Another Triple DDD recommended spot in the area that I'd been looking forward to for yours. The brilliance with using stuffing as a waffle with turkey potatoes and gravy is a Thanksgiving type meal gift right up my alley. It was so freakin good!! The portions did not skimp either. I had to try a taste of the chicken tenders and that was just as delicious as my meal. The tenders are crispy and flavorful with lots of dipping options. I have been wanting to try this place out for a long time. Never knew I was going to be in this area, but I had it on a list of places to try. I had seen it on Diners, Drive Ins, & Dives, I also saw the guys on Guy's Grocery Games, and I had a friend I formerly worked with that visited and raved about the food. Now I can say that I got the chance to try one of the waffles. I showed up after lunchtime and found the place nearly empty. I translated that to quick service and stellar experience. I had looked online before coming here but I still gave the menu a once over when I got to the place. I did this all at the counter and wouldn't you know it, someone walked in as I was looking at the menu. I ordered the Jive Turkey and an order of their Disco Fries. After ordering, I got my drink, was given a pager and told I could sit wherever I wanted. In time my buzzer would go off and I would just need to come grab my food. Pager went off, I go up and grab my food. Grabbed silverware and went to the table. I went back to grab napkins as well. Let's start with the fries. Disco Fries: fries, mashed potatoes, gravy, and bacon. I know, potatoes on potatoes, seems a bit overkill, but it was delicious. What pulls it all together is the gravy. I finished this while sitting there. No so lucky with the main course. Jive Turkey: stuffing waffle topped with mashed potatoes, smoked turkey, gravy, with cranberry sauce on the side. You can get this in quarter, half or whole. I went with whole, I shouldn't have, but I wanted to. I did end up taking what I didn't eat back with me, but when I dug into this, man...so good. Turkey day meal in a unique presentation. I made sure each bite I took had a bit of the cranberry sauce on it. Get the whole flavor experience in each bite. Totally a meal I could see myself getting each time I would visit here. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of great options, but I could see myself getting this over and over again. Love the concept of funky fusion waffles. The music was great. The cooks were friendly and the food was good. The service was interesting in that you seat yourself, head to the counter to order, and then pick up your food when it's ready. The location looks like maybe it's a bar or a club after hours, artwork on the walls was intriguing and definitely true to the heart of Syracuse. The menu was probably my favorite part, the names were so funny and clever. I ordered Carry On My Wayward Spud, a waffle filled with potato and bacon served with chives and sour cream. It was incredible. Just based on the menu, you're able to order whole waffles or half waffles, I opted for half, thinking a whole would be too much food. I was surprised to see alcoholic drinks on the menu, also with clever names, I got Cold Sweat. I first heard of Funk-n-Waffles from a friend who used to visit this place often. Years later, this place was featured on Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives. About a decade later, we finally made it to visit, and I wish we have been here sooner. The service was great, the food was good, and so was the ambiance. I ordered a chicken and waffles, something I've ordered from many places. This was surely the best chicken and waffles I've had. Our party had the strawberry and banana, jive turkey, the special corn dog waffle for my kids and I got the florentine. I asked for a side of salsa which they didn't have but instead offered what they use for the topping of the falafel waffle. I think there was a miscommunication in my favor because instead of a little cup of chopped peppers and cucumbers with tahini for my waffle I basically got a nice fresh side salad. Just came in for a late dinner & 2 out of 4 of us got mistakes on the food. I understand things happen but first mistake was big as they gave a vegan order turkey bacon & had regular cheese on the tofu. Then when approached about it one person said it was vegan bacon, just for the chef to assure it was not. That's dangerous in the fact that this person specified they are vegan. After that the chefs started swearing at the front of house staff he then threw the mistaken plate to where it fell on the ground. The other cook was incredibly rude putting her hand in her coworkers face and telling them to get it together. We were instantly uncomfortable as that's aggressive behavior. Even if it's frustrating that is not ok to do to other co workers or in front of customers. Front of house did a really good job of keep composure with customers. I love the place, but we had a very poor experience with one of the female staff. We arrived 20 or so minutes before closing and another staff member told us that we could stay for a little bit while they cleaned up (I believe he was the owner). After we got our food, I went over to get some sauces and the female staff became very rude and aggressive. She raised her voice and said, "you guys need to leave". I work in the service industry as well, and I understand it was right at closing time, but there is no reason to speak to paying customers with such a harsh tone. The Funk-n-Waffles food truck was at the Full Boar Craft Brewery anniversary event...and...wow! The food was delicious!! I had the Disco 'Stu which was amazing and I ate the whole thing. I like food trucks that are making the items to order and are able to give you a pager. I know that's an extra cost to the truck owner, but it's really helpful. And likely better for the food truck staff since they don't have food standing around and staring. I'd not seen this food truck before and I'm looking forward to seeing it again. read more

The service is cafeteria style, you pay at the counter and pick up your order when it's ready. Went to the jazz brunch on Sunday and it was fun. The musicians were great. Fun jazzin atmosphere. The place is a bit grunge but I think it's the appeal. The chicken and waffles were great. Chicken could use some more seasoning but the waffle was perfectly flavorful and soft and crispy at the same time. I ordered the half order and it was just the perfect amount of food. I was extremely disappointed with my recent experience at Funk 'n Waffles. I placed a company lunch order and called the restaurant when the delivery was scheduled to arrive much earlier than expected and scheduled. I reached out to simply inform them, since I knew food prep had likely already begun. After a short conversation, the employee who answered told me it was "between me and DoorDash" and then hung up on me. Then, I cancelled the original order on DoorDash. When I re-ordered through DoorDash a few hours later, the same employee called back, this time claiming to be the manager. She asked if I wanted anything from the original order, which had been sitting for over two hours. When I clarified why that wouldn't work and asked for her first name, she repeatedly refused. As I tried to explain "I am the customer asking for your first name as an employee", she cut me off mid-sentence and said "well, at this establishment, the customer isn't always right". The tone felt very combative, and it felt like she was trying to escalate the situation, not resolve it. The level of unprofessionalism was extremely concerning. She then offered to include part of the old order for free with the new one, stating she "was doing me a big favor". I declined, and she hung up on me a second time. At that point, I cancelled our entire order. My coworkers were also shocked at how dismissive the interaction was. I'm sharing this so management is aware of how customers are spoken to and how these interactions impact business. Our team and I will not be returning in the future. read more

Remember, you're here for a good time, not a long time - so don't concern yourself with the mundane and just be in the present with family and friends. While you're at it, relish in the combination of the sweet and savory found at Funk 'n Waffles. Some quick tips: - There are two entrances (by design). During "normal" operating hours, it is a order-and-seat yourself venue. The ordering line is best accessed from the door on the right (the proper door that's actually under the business sign) when facing the establishment. Big thanks to another patron that told us when we were standing around waiting for a host. - Parking. There are plenty of parking options around. There is a private lot directly across the street from the venue, as well as street parking around the block. With that being said, you have to pay regardless of the option you choose. We came Sunday morning (between 9 and 10 a.m.) and found out that there was ample street parking that did not charge. - Don't be quick to dump the container of sauce on the waffles. I made the mistake of emptying the contents onto the waffles only to discover that the sauce was a spicy-honey mixture better served with the chicken. Each table has syrup. - You will need more than 6-wings. Trust. During the last day of visit to Syracuse, my brother recommended Funk 'n Waffles for brunch before I hit the road. In hindsight, it was perhaps the best choice. Nested in the concrete jungle expanse of the Syracuse downtown, Funk 'n Waffles was rather easy to get to during the quiet weekend. We entered the establishment through the left door and was met with a roomy dining area with round tables, with a decent sized stage designed for music venues. I quickly realized that Funk 'n Waffles is more than just a local food establishment, providing for the local community in other aspects. Walking to the other half of the building, we were met with the typical seating arrangements of local eatery. The seemingly theme-less interior matched the laissez-faire vibes and energy of the staff. The staff were friendly and helpful, while at the same time went about their business in a sort of "it'll-happen-when-it-happens" type of manner. It was super chill, and oddly refreshing to see this, especially when everything else is all about the hustle and bustle. With that being said, the food did take a moment to make. However, I assure you that it is worth the wait. While the waffles didn't warrant spectacular rave, the chicken was made to perfection. With the chicken wings/tenders pulling 80s in this sweet and savory relationship, the combination works wonders in bedazzling the taste buds. Don't let the appearance of the wings and tenders fool you. The piping hot wings had the perfect crunchy fried exterior which encases the succulent meat. I only wish that the chicken wings were bigger - 6 wings will not be enough. However, I imagine that the size of the wings factor into the flavor ratio so that each bite is packed with the rich taste of the spice rub of the wing. There are also plenty of other waffle varieties if you feel a bit more adventurous. From what my brother ate, I will go on a limb and say that you won't be disappointed with those either. Came here for sweet and savory, they had a band next door getting ready, so we got to experience both! We both got Lattes, I got mine with oat milk, I definitely tasted the oat milk so I'm glad they used it. I got the crepe expectations with added peanut butter and syrup, whole-waffle. My friend got chicken and waffles half-waffle. It took quite a while to get our order, but we were just listening to the band play while we wait. When our food came, my order didn't have peanut butter or syrup on it. I was told they don't put peanut butter on them, that I have to do it myself, and he handed me 2 peanut butter packets... $1.49 for little peanut butter packets.. it wasn't bad though, the waffles were a little on the thin side, not too fluffy. I didn't try the chicken, I was too stuffed with the whole waffle I got. It was A LOT! All-in-all I'd try this place again, maybe go savory next time. These are some of the most creative waffles I've ever had. I love that the sweet and savory options are separated, and the portion size was great. I had the Earth Wind and Fire and it was delicious. I ended up eating half in restaurant and the other half the next day. My husband opted for the July special, a waffle with peach topping and honey granola that he enjoyed and finished all of it in one sitting. The drink menu is equally impressive as you can customize your coffee or milk shake. The service was speedy considering we went on a Saturday morning and there were barely any tables empty. Absolutely had to come back for brunch today--funky atmosphere, friendly staff, fantastic food. This is another place I visited while on my brief road trip to Syracuse New York, and it was a place that Guy Fieri had shown on DDD, so I had to give it a try. On entering the restaurant, you definitely get the funky vibe - cool decor, great music in the background, and some great smells from the kitchen. The place was not super busy (I got there around 9:30 am), and food came out pretty quickly, and it was delicious! Everyone loved the waffle they picked out, NUM! The strawberries were fresh in the Star Child, the potatoes were seasoned perfectly in the Classic Brekki, but the sausage was Italian, not the typical breakfast sausage, so no one cared to eat that. The pulled pork was saucy and delish! The James Brownie is definitely a tasty sweet treat, the banana waffle was savory with great texture and the Bootsy brunch was like a scrumptious breakfast sandwich.
