I have seen Fuji forever, but never had been inside until recently. They have mostly booths, and I threw them when I asked for a table. No one else took a table, so I really think my taking one was okay. The hibachi area was closed - that may only be certain nights or occasions? That inside is dark and in shadows. My waiter was a little high strung. He came back to see how I was really frequently and took my plates right away. The food was good. I used Door dash for the first time and this restaurant did disappoint. I ordered the Pepper Tuna Talaki, Miso soup and a combination fried rice. I even added the details for the fried rice under special instructions. The Pepper Tuna Talaki and Miso soup were great. The fried rice was literally some brown rice and some egg bits. It was horrible. I called the restaurant as the fried rice was the main course and after a useless go round, I was told, "If there is nothing else, I will hang up now." What I wanted was the fried rice I ordered, what I got was a waste of their resources and my money. It is pictured in this post. Torrington has lots of great restaurants, but this is NOT one of them. Two peas took a chance on this restaurant and this is our review: 1. Rock shrimp in restaurant.... No. takeout maybe. not the same when you order it in house. 2. Pork gyoza were chewy, and the dipping sauce was watered down. 3. Fried rice overall was good for both peas. Would order again. 4. The Shrimp tempura (not pictured) was too big for my mouth tbh. I've been going to this Fuji for years. But on my most recent trip to get Hibachi when I got the bill they had already added the TIP on for me. Now my feelings about tips are they are to reward exceptional service and not to subsidize the wages for the restaurant workers. So be aware that the Hibachi Chef will get paid a tip as well as the waitresses regardless of the service. I always tip my Hibachi chef after they are done and then the waitress on the bill. The Hibachi here is usually good and the atmosphere is nice. The rolls are great but the Nigiri is not consistent and sometimes fishy tasting. Also the house sake can taste like vinegar. Best to order it by the bottle. Overall it's convenient to my house and I never have had to wait long to get service. Enjoy!! read more

Absolutely amazing food. This is my all time favorite Habichi place, and it is irreplaceable. Recently they have been slightly lacking, and it all really depends on the chef you get. As long as they put a really good amount of each ingredient into each food such as rice, chicken, steak, vegetables, etc. then it is excellent! The restaurant has a very chill vibe, I love the LEDs and soothe lighting. The various different tables, sections, and bars are wonderful for different occasions and even parties. read more

Ever faced with the decision of where to have lunch in Torrington? Well we got ya covered!! Check out the Fuji Restaurant right on Route 202. Hibachi, sushi, sashimi, lunch specials, bento boxes, tempura, teriyaki, well, you get the idea. They have it all. We were surprised at how big a space Fuji occupies, and if you ever want to go for hibachi, you can rest easy because they have a ton of hibachi tables. We weren't interested in hibachi, but Fuji's lunch special menu sure caught our collective eyes. I mean, how can you go wrong with a soup and a salad and an entrée for ten bucks? The soup was a Miso soup. Now look, lets be honest. Miso soup is kind of bland and boring. Honestly have you ever had a TERRIFIC bowl of Miso soup? I will look you straight in the eye and tell you this version of Miso soup was excellent. It was very flavorful with a lot of seaweed and itsy-bitsy tofu cubes. It was as close to a terrific Miso soup as I have ever had. And to make things even better, it was a big portion, not like the demitasse cups you get once in a while. The salad was cold iceberg lettuce with a few carrot shreds and ginger salad dressing. Zero complaints here. I went for the Thai Basil lunch special with shrimp. Four medium shrimp were stir fried with onions, pepper, broccoli, mushrooms, zucchini, snow peas, and basil leaves served in a fragrant brown sauce with a scoop of rice. Man was it good !! Service was attentive but not intrusive, and we did receive the all-important check-back. So for the value, food, and overall pleasantness of our visit, this is an easy four star review. read more

Fuji has been a disappointment lately. Used to be the best in the area. Quality of sushi is still good. $5 salad is cheap, poorly presented and bad value. This was the first restaurant I tried when house hunting here, because I wanted to see if it was worth moving to, to be quite honest. If the place doesn't have a Korean restaurant, it should at least have a good sushi place. I was very pleased that the rolls are consistently good. I love several of the special rolls, but the regular rolls like the avocado rolls, eel and avocado, sweet potato, deep fried California, and so forth are also delicious. I usually grab takeout due to the pandemic--and was gratified that the staff was still wearing masks when so many other places had stopped--but ate inside for the first time last week. Service was a bit spotty, but likely because I was eating at 3 pm, which isn't exactly prime lunch or dinner so likely people were staggering breaks. But the food was still great. read more

Fuji is very close by and was a standard favorite of my family for years, throughout the last two years it's been hit or miss so we took a break. We decided to try hibachi again the other night for dinner. I'm very happy to say the food is great again! Cooked perfectly, Hibachi chef was wonderful and entertaining. Sushi was great! My personal favorite is yellowtail and AAC rolls! The Lychee martini was delicious, 3 yummy lychees were in the glass ( they were promptly consumed!). Great family dinner. read more

If I could give zero stars I would have. The entire experience was horrible. From the unfriendly servers to the price gouging. What hibaci doesn't include noodles with the dinner. We could tell something was wrong right from the beginning. They used yum yum sauce that tasted like it was out of a bottle instead of ginger sauce on their salads. They didn't have mustard sauce with the meal and we ordered filet mignon and the cut we got was low grade. Would think you would get a great meal for $144 not at this place. Everything changes with the pandemic. Restaurants have to change to survive. Customers have to change their expectations a bit, too. We've not been here in the pre-pandemic days as we're not big fans of hibachi tables. What we did do was drop by the other evening for some sushi/sashimi takeout. We came away pleased with the results, mostly. The salmon sashimi was fresh, moist and very tasty, as good as any we've found in this area. likewise for the Angel Roll -- quite a mouthful -- and YT Roll. We were, however, disappointed with there Spicy Tuna Roll, which seemed pureed and not particularly spicy. We'll skip that next time, but there will be a next time, and we'll explore more choices. read more

I notice that most of the people bitching about the sushi are New Yorkers. Hello, this is Torrington, chain restaurant mecca of the northwest corner of Connecticut. You will not find better sushi anywhere around here, including the chinese buffet next door. (Not to diss the Super Buffet's sushi, because their sushi is awesome...for a chinese buffet) The Hibachi is fun for large groups, I think that for a couple it's kinda...eh just because I think the more people you have, the more fun it is. Yes, the hibachi menu is a bit steep, ESPECIALLY at dinner, but quite honestly, you're paying for the show too. Beware the peeing boy ;) (If you want to know what I mean, go to the hibachi and find out...it's nothing unhygienic, I assure you.) The only difference between the lunch hibachi and the dinner one is that you don't get a salad...oh well, worth saving about half. Lunch or dinner I recommend hibachi salmon or the steak chicken combo. I tend to waffle between the two when I have hibachi. I also highly recommend the sushi lunch special, it's under $10 for two sushi rolls and miso soup, if you don't feel like hibachi. Me and my boyfriend did this this past year for our 2 year anniversary. I have never had any problem with any hibachi chefs or service from the waitresses here. And quite honestly, they're easier to understand than people at the chinese place next door. I went for take-out lunch with 2 friends. I told the host/waiter I wanted the Sashimi Box which was a $10.95 lunch special on their menus. I asked to add brown rice, which they dont have. Instead, he told me that it comes with white rice, then I said I wanted to add a salad, he said what I was ordering came with it. I was confused because the menu said it only came with a california roll or egg roll. He showed me a part of the menu that had the sashimi meal that costed $19.95 if I hadn't specified. I was a little put off since he was going to charge me the wrong amount. I told him that wasn't what I was ordering. Then he was like, 'oh ok' I walked away not knowing what I was coming with my meal. What was worse during this whole back and forth he was snotty, disinterested and didn't seem to know what came with what meal. We did not go here to here to eat, but we did end up having some appetizers. It was a Saturday night and it was very loud, a lot of people having fun. Service was so-so. What was a positive were the drinks. If you find my attached picture, you will see when I ordered a vodka and red bull, they would give me the can of red bull and fill almost an entire glass with vodka. Was recently at my son's and we ordered takeout. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised! I got the hibachi filet mignon and shrimp which came with onion soup and salad and fried rice. We also got Tempura shrimp and Tuna tartar. My son got the lo mein noodles instead of rice. The highlights of this feast was the tempura shrimp,lo mein,tuna tartar ,onion soup and the steak and shrimp. The carrot dressing for the salad was delicious! My family and I have enjoyed the food and service at Fuji in Torrington. Their service was impeccable, the restaurant is extremely clean, food was the best Japanese Cuisine I have tasted here in CT, their nigori saké was tasty , delicate and very smooth, but potent served hot as I requested. The Shrimp, Steak and every vegetable served were absolutely incredible. Price is great. We had a great time, the chef was extremely funny and certainly outgoing. We will be visiting again very soon! For dinner, you're looking at about a $25 dollar entree for each person. Fuji is expensive, but a good treat. Always consistent in their food, great service. The staff are super nice. I love this place so much. I used to eat inside the restaurant and the service was great, but now for covid safety I only get takeout. The food is always awesome. I like Pad Thai, any sushi rolls, the little side salads, and the soup. I look forward to my next meal. I am very judgmental of restaurants for their covid19 precautions. Last time I was there I could see 4 or 5 staff all wearing their mask correctly. It was comforting because many restaurant staff at other places get so sloppy with this. The updated interior is beautiful with a modern classy look. I sat at sushi bar alone and chefs were friendly and offered me a special dish of fried salmon belly that was beautifully plated and very tasty. I ordered the tako salad which had a variety of ingredients that I have not had elsewhere and the dressing was scrumptious! I also had the miso soup, standard but good, and 2 rolls. The spicy tuna was good although I would have preferred it a bit hotter, spice wise. The eel and cucumber was good but I really enjoy the typical sauce that's brushed over it which was a little skimpy. I appreciated the ratio of the roll filling (substantial) vs. the amount of rice surrounding it. Things I missed were a hot towel to begin and having my hot tea served from the iron pot instead of a glass mug. I am completely satisfied with my lunch and feel it is a good value for my money. Never had a Waitress before chase me down for a tip she didn't deserve, on top of Interrupting a conversation outside with friends for said tip, making it awkwardly uncomfortable, I didn't argue I merely handed her a tip at 20 percent mind you and went on my way, the food wasn't even worth the price I paid for it at all, and same goes for the service, that wasn't even the worst part, the worst part was being harassed for a tip for poor service, never will I eat here again if the staff are gonna bully customers for tips especially when they don't even deserve one, shame on the employee, and the restaurant for those kinda tactics that are practice and pulled on people. read more

We go here now and again because it's closer than Avon/West Hartford. Their hibachi is good, same with drinks and apps and everything. Last time we went we shared a scorpion bowl and it was really good! I'm not super crazy about their sushi. I had a shrimp tempura roll which is my go to. It's edible but I have had better tasting fish at other places. Not every server is the friendliest but we did have one young girl who we just adored. I wish I could remember her name but she really was so sociable and nice. One of the best servers I've ever had at an Asian restaurant. She was laughing and smiling with us and really looked like she loved her job. I would definitely come back just to have her as our waitress because she made our experience memorable. read more

Great Food! I went here for my brothers birthday and had a great time. I got scallops for my Hibachi, and a Rock N' Roll Sushi Roll, and let me tell you it WAS GREAT. I am an avid eel sushi fan and the combination of eel, cream cheese and avacado and the other ingredients were superb. You often see the same names for sushi rolls but they have different ingredients. This Rock N' Roll was my type of music! My brother had Squid and Beef Hibachi and a Spider Roll which he said he enjoyed. My friend had Filet Mignon Hibachi which she said was good too. The rice was great to, I have been to Hibachi places where the rice isn't good, but here it amazing was for me that night! Showed up unannounced on a friday night and had a very short wait time!
