Spicy shrimp and avocado roll and fried rice
    Two P.

Two peas took a chance on this restaurant and this is our review: 1. Rock shrimp in restaurant.... No. takeout maybe. not the same when you order it in house. 2. Pork gyoza were chewy, and the dipping sauce was watered down. 3. Fried rice overall was good for both peas. Would order again. 4. The Shrimp tempura (not pictured) was too big for my mouth tbh. The sauce was good. also, the seaweed was chewy. 5. Spicy shrimp and avocado roll, 80% avocado and 20% shrimp. Thats all.

Ever faced with the decision of where to have lunch in Torrington? Well we got ya covered!! Check out the Fuji Restaurant right on Route 202. Hibachi, sushi, sashimi, lunch specials, bento boxes, tempura, teriyaki, well, you get the idea. They have it all. We were surprised at how big a space Fuji occupies, and if you ever want to go for hibachi, you can rest easy because they have a ton of hibachi tables. We weren't interested in hibachi, but Fuji's lunch special menu sure caught our collective eyes. I mean, how can you go wrong with a soup and a salad and an entrée for ten bucks? The soup was a Miso soup. Now look, lets be honest. Miso soup is kind of bland and boring. Honestly have you ever had a TERRIFIC bowl of Miso soup? I will look you straight in the eye and tell you this version of Miso soup was excellent. It was very flavorful with a lot of seaweed and itsy-bitsy tofu cubes. It was as close to a terrific Miso soup as I have ever had. And to make things even better, it was a big portion, not like the demitasse cups you get once in a while. The salad was cold iceberg lettuce with a few carrot shreds and ginger salad dressing. Zero complaints here. I went for the Thai Basil lunch special with shrimp. Four medium shrimp were stir fried with onions, pepper, broccoli, mushrooms, zucchini, snow peas, and basil leaves served in a fragrant brown sauce with a scoop of rice. Man was it good !! Service was attentive but not intrusive, and we did receive the all-important check-back. So for the value, food, and overall pleasantness of our visit, this is an easy four star review.

This is a $5 "house salad" at Fuji. An embarrassment of 13 leaves of romaine lettuce with ginger dressing dumped on top.

Fuji has been a disappointment lately. Used to be the best in the area. Quality of sushi is still good. $5 salad is cheap, poorly presented and bad value. I can get two heads of lettuce at aldi for 5 dollars. See photo. In comparison to Yume in Unionville, the prices here are higher with no perceptible quality difference.

Fuji is very close by and was a standard favorite of my family for years, throughout the last two years it's been hit or miss so we took a break. We decided to try hibachi again the other night for dinner. I'm very happy to say the food is great again! Cooked perfectly, Hibachi chef was wonderful and entertaining. Sushi was great! My personal favorite is yellowtail and AAC rolls! The Lychee martini was delicious, 3 yummy lychees were in the glass ( they were promptly consumed!). Great family dinner.

I notice that most of the people bitching about the sushi are New Yorkers. Hello, this is Torrington, chain restaurant mecca of the northwest corner of Connecticut. You will not find better sushi anywhere around here, including the chinese buffet next door. (Not to diss the Super Buffet's sushi, because their sushi is awesome...for a chinese buffet) The Hibachi is fun for large groups, I think that for a couple it's kinda...eh just because I think the more people you have, the more fun it is. Yes, the hibachi menu is a bit steep, ESPECIALLY at dinner, but quite honestly, you're paying for the show too. Beware the peeing boy ;) (If you want to know what I mean, go to the hibachi and find out...it's nothing unhygienic, I assure you.) The only difference between the lunch hibachi and the dinner one is that you don't get a salad...oh well, worth saving about half. Lunch or dinner I recommend hibachi salmon or the steak chicken combo. I tend to waffle between the two when I have hibachi. I also highly recommend the sushi lunch special, it's under $10 for two sushi rolls and miso soup, if you don't feel like hibachi. Me and my boyfriend did this this past year for our 2 year anniversary. I have never had any problem with any hibachi chefs or service from the waitresses here. And quite honestly, they're easier to understand than people at the chinese place next door. If you're with someone celebrating a birthday, tell your waitress: They'll bring the birthday person fried green tea ice cream and sing happy birthday with a gong :)

They did seem to do quite a bit of takeout. It's located in a little strip mall right off route 8 in Torrington so it's super easy to access! The food was so good! We split crab rangoons and scallion pancakes and they were so fresh and didn't have that greasy/oily after taste that a lot of places have. Our waitress was so kind and explained one of the dishes to me and actually showed me how to use chopsticks as I wasn't quite grasping it from reading the instructions on the wrapper. They also were super nice chopsticks and not the cheap wooden ones that sometimes splinter! For our entrees my boyfriend had three different sushi rolls, the Godzilla the, the mermaid and the volcano and said they were all really good! They also were huge so we ended up taking half of it home. I had the Chicken Yaki Udon which is basically stir fried udon noodles with chicken and veggies in a sweet soy type sauce. Our waitress asked if we wanted ice cream at the end and it was the perfect way to end the meal! Everyone was so kind and the food was so good that we will definitely be back!!

I liked the look of Hibachi Express so I decided to do a full order this time and see what's up. I can honestly say, best hibachi style food I have had EVER!! I started with the Wonton Soup. The broth is delicate and savory. I wish there was a bit more filling in the wontons but still a very strong solid start. If this was the entry, I can't wait for the spicy miso. The golden fingers are finally ones I enjoy. The outside was not too crispy but I was getting take out so that is expected. I'm sure they were crispy coming out of the oil. Beautiful cooked tender chicken and a perfect batter to meat ration. Next I had the Bento BBQ chicken. Wow!! Amazing flavor. It is an Asian lite BBQ taste and not sticky sweet. Finally, a place that gets the texture right. The chicken is very tender and flavorful and actually has a mouth feel like chicken. Some places mistake tender for mush, not here. My mom ordered the house chow mein fun. The vermicelli was soft, flavorful and perfectly cooked. Plenty of meat inside as well. The chef nailed the balance between cooked noodles but not wet noodles. Amazing dish!! She also ordered a side of hibachi chicken. Again, perfect flavor, tender and great portion. We also grabbed an Atlanta roll. I'm not a cream cheese fan in sushi but this worked. I will gladly try their other offerings next time. The location is very clean and mom and son offer great service. You can order on-line if that is your preference. I will be back and Hibachi Express is my new go-to. I'm very glad I found this restaurant. I would gladly advise even the pickiest person to eat here.

We got the cheese wontons to start (regular crab ragoons but very tasty). We also tried the hibachi beef and broccoli and hibachi general tsao. The onion soup that came with those was a tasty broth. (Definitely will get extra of that next time). For the price it felt like a good amount of food, I pared with the good flavors, we will be back!

"You're not a princess I'm not prince charming Speak with…read moreyour tongue, use body language And pull your skin like wrapping paper round my heart" (Graham Parker) The last time I stepped into this building was a few years ago when it was occupied by the Lemongrass Asian Grill. Today was my birthday, so my dinner spot of choice meant a return here to experience a meal at the newish Charming Thai Restaurant. And we left a few hours later agreeing that this place is fantastic. Soon after we were seated, we met Jessica, who was our principal server. She was an absolute delight with a fantastic personality. She started off with some complimentary noodles and sweet duck sauce. The menu is extensive, with most of the traditional Thai favorites, so think Pad Thai, Drunken Noodle, Fried Rices, Lo Meins, and Pad See-Ew. Other groupings include Chef Specials, Classic Entrees, Curries, and a full slate of appetizers, salads, soups, Pho, and Ramens. When you go through their menu, the various combinations of entrée and protein choices are in the 200 range. So pretty much anyone can eat their favorite Asian food here. We started off with a cup of Wonton Soup (with 6 big wontons) and a cup of Tom Kha Soup with two big shrimp at $5.99 each. The Tom Kha had a mild coconut taste, but I don't mean that in a negative way. I order this a lot, and some places really load up on the coconut flavor so much that the soup resembles a strong thick ice cream topping. Their soup was thinner than some but had enough flavor that it was fantastic. Oh, and those two plump shrimps in my bowl were perfect. We split an $8 order of six pork pot stickers, and they were cooked beautifully without a hint of grease and stuffed with a nice ground pork filling. For our main meal we split a $15.99 order of Chicken Pad Thai. We ordered it mild, but since I like spice, I asked for some extra zip on the side and Jessica brought out a cute little twin dish of Sriracha sauce and Sichuan pepper powder to ramp up the firepower. We loved the Pad Thai, it had plenty of chicken, the noodles were well cooked, and most of all it was sauced perfectly. Not too dry, not too wet, but just perfect. As we were paying our bill, the fact that it was my birthday came up, and Jessica made us promise not to leave yet because she wanted to give me something. That turned out to be a complimentary dish of sweet coconut rice with sliced mango. The portions were so generous that some of the Tom Kha and Pad Thai are now in our refrigerator for tomorrow. Thank you, Jessica, and JJ who tag-teamed us tonight, and here's a special shout-out to Lucy who made the magic happen in the kitchen. The food, the service, the value, and the atmosphere were all exceptional. If you like Thai food as much as we do, head on out to Route 4 and treat yourself to a charming dinner experience at Charming Thai.
