Came back to ask us about our meals and refill our waters but on to the important stuff, what we ate! Ordered the shrimp dumplings, which were super delicious, chewy wrap around steaming shrimp and came with a light soy dipping sauce. I ordered three rolls spider, spicy tuna, and salmon skin. I must say the spicy tuna was my favorite. The spider roll was decent and so was the salmon skin roll but this roll was disappointing only in the fact that I have a huge obsession for the way Sushi Tango, one of my favorite places in MN makes it. And the mister had a tempura rice bowl which came with another soy dipping sauce for the tempura and crunchy seaweed on the rice, really a great mixture. Would definitely recommend. read more

Went last night for Valentines day and it was fantastic, the only disappointment was that the hibatchi side was full, and they were only seating those with reservations. We were seated on the sushi bar side, I and my friend had twin lobster terryaki, husband had seafood terryaki (salmon,shrimp,scallops,lobster) and son had steak and shrimp terryaki. To piggyback off my family's comment from Anita J, we DID wait over 2 hours to be serviced. We had to get the attention of the staff in order to bring to their attention that no one's come over to check on us, update us on what's going on, nor offer an apology for the long wait. The chefs didn't start cooking until well after 9pm and had to cook for 20 people, most of which are older and prefer not to eat that late at night. Considering we came out to celebrate my aunt's birthday, we truly expected a better experience than what we received. I would NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE OF COLOR OR IN BIG GROUPS!!! There were other groups that came after us and were seated before us, greeted by their host in a timely manner, and were eating well before we were even seated. It was very noticeable. As soon as we brought our concerns to their attention, their manager on duty was very rude, yelling, very aggressive and sarcastic, also unwilling to satisfy her customers. She actually let us leave unsatisfied. The only thing she was concerned with was getting all of yo pay out bill in full plus gratuity and tips. Which we did because that's just who we are GOOD HUMBLE INTELLIGENT PEOPLE that were treated like the dirt on the ground. I do not recommend this place to anyone, unless they train their staff and management on proper customer service skills, excellent verbal communication skills, active listening skills, and bring thorough in paying attention to detail. Went here on the basis of an Urban Spoon recommendation about a week ago, while waiting for our tires to be changed out (walked a bitterly cold half mile from F&F to get here, so we were motivated diners!). Turned out to be a great recommendation. We warmed ourselves successfully by the hibachi grills, and really loved the meals to which we were treated. The service was warm and friendly, and the meal comes with soup, salad, and dessert... so we ended up with a doggie box to take home with us. We ordered a sushi appetizer (and were generally quite impressed with the range of sushi choices available) and were very pleased with its freshness and preparation. My one nit-pick: the salad was overly drenched with the house dressing, and was more like a diner-style salad of iceberg than a nice restaurant-style salad with a more palatable selection of greens. That aside, this is one of the most cost-effective hibachi houses I've *ever* eaten at, so we'll definitely be returning. read more

I've been going here since the day they opened and they know me by name. The food is good. I prefer the sushi over the hibachi as far as quality goes. Some times they are a little slow because its busy but the service isn't terrible. Reservations are recommended but make sure everyone is here or they won't seat you. You can only order once on specials night. The bartender Dan is awesome. He is always coming up with new drinks for us and is very personable. Specials are now on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. When I went to Fujiyama's for the first time, I did not dine there that night. A table for 2 was expected to take 30-45 minutes and my party did not care to wait that long. When I returned, I'm glad that I stayed this time. I had a variety of sushi and each piece was really good and fresh. My girlfriend really enjoyed the sushi that she had too. The service was good here and even though it was pretty busy, my waiter still made it by my table frequently. This is clearly a popular spot for Japanese food and for good reason. Being my first time at Fujiyama, I didn't have big expectations. I love sushi, but if it's bad, it's BAD. Fujiyama had excellent sushi. Better yet, they run a lunch special--half off sushi--on Mondays and Tuesdays. We had the sunshine roll, another amazing roll that I can't remember, and veggie tempura. The roll was excellent and everything tasted very fresh. However, while the food was excellent, the service was sub par. Although our server came by our table many times, and we wanted to order again, he failed to notice. He also didn't notice that my water was empty. In addition to that, he dropped off our bill without asking if we were finished. I felt like he was trying to rush us, which is off-putting. I love this place! Sometimes service is a bit hit or miss but the food is always satisfactory. :-) The hibatchi is definitely a must if you've never had it before. The chefs are adorable and entertaining. My favorite sushi rolls are the Saki Maki, Crispy Eel, spicy yellowtail and Rock and Roll. These rolls do not disappoint! And they are all cooked for those who are too afraid to try the raw stuff except for the yellowtail. Great place to have a birthday. I've been to Fujiyama before for a girls night out and had a GREAT experience. Because of this I suggested that my husband and I go there for lunch. I am regretting it now. We were seated promptly. Our waitress came over; didn't introduce herself and took our drink orders (a Pepsi and a water with lime). She brought back a Pepsi and a water with lemon and that was the last we saw of her - at our table- for almost 15 minutes. She was in the dining room, going to other tables and would even come near ours but would not stop. (Please note - it was not that busy in the restaurant - just a light lunch crowd and ample waitstaff) We were at the point of getting up and leaving when she finally came and took our order. Our soups and salads were brought out shortly after that, but we had no silverware on the table, so we ate our soup and then tried to flag down our waitress once again. Finally utensils were brought for us to eat with. Our appetizer of dumplings were delightful: nicely cooked, well seasoned, hot from the kitchen. When our lunches arrived (chicken and veggie tempura) they were set before us and the waitress once again disappeared before we could even realize that she set in front of us Shrimp and Veggie tempura. While she walked through the dining area she did not check on us; once we were finally able to get her to come to the table she took the shrimp tempura away - no apologies, no promises of fixing it - and disappeared into the kitchen. After another wait she reappeared with the correct order, placed it on the table and walked away. We were glad to have ordered the wonderful dumplings because the chicken tempura was fairly flavorless and uninspiring. The broccoli tempura (found on both plates) was not cooked all the way though (all though we didn't send it back, unsure when or if we could ever get the waitress to our table again). The yellowtail and salmon sashimi were probably the best... texture and freshness were both decent, but they were a bit too cold. The tuna slices were halved. They are a bit weak in the rolls so far. We've tried rainbow, dynamite, spicy tuna, dragon, and white swan. The best so far is the white swan. When I crave for sushi and don't want to travel too far, this place will do. read more

This review is for takeout only: Two small complaints - a little pricey as I paid $30 for two specialty rolls walking out the door. None of the specialty roll descriptions are listed online. In fact, they're not on the menu listed there at all. If you go into the online ordering, you'll see many of the names of the specialty rolls, but most won't include descriptions. They're not on the takeout menu, either. I ended up taking pictures of those pages of the menu so I can reference them in the future. I'm not a big nori fan, so I asked for my rolls to be made with soybean paper, which they easily and happily accommodated for an upcharge of $1 a roll. I walked in and ordered there and waited around 10-15 minutes on a Friday night - totally reasonable especially considering how packed the restaurant was. My rolls were delicious and packed for travel. As mentioned in other reviews, they were big and I had the majority of my meal right away, but went back to nibble on the rest over the course of the night and it was all still good an hour or so later. My friends and I have been coming here for years. We pretty much eat the same thing every time and I've never had complaints until last night. It was a very busy night with all of the graduation celebrations and the staff seemed flustered. We ordered the normal things that we would've gotten on the hibachi side at the sushi side and that was where our problem came in. Food prepared in the kitchen isn't quite the same as the food prepared or the hibachi, my friend salmon was over cooked oversauced and under seasoned. She complained to our waiter saying she didn't like the sauce, the dun-ness and seasoning of the fish and he went to get the manager. He returns and says that his manager isn't going to do anything, we request the manager again. She came over with the worst attitude and told us that she doesn't give away food because people don't like what they ordered. We told her she won't come to us disrespectfully and rudely telling us what she won't do, instead she should tell us our options for the over cooked salmon. She changed her tone and gave options. Once she was done and the waiter came back to do anything she would glare in our direction and then immediately ask him what we said. Our issue was never really the waiter but just the over cooked salmon and then the "manager". I've never had bad service at this location but this experience is going to make me second guess ever going there again. read more

I have yet to sit down at the hibachi tables (which are usually more of a show than a meal) but the service at the dinner tables was very good. You're always accounted for and they're happy to handle larger parties. The dinner menu covers a lot of ground and the sushi is prepared with very fresh ingredients. I've enjoyed a variety of dishes from their Tepura and Teryaki selections to go along with the Miso soup and Gyoza appetizers. Sure, most of the common Japanese dishes lack imagination, but they sure make it all up with taste. read more

Sushi is my favorite, they have a discount on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays that makes it a great choice, you can still walk put of there paying an avarage of 20dlls per person if you have sushi, but sushi is usually more expensive. My friend and I went here for a 10 dollar sushi meal for lunch. I think it was called a lunchbox. It came with a salad and miso soup. I loved the miso soup, it tasted smokey. I'd never had it before. Also included in the lunchbox were two sushi rolls. We each ordered two different sushi rolls. I got Tuna and Cucumber, and one with Salmon she bought Alaska and California rolls. We asked for tea and received roasted rice tea. It was delicious. I thought the rolls were too big for me and the fish could have been fresher. But it certainly was enough food, we ended up taking most of it home between us. For $20 we recieved more than enough food and excellent service. The waitresses and sushi chefs were really from Japan, you could tell just in their mannerisms, besides the fact that they were speaking Japanse! I think the reason for my lower rating is, I've had better. But of course I was on the coast (in Lima, Peru) when I first had sushi, so I think my expectations are probably very high. read more

Been going here for years. Dining area is separated into 2 sections, sushi and hibachi. You can order sushi in the hibachi section and vice versa. Typically go on the discount nights (Sunday, Monday, Tuesday) as they have a separate menu with discounted sushi, as well as a couple hibachi dinners. The wait for your can get above average on these nights, but nothing too atrocious. Never had a bad meal or poor service. About the only negative thing I can say involves their seating practices. They WILL NOT seat you unless all members of your party are there. Even if one person is parking the car. A little annoying, but you learn to get past it. read more
