicken had excellent flavor. Ialso liked the lentils. I would not choose the cabbage salad again. The pita for the hummus was plentiful and very tasty. The atmosphere is very stylish and welcoming. This restaurant is truly unique. There are not many Israeli/Mediterranean restaurants around. This one REALLY stands out. It is truly outstanding! There were 17 of us last night in their private room. This was a prix fixe menu. I was really impressed with the food. But, let's start with the wine....they had two offerings. One was Details Cabernet Sauvignon from California. It was excellent. The other was a Sauvignon Blanc from Miami, which I assume is from Schnebly Winery... We tried so many things. At the end of the evening, we went around the table and everyone said their favorite dish. I truly had a hard time picking one, but I did. That was the chicken schnitzel. It was fried just right. The flavor was delicious. I do think the pieces could have been larger under normal circumstances. I loved the pizza. I don't think it is even on their regular menu. It was terrific. I was told there was spicy and regular hummus. I assumed I would not like the spicy, but I was wrong. It was even better than the traditional hummus. It is not too spicy at all. The Babaganoush was delicious. I am not usually an eggplant person, but this was grilled just right, seemed fried to me though. The crunchy cabbage salad was pretty good. The dressing for it was awesome. It was served on the side but several of us could have used more of it. The Majadra lentils and rice was good. The Harissa honey salmon was so good. I like salmon but imagine people who don't love it would like this one. The Za'atar fries were so good. I did not get to try the sauces. What they give is just about right to share with one other person. The oven pita bread was so good. I could not stop eating this with the spicy hummus. They give two large portions of it, one on top of the other. Last, was the dessert. This was a sort of ice cream. This is Halva Silvan ice cream. This ok...not what I am used to. It has something on top, not sure what it is. I would probably try a different dessert next time if they have one. I'm a fan of Motek, originally from their Downtown Miami lunch. So when a friend who lives in the Gables asked about meeting there for dinner, it was one of the quickest and easiest "Yeses". It's located on Miracle Mile, in the old Tarpon Bend space and within walking distance of a couple of city garages. This visit, service was really attentive from everyone from the hostess, our server, a manager who stopped by our table, and even our busser who mentioned and brought by a sample of his favorite creamy & spicy seasoning (I want to say it's like a red pepper based). As I mentioned, I've eaten at their downtown Miami location before so I made sure to start with their muhamarra, a mildly spicy blend of red peppers, walnuts and cranberry. In addition to the very large pita bread that accompanied it and the classic humus, I used the spice to boost my chicken kebab. Even by itself, the chicken was juicy, tangy, and well flavored. The pita bread was warm and fluffy and again very generously portioned. My friend decided to order their New York Pita, which had the same warm and fluffy base, but was topped with pastrami and mustard. This was my least favorite portion, but notice as I didn't remove any five stars because my friend who's a fan of this meat said it was tasty. I tried a couple of the hummus, I recommend the marmalade which has a sweet aspect and the pita was amazing. The crispy cauliflower was delicious and the Moroccan cigars were yummy as well. The chicken shawarma was huge, the salmon was also delicious with a side of rice and lentils. The street corn was the best side in my opinion and I would definitely skip the lemon potatoes, I was not a fan of those. Soooooo...I'll start off by saying I've been Yelp Elite for quite a while and if you look at my reviews almost all are positive or have a positive ending...until today the drink was great Motek Margarita, labneh marmalade excellent. Server asked about allergies, we told her wife is allergic to peanut and sesame. This is where things started to spiral downward. She came back and told us peanut was no problem but sesame would be a problem because of cross contamination and that almost everything has sesame. Couldn't really tell if she was being cautious or trying to convince us to leave. On to the food...I ordered chicken schnitzel plate. Wife ordered their wagyu burger cooked medium. So my food came out first which I felt like this type of restaurant would time the service. My wife encouraged me to eat so my food wouldn't get cold. Chicken was great but thankfully she hadn't ordered it as the breading of the schnitzel was covered in sesame seeds (not listed on the menu). My wife's burger came out when I was almost done with my food, and the burger was a burnt, dry hockey puck. Inedible. It also was not hot, fries also hot. And the bun? Covered in sesame seeds. I think maybe they could have asked if we wanted two bottom buns?! At this point we were just done with the experience and paid the check and left. This is the 2nd time I have been to Motek but the first at this location (the first time I visited in Aventura). I was looking forward to checking out the Coral Gables location. They had this giant table near the kitchen that easily seated 12-14 people that looked like such a cool spot to sit with friends or amongst strangers. We came on a Tuesday evening and the place was hopping! Being out of towners stopping off for dinner before going to our hotel, we weren't sure if it was always this busy, but there were quite a few large parties both inside and outside. We ordered the crispy cauliflower, the New York pita (hot pastrami, garlic and arugula on a pita open faced like a pita) and the roasted eggplant. Plenty for two people to share. I wouldn't have ordered the NY pita normally when coming to an Israeli restaurant, hot pastrami being very unusual to see on a menu with so much Sephardic influence, but we ordered it anyway and it was good! (And we ordered the last one available so apparently everyone else likes it too :)). I could skip the cauliflower in the future as it wasn't that special (but the honey did give it a sweet and delish flavor) but the eggplant was quite tasty. I would order dips with pita the next time as that's more typical "mezze" fare. We topped off the evening with the most amazing and super rich halva icecream. To die for!!! Don't miss it !!!! I was too full for the tahini date shake but that too is delicious. Note that 20% gratuity is added to your bill automatically no matter what size your party, So just be prepared! So so happy they opened a location next to me! As to be expected this place was packed, and it wasn't even happy hour time! We ordered the mushroom hummus ( my favorite on the menu, a must) The hummus is so smooth and creamy. It comes with pita to dip. We also always have the morracan cigars. My mom was reluctant to try because she doesn't eat lamb, but it ended up being her favorite thing! We had the crispy eggplant which was okay but a little soggy, you can skip. We ordered Laffa, beef hummus, Motek pickles, chicken schwarma street food, and hummus shakshuka. We ended the meal with a knafeh for dessert. The menu now has cocktails and hot and cold menu items for $5, Monday-Friday from 3-7, in Miami and Coral Gables no less, is so rare nowadays. We ordered the salmon skewers and the fried halloumi. **Firstly, this review isn't about the food.** I've dined at Motek on numerous occasions, and the food is always top-notch--delicious, vibrant, and consistently great. This review is about my most recent visit and the unfortunate series of events that unfolded. I was dining with two others, and everything started off fine. We got our table, ordered drinks, and we were off to the races. But as soon as the beverages arrived, things took a turn. While collecting our menus, the server reached across the table, and in doing so, knocked over my beer. We had *just* been commenting on how thin and delicate the glassware was. Turns out, thin glass breaks easily. I ended up wearing the entire beer--and possibly a pint's worth of glass shards. The server was apologetic and brought over paper towels so I could pat myself down as best I could. We moved to the adjoining table, and I sat there, soaked in beer. What we didn't realize at first was that the man who came over to oversee the cleanup was actually the manager. He never spoke to us directly--not even a "Sorry about that." After that, our original server all but vanished. Another server informally stepped in, but our actual server continued to take care of nearby tables while barely acknowledging us. She came by once to refill water. We all noticed the lack of follow-up, but we tried to carry on with the meal. Then, at the end, she returned and asked--rather triumphantly--if we'd like dessert. At that point, I just wanted to go. I was still soaked, and I could see little shiny specks on my clothes. I was honestly worried about glass slivers. We declined dessert and asked for the check. My better half was particularly curious to see what they'd do. The waitress made a point of letting us know the beer she spilled on me was taken off the bill. My better half let out a short laugh and asked to speak to a manager. That's when the earlier gentleman formally introduced himself. We explained what happened and why a comped beer didn't feel like an appropriate response. His answer? *"What do you want me to do?"* Our reply? *"Better than a free beer."* A few minutes later, he came back and said he'd taken some additional money off the check. They're hip, swanky, and serving the kind of food people want to eat right now. Do they *need* our money or patronage? Probably not. And that's exactly how it felt when we spoke with the manager.
