    Chef Fujiwara

Located in a quiet corner of a brick building, parking is available in the building's retail covered lot, 3h free for restaurant customers. Counter seating only, wonderfully personal experience with the chef. Decor was simple and elegant, a map of Japan made with denim (Chef Fujiwara is from a town famous for its denim industry, Kurashiki in Okayama). The omakase course was delightful, all seafood flown in from Japan. For each course, Chef Fujiwara would point to the location on the map to where it was from. We had 19 courses plus a dessert. Dependent on the day, the seafood could differ. Everything was super fresh, we could taste the depth of the sea from which the fish was from. The house-made shoyu was rich in adding umami to each course. I think i took pictures of everything but could have missed a few as I was mesmerized and felt like I was eating art A special place indeed.

    Everything is delicious

We visited the new Bellevue location and the sushi was absolutely amazing! The new setting is wonderfully decorated and intimate, just perfect for such a foodie experience!

Found a true gem in Bellevue for Edomae-style sushi. Chef Fuji-san brings 30 years of expertise to the counter, and it shows in the delicate preparation of every course. Each piece was balanced and highlighted the natural flavor of the fish perfectly! The atmosphere is charming and intimate- the kind of place you already plan your next visit to before the meal is even over.

tldr: One of the best omakase on the east side and definitely the south end. $150 omakase; walk-ins on Wednesday have a cheaper ala carte menu. Sushi chef and owner has a high quality standard. Located inside New Zen at its sushi counter. I would highly recommend Fujiwara Omakase to any looking for a great omakase experience. This isn't just a good option for the east side, I'd recommend it to folks in Seattle as well who love staples like Shiros and Ltd Sushi. Reservations are very hard to come by so be sure to plan in advance. When you arrive, you'll sit at a nicely prepared sushi counter inside New Zen restaurant. The restaurant wasn't too busy when we were there, so the vibe was relatively quiet. That said, the chef is great at carrying conversation with the 6 total guests at the sushi bar. The omakase is a 13 set with sides like soup, chawanmushi, and ice cream to end the meal. Good selection of beverages includes beer, sake, water, and tea.

A Speakeasy Omakase! Located secretly inside New Zen Sushi. No signs, no name, not even on google maps. But wow, does Fujiwara-san bring mouthwatering game from the sea! He even makes his own salt! I enjoyed every single dish, and each piece was equally refreshing and delicious. Chef Fuji was a delight to talk to, and is very easy going. I can't wait to go back! Fujiwara-san proudly presents his culinary art on handpicked plates, cups and utensils from his favorite place in Japan. His hometown Okayama, Japan. I love this cute touch! He and his wife run this hidden gem in Renton, and they just opened last month. Make reservations through his IG or text before he gets fully booked out. Omakase price is $150 pp before tax and gratuity. Max of 6 people at the bar. He also sells Kaiseki-don, limited to 3 per day. Eat in only. He doesn't want to rob you of eating his deliciously prepared dish at prime time by letting you take it home in the car.. cause who know how long it'll be sitting in traffic for. Haha We made the 7:00PM reservation on Wednesday, and had great timing leaving Bellevue at 6:30PM. Traffic had died down by then, and they have a private lot for easy pull up parking! Highly recommend. Nom nom nom.

Hidden gem new omakase in Renton! Fuji-san and his wife make a very intimate, delicious omakase experience. The location is inside New Zen sushi which is a little strange, although there aren't any other customers in the restaurant other than those for omakase. Only 6 seats and two seatings per night, so book a reservation early! You just text their number to make a reservation. The meal was 12 pieces of nigiri plus two appetizers, chawanmushi in the middle, and dessert. Total was $150 per person. Everything was amazing and expertly made by Fuji-san. He included some items I have never had before including King Mackerel, halibut toro, and sardine. This is now my new favorite omakase in the Seattle area and would definitely come again.

It was my first personal omakase experience and it was a very fun, educational and yummy in my tummy experience!

The omakase with Chef Fujiwara in Renton is the real deal. Every course delivers that wow factor you do not feel at other typical omakase sushi bars around the area. I have tried the major omakases in Seattle such as Taneda, Kashiba, Shiro's, Suzuki, Takai, Wataru, and Fujiwara ranks in my top 2, if not top choice. The vast array of fish is exquisite as you will find nigiri such as Nodoguro (Blackthroat Seapearch), Makogarei (Marbled Flounder, different than typical Hirame), Kue (Longtooth Grouper), and other Japanese classics. Even the Kinmedai and Otoro had out of the ordinary goodness to them. The chawanmushi is the best I have ever had, the ingredients and consistency created a sense of peak harmony. Sake by the glass comes with generous pours, great selection of house sake as I opted for the Dassai. The seasonal firefly squid (Hotaru Ika) tasted like it just came out of the sea. It is an outstanding value for $150 in terms of the caliber of fish selection that you would not easily find at other omakase's. There is a mysterious allure with how this is a restaurant within another restaurant and no specific signage outside. Provides that low key speakeasy hidden factor. This place takes you to Japan without having to go to Japan. This is a no nonsense omakase experience where it is all about the food and ambiance. It is literally a two-person show with the chef and his wife and they provide the most hospitable and welcoming experience. They make everyone at the seating feel like old friends together again. The entire time flowed well as it was a pleasant and relaxing dining experience. I left feeling like I had to come back again as soon as I can get another open reservation. My advice is to run and try this omakase soon before it gets too well known and becomes impossible to book. I can definitely see why all the glowing 5-star reviews out there hold true.

Fujiwara Omakase is open for walk-ins on Wednesday from 5-6pm. Omakase are served on the other days and only done through OpenTable reservations. They have an active Instagram page for updates @fujiwara_omakasa Fujiwara is located inside the New Zen Japanese at the back of the restaurant. There are 6 seats and limited to a first come basis for walk-ins. We walked in shortly after 5pm and were glad they could still accommodate us at the side table even though 5/6 seats at the bar were taken. The kaisen donburi was delicious and fresh. Chef Fuji is very friendly and converses with everyone. We will definitely go again for the delicious food and Fuji san!! Service: 10/10 Ambiance: 10/10 Food: 10/10

We came here for kaisendon on Wednesday and showed up at 5:01 and there were already 5 people seated so there was only one seat left (there's only 6 seats total). We're so thankful they still accommodated us (there were 2 of us) and let us sit at a side table - although given the circumstances, I think it was an exception. All the fish was so fresh and was the best I've ever had! The service was also very good. We'll definitely be back to sit at the sushi bar so we can watch Chef Fujiwara prepare everything!

Looking for an amazing omakase experience? Fujiwara Omakase is just that. They are located inside of New Zen restaurant, at the back sits their 6 seat sushi counter. We went on a Sunday, the main restaurant was closed so it was just the guests at the counter. Chef explained each item as well as provided fun facts about sake, miso, and how to season sushi rice. Chef and his wife were warm, accommodating, and attentive. I appreciated the personalized name cards at each seat. The sushi was fresh and delicious. I had firefly squid for the first time and the miso sauce it was paired with was very tasty. Ended on a sweet note with horjcha(favorite), salted plum, and green tea ice cream. Treat yourself or someone special to you. Worth the 150 dollars!

What an amazing hidden gem omaskase spot in downtown Renton! I haven't been Yelping as much since I mainly share my reviews via Instagram, but since I was able to go back a second time, I wanted to share my experience on this platform as well! What everyone has already written is spot on, and I am grateful I was able to share the first meal with my husband and the second with my mom! Everything was amazing, but especially the uni! Sharing photos of tonight's (11/22) dinner for your viewing pleasure. Can't recommend this spot enough! I definitely want to try for their kaisen don soon!

    Excellent Food and lovely people.
    Thom W.

The sushi chef and his wife are a wonderful team. It's at the back of a restaurant and when they close this starts! You really feel like it's a special experience and it's very personable. Some of the best sushi you'll have. It's a quaint little sushi counter and totally worth it. I'll be back.

Our server was so incredibly sweet, so accommodating and so patient with all of my questions and requests. I started off with the Lychee Sake-tini and I will be thinking about that drink for a longggg time, for someone who loves a fruity lil sweet drink it was perfection in every way. Then the FOOD. You can do hibachi or you can be seated in the dining room and I had my heart set on sushi (but now will be back to try hibachi for sure!). My partner ordered the pico sushi tower and the fried calamari. Both were very impressive serving sizes! She was feeling ambitious and was going to order 3 tapas, but ended up not even being able to finish the two. I ordered the sake bento box and WOW. I had had my heart pretty set on trying it going in because I had looked at the menu ahead of time, and was sad when the menu didn't have it listed as gluten free BUT I mentioned it to our server and she was happy to accommodate. I got to live my sushi bento box dreams We already are thinking of all the reasons and times to come back, 10000/10!!!

Not a lot of people there for a random weekday lunch. Lots of different rolls and sushi on the menu, along with beverages. The happy hour menu is also valid during lunch time. We tried a bunch of appetizers. My favorite was the calamari. There isn't much batter but there is a sweetness from orange zest. The edamame and takoyaki were decent. The chicken kaarage was not particularly flavorful nor did it have much of a crispy skin. Also tried the Cos-no-politan mocktail which definitely had that grapefruit flavor. For mains, I got the bento and the Super Bad Boy roll off the happy hour menu. The bento box has good portions. The contents change day to day, but I got chicken teriyaki over rice, 3 pieces of a crab roll, 2 pieces of fish nigiri, seaweed salad with some small octopi. Everything in the box was decent except the teriyaki, which was a bit rubbery. As for the Super Bad Boy roll, it's one of their fried rolls, and the frying made the roll taste a bit dry. Should have ordered a non-fried roll. Overall, service was good, portions okay. Some items were good, some were not that great.

We walked in without a reservation and had about a 20-30 minute wait, which honestly wasn't too bad. There's a fairly large waiting area by the entrance. Getting to the restaurant was probably the most unexpected part--you actually have to drive through a car dealership to get there. I had no idea there was a restaurant tucked back there! Parking was surprisingly easy, though. The sushi was pretty average for the price point. The rolls weren't anything particularly memorable, but the fish itself tasted fresh and wasn't fishy. The tempura was good, and we also enjoyed the other dishes we ordered. Service was fine, but a little slow at times. They didn't really check in on us much, and it took a while for someone to come back around, but it wasn't a huge issue. The restaurant is right by the lake, so if you come on a nice day, you get a pretty nice view. Overall, I'd be happy to come back if friends wanted to go, but I'm not sure I'd specifically seek it out on my own. A solid option for reasonably priced sushi in Bellevue, just don't expect anything extraordinary.

Takai…read morehas been on my "to try" list ever since hearing that Chef Shiro co-partnered opening a restaurant on the Eastside a couple of years ago. Reservations were made ~3 weeks in advance for a reasonable dinner time slot on a weekend. We opted for the A La Carte Menu option which gave us the ability to order individual menu items while still offering omakase options. Our party of 4 ordered 2 omakase's (nigiri choice), a nigiri set, a salmon moriawase, and seasonal tempura. I personally ordered the omakase and the experience was well worth it with the sushi quality being extremely high. There were ~7 to 8 courses served throughout the omakase experience including 3 courses involving nigiri and the remaining courses involving a blend of small bites (egg, fish cake, tempura, sashimi, miso soup, dessert egg, hojicha ice cream to name a few). What especially stood out to me was the outstanding service that was displayed throughout the course of the meal. Our server was notably attentive and even went as far as switching the presentation of my nigiri courses after noticing I was left-handed so that I could eat from left to right while normally advising guests to eat from right to left. Every time one of us went to the restroom, our tablecloths were folded by our server and placed back onto the table. Tableware was immediately cleared upon finishing a course and every course in the omakase set came with a detailed description of the food you were about to eat and where in the world it was coming from. In all, the great food makes me want to be back soon, but the high level of service for the night completely made the experience that much more memorable.

Nothing stands out though, so you may not walk away "wowed". I think if this was half the price it'd be 4 or 5 stars, but for what you pay, I don't know if it'd crack the top in the greater Seattle area. Missus says it's on the same level as I love sushi - there's nothing special about this place. The booking and setup: One of the missus' acquaintances scored an OpenTable reservation for three. Getting prime dinner spots here usually requires deliberate timing or alert tracking, so having someone else handle the booking logistics was a welcome relief. The restaurant operates on strict seatings (roughly 1 hour and 45 minutes), situated on the ground floor of the One88 building at 180 Bellevue Way NE. We parked at the pickleball / orange theory parking lot - just steps away from the front door. Parking cost was $6.62 for 2 hours. Arrival & room vibe: We were seated promptly after arriving at 725pm. The background vibe is some kind of jazz track (that has gone on the whole time). Bathrooms are individual gender neutral - two at the back. There's 7 seats at the sushi bar, probably 6 at the drinking bar, and a smattering of sit-down tables. Drinks: just still water. I ordered a Mikan ale for $12. The meal (Omakase progression): 23 courses total. Starters / Cooked courses: right to left - persimmon with shimeji mushroom, tuna belly, some kind of snail. The sashimi: akami from Spain, amberjack, yellowtail / blue snapper. Missus liked the amberjack. One more course before the Nigiri! Chawanmushi - with freshwater eel, shrimp, and shimeji mushrooms. Nigiri highlights: 18 pieces of sushi! - 1st: knifejaw bream from Chiba - chewy, - 2nd: chutoro from Mexico (medium fatty tuna): as expected. - 3rd: shima aji - jack mackerel: missus liked this piece. - 4th: shiroi - squid from Japan. Chewy. Definitely squid. - 5th: iwashi - sardine - from Chiba Japan (missus likes the saltiness). - 6th: king salmon belly with onion on top - fatty and nice. - 7th: hotate (scallop) with Yuzu zest and lemon juice - colder than I expected. - 8th: Nodoguro from Akita Japan - missus favourite Tempura break! Fish, shishito pepper, mushroom. Dip into the salt! The shishito is mega spicy - missus is unfazed, but my mouth is on fire. OK back to sashimi (he's cutting more as we eat tempura) - 9th: akamizuke, marinated in special soy sauce, from Mexico. - 10th: kinmedai - golden eye snapper from Chiba Japan - - 11th: amaebi - sweet shrimp - 3 days aged - chewy and silky? - we also got a tempura version of the head, which was crunchy. - 12th: otoro (fatty tuna) - I'm a sucker for this kind of piece. - 13th: kohada (gizzard shad) - the texture and depth of flavour was good in this one. - 14th: Kisu (Japanese Whiting) - 15th: Katsuo (Skipjack Tuna / Bonito) with scallions on top, - 16th: handroll - Hokkaido uni, ikura, shiso leaf, tuna. Dang uni is good. Miso soup break! It was decent. - 17th: anago (saltwater sea eel) - grilled - 18th: tamago - egg - dessert - with hojicha ice cream Service & pacing: decently fast. It's 8:05pm and we're already into sushi. Jun asks if the sushi is rightsized (rice wise). Overall service is good but I'm sitting in the corner so it's kinda awks for the wait staff to refill water, etc. Jun will wait until you finish your current piece before moving on. We fully finished the last course and paid by 9:10pm. The damage: normally $195/person for the omakase, before drinks (I ordered the ale), tax, and tips. They don't auto add tips. We ended up Venmo'ing the person who got the reservation $290 for us two, so that's $145/person? I guess not the worst. Final verdict: variety but less size? Nothing stood out to either myself or the missus. The upside is that we were all full, though.
