I WOULDNT recommend for ramen or udon fans. My udon as you see is barely touched. The broth had raw peppers and ruined the broth completely and it was cloudy. I'm not used to milky looking udon so I was already skeptical however I took a chance and wish I didn't then they only offered to discount or replace the item after the udon I just wanted to leave ........ My husband and I live nearby, and have heard great things about Fuji Mountain Steakhouse from colleagues and neighbours. Last Sunday we finally decided to go for their hibachi, and see for ourselves. We didn't have a reservation, but once we confirmed we were there for the dinner hibachi, we were taken to a hibachi table with two other couples, and our orders were taken & the fun began!! Overall, we really enjoyed the entire hibachi experience, both with the skills and friendly personality of the chef, and also with the quality of the proteins that we ordered as well as their portion sizes. I decided to go for their Scorpion Bowl cocktail , which was colossal and seemed like a lot of fun. Overall we had a great experience and will definitely be back! We used to be regulars for their happy hour ... pre-pandemic. This visit (Wed., 8/14/24) was for a birthday dinner for our 8 y.o. grandson. Perfect choice for the 10 and under crowd. In my opinion, the chef's performance was lack luster. *Yawn* Not much else has changed. Same decor. *Yawn* The appetizer's ... thumbs DOWN. The shumai presented well but was more dumpling than shrimp. The salt and pepper shrimp had NO salt (or pepper). The chicken livers and fried oysters ... just as bland. The service was ... I don't know ... maybe he was new. No complaints from those who ordered sushi but you have to work hard to mess up tempura and a California roll so I am not confident with their assessment. Came here for a solo dinner and sat at the bar. The bartender was friendly and made great conversation while I waited. The steak came out perfect hot, juicy, and with a great crust. The hibachi steak comes with steak, vegetables, rice, and noodles. The staff was really accommodating if you asked for your meat cut smaller they did it. If you asked for extra anything... they gave it. If you said you were allergic or didn't want something, they accommodated that, too. My experience at Fuji mountain was better than I expected in regards to the taste of the food. The reason I gave a 3 has nothing to do with the food, but the atmosphere. First, the parking is fairly simple as it is a part of a shopping center. You will notice that the sign is not fully lit. They need to change the light bulbs in it. Once inside, I stood there for about 2 minutes without being greeted. Once I was finally greeted, she assumed I was doing pick up. I think that is a popular choice. I decided to dine-in for Hibachi. So the wait was about 10 minutes to wait for a chef and table. While waiting, I went to the restroom. What a mistake!! It was completely disgusting- unflushed toilets, toilet paper all on the floor, barely any soap. You name it that's how that bathroom looked. It was a complete turn off and I almost decided not to eat there, but I was waiting for the other member of my party. After I got over that and we were finally seated, the experience improved. The service was quick. She took our orders fast and then came out with salads and soup. Both were delicious. I have a shellfish allergy, so I appreciate the option for chicken livers as an appetizer as well as the fact that they cooked my chicken before cooking any shrimp on the table. The chef was comical and gave us a show, even though it was the end of the night. He season the food well and gave us large portions. They give you noodles and fried rice as well as plenty of veggies!! Overall, I had to ding this place due to the atmosphere. It is not the best looking or most cleanly. However, I noticed many locals at the bar, so the drinks must be good and they had plenty of food options. You might want to stick to carry out if you choose to done at this establishment. The problem was with the CHECK. We had only 2 people on our check, but the restaurant AUTOMATICALLY charged 18% gratuity. I think that should be illegal!! The chicken teriyaki roll was top tier and the gyoza. The fried chicken wings were alright! Just needed some hot sauce and more seasoning. It helped me forget about the mediocre food. I wanted to try something new and tried chicken teriyaki sushi roll, it was disgusting. Hear me when I say EXCELLENT Customer Service is MANDATORY, especially when your gratuity is added to the price of your bill; starting at 1 diner. {More to come.} My friend and I stopped here for lunch because she had a hankering for sushi. When we realized the error he was gone and we decided to just remain where we were due to what happened next... Our waitress comes over and drops 2 laminated Lunch Special menus and 1 bound menu. I asked for another and was told there weren't anymore. "Huh?!", now I'm left perplexed. This is a restaurant in the middle of lunch with maybe 45% of the tables filled and you only have one menu?! Unbelievable so my friend asks. She looks at her and looks away and remains at her post. Pro Tip: STAFF, Never assume customers want the SPECIAL. Five minutes later my friend asks again. This time she speaks in another language and sounds somewhat annoyed(Really!?! It's a MENU)and this is a part of your occupation. After another 5 minutes we were granted a second menu. The young woman then asks can she take our order. Seriously?! Two minutes later she asks if we're ready, "Uhhhhhh no", we JUST received our "Full Menus" after attempting to share one. Returning 5 minutes after that, she asks for our Hibachi order. We placed an appetizer order for calamari. This seemed to upset her. I'm assuming, after conferring with my friend, that she's annoyed at the fact were ordering from the Main Menu and we're seated at a grill. We never asked for this seating and instead somehow correcting the issue and making us feel welcomed, we were given icy looks. Tact alluded this waitress. I tried to ask her a question and was ignored. She walked away without responding twice. 15 minutes after that she returned for our order. The Hibachi Chef was EXCELLENT. He was our saving grace or we would NOT have eaten. He was the polar opposite of his co-worker. We found him to be entertaining and fun. We decided to order from the Hibachi Menu because it seemed like the only way to create a better experience for ourselves. I ordered the shrimp and scallops. My friend ordered salmon and shrimp. The proteins and vegetables were very good. Excellent flavor and execution. Our Chef had to call our waitress on 3 separate occasions for us. Twice I asked for condiments that never appeared but I was told she was going to gat it. My friend addressed her after that and we placed our Sushi order. Now we're about 25 minutes in and we're told our Sushi would be out in 10 minutes. 25 minutes later, still no Sushi, condiments or napkins. Seriously... Then she asks if we'd like our "...Sushi to go"? Well I guess so now that we're full from the rice, lo mein, mixed vegetables and Seafood that was forced upon us by this woman's behavior. "Yes. And the check as well please?" No refills. No food without the chef. The sad part is we were seated with 3 other people, 2 of which had never dined there previously. We 5 were all treated to aloof, rude and disrespectful behaviour by our waitress. The 5 of us asked for carryout containers for the remainder of our food. My friend and I asked twice. The young lady sitting across from us asked along with our second attempt. We got ours, she and her father did not! It took the last 3 people to ask 3 more times before getting the requested items. All the while we're waiting on our check. 10 extra minutes we wait for her to return. Finally she does and we see why the marginal service. The 15% tip is placed on your bill!!!! We also ordered the crazy Krab gyoza and the habachi noodles with shrimp. The sushi was so bad, I sampled one of each and was done. I've stopped eating in store for this reason because I figured getting the food to go would be easier. The boss of this restaurant deliberately refuses to pay the remaining $421 of my base salary and even said, "If you want to play, I'll play with you." Before starting work at this Japanese restaurant, we agreed on a monthly base salary of 5500. On the 27th, I informed the boss in advance that I was resigning and offered to leave after they found a replacement. Shortly after, she told me to leave after finishing work the next day. When it came time to settle my wages, she claimed that because I didn't work the full month, I wasn't entitled to the base salary. After much negotiation, she only gave me 600, withholding the remaining $421, and said that a month was calculated as 27 days. As I was leaving, she said, "If you're unhappy, you can expose me on 168. If you want to play, I'll play with you." I worked tirelessly but was still denied my money. Although my shift ended at 9:30 PM, I didn't get back to the dorm until after 11 PM every day, with no lunch break and no phone usage allowed! The meals provided were terrible, and even cooking an extra egg was not allowed. The boss dismissively said, "Aren't all restaurant meals like this?" There was a ton of sidework, and I had to help with packaging. The dorm was in the basement with terrible conditions, no signal, and even snakes! Although there was a busser, I still had to clear tables and had busser fees deducted from my pay. The tips were not transparent, calculated solely by the boss or her son, with the amounts they decided. Tips were given out every three days. When my previous partner left, the tip was $150; mine was $190, but $10 per person was deducted for garbage fees. This is a typical exploitative black shop. Initially, I didn't want to continue after three days, but the boss convinced me by adding $200, claiming the work was easy. For the sake of the base salary, I gritted my teeth and worked for 23 days. Only later did I learn that I wasn't the only one being exploited with withheld base pay. The staff turnover was high, with a new server every few days. Even though she claimed she wasn't afraid of being exposed, I still want to warn everyone about this terrible place. I was surprised at this hidden gem sitting right in Marlow Heights Shopping Center. Its exterior belies the charm and uncanny theatrics of the Japanese chefs preparing the food with a flare right before our eyes. The quantities were more than ample - I carted away the next day's dinner. They were professional and kind to our group of 12 as we were seated around the rectangular stove tops. One person asked for a change in the prep for her dish since she was allergic to peanuts (they had inquired about allergies) and she did not want her food sauteed with soy sauce. They made the changes with a smile. Everyone raved about the food - some had the hibachi, others fried dishes-but the remarks were all favorable. The quantities amazing and pricing excellent --and quality above par. I recommend this establishment and I will return again -- perhaps trying some of the exotic mixed drinks next time. read more
