Drinks are great. Espresso martini made with real espresso is 10/10. Food is 8/10 for sure. This place is a good time sally.

The ice cream is definitely store bought, likely Sysco or Kroger brand.

Date of visit: November 2, 2024 After forgetting about the gift card we received for our wedding almost 2.5 years ago, we took advantage of an evening downtown with a couple friends to use the gift card and get an extra little show with our dinner. Alyssa was our server and unfortunately I wasn't able to catch our chef's name, but he was very good at what he did; between explaining what everything was and the flashes of hand work, we were entertained while our food was prepared. We shared our table with another party and they gave us a decent amount of space so we didn't feel as though we were bumping elbows with strangers, and I appreciated that. All of the food was quite good, from my teriyaki steak and shrimp to the opening salvos of soup and salad. The sauces that were served with the meal were also good; I can't quite explain the Yummy Yummy sauce, but I know that I do think it's yummy! Really the only faux pas here was the pacing was a bit off. By the time I received my shrimp, the steak was cold and I wish I had been advised of this and I would have just treated them as though they were different courses and enjoyed them separately.

My Visit: I dined at this location with my husband. We made reservations via the Open Table app. Prior to arrival we noticed that we were running a few minutes behind so we called and asked if we'd still be able to dine-in and were kindly informed that we would still be able to eat. When we arrived, we walked up the stairs to the dining area and were immediately seated at a hibachi grill with a party of 3 whom had been waiting. The waitress served the waters, salads, and miso soups right away. She immediately followed with taking our orders. Food: My husband and I both ordered hibachi chicken and shrimp with fried rice. The food was good, and they offer yum-yum sauce (important to me because I've been to a hibachi spot that did not have yum yum sauce). Service: S for satisfied. I wouldn't rave about the service, but I wouldn't say that it was awful either. Pros: allowed my husband and I to still dine-in after arriving 8 mins late, immediate and efficient serving, no problem with redeeming birthday gift certificate. Cons: Felt a bit rushed. While everyone at our hibachi grill was boxing up left overs, the employees turned the lights off on us. In their defense, the restaurant had just closed. Value: $$ We spent at least $120 for two on our visit and that includes a $30 birthday gift certificate. However; we each had an alcoholic beverage as well. **birthday gift certificate: I have noticed that a lot of people have negative reviews of this location due to the redemption process of the birthday gift certificate. It is important to print the certificate when you receive it, check its expiration date, and read their policies. I believe it must be printed, redeemed at dinner time, and you could be asked to see I.D. Can't remember all the policies but just review them so there is no issue, if you have one. Ambiance: location could use a deep clean, especially the carpeting. Location: 850 N Plankinton Ave, Milwaukee, WI 53203 Phone: (414) 270-0890

Got the seafood noodles and steak. Food was great. Khalid was amazing. Best show I've seen in a while!

Is there any other place to go downtown to get hibachi? Maybe, but Benihana is the spot to go to if you have a large group and want to get hibachi and you're downtown. Parking stinks, but it's not their fault. The folks are super nice, from the host to the servers, and the person making the food. It's definitely an experience and I would definitely recommend if you're looking for a good ole time.

Honestly I'm glad I didn't check the reviews before I went here. The outside is a little off putting because it's an old building that doesn't look like it's been updated. We went for downtown restaurant week because they had a deal and we love hibachi. We made a reservation and we're sat immediately. Our waitress was quick and got our drinks in a timely manner. I really liked our chef as well. He didn't talk a lot but he definitely would if someone started to strike up a conversation so he was able to adapt to different crowds. This was some of the best tasting hibachi I've had. It was super flavorful. I do wish the vegetable portion was bigger but overall I enjoyed my meal.

He went early to get our bake on the list and they were spot on with the wait time. We did sit outside which I think sped things up. We all ordered an assortment of coffee beverages. There are so many great options on the menu and I was torn between three. Luckily one of my friends was torn between two of the same ones I was looking at so she split them. The spam omelette was delicious and paired well with the Johnny cakes. The Johnny cakes are massive and we ended up both taking leftovers home of that. The orange blossom syrup was really good with it. Our server was attentive and stayed on top of water refills which was appreciated as it was a warm day to be eating outside. They also have a second location which I am eager to try.

Our server was fun to chat with and definitely made the experience a bit more interesting. I stopped in for brunch on a Wednesday around 11am and snagged the last open table. Ordered the Steak & Eggs and was impressed by the value; healthy portion, reasonable price. Perfectly cooked medium rare steak with chimichurri, crispy-runny eggs, and excellent potatoes holding it all together. The food is thoughtfully plated without trying too hard, and the prices feel fair for the quality. Definitely worth checking out if you haven't been. Another lil Milwaukee gem!

Than we waited for the bus lady to come clean the table. I had a smile on my face as she approached me but she just swung her dish tub around me and I was so confused. I was standing there waiting for her, like IN HER WAY! Smiling and all! lol this was the worst restaurant I have ever been to. The whole vibe here is that of a toxic work environment, starting with the hostesses that have zero and I mean ZERO interest in your experience as a customer of this establishment. Frankly makes me feel sorry for the owners when they have staff like this working for them. I had to walk away from two drinks we ordered on the way out because of the second hostess's attitude with us!!! She was so rude to the lady that prepared our drinks! Than was rude to us? People just don't understand sometimes that they are in the wrong field and we as customers don't have to put up with their attitude wherever it may be coming from. It's a pass for me, sorry Xavier we won't be coming back! (Xavier was our server, he was super nice, he gets the whole customer experience portion which seems to be a foreign concept to the rest of the staff). Go elsewhere and avoid all the evident internal drama from staff directed at their customers from Sweet Diner!

We got the mimosa and Bloody Mary flights. They even flavor their own vodkas in house for the bloody's! Online it said both kinds of flights were included their special if the day, which was BOGO half off, but the staff told us the bloody flights were not included. We ordered a skillet, burrito, and harvest hash. Everything was great and came out quickly! What the restaurant is lacking is in overall aesthetic and cleanliness. It seems unfinished inside, has chipped paint, the canvas on the seats is ripping, and the floors were quite dirty where we were seated. We visited when there was only an hour left of them being open, and the staff made it seem like they were wanting to close up. If some of these items are addressed, this place has potential to be really great!

Brunch It Up (possibly in the middle of rebranding to just "Brunch.") is a classic breakfast spot in downtown Milwaukee...we were there on a Sunday morning...high brunch time, and were seated quickly upstairs. The place had an overall run-down vibe to it...scuffed paint on the walls and a general feeling of not quite matching the quality of the upscale brunch spot implied by their modern logo. Menus...I normally don't comment on the menu itself but our table featured no less than 4 different menus...the regular menu, a drink menu, a specials menu and a mimosas menu...choices are wonderful, but the immediate reaction is this is a whole mess of menus on the table, and I don't know what to look at first. It felt haphazard. Let's move on to the coffee...Coffee is an essential part of the brunch experience. Even at a diner, you want it to be strong...the mug it came in was nice, but it was weak coffee. I need coffee to kick my butt, and if you're serving what's close to "browned water" at a breakfast place, you're missing the mark. How about the food? I can't fault them for the generosity of the portions, but will say individual dishes were way too much for my wife and I...we wish smaller portions were available, so so much didn't go to waste. My wife had the Egg and Waffle sandwich with waffle fries. It was fine. I had the Harvest Hash made with egg whites...the eggs were a little overcooked. (Egg whites require a thoughtful touch when cooking them so they are finished white and not browning all over.) There are plenty of fresh tomatoes, mushrooms, and peppers in there (I guess that's the extent of the harvest in Milwaukee) The hashbrowns it all sat on were undercooked. We were excited about the croissant beignets...Available were the regular ones with chocolate or strawberry dipping sauce, and a special with a fruit dipping sauce. They couldn't mix and match sauces, so we got the special. They were okay but a bit over-fried, losing the croissant texture altogether ...I mean, there's nothing wrong with deep-fried dough with sweet things to dip them in, but we do wish they hadn't fried the croissant out of them to give us the unique experience implied by the name. The menu has plenty to choose from...every breakfast savory or sweet thing you could imagine...and on the nicely designed, modern-looking menu at looks like it could be amazing...but everything we got, plus the experience of sitting in a place that felt a little rundown, left us overall disappointed.
