Everything seems to close early in San Jose, so the fact that this place is open until midnight is a major plus! There's a lot of people that get DoorDash or food takeout. A couple particular nights my boyfriend and I came here. We are in the midst of moving, so it's an easy dinner for us. Ambience is interesting with a bunch of tables and trees in the middle of the seating area to separate one table from another. There's also some booths along the backside of the wall and lounge/bar area. It was all women's staff the first time we came around 11 PM and they really didn't seem to want to take our order. My boyfriend had to flag down a girl so we could actually order once we were seated, then as he got his chicken teriyaki it was literally grilled chicken with a side of teriyaki. Very odd set up!! He said the meat tasted dry, so he actually had to put lemon on it to give it some flavor and he didn't favor for the teriyaki sauce itself. The three times we've been there, we decided to stick with sushi, and that was all made and prepared properly. I really like the fact they're open so late, but their mannerisms with such a young Staff it was quite alarming. So I would say four stars for the food and being open lovely, but only three stars for the bad service or lack of compassion for their customers. read more

I've always driven past this place and wondered what it was like. We arrived a little past 6pm on a Sunday and were seated right away. Ordered 2 drinks, an appetizer of gyoza, Sashimi Moriawase and beef bulgogi. My husband loved the 18pc Sashimi Moriawase and the presentation was nice. Service was okay. Stopped by for a late lunch with a group of ~8. Overall the space is somewhat random but decent, and we were seated and served well and promptly. The menu seems to be on the pricier side than what I expected, but at least our portions were decent. I think quality wise food was enjoyable, but nothing that was wow-ing personally. We ordered various rolls (exotic and regular) and I got the tempura entree, which was generously portioned, but not necessarily up to what I expected given the prices here. This has become one of my favorite spots solely due to the fact that they have spicy tuna crispy rice. It's delicious and I get it every time I come here. It's crispy on the outside, soft rice on the inside, with flavorful spicy tuna and sauce drizzled on top. I highly recommend trying this! They have a great selection of rolls as well as apps. Went on a Saturday late night around 10.30 pm. The restaurant has its own parking lot and one block away from the bustling Santana row area. Got a seat right away. Got the miso soup which was very comforting. Also got a few rolls- spicy lion king- this was a baked one and really yum. The golden spicy was also a cooked roll and was a hit on our table. The victoria secret roll was decent also. Nothing spectacular. However, for an okay sushi spot, the prices are on the higher side. We got the kenji tempura toll, spicy tuna roll, yellowtail roll and the victoria secret roll. Our friends ordered an assortment of nigiri and Philadelphia roll. They enjoyed their sushi. I liked the chicken karage a lot. It came with mayonnaise. We ordered two of those. The miso soup was very good too. It wasn't watered down at all. It's minutes walk to Santana Row. Try it this spot for sushi and especially their chicken karagge. It's Christmas time so the restaurant was beautifully decorated for Christmas. I can't say I am much for Sushi, but Kenji Sushi I have to give you five stars since you had an entire menu page devoted to vegetarian food. I ordered the Veggie Caterpillar Roll with asparagus, tempura, and cucumber. It was really yummy for being veggie and the sauce it came with was excellent. Moderately priced, this restaurant is bustling with tables turning over quickly. It's good to see this place so busy which usually means the food is fresh. The waitstaff was kind and our order came out without a long wait. I couldn't use chop sticks so the waitstaff gave me a fork. I tried my dates food which was real sushi, it was tasty, but I couldn't eat much of it. I did accidentally take a big bit of wasabi sauce which I wasn't prepared for. This is entirely my fault, but if you aren't familiar with the sauces and a sushi newbie beware the green sauce. You don't need much! The only thing I would warn you about is the parking. The lot is small, and the parking goes fast. It's a bit difficult to maneuver out of the restaurant if all the parking is taken, but it is possible to back up if you turn around at the entrance. read more

For nearly $80 after the automatic service charge, I expected a much better overall experience. What disappointed me the most was the service. Our table was never checked on after our food was brought out. No one asked if we needed refills, how the food was, or if we needed anything else. Instead, several staff members kept looking over at our table throughout the meal, which made us feel uncomfortable rather than welcomed.
