Amazing meal with fantastic service! I enjoyed the baked seafood with lobster sauce. Generous portion of fish, scallops, shrimp in a velvety lobster sauce. The garlic mashed reminded me home made. As I am not a fan of green beans, I had a salad prior to my meal, explaining the whiteness of the entree. Michelle at the bar is always cheerful and on her game. Very attentive to everyone's needs even when busy. She is very fluent with the menus and the specials and always in earshot if in need As with most older establishments, the personality of "The Other Place" is warm and cozy. Since Mr. Shaughnessy passed this old school pub has gone from being a reliably good place for pub and comfort food to an embarrassing shell of itself. How would anyone send out a plate of steak tips that were supposedly medium rare which were absolutely tiny and so well done they could pass for beef jerky bits? So no more popcorn, no more open steak sandwich and no more cheese and crackers unless you order them. If Yelp had a less than 1 option this place would get it. read more

My lovely wife and I decided to try this place again after a 20 year or so break. The inside appears to be the same as I recall it - wood lined walls, pub theme wall decorations, medium sized but elbow-to-elbow packed bar, and a wooden half wall separating the dining room. Kind of dingy and dated but not too bad. We decided on a small high top table next to the bar. A waitress was at our table within a couple of minutes to greet us, provide menus, and take drink orders. We started with a small order of boneless buffalo wings. The order was a larger than what we expected a small order to be. They were very good and had a good but not too hot (for my wife) buffalo sauce and a very light spiced breading. We didn't want to spoil our appetite so we took half the order home. We both ordered from the Specials menu. My lovely wife had the fish tacos and I ordered the kielbasa dinner. Both orders came out piping hot in a reasonable amount of time and AFTER we were done with the appetizer - which seems to be a 50/50 shot at most places these days in our experience. My wonderful wife said the amount of fish in each taco was a good amount and she really liked the mango salsa topping. The fish tacos came with fries. The kielbasa in my meal was grilled perfectly and I enjoyed the "German" sliced potatoes with bacon and the red cabbage. The kielbasa was atop two slices of pumpernickel bread. All in all a good meal and I'm glad we decided to try The Other Place Pub again after two decades. We will try to keep it in mind for another visit or two this year. read more

AMAZING!!!!! We've been coming here for years and it literally never disappoints! First off it's always packed but we still manage to find seats at the bar. Staff & patrons alike are very friendly & welcoming. A good mix between regulars & newbies. They always have beer on tap that we like. Aren't too pushy to roll customers over. They are awesome! The food is always out of this world! Reasonably priced, portions are huge, food comes out piping hot! I've had the prime rib, burgers, fish & today the steak tips in mushroom sauce. This is a weekly go to of mine as the food and service are solid. This venue is open Wednesday-Sunday (bummer it's not open 7 days a week) and doesn't open until 3 PM on Wednesday and Thursday. The place gets packed with regulars playing Keno, drinking, and eating so you might struggle getting a bar seat as the place gets packed some days and nights. I highly recommend checking out their FB page everyday for the posted specials. It's usually posted by 11 AM on the days they operate. For the most part, the specials don't change week to week. I highly recommend the Prime Rib, Ribeye, and Baby Back Ribs when they're available. The regular menu is quite extensive as well. The ladies working here are very attentive and friendly. I probably get food to go here about 3-4 days a week. The venue itself is cozy and there are no windows in the bar section so it's rather dark. It's a very popular place with good food and service and I highly recommend it. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. My husband and I asked everyone in line if the wanted bar seats all said No! I sat at the bar and was reprimanded and i women who arrived after us with a horrible cigarette voice and obviously a regular took our seats and the greeter (who was an angry man)was rude and gave her our seats. Went there on Sunday 4/23/2023. Waitress was very unfriendly. Was told vegetable was broccoli. Plate came with green beans that were ice cold and the mashed potatoes were hard as a baseball. Sent back dish to heat up came back Luke warm. The man running Keno was very rude to my mother. Yelling at her asking her if she thought running Keno was the only thing he did. We were looking for a quick bite after visiting Tower Hill and ended up checking this pub out. We were pleasantly surprised! Husband had a bacon cheeseburger which was quite large and lots of bacon, came with fries that looked homemade and were crispy and delicious ( I pilfered a few!). Found this place via Yelp, so "Thank You!" to the previous reviewers. I'd been through the area several times on rte 70, but had never turned off to this spot. Yelp-searched pubs in the area when a buddy and I were going to be passing through. Sounded good, and it was. It's decorated like an Irish pub but 'feels' more like a spots bar. Several TV's with a game on, and they have Keno to pass the time and 'support local communities'. I 'donated' ten bucks... Plenty of parking, nice interior, friendly staff. Excellent fish-and-chips. Decent selection of tap beers. They have Wachusetts Country Ale on tap, which I really like. Looking forward to returning and sampling other items on the menu. read more

I love this place ... and I am very picky! It is not gourmet food, for sure but in terms of a local place that serves good food at reasonable prices ... you won't get any better than this. They have been in the same location forever and have a big local following. It used to be a lot more crowded, but now you can actually get a table without a long wait most times. The prices are simply amazing here. The food is so good I think they depend on you ordering soup, salad, entree, beers and dessert which is where they make money. But, a burger here doesn't run you much more than $5 or $6. Most entrees are under $10. There is a big variety as well ... the menu isn't overwhelming but does offer a ton of options. There is traditional Irish Fare, Pub Food, and even some 'finer' dining options. Their French Onion Soup is among the best I've had at any pub. One dish I wholely endorse is the homemade mac and cheese with Buffalo Chicken. Its $6 plain or $10 with the buffalo chicken but the taste is great! Probably not the healthiest of foods but wow, it's good. The interior is fun ... its a very small Irish pub restaurant on one side (with small tables and booths and warm but cheesy 1980s shellacked wood paneling) and a big bar on the other side with tvs. Seems like as good a place as any to watch the Red Sox play. The beers on tap are pretty plentiful. Sure, this isn't fine dining by any stretch but in terms of a nice, little local pub where everyone is very friendly and the food is consistently good ... you won't find much better. This was an interesting place. It was small and packed the entire time we were there, could easily tell why!! Aesthetically speaking, it's a typical Irish Pub style restaurant. We ended up at the bar because it was so busy, which didn't love, but that's because my husband and I aren't really bar people and we just didn't want to wait for a table. So no fault to the restaurant. The only issue we really had with the seating was the wobbliness of both of our chairs. Sitting so high up in a wobbly chair is not comfortable (we are early 40s, so it's not an age or abilities thing either, the chairs sucked). The bartender was great. She was attentive, friendly, and quick. I had a Tito's peach iced tea which was not that great. It just tasted watered down, even though it wasn't (I could feel the alcohol half way through). I also had another cocktail, maybe called "it's almost summer" or something like that, which excellent! We started with fried pickles which were possible the best we've had in the area! Freshly battered with a nice thick and tasty batter. Absolutely loved them! Great portion for the price too. We both had specials, both pasta dishes, which were also excellent. The prices were a little high, but the portions were great, so no complaints from us. The funny thing about this place is its lack of Irish fare on the menu. Personally we loved the menu and have a number of things we would love to try, we just thought it was funny the restaurant screams "Irish Pub" but the food does the exact opposite. It was ok, not sure what all the hoopla is about. I ordered a bowl of clam chowder and the scallop dinner, scallops was good, typical fries but I never got my clam chowder. Not the same as it used to be when Bob shaunessey was alive and owned it.(R.I.P.) the atmosphere has changed since they got these high tables and chairs. The menu's changed quite a lot under new management mostly for the worst . The Other Place Pub succeeds in the places it needs to. Service isn't too much and it isn't too little. They provide a free bowl of popcorn and they take you order. You get what you ask for at the pub. You get a small pub with a bar sports and food. You can't expect a fancy experience because that's not what kinda restaurant the Other Place is. I ordered the boneless buffalo chicken wings with a side of fries and I was very pleased. The buffalo sauce gives a good taste and a heat that most people are able to handle. The fries aren't anything over the top, but they serve as a good side for chicken. Overall can say I was pleased and I would definitely go again. read more

Prices are very reasonable. Hubby had the meatloaf. We were a little baffled why the waitress asked if he wanted the senior portion or the regular size. He got the regular one. It was huge and made for leftovers. Open face style with bread in bottom, meatloaf, mashed potatoes, gravy and onion rings on top. It was very tall. Served with a side of veggies. He said it was great. I had the tuna melt. I hate when you get a cold tuna melt. Half of the goodness is warm tuna with melted goofy cheese. It was ok. The fries were homemade but on the undercooked side. If they want thick fries cook them longer so when you pick them up they stay straight and not break and flop. Went there Friday night to eat and sing with piano bar,we had large group and sat around the piano,there was no room for my sister at piano,so she went to sit at the bar and was immediately rudely told by the blonde bartender that she better not move the bar chair to piano, she had no intention of doing so,she just wanted to sit at bar.The piano man is very talented and had a great time on another visit,but this incident was tainted by a rude employee, I saw her attitude also when I went to bar to get a drink and talk to my sister, completely ignored me,if you are going to work in people business,then ACT NICE and professional,I wish I could of talked to her boss,too bad ,now we might not go again. read more

I gotta say. It was only by chance that my buddy and I went here (mainly in protest of the local "cash only" diners, which is hogwash) but we weren't disappointed. We had cheese sticks, I had the Philly cheesesteak with onions, peppers, and mushrooms, and my buddy had the Prime Rib French dip. We also had a Wachusett brew and a Harpoon IPA. I think the total bill was $42 and that was with a tip. The only real downside of this place was how long it took to get, what I would consider, relatively easy made food. That said - I wasn't in a hurry, and when we did get our food (it might've been 20-25 minutes) it was hot and fresh, which I'm DEFINITELY okay with. Overall, if you're looking for an awesome, low key, low price place, where some teenager is trying to shove some corny-named, overpriced, corporate appetizer down your throat, this is your place. read more

I'll first say I don't go here usually but I decided to check it out for it's St. Patty's fare. I have to say that it's not the cleanest but the atmosphere was great, complete with live band, our waitress was great, and the traditional corn beef and cabbage meal was delicious, and exactly what I wanted. It might not be for everyone, but the homemade mustard they hand make there was perfect with the corn beef. If you only go there one night a year. Our twin babies and 2.5 year old were in melt-down mode as we were driving home, pulled off the highway and decided to stop in for a late lunch. Another dining experience where I read the reviews afterwards and was surprised. The place is definitely a form of dive bar/pub with very old and boring decor. They had free popcorn and crackers with cheese which worked out great for calming down my older son. There was a bar on one side and a dining area on the other. Looked to be a bit of a local spot. The bathrooms were not accommodating for children, at least not the men's room. Despite the initial turn offs, I was extremely surprised at the food quality and price. Had all 5 of us in the back of the dining room for a late lunch early dinner so the place was hardly crowded, in fact it was rather empty (only 2 other tables in the dining room). Our waitress (Tess?!) did an excellent job. Ordered mozz sticks for appetizers - not fancy but they came out hot and fresh which is pretty much all you can ask for in them. I got bacon cheeseburger, ordered it medium and it was delicious and temperature was spot on, char broiled, crispy bacon. Amazing. Wife got haddock, which she like..
