Came here on my mom's recommendation. I always pass by when I'm here on vacation. I walk in and it has an old school TGIF vibe to it but in a good way when it was hopping. I ordered the steak tips and my friend ordered the fish and chips. My steak tips were delicious and had melted in your mouth. The flavor was on point and the rice pilaf was really good. No mush here. My friend's fish and chips were good as well not greasy and had that good crunch. The waitress was very good and checked on us often to see if we needed anything. This a a warm and welcoming local spot to love. Hearty favorites...great portions...easy on the wallet. I was hungry for something other than fast food at 11:30 PM. This place fit the bill and mozzarella sticks were great. They weren't the cheap nasty ones you normally find, and a generous portion of Parmesan cheese on top. I also ordered the shrimp basket which their house sauce was pretty awesome That came with french fries which were pretty good overall 4.5. I just rounded it up.! Both bartenders were attentive! Went in for lunch for the first time. It was a moderate crowd. The food was just okay. We (myself *petite female* and my husband) sat at the bar and had 2 servers "walk" into me. This gave me the impression that I was too close to where they entered the bar area, I moved my seat the first time it happened. Picked up the stool and slid it over, around 2 feet from the original seat. It happens again! Not a coincidence! If I was seated too close to where they needed to get by then they should have said so and we would have moved to a table. It's just that simple. I was bullied by the waitstaff. Funky murphys has had a long rep of being a little crappy. But for a 5.99 burger, i have lowered my standards. We'll now they require a beverage purchase to get the deal. Well i might as well get a burger anywhere else if my final bill is 15 anyway with tip. Do you want continued business, or do you want to scrape every last cent out of someone. Absolutely despicable. The way they speak to and treat their guests is horrendous. The so called manager has no hospitality and speaks poorly of the ready to pay customers in front of them. I've had a few meals here with friends over the last couple of months, it seems to have improved quite a bit from pre-pandemic times. Clam chowder: Biggest bowl I've ever seen, about the diameter of a frisbee. The chowder was good, not too thin, but not so thick your spoon stands up. Prime rib sandwich special: Only ok. The meat was overly salty and a bit on the gray side, but the fries were great. Captain's platter special: Excellent. A really good portion (as a previous reviewer wrote, it's big enough to take some home) of perfectly fried seafood. Super tasty. Service has been good each time. read more

Not sure why the low ratings... stopped in for dinner on a Tuesday, Prime Rib was on special for $12.99.. Though it was hard, I did pass it up, I promised myself i would eat seafood every meal while I was in town. So I started with the chowda, big cup for $5, solid as hell, much better than the sole fish house in Worcester. Had the captains fried seafood platter for dinner, couldn't even finish everything, which was a damn shame because everything was fried to perfection, juicy scallops.. creamy delicate clam strips.. and the shrimp and fish was just as good. Oh.. and they pour a perfect Guinness as well. Just a barebones neighborhood bar that is unpretentious and approachable. Definitely will be coming back when in town again read more

Came here to watch the Patriots game on a Sunday afternoon. To my surprise, they were serving 10 cents wings (up to 10 per person with an order of drinks). Also a special on hard shell taco but forgot the price. I went with half buffalo/half BBQ wings, seafood pasta, mini burgers and regular burger. We ordered too much food since we took plenty home. There were 4 mini burgers - beef patties were overcooked and tough but my toddler didn't care. I would have tossed them. Saucy chicken wings were cooked perfectly - juicy and a tiny kick to them. Love the seafood pasta - chef did not overcook the seafood (very easy to do with shrimp and salmon) and was loaded with sauce and scallops. Nice and attentive staff. read more

One of the few affordable restaurants in this area. The food is excellent. Try the Caesar Salad with blackened salmon or the Chicken Napoli or Seafood Scampi. We mostly go there for takeout, but it is a certainly a pleasant place to dine in. Highly recommended unless you like paying twice the price for inferior food. read more

Pre Covid-19 review. Loud due to the music speaker, not ambiance. To the point that I really could not hear my waitress, nor wife across the table. Food taste wise was, okay, nothing to write home about. Unfortunately it sat like a brick in our stomachs for the remainder of the night. Hard to pick stars for this Sometimes the food is a solid 5 and other times it's a 1 Dining in the service is a 2. Every single time I have been to eat I we sit for way to long before anyone comes to take our order. Then when we do get our food they never come back so we go without drinks(except, now we order 2 at a time) Take out. EVERY single time they forget something Tonight I got a pretty big take out order. The combo was suppose to have boneless buffalo chicken (I got 2 combo platters). Well the chicken was plain. I called and they told me to bring it back in and they would toss them in sauce!! Then she said "sorry it sucks the order was wrong but that's all we can do". What you can do. Is get it right!! Atmosphere was crap. Service was crap. The place was filthy. It was like dueling banjos between multiple out of sync TVs playing the same sporting event way too loudly, mediocre live music, and drunk hooligans falling over sauced at the table next to us. I had asked our server a question about a liquor they carried, for allergy reasons, she came back to the table twice with no answer, and no acknowledgment that I had asked. I asked if they had it before I ordered my cocktail (it's quite popular to boot) I hadn't asked for a comprehensive profile on its allergen content or anything, I already know that it's safe. At one point she asked me if I would like 'another' drink and I didn't hold back reminding her that she hasn't even successfully taken my first drink ORDER never mind delivered the beverage while the table beside us had been over served quite successfully. The bartenders (3 I counted hanging out back there) couldn't make a standard cocktail between them and no attempt was even made to look it up so another in our party ordered a beer and when it came out visually flat and a complaint was made the server made no attempt to remedy. The bathrooms are cringeworthy, the floors are sticky, the bar is sticky, the glasses are cloudy. We haven't been back; I don't recommend it to anyone. read more

Some of the wait staff are rude and racist towards even their most loyal, longtime customers. My boyfriend and I go here all the time, often multiple times per week. However, I'm not sure if we will anymore after an experience with a rude waitress. As a back story, we usually bring bottled water here because we sometimes order spicy wings and there's a particular waitress that's inattentive and doesn't refill water. (Her name is Catie (Catherine) Horganshea, she looks in her 20s, and has light blond hair in a ponytail) Additionally, my boyfriend has a condition where he needs water or he might faint. Waiters have told us it's fine to bring our own water, so we continued this for a long time. Today, my boyfriend and I arrived, were seated at a table. Unfortunately it was the particular blond waitress that doesn't refill water, but fortunately, we had our our sealed, full water bottles. We ordered drinks including beer. Immediately, without a greeting, she snapped aggressively, "You can't have those, You can't bring water. You need to throw those out." Despite her rude tone, we explained calmly that they were full, sealed, and they my boyfriend has a health condition. We also mentioned that the owners said it was okay, because they're served us before and they said it was okay. We said we could just place them elsewhere and get them after if they wanted. She only snapped back rudely. We asked if we could talk to the manager. She appeared and was also very rude and accused us of bringing vodka in water bottles. We're both young successful professionals, and it was insulting and humiliating that she treated us like criminals. She has black hair and her name is Gina O'Toole. We said she could smell the water if she wants, to which she said "I don't want to smell your water. You can throw them out or leave." So we left and went to Welly's Restaurant next door. We told them the story and a group of staff overheard, and found it ridiculous and empathized with us, and said we and our waters are welcome at Welly's instead. I'm white and my boyfriend is Mexican. I've never had a waitress speak so rudely. I've witnessed this particular blond waitress speak nicely to parties of white people, greeting them warmly and smiling/laughing with them. However, for some reason, she's always had an attitude with my boyfriend and I, who are very nice and tip well. Other friends and family I know who are people of color have also described this waitress as cold and rude to them as well. I'm very convinced that racism is a motivating factor in this. My family and I went here for brunch one Sunday mid morning. Walked into several tables still dirty from parties gone. (These tables stayed dirty the whole time we were there, along with a bus tub full of dishes left on the floor beside a table)We waited at the entrance and we hollered at from a server across the room to seat ourselves, a sign would have been nice rather than the awkward waiting and yelling across the dining room. We sat in a booth and a man came over to get our drink orders, he never introduced himself and really seemed like he didn't want to be there. I took my first child to get food at the buffet. NO PLATES. The restaurant was less than 1/2 full and the is no plates ! Unacceptable! They brought some out, but they were crazy hot. I had to grab a stack of cocktail napkins from the bar to be able to hold the plate. Food was ok, but nothing to write home about. Eggs Benedict was surprisingly good, and still had runny yolks. Pancakes were fluffy, but anemic in color and way too big for a buffet. Many parts like the toast / bagels and toaster set up looked like they were a total after thought. Plastic storage totes full of sliced bread and croissants, not good presentation. I had to ask for cream and sugar for my coffee. How do you not have sugar packets on the table during a breakfast / brunch service. And was never once offered a refill, server was very unattentive to our table. Cheesecake was still half frozen in the middle. The best part was when the bill came. We atte charged full price (plus drinks) for the kids. I paid $9.95 plus a $3 milk for my 6 year old. I can not say enough good words to describe Tanya! My family came in on Sunday (6-9-19) after a terrible day. She gave my family condolences and then set about to make everyone laugh and laugh! She made comment on saying she felt lucky to have met my mother in previous visits. Her service and her infectious personality is exactly what my family needed! As a bartender who worked open to close today , I was beyond thrilled to find a bar that would still be open by the time I could make it there after closing my own restaurant. We closed our bar as fast as we possibly could for the sole purpose of making it to funky murph/ in time, which we did . They close at 2, so reasonably they would do last call and close the doors at 1:45. We walked up at 1:15; very glad we were gonna get the chance to have a drink and chill for once. There was one girl ahead of us in line. The bouncer told her that they weren't letting any new guests in (which was confusing for us because restaurants never close their doors 45 minutes before closing) but after three different attempts at her story, they let her in. We get to the door and are told no one is getting in. As bartenders we fully understand when it's closing time and wanting to go home. But it wasn't. He told us if we could name drop any bartenders then he would let us in. Interacted with both the bouncer and the manager. We went to this place last night and what a huge mistake it was! One star is way too much for funky Murphys. We had to request napkins, was never given any silverware. After the meal came, not one of the three different servers we had checked to see if we needed anything or how it was. When the bland meal was done, they never gave us a check only took the card from the table and ran the bill we never knew how much we were being charged until we were signing for the check. This is one of my favorite spots in Marlborough. They carry some awesome beer (Wormtown, Jack's Abbey, Greenhead), the food is great (plus some yummy specials each week), and the staff is FANTASTIC. You'll feel taken care of at the bar, for sure. Every bartender is attentive, fun, and awesome at their job. As a sports fan and a beer lover, this is one of the better things to have happened to Marlborough in a while. Zero complaints here. read more

Falling fast. Went in saturday p.m. sat at the bar with my wife and 2 friends. Bartender comes over "what are you drinking" my initial response is hi, how are you tonight.. good he says, what are you drinking... There were 3 bar tenders, 2 could not keep their eyes off college football. The other is rude. The idea of bar tending is to draw the people in, be friendly, be polite, be personable. Not a great visit to say the least. Very slow and non attentive with football on. Not busy either, im very patient when i know someone is behind and busy. These 3 had no interest. Food qas ok. Steak over cooked- went back. Fish tacos were great. This place needs bar rescue. Great space, great location, good food, absolutely no management. I live down the street and the few times I've been I've been ignored for at least 30 min each time.
