This is my forever favorite Japanese sushi restaurant. I am been here since open till now, once or twice a week. The quality and atmosphere are always the same as 1st time experience. I had a tour to Japan last March, I traveled from Osaka to Tokyo. I was impressed that the traditional sushi section here in this restaurant compared to Japan is not different. Far from the original, they have their own special rolls which are satisfied other style of appetite. I've been telling that the Japanese never put sauce or anything other than fish in their maki. However, the non-Japanese create sauce and ingredients to make maki more favor. As more as you know about the history of Japanese sushi, the more you respect the head chef here. I am been trying a lot of Japanese sushi restaurant and find myself this place. I strongly recommended Poki salad, Toro on the rock, Sashimi Sampler and salmon belly fusion nigiri. Came in on a Monday around 6:30 PM with a party of five and were seated immediately. We ordered the Lion King Roll, Dragon Roll, Mango Crunch Roll, and the Sashimi Special. Unfortunately, the sashimi was by far the worst I've ever been served at a restaurant. The fish appeared discolored, old, and slimy. When we asked our server what types of fish were included, we were told tori, salmon, albacore, yet the almost every piece (minus the salmon) had a brownish-gray appearance that was extremely unappetizing. I'm not sure if we happened to receive the last of their inventory for the week, but serving fish in that condition at full price ($60) is kind of crazy. Some of the sashimi looked comparable to raw pork that had been sitting out, which was honestly concerning. The sushi rolls were also disappointing. They were very average, with flavors and quality that reminded me of grocery store sushi. Nothing stood out or justified the price point. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience. I was especially let down because this restaurant came highly recommended by a family member who has dined here multiple times and always had positive experiences. To make matters worse, I developed stomach discomfort within about 15 minutes of leaving the restaurant. Our favorite was the Goku Special (10/10) since the crunchy outer layer matched perfectly with the fish flavor inside the roll. This is a pretty middle-of-the-road sushi spot; its menu offers pretty standard sushi restaurant fare, including some rice plate and udon options alongside the usual appetizers, nigiri, sashimi, and rolls. The decor is a bit trite, but it's well lit and clean. The parking lot was crowded, but the restaurant itself wasn't overly busy, so we were seated immediately. The service was good--the servers were very friendly and attentive, and our food came out pretty quickly after we ordered as well. We ordered two of the sashimi sampler alongside the hamachi lover roll. I liked the roll! The ratio of fish, rice, and avocado were great. The sashimi sampler, however, was a little disappointing. The presentation was a little awkward--long, thin cuts of fish folded up into little bowls and scattered with greens. 4 of the 6 pieces were seared, which I have never expected when ordering sashimi. The pricing was a little on the higher end of normal, and, while the food was decent, it doesn't outdo any of the other local sushi spots that I have visited in the area. The roll was ~$17 and the sashimi sampler nearly $18. Overall, I think Goku Sushi is a decent spot. If I'm nearby and craving sushi, it is definitely in the running, even if it isn't my first choice. We were in the area and wanted to try a new restaurant. Found this place less than a mile from where we were at. So glad we found it! Goku Sushi opened up in our hometown of Morgan Hill and just opened up this new location in South San Jose. Ambiance was inviting and friendly with good decor. Servers were all friendly and refilled our waters without being asked. The rolls were reasonably priced considering we frequent a lot of sushi restaurants not just in the Bay Area but also out of state. The Baked Rolls were $13.95, which is way less expensive than other sushi restaurants and the flavors were very delicious. Our son ordered the Lion King with baked salmon and I ordered Bay Island with baked scallops. We all agreed that the Bay Island was the bomb! The Unagi Avocado roll & Warrior Roll was also tasty. 2/21/2026 same w friends Welcomed and seated. A corner shop w plenty of seating. Asked the server if the lunch menu set was still an option as it was just one min past the promo. They were very accommodating and allowed it. I got the sushi combo and shishito pepper as an appetizer. The sushi combo came w a miso soup, rice, salad, 4 piece California roll, two gyoza, and 5 nigiri. All the sushi I ate were delicious. The shishito was overcooked so it was kinda rubbery. Went to this place on a week day night with my girlfriend and had a great time. The owner is so sweet and treats every customer with care. The food is super good and super affordable! I really enjoyed having the rolls and I would definitely recommend the Philadelphia roll it was my favorite. The owner and her daughter was so sweet and gave us gyoza for free. We got the bento box, miss Saigon, Mango roll, and lion king. Nothing special about each roll, the Mango roll was good, mangos were fresh. Ms Saigon was our least favorite. Something about sweet and sour chili on a roll was a bad idea. Ordered it because my dad likes spring mix and salads, but the spring mix we overwhelming the fish. Biggest thing was an issue of ordering the bento box, normally you think minimum was 2 items per bento. So I ordered the chicken and salmon, however the first bento came out with just chicken and I asked where was the salmon. Then they informed me a second whole bento box was coming and I wanted to cancel it because I did not way to pay for two bento box. It was my mistake for not reading up top of the description, but either way as a customer you would hope they would be ok with it. I came here end of December for my friend's birthday. She chose this place, so we decided to give it a try. We went on a weekday, so there wasn't a lot of customers when we arrived. We weren't too hungry so we decided to order and share food. We got the lion king, mango crunch, a cream cheese roll, house salad, raw oysters and beer. Our favorite rolls here ended up being the mango crunch and the lion king roll. The lion king roll is baked and is flavorful. It was comparable to cha cha sushi's for us. The mango crunch was another favorite because my boyfriend and friend said they could valley taste the mango in there unlike when we go to other sushi restaurants. My friend and I enjoyed the raw oysters, but my boyfriend didn't like it because he said he could taste the sea water from it. I ended up eating his since I couldn't taste what he was tasting haha. Surprisingly, I really enjoyed the sushi here. I'll be back again when I'm craving sushi to try the other food items on the menu. Service was friendly making our meal more enjoyable. The salmon belly nigiri looked promising but the fish was super slimy and had a weird after taste. The rice in each dish tasted bad. When we ordered the sushi was made right away, you can see the chef putting together these specialty rolls. We ordered gyoza but it looked too good not to try it right away (comes with 6 not 3)! Picked the place for the name and the ratings compared to others in the area with 3.5 stars. Ordered a chicken teriyaki bento online, totaling me $17.99 after tax. The wait was minimum 35min from the time of ordering. Now, I've never had a bad bento from any joint, but I guess today was that day. I came in 10minutes before my order was due just to check in on it, but it was already ready in the window. My food was not hot and I was already skeptical. By the time I got back to the office from the 6min drive, all of the food was no longer warm. I never received a notification that my food was ready and have no clue as to how long it had been sitting. But look, if the taste was still good, I can look past it. The amount of chicken was very measly and had near no color. It was incredibly dry, easily the worst chicken I've had from over 20 years of eating chicken teriyaki bentos. It may have been the ONLY bad one I've ever had, because how do you mess that part up?? The gyoza was cold and the 4pc California roll was small compared to bentos in other eateries and tasted way too sharp. The miso soup actually tasted nice, but they didn't even fill it up that much. I think I've only experienced one other time where the place skimped on the miso soup and that place is closed now. Even the dressing for the salad they filled the container very little. It was a wild experience to be honest. It was one bad note or component after another, I had to just laugh at the situation. I'd say skip this place and order elsewhere. You can better quality at a better price point. No price can make up for such poor quality food. Even those 3-star places were better than this one. Ate here for a family birthday celebration this past weekend. What we got: Hamachi Lover roll (2/5) -- The hamachi was fine, but overall way too acidic. I think the vinaigrette they serve the roll on top of soaks into the rice and a lot of us did not like the flavor Goku roll (4/5) -- overall good flavors and textures but sometimes, too much of the sauce depending on the piece you get. Sauce reminded me of thousand island dressing Miss Saigon roll (2/5) -- felt more like eating salad and there was an overwhelming amount of dressing that made it hard to appreciate any of the fish Casanova roll (4/5) -- I have never seen a roll like this before and enjoy the creativity. The greens that garnish the roll were unnecessary for me and made it kind of bitter but the rest of the components went well together Warriors roll (4/5) -- standard Warriors roll, I enjoyed it. Service was pretty quick and our food came out at decent time. I've been working near blossom hill for 4 years and I just now discovered this sushi spot. The lunch specials are a super good deal here. 2x 6-8 piece rolls for $13 or 3x 6-8 piece rolls for $18. Usually I avoid eating too much sushi because it gets expensive, but this place is a great price! The fish itself is fresh and I love the variety you can choose from (12-15 different types of rolls for the lunch special). Service is pretty quick here and it doesn't get too busy which is surprising. I haven't had a wait coming here between 12-1:30 pm with groups of 3-6 so far. Had a great time visiting this place with a friend on a Saturday afternoon around 2:30 pm. It's a new restaurant that replaced the burger place. There's lots of parking available. There weren't many people dining but it's a good place that started its roots in Morgan Hill. It's got a great interior with nice dining tables and a colorful mural. They also have candy in front for the kids! They have an expansive menu from sashimi, tasty appetizer and hot foods from the bar, and dessert as well! My friend and I ordered their special rolls since we missed their daily lunch special. It runs from 11 am - 2:30 pm on a daily basis. I ordered their mango crunch roll, and it was great.
