I haven't been to many Chinese buffets but this is one of the better ones I've been to. We went for lunch on a Wednesday and it was steadily busy but not crowded. It was clean, food was fresh and hot, and the service was pretty quick with drinks, the bill, and removing plates. They have tons of options which is great for a lunch buffet. Some of my faves were the lo mein, orange chicken, spring rolls, and fried doughnuts. I wish I tried other desserts because they looked so good but I was way too full! They also have an ice cream case full of flavors of hard scoop ice cream. The sushi was pretty good quality, I only tried "cooked" rolls. Another great experience. This time we brought Mom for lunch. This is her favorite place to go when we visit. This place was busy at lunch. Lots working folks coming in for a great hot meal. The salad bar items were super fresh with a great crunch. The ranch dressing was tasty. I tried several of their chicken dishes and all were hot and flavorful. Went here on a recommendation and it was definitely a strong one because for this price this place was excellent. The staff were super attentive and kind, the food was kept hot and everything seemed to rotate pretty frequently. While there was some traditional fare, they also had excellent specialty items like crab and crawfish and I can confirm we all left a little beyond full but also beyond satisfied and I will surely be stopping in again in the future. read more

It's your standard buffet but the food is above what you might expect which is probably mediocre. Everything I tried was tasty except for 2 things I didn't personally like, and the warm food was warm. Everything was stocked promptly even though it was busy. My favorite things I ate while here were orange chicken, bourbon chicken, chicken on a stick, buffalo chicken wings, coconut chicken, fried rice, egg rolls, sushi, dumplings, pepper steak, pepper chicken, okay.... I'll stop because I didn't have anything that wasn't good. Some Chinese buffets taste the same as all the others. This is an exception! The server was exceptional, he was pretty attentive and removed dishes almost immediately after we were finished, which gave us more room on the table. The crawfish was actually very decent and not overcooked like it usually is at a buffet. My daughter liked the fried rice, lo mein, and the orange chicken. I also enjoyed the bottle neck clams. Despite being a buffet -- where food is prepared in large quantities -- everything tasted super fresh as if we had just ordered the dish only for ourselves. The meats are tender and not dried out. The vegetables have a wonderful "snap" and the hot and sour soup is the spiciest (and yummiest) I've had anywhere. If you like Chinese food/sushi/hibachi buffets, this is the place to go. Stopped in tonight with Mom. Based on the reviews they were the best rated buffet in the area and they did not disappoint! All of the food I tried had great flavor, more so than other buffet food that I have had elsewhere. Add in the sushi and the hibachi grill and this place was over the top. Some of the buffet items that I had such as the bacon wrapped chicken, hibachi chicken and others were more "hi end" items that you don't see at other places. The worst buffet in the Grand Rapids area. We arrived at 7p and it closes at 9p well they didn't refill any of the food. Everything that was left was cold or either gone literally scrapping the pans. Everything was horrible. Will never return!!!! read more

I cannot believe all these high rated reviews of this restaurant. I have never had worse food. The coconut shrimp had some disgusting sauce that looked like placenta, so gross. The fried rice was so sticky you could barely get it separated from the buffet to your plate. The seafood casserole, well I don't even know what to say about that disgusting dish. This buffet was incredible! The food was fresh, the sushi was what you'd expect with exception that there were more choices and good choices. The salad was fresh and crisp. Would have liked to have more dressing options but I found one I liked. The poached salmon was great and had good flavor. The black pepper chicken was "off the menu" delicious! Had lunch here today. I'm a north sider and I can tell you that this restaurant is better than any on the north side. I only know of 4 Asian buffets in GR and the two on Alpine; Empire and Supreme Hibachi Buffet are both poor, rated a '2' in overall quality, not worth a repeat visit. The other is Fuji Buffet on east 28th St. and I would rate it a '3', pretty decent buffet, but just average overall. The fare at Tokyo Buffet is better all around. I couldn't try everything, but did sample a lot and what I did was, as Chinese buffets go, better than average. The only thing I had that I thought was not as good as Fuji were the crab rangoons. Everything else was superior, including the variety and types of offerings, freshness, presentation, service, cleanliness, and most important, taste. Topped it all off with a bowl of hard serve ice cream and it made for a really nice experience. It's a bit of a drive from the other side of town, but worth it! read more

Went to their soft opening today and needless to say it's super nice inside. Super clean. The food was hot and fresh and I'm excited to come back once their hibachi grill is up and running. The hibachi here is SO good! I'm obsessed and can't wait to go back again just for that. I honestly couldn't say much about the actual buffet because I mostly only got stuff from the hibachi bar other than fried rice. It was our first time here. And the prices for lunch buffet Monday - Saturday were such a good deal. Only downside was that we had to flag down our server to receive our check when we were ready to leave because he just wouldn't stop at our table anymore for some reason. We wanted to get Chinese for dinner and decided to try Tokyo Buffet & Grill. Our review is below. Environment: Clean and modern. Only complaint would be the stacks of plates being randomly stacked by the food instead of in their holders. A few were dirty and the stacks seemed to be handled by a number of diners. Service: The waiter took away dirty plates quickly and made sure our drinks were full. However, most of the staff did not speak to us except to ask our drink order and to tell us our bill amount. Food: This is where I was unfortunately underwhelmed. At the buffet, the selection of food isn't great for having 4 sections. One is entirely desserts which almost all looked dry and unappetizing. Another is seafood, which I was excited about. Unfortunately, the crab was so over cooked that there was zero meat inside any of it. The pepper shrimp was the only thing I would get again from that section. The other two sections were a mixture of different dishes. Most were okay but all were not hot enough, lukewarm at best. The sushi bar had about 5 different rolls, all of which looked like they had been sitting there far too long. My boyfriend tried a piece and didn't even eat the whole thing, as he said it did not taste fresh. The one redeeming quality of the food was the hibachi bar! The selection of food looked fresh and was kept cold. It was then prepared by the cook who was very kind. This was the best buffet I have ever been too. They not only had some of the best authentic Chinese food but they also had so many different and flavorful options that you good go with. The service was so amazing, we got there close to the closing time and they still had all of the food stocked and fresh, I could not be more impressed. I cannot wait to go back to get some more. Unfortunately I got filled up quicker than I would have liked so I wasn't able to keep eating and trying all the different food. 40$ for cold LUNCH food for two. Do not recommend nor will I be back. I used to come here for the cheap lunch but 2pm and getting charged for dinner is garbage. Literally everything was meh and I was ok with it for the 10$ it usually is but 40$ just because it's Sunday is no excuse to sell the same stuff for more especially if you can't keep it warm or can't afford to replace it.
