I hate it when a beloved restaurant starts going downhill, and that seems to be the case at Fuji Grill. We stopped here Tuesday night and, as we usually do, opted out of the hibachi and sat at a regular table to order appetizers, rolls and sushi. The waitress took our order, and left to chat with the other staff members for about 5 minutes. She returned to ask us what we wanted and when we told her that we had already ordered she said "Oh yes...that's right!" and headed off to send it to the kitchen. Our appetizers arrived but two of them were missing the dipping sauce. I asked waitress "Aren't these supposed to have dipping sauces?" and she said "I don't know...are they?" After I reassured her that they certainly were, she returned to the kitchen to get them. So...my roll and sushi arrive from the kitchen. As I pick up my first piece of sushi I notice that it's very warm. The plate that everything was on was very hot, as if it came right out of the dishwasher. I expect my sushi to be around room temperature, but the plate made everything too warm to enjoy. I mentioned this to the waitress, but she shrugged, said "okay" and just walked away. Finally, the atmosphere...we know this place can be loud with all the celebrating that's usually going on around the hibachis, but they had their music really cranked up. Nothing helps a poor dining experience get even worse than screaming guitar solos at high volume. There's another Japanese place down the street that we also regularly visit. We used to alternate between Fuji and that place, but last night we agreed that from now on we'll go to Fuji only when we wanted to do the hibachi with a bunch of friends and we'll stick to the other place for our true Japanese cravings. read more

I used to go out to eat here all the time. whenever I didn't know what I wanted to eat...fuji grill. But I got some sushi from there today and all i can say is i can definitely tell they're letting white people work in the kitchen now because the hand rolls fall apart soooooo bad. I work in Orchard Park, and there aren't really a lot of dining options for the lunchtime crowd that are quick, which aren't fast food. This location fills the void. A few rolls and a soup won't break the bank and the service is good enough, you can be in and out and back in your office in under an hour. read more

About three years ago I visited this location and ordered the Seafood Udon Soup. I loved it! I was reminded if my favorite Japanese place in Scottsdale AZ. This time it was not the same, the broth was a white color and tasted like chicken stock. Normally its a brownish color from the soy sauce added to it. I ended up taking my order takeout and I never got the Shichimi Togarashi (7 spice Japanese pepper seasoning). I love my spicy food and consider the perfect finishing touch. I feel they put too much teriyaki sauce on the chicken so it was very saucy on my plate. Not a bad place. Most of my friends ordered sushi and said they liked it a lot. Fugi Grill on maple is way better than this location. I don't know why they had a country western them in a Japanese restaurant? The only good thing about our meal was the angry birds, giving it the 1 star rating. The hibachi was very disappointing. We will not be back to this location ever again. The veggie tempura, seaweed salad, regular salad, and mushroom soup were perfectly acceptable. I was however disappointed with the hibachi meal. I did not sit at a hibachi table, but in a regular booth. For my taste there was way too much sauce, the veggies were really soft and soggy, and the chicken was kind of gummy/slimy. I think what happens is the chicken is coated with corn starch before going in the sauce which is also sticky and I think maybe creates like a tacky glue coating. I feel like it just wasn't worth the $16 per plate :\. Anyway like I said, not my taste, but it was clean and the staff were really friendly and service was fine. read more

One of my favorite places to eat Hibachi... All fresh ingredients and the cooks will always bring a smile to your face no matter how many times you have seen it. The Lunch express is the best bang for the buck anywhere in WNY for lunch. Your choice of a protein with fried rice and veggies all cooked in front of u with a garden salad $6.99. We go to Fuji Grill in Amherst all the time, but needed to head to the Southtowns, so thought we'd try it. I'd called ahead to ask about the noise level, which they said was not too loud....we couldn't believe how loud the noise level was when we got there. They did turn off the stereo for us and absolutely could not have been more accommodating then they were. The rolls were fresh and delicious, the sake was delicious and our waitress was very good. Kudos to the manager Tony--he's doing a great job and really knows how to take care of his customers.! read more

I came here a couple weeks ago with friends for my first night in Hamburg. When I move here I'll have to come here a lot. The service is quick and friendly, the atmosphere is comfortable, and they have simple but delicious vegetarian sushi. It would never occur to me to put asparagus in a sushi roll but I loved it along with the avocado roll. read more

The first few times we went here, it was pretty good. We enjoyed the food and the kids night on Mondays with our family. But the last two times have been a terrible experience for me. We had the same chef both times and he is a misogynist or something. They always go around the table and squirt sake in everyone's mouth. He offers sake to all the men at the table and completely ignores the women. He did each time, so I finally said something and he looked at me like he was confused. I told him 3 times I wanted sake too, so finally he gave me some. But the next time passed me and the other women up again. So I decided to let that go...until he dropped a few pieces of lobster in my soup and just pointed to it and told me to grab it. No apology. He then did the same thing with my vegetables-- this time dropping them in my water during the transfer. No apology. I went to complain and the manager and waitress seemed shocked but offered no apology or retribution. read more

Excited to celebrate a relative's birthday we were soon disappointed by many parts of our experience. By just walking in you could tell that this place needed a good cleaning - a mop and bucket could go a long way. We made online reservations just to be informed that part of the website was not functional. Additionally they let us know that they had a sign posted in the restaurant letting us know the website is not working. Not really helpful to see the sign when you arrive. After a long wait to be seated it was easy to notice that we were being placed in a unused area of the restaurant - one that also doubles as a storage room. We quickly realized that our chef was new to the job as he was being coached by the chef behind him. All in all that part was not too bad. The food however was very good. From the salad to the entree our meals were delicious. It's just too bad the rest of our experience was so bad. read more

Just went to Fuji Grill for the first time. We had a large party and it was fantastic!!! We had the hibachi, Joe was our chef and he was wonderful, entertaining and the food was great. This is a unique place to come with a group of friends or family for an entertaining dining experience. The chef's at Fuji Grill really put on a show. From the moment they start cooking, they are showing up their juggling skills with the kitchen utensils, and then transitioning to the typical onion-fire "trick". The menu is pretty large and offers various choices for everyone you are dining with. I have never tried their sushi rolls, although they look delicious and others I have dined with have enjoyed them. I always opt for the chicken and steak hibachi option, which is $23 (a person - includes small salad and soup) and comes with your choice of fried rice or noodles and veggies. Last time I upgraded to filet for $1 extra ($24 total). They have multiple combo options for hibachi entrées: Chicken & steak, steak & sushi, steak & scallops, steak & salmon; the list goes on and on. They all range from $20-24. You can upgrade to options with lobster, which will put you around $26-29. My only complaint is that you receive each item separately. This means you have to eat your rice separate from your meat, and then both of those separate from your veggies. Unless, you keep everything on your plate until the final serving, but then your food is cold. If you have a large group of friends, and you are looking for a unique outing that will allow everyone to sit and be together, this is a great option. read more

I came for lunch with my sister-in-law, who had never had sushi before, but had a gift certificate so we decided to give it a try. My local favorite is Seabar, and while this is not Seabar, it was decent, fresh, and reasonably priced. It was fairly busy for a weekday afternoon but we were seated immediately. They have some hibachi tables, as well, you know, where the chefs chop and entertain on a hot surface while you sit with strangers eat and laugh? Not for us. They were very noisy. But if you like that, it looked fun. The lunch menu was quite varied but we opted for one of the chef's choices. It was a good and generous combination of sushi and sashimi chosen by the chef that day. They started us off with a very nice miso soup and some green tea. The service was good and we spent less than $25 including tip! Not bad for sushi in the suburbs for lunch. read more

All good food, the entertainment is quite good as well only its the same every time as you might expect so can get old if you go there for that more than once in a while. I love Fuji! The atmosphere is great and I love the sushi. They also have very great prices lunch specials. You can get soup, sushi and a roll of California for 8 dollars! If you order take-out, be prepared to wait a VERY long time. Every time I have ordered food to be picked up, whether it's a week day or on the weekend, they tell me it will be ready in 20 minutes, and then I get to the restaurant and have to wait AT LEAST an additional 20 minutes. The last time was the best though...an additional 40 minutes I waited for my food! I think they start making the food after I arrive to pick it up, it is absolutely ridiculous. I have learned my lesson finally. The food is super good. But DO NOT order take-out. read more

Worst experience I have ever had at this restaurant. There was some confusion with a takeout order. Was hung up on when called to clarify. Brought food back to figure out issue and the snotty girl at the register did her best to make us feel stupid. Which she then followed with a very sarcastic "have a nice day" as we were leaving. I came here to celebrate a friend's birthday. I wouldn't have chosen the spot because I feel as though "you've been to one hibachi, you've been to them all." But, we had a blast! Our chef was so entertaining. With us all being in out twenties, he made his show a little more risque than I have ever seen. It was truly entertaining. We all got the sake shots sprayed in our mouth and flying zucchini appetizers. He would continue to throw them in the air until we all caught one in our mouth. The food was delicious. I was super excited that they had mochi ball ice cream for dessert - a favorite of mine! The only downside was they rushed us out. Before we even were served dessert, they were bringing the place settings over for the next people. As soon as I took my last bite of dessert, they asked us to leave and hang by the bar instead. I understand that the hibachi tables are a form of entertainment not just a dinner table - but the rush was very unflattering. If we didn't have such a fun time, I would have complained. read more

Myself & my boyfriend had a great time, my 1st time there, however we were sat with 2 couples. Both African American couples. 1 of the women was there to celebrate her birthday. As our cook started the "show", we watched him poorly throw many veggies at them. 1 man in particular. The cook went as far as side tossing with a hard swing to the poor mans face. All 4 took it in stride I will say, however it disgusted me. The cook was extremely over zealous with the saki shots to all 6 of us however when I'd watch him shoot their saki shots, it looked as tho he was not shooting for their mouthes. He made both men & 1 of the women foam & almost choke bc of the amount of saki shot in their mouths after shaking their hand to stop. However when either I or my boyfriend shook 1 of our hands to stop, the cook would. To whomever you were at that table celebrating your birthday- I am truly sorry if your evening was in any way ruined by ignorance as I felt it was and I wish you the happiest of birthdays!
