Your typical hood Chinese take out place. There's one chair inside for those waiting. They take a bit longer than expected to get orders out. Standard prices. Lunch special is a little over $10 and there's a small upcharge if you choose specialty rice like chicken fried rice. It also doesn't come with a drink. Altogether the food was $11 and some change. I got my standard test food which is the orange chicken lunch special. They use short grain rice that is smothered in soy sauce. The rice has some green in it, but none of the other veggies and no eggs which is what you typically find in good fried rice. It's better than a lot of other fried rice, but you definitely taste the soy & oyster sauce because they overdid it. The orange chicken is the dreaded "orange sponge." It's also not orange flavored and most likely general tso's sauce that they are trying to pass off as orange sauce (something shady places try to do.) The chicken is also by default spicy. Below average cheap chicken that the "meh" sauce tries to hide. At least there's not a cup full of sauce so it doesn't spill all over the bag and get ln the fried rice. Overall, the fried rice is ok and the orange chicken subpar. This definitely wouldn't be a regular visit from me. read more

This is more about service than food. The food has been nice and ok, but it's a 3-5 minute walk so I go more for convenience if I order food. They jacked up the price of almond cookies so that's already a deal breaker for me! Ever since this place got the Lottery it has been AWFUL! I thought it would help a local business make more money and prosper instead of just gas stations, but I guess I was wrong. There is only 1 lady there in charge of taking orders and answering the phone and she is either very overworked or just DOES not care. I have stood there for a full minute or so with no one at the window, and when she does come out, she stands at the desk checking her phone not responding to my 'Hello'! I can hear a tv show in another language behind the counter, so maybe she's wrapped up in that. Today I had a $4 win on a lottery ticket. She flung the money in the takeout window and just walked away! I had intended to purchase more tickets for tonight's drawing, so I had to wait til she came back to do that. She is not pleasant or helpful at all. I will walk a few extra blocks to the gas station and risk my life if I want to play the lottery. Reference to Not flavorful : Spicy shreaded Chicken/ Beef and Pepper steak with Onion. I don't know what is going on but the food mentioned has not tasted well seasoned and seems to be rather 'watered down'. I started purchasing the Spicy shredded Chicken and also Spicy shredded beef several months ago when they both were delicious well seasoned and meats were nicely shredded like ( cost about $19.00 per order). The last time two times a couple of months ago I ate the shredded chicken the taste was not flavorful, like it was watered down and the chicken looked almost like zucchini strips. I purchased the paper steak with onions yesterday and it tasted watered down like. Is Fungs cutting back on the seasoning to save cost, hummm. Plenty of parking the restaurant is in a small mall. It does get tight on the weekends though. Watch out for the guys trying to sale you CD's and Movies. This time I called in for delivery. The order taker was friendly and efficient. He had to change my address because I have moved since the last time I ordered for delivery. He didn't miss a beat. Kudos to him!! :) I have ordered from here thousands of times. My food experience has been anywhere from ok to great. This time it was excellent!!! This is the second time I've had this place and the first time a had a little cold so I thought that may have affected the fact I couldn't taste the flavor but today I tried it and it still tasted pretty bland. I got the lunch special. It had fried rice which tasted like white rice. Also, it has shrimp. I didn't mind it but if someone is allergic then they should give them a heads up for any seafood allergy. I got the Mongolian beef special which was $9 something before tax. The price and the plate size was decent but the taste of the beef was simply ok. The worst part is I placed an order and was told 15 min wait but it was more like 45.. I will prob not come back.. there's other places that have the same special price which includes an egg roll and this place didn't. Overall, not a good experience. This establishment continues to deteriorate in services and food. In the winter no heat at all. The place looks awful. But the food is worse. I ordered yesterday fried rice and egg foo young. The fried rice was gummy and dry. And the white steamed rice was under cooked. And the sauce was watery and tasteless. It was so bad I returned today but they are closed on Sundays I discovered. I was walking home from 47th street when I saw this Fung's Chop Suey. It's not a very nice place. I've passed by here a gazillion times but I never though to even glance at this until my stomach started calling. Inside is pretty empty - only a couple of tables, no deco at all, just an enlarged version of their full menu pasted on the wall...all the better to see! The lady behind the counter can't really understand English very well so do speak slowly. I ordered a Fung's Special to-go. My husband and I loved it to bits (yes! we shared!)! It was $8.95 in total but you get a serving worth of rice and 2 - 3 servings worth of the beef, chicken, shrimp, broccoli, chinese vege, and water chestnut in garlic brown sauce. The beef and chicken were tender, the shrimp fresh and crunchy, the sauce was tasty and flavorful. Of course it's not the Michelin kind of standard, but it's like what my grandma would cook and tastes just about as nice. Warms my heart to the core with such homecooked food! I wouldn't make a special trip here just to eat the food, but if you're in the neighborhood, no harm giving it a try! read more

I got the potstickers, sesame chicken and fried rice, and a strawberry smoothie all for 13.60! The potsticker were huge and had a ton of meat stuffed in them. The sesame chicken was huge chunks and pretty good. The fried rice was good and all of these items could have fed 3 or 4 people there was so much. By far the smoothie was the best! This is about as close to New York style Chinese food that you can find anywhere near Hyde Park and probably even the rest of Chicago. It totally blows all the other Chinese places around here away. Very fresh, well seasoned, flavorful food and at very cheap prices. I've tried their apps which are solid and a couple of their combo meals but the Mongolian chicken stands out with chunks of chicken and a spicy sauce. Delivery is cash only but it is free (tip nicely) and there's no minimum either which I guess is a huge oddity in Chicago. The first thing you'll notice about Fung's is that its a little rundown. Some of the characters are a bit shady, but it isn't in the nicest part of town. The real saving grace of this little asian-immigrant establishment is the food and its price. The service is average, sometimes curt and a little rough around the edges but otherwise fine. Above average Chinese food for amazingly dirt cheap prices. The meals easily can last for 2-3 meals and at less than $5-7, the value makes it worth the trip if you're nearby. However, its not mind blowing enough to be worth any trip over 15 minutes, but they do deliver. The hours are reasonable and they are open late. So if you're in the neighborhood and really craving that shrimp lobster fried rice, consider dropping by. read more

This place is a hit or miss. Whenever I order something new, I really hope that it taste good. My all time favs is the spicy chicken fried rice and broccoli and chicken fried rice combo. The food is good but the delivery service is horrible. In October, the night delivery driver would not come to the door. I had to go outside of my apt complex gate to get the food. Today, ( about noon) the driver did the same thing, however, I did not go outside. I waited until he came to the door. I'm on the first fl, but there are steps to my apt.
