I felt rushed throughout my meal, and it seemed like staff were constantly standing nearby and closely watching minority customers while they were eating. Whether intentional or not, it created an unwelcoming atmosphere. The food was average at best, and the overall dining experience did not make up for it. I recently moved back to Grand Rapids and was looking forward to trying local restaurants again, but this establishment left a very negative impression. Went here for a weekend family lunch outing since we all were craving a little something different, and I couldn't. Be happier my wife recommended we try this place out because it really hit the spot. The servers were very kind and attentive and the prices were higher than some places but not out of this world and they offered nice amenities and better quality food in return so it really felt overall worth it. I'd be interested in checking out this place for dinnertime someday but as far as buffets go, this really did everything I needed it to and more. read more

If you choose to eat here, don't be surprised if you end up with food poisoning. This restaurant is extremely unhygienic and poorly managed. As someone who is ServSafe certified and has worked in the food industry, I can confidently say that their food safety and sanitation practices are unacceptable. The staff is unprofessional and hardly attentive. They only come by once to take your drink order and then disappear -- yet gratuity is automatically included in the bill. There's no effort to check on your table, ask how your food is, or offer any kind of service. I've been coming here since I was about 13, and it used to be good. I'm now 21, and my visit last week was awful. We arrived an hour before closing, but they started shutting down 30 minutes early while customers were still eating. They began sweeping, mopping, and wiping down counters -- all while food was still out -- flicking water near the buffet. It was completely unsanitary. When my mom went to get another plate, an employee called the manager, and they got into a small argument. The worker was trying to explain they were closing early, but we were never told that before being seated. They should have informed us before letting us dine. The food itself was cold, not being refilled, and poorly maintained. At the hibachi station, I noticed major cross-contamination -- spatulas and utensils were being used across different meats, including pork, which is a huge concern for me since I'm highly allergic. There was no sign that they take food allergies seriously or follow any safety standards. To make matters worse, the dessert section was disgusting. The fruit looked old and unrotated, and there were fruit flies covering the peaches. Clearly, temperature checks and proper storage are not being done. to top it off while not getting the full dining experience, we were charged $70 with gratuity included for three people, and we only were able to get one plate because they closed early and honestly after seeing fruit flies on the food, I was not going to try any thing else. This place has completely gone downhill and now feels like they're just cutting corners to save money. It's unsafe, unclean, and not worth your time or your health. My families first and last time coming here. Came in it was at 3:35 they told me I had to pay dinner price because dinner starts at 3:45 but when I was sitted it was 3:37. She tried to argue with me about the difference between lunch and dinner and I do not recommend I feel bad for the 5-10 people that just walked in and is going to get over charged. There is good and bad things to this restaurant. First off, the food. I can say there is many options for food at this place. Not only is there a buffet but there is also a grill, and I usually see the same person running the grill. The customer service for the grill is great, the guy who is usually there is friendly and patient. In terms of the other workers, they do their job and are helpful. The ambiance is alright. There is tons of seating, but sometimes, the place is dirty. Even the reusable plates and silverware look barely washed sometimes. Hot and sour is my favorite soup, and I thought they made it well. My friend really loved the buttered mixed seafood that came in these orange clam shells. Dumplings were also delicious. In terms of quality of food, it is good, but not great. The food were all flavorful but I felt like some meat was over cooked. The salmon were all definitely over cooked, and the sushi was alright. The sushi rice wasn't the softest. But I understand at this type of buffet, it's more like you're getting a lot of food for an amazing price. The bathroom was decently clean (which is important to me), and the dining environment was pretty clean. Overall, I would recommend trying this place. The Buffett was the biggest I have seen in the Kentwood area, every bite of food I ate was delicious, and I had quite the variety on my plate! They came around several times to remove our empty plates and refilled our drinks. The restaurant is large with lots of seating, booths and tables. 3 of us have eaten there twice recently [28th st GR, MI]. It was clean, big selection, all seemed fresh, they cleared out plates and filled out drinks as we needed it. They were all friendly and even took a couple photos for us. I had a steak off the grill, it was good also. I love their coconut shrimp. One friend is a cancer patient so can't eat much at all at a time. They allowed her to buy a take out container, fill it then eat out of it while the rest of us pigged out. My husband and I went there for dinner last night. The buffet had a lot of choices, and the sushi was fresh. The only complaint I have was that many items that should be hot, ie, the pork ribs, the chicken dishes, and others, were lukewarm, at best. The taste was good, but these food should be kept at a hot temperature. The staff was really nice, smiled, and were over all very pleasant. We go to sit down and this little older women who wielded here was frantically asking how many people we had. She told us this is for 8 people and wanted us to sit at a smaller table. This place gets flooded over the weekend (particularly Sundays) as everyone piles in for the self-serve seafood, American food, and Americanized Chinese food. The variety is large, complete with a sushi station, hibachi station, and a wide assortment of desserts in the center buffet area. The dining area stretches far beyond the reaches of the buffet, with at least three different areas of seating. TVs airing news channels are distributed throughout, and lots of families can be seen eating and enjoying their time together. My family and I were free to indulge in whatever foods we wanted; I helped myself to basic sautéed vegetables, shellfish, some sushi, and desserts, while everyone else ate a range of foods from garlic bread and macaroni and cheese to egg drop soup and chicken wings. My first plate was great, everything tasted fantastic. On my second go round, things became a hit or miss. The chicken teriyaki was flavorless and very disappointing, and the fruit was clearly not in season and tasted of nothing. The highlights were the prawns, green beans, and coffee cake. The service was good; water was refilled when drunk, and plates were taken away periodically.
