We were craving dim sum and decided to try this place instead of going to minghin. We were pleasantly surprised and definitely over ordered. - shumai were amazing and had big chunks of shrimp - har-gau were good especially with the chili oil and usually my husband doesn't like texture like this but enjoyed it - steamed soup dumpling were juicy and tender - house special chow mein - HIGHLY recommend, they said the noodles are made in house and you can tell. So good and would come back for this alone - seafood hot pot - surprisingly good and enjoyed the mushroom and scallops in here. Wish there were more noodles in it

They were jam packed and we thought we would have to wait long but that was not the case. We were able to be seated quickly at the bar and everything came out quick. Food was delicious

Had a great take-out experience here this evening, just around the corner from my Mag Mile hotel. We got some edamame, wonton soup and soup dumplings. All were delicious. My only regret is that I couldn't try this more food as everything smelled and looked amazing inside the restaurant! The food was served pretty quick, and the hostess was very friendly and took time time to offer me a glass of water while I was waiting.

We went to Shang Noodle and got the jampong and chow fun. The portions were generous for the price, and the food tasted really good. The chow fun was still a little crispy, not exactly what I expected, but still done very well. The jampong uses egg noodles instead of rice noodles, which gave it a nice bouncy texture. I will say the soup was a bit light, so if you're coming for a soupy jampong, you might be a little disappointed. The ambience was on the nicer end for a casual spot, but you could easily go in casual wear. Service was great, too; they kept our waters refilled and checked in on us throughout the meal. Overall, the food was really good for the price, and the portions were more than enough. You could probably even split a dish between two people if you don't have a huge appetite.

Good hot and sour soup. Server was charming. They make their own lo mein noodles. Husband really liked the ma po tofu. Portions are very large.

Relatively small place but very nicely designed. Does not take reservations so resulted in a short wait - even at 5:30pm on a Saturday. Great location in/near Streeterville - we walked to Navy Pier after. Dim Sum options are on the menu, but we were warned they take 20 minutes so we did small plates instead. Nice selection. Could see entrees at other tables and those portions looked massive. Sharing the small plates made for a perfect date night. Had a nice selection of mocktails too.

Love this place. The food is very good and the service is great. The soup dumplings and the red chili chicken are my favorite.

After a productive solo shopping day, I was starting to get hungry. I stumbled on Shang Noodle and was so excited to try it. The waiter was friendly and recommended the Sichuan Maocai Pot. I've never tried anything like it and honestly it was not for me. I know nothing about this type of cuisine and would like the explore more with the food. I didn't enjoy the numbing sensation which I now know is the whole purpose. I liked the flavor of the soup and the ingredients went well together, but once the numbing kicked in, it felt like I was having an allergic reaction (it was the numbing) and couldn't taste anything else. I couldn't eat it anymore. I loved how intimate and cozy the restaurant was and if I venture out that way again, I'll try something different!

Located on lower Grand, this intimate Asian restaurant had good pork chops. I would wait on the crab noodles. I would like to come back to try other items. The tables were close to other tables. The wait staff were friendly.

Went here on a whim last night after reading all the glowing reviews on Yelp. Before that, I checked out a few eateries on the 4th floor of the Nordstrom building, but nothing really stood out, and honestly, none of them seemed very busy and the one restaurant Lao Sze Chuan was way too expensive, $30+ entrees were average and the place wasn't busy at all. So I decided to try Shang Noodle, which was tucked away on a side street off Grand Ave., just steps from Michigan Ave. It's across from the Nordstrom building, past Labriola's, down some steps and about a block away located on the south side of the street. As soon as I walked in, and I wasn't expecting this but the restaurant was extremely loud and nearly every seat was taken and everybody seemed to be enjoying themself, families, couples and groups. I figured that was a good sign and it signaled to me that the food was probably good! At first, the host wanted me to sit at the bar, which I politely declined because I don't usually sit at bars, also, I was there to eat, not pick up somebody! I noticed a small table open, pointed it out, and he kindly let me take it. No 'tude either! As far as my server goes, she was efficient, friendly, and very helpful with recommendations since it was my first visit and probably because I didn't look like the other customers who were more familiar with the cuisine. She suggested the pot stickers over the hot and sour soup, and the beef Chow Fun instead of chicken Chow Fun. The pot stickers were a little small, but crispy and very tasty. I also asked for some sweet and sour sauce on the side which I'm glad I did because it paired nicely with the pot stickers instead of that plain vinegar sauce they usually serve you. For my main dish, I ordered the char-grilled beef Chow Fun. The portion size was more than generous, and the char-grilled beef had a great umami flavor. A few of the rice noodles were a bit firm, likely undercooked, but overall though it was quite enjoyable. What I appreciated the most about Shang Noodle was the value. $18 for the beef Chow Fun and $9 for the pot stickers felt reasonable to me, considering it was on the dinner menu, the portion sizes were humongous and the restaurant was located on the Near North Side, which is usually quite pricey. I'll definitely be back, though next time I may try lunch instead, or go with friends of mine.

Shang Noodle is a gem! Got the combo chow mein and it was delicious, great flavor and a generous portion size. The service was excellent too. We showed up on a Saturday night without a reservation and they squeezed the three of us in at the bar, which we really appreciated. It's the kind of meal I'm already looking forward to having again. If you're craving delicious noodles and solid service, Shang Noodle delivers!

Awesome takeout spot for authentic Chinese food! The dishes were so tasty and the spices were great. The mapo tofu with pork with some fresh steamed white rice was delish on a cold winter day. Everything was portioned out great. We had leftovers. The noodles were all so tender and the kung pao took the win home with the peanuts. Great spot great food. Highly recommend

The hottest dish that came out where the shrimp spring rolls. Can't go wrong with those to be honest. Again, like I said, maybe their dinner is better. Tucked into a no-frills corner on the South Side, Dai Yee's looks modest from the outside, but step in after 10 p.m. and it's pure magic. The room is packed with everybody--sneakerheads, nurses coming off shift, club kids, cops, and couples on first dates who somehow heard the legend. The vibe is chaotic in the best way: woks roaring, orders flying, and that unmistakable perfume of sizzling garlic, ginger, and chili filling the air. The food is straight-up stupid good. The Hong Kong-style salt & pepper smelts are crackly, spicy, and gone in 30 seconds. The beef chow fun has that elusive wok hei (breath of the wok) that most places only dream of, wide rice noodles slick with smoky char and tender flank steak. The black pepper beef tenderloin is velvet-soft, glossy, and aggressively peppery in a way that makes you order extra rice just to survive the happiness. The Singapore noodles are bright curry perfection, and the Mongolian beef is saucy, crispy-edged, and borderline addictive. Portions are straight out of the 90s--massive trays that could feed a family of four for under $15. Cash-only, BYOB, and everything comes out blazing hot in under ten minutes even when the place is slammed. Rarely see 2 pieces being offered especially for double the price. We ordered their Jiaozi, Char Sui Bao, crab Rangoon, chilly chilli noodles, and their Xiang long Bao. All were great. The chilly chilli noodles is served cold and was very flavorful. The Xiang Kong Bao was amazing. The potstickers was probably my favorite dish and it's mess up char Sui Bao.
