Came here for a family dinner and will not come again. Food was ok, service was horrible. My beer was served flat and our appetizers were delivered with no plates meaning items got cold while we waited. Even the napkins were like a 1-ply toilet paper. The food took a long time to come out too. One table near us even left before their food got there because they had waited so long. Definitely better dining in the area. Consider going to golden lion instead. I had such high hopes for this places based on great experiences at its sister restaurants. read more

I don't like wasting my money and that's what happened. The crab cakes were 3 of the thinnest crabcakes if you can call them crabcakes, there wasn't any crab in them. The espresso martini tasted like coffee and no liquor. I've had an espresso martini there once before it was perfect, don't know what happened it's like they don't care?? We spend 6 months out of the year in Palm Coast and the Funky Pelican has always been our go to for the food and especially the Cosmos. So disappointed! - I ordered a cosmo which looked like it was mixed with dirty sink water. Should come with a thin slice of lime not a large cut. I mention to the bartender that a cosmo is generally pink in color so she adjusted the drink which only made it taste worst. What a shame, won't be back anytime soon read more

Love this place! Whenever I visit my parents I want to come here at least for their breakfasts. Service helpful and friendly, especially on a busy weekend! Food delicious! Our party had hamburgers, the grilled cheese (with delish ooey gooey melty cheesy deliciousness), queso fries, shrimp & lobster wrap, gator bites, and key lime pie! Very yummy! We stopped at the funky Pelican on our drive through Flagler Beach, FL. Such a cute area with several restaurants on the water. We selected the Funky Pelican after it was suggested to us through a family member. At 645 on Saturday night we were quoted a 45 minute wait, so we selected seats at the outdoor bar instead which ended up being great. They had a heat lamp set up so it wasnt chilly. Our bartender was very attentive. We ordered and it took a long time to receive our food, when we didnt order anything special, a few sandwiches and a salad. The food was just okay. Nothing to rant and rave about. The highlight here is being right on the ocean. It was peaceful to hear the waves crashing below us. There is something magical about being right on the water. I would come back if I was in the area and grab a cocktail. read more

Let's face it - this place makes a ton of money for their view. They have a bar and patio outside overlooking (and by overlooking, I mean on top of) Flagler Beach. It's absolutely gorgeous, and this view earned 2 of the 3 stars all by itself. Sadly, this means if you take away the view, it's a 1-star joint. The menu is fairly sub-standard beach shack fare - a bunch of sweet rum drinks and a decent beer list alongside fried fish sandwiches and appetizers. Nothing is very good - I've been here a few times to allow out-of-towners a chance to enjoy the patio. I've tried the gator bites, chicken wings, the obligatory fried fish sandwich, and some other items that were not memorable. It seems as though ownership is content to bring in tourist dollars based on the view...which I get, but am saddened by. There is an opportunity to use the location to be a truly remarkable restaurant, rather than what it is - a nice place to sit and avoid eating. read more

Stranges place. One time I get the best fish sandwich and fries I have ever eaten and the next time I get the worst fish sandwich and fries I have ever eaten. Go figure. The good was great. The bad part was how I watched my server go table to table numerous times checking on everyone but my table. I always make excuses for waitresses but this was absolutely intentional. I had to get up and chase her with our empty glasses. She always didn't put in our app order and came back and said, "oh my bad did you still want it?" duh it's been 15 mins of course we still want it. Set adjacent to the FBP what a recipe for success, I can't say anything about the interior because it's just a place to pass through to get to the outdoor bar. What a view the pier, the ocean, the beach, great cocktails and ice cold beer. I've never eaten here but the food looks great looking through the bottom of my glass. Great little bar on the deck staffed with friendly bartenders who are always busy mixing up refreshments. Definitely worth your time even if it just for one cold one as was the case today it's a short drive so I'll return frequently. read more

A few weeks ago we stopped for breakfast while passing through. We were visiting beach bars along the coast and came upon this little gem! Unfortunately the town pier was destroyed in last years hurricane, but the restaurant deck is repaired and in a great location, elevated over the beach! I ordered the massive Bloody Mary, the one with the meal in the glass. This thing was big. Shrimp, and well, a "farm" of vegetables on top! Definitely a must do! I also had the shrimp and grits! A large bowl. More than I could eat especially after the huge cocktail! But it was delicious! After on our way out my wife bought a souvenir shirt and the gentleman that checked us out showed us around. The nautical history that is built into the place. Portholes, types of wood, lanterns, and the bar. The bar has a mural on top with several pelicans hidden it. I bet people come from all around just find them on the bar too! Take the to drive up from Daytona and visit this place. The town needs your sales tax to fund rebuilding the pier. The food and atmosphere is great! Reminds me of a smaller early 70's Cocoa beach. We stopped here on our way from St Augustine to Ormond Beach. It was a dark, windy, moonlight night so outdoor seating sadly was not ok for us. They were busy and understaffed. But we were still seated quickly. Our server indicated she was new but would do her best. And? She was the best. Shout out to Deja. She got answers if she didn't know them and was attentive despite being busy. My New England clam chowder was sublime and I'm tough to please due to frequent visits to New England. I had shrimp tacos. The shrimp was fresh and flavorful but the toppings unremarkable. Their coleslaw is different and delicious. We got desserts to go - Florida Sunshine cake was ok, more sweet than orange but Key lime pie outstanding. All in all a good meal and great service. Will be back next time in the area. read more

I was meeting a friend for lunch planed on an appetizer, cocktails and lunch for us both. I got there at 12:08 and was seated At a table for 2 on the patio.... IN THE FULL SUN 2 women next to me, in the shade left, so I Moved to their table. At 12:25 I asked for a waitress The hostess comes out and says "You need to go back to the host stand because you changed tables." mind you the patio is empty there's tons of empty two, four and six tops. I said "I have skin cancer so no, I am sitting here and I'm waiting for my friend and I'd like a waitress please"she said "well unless you're going to wait on yourself you'll be sitting here a long time" SHE STILL HASNT SENT OVER A WAITRESS at 12:30, I got up and ordered myself a club soda from the bar. At this point another worker came up to me and said I needed to go to the hostess stand.... Exactly the same comments. I again explained my situation and she said "But that's not how it's done! I'm not going to argue with you!" And walked away. We didn't see a waitress until 12:44! By that time my appetite was ruined So my friend had a piece of fish (that was dry and over cooked) and some broccoli. I ordered nothing. So what would have been a fun lunch and a $80. To $100. Stopped here for lunch with the girls. We were seated right away (for the inside) and our waitress, Sue, was friendly and efficient. My sister had the cheeseburger, and she said it was just OK, but the maple bourbon salmon was wonderful, and my mom's fish sandwich was gigantic and tasty! My step son is partial to the Maddie shrimp an grits which he swears is the best lol. I have to say it's all good. The fish tacos are great as well as the chicken tenderloins. The Ruebens are good an the fish an fries as well. I don't think you can wrong with anything. The have Great drink specials daily from 4 to 6 PM including all well drinks and beer. The service is great as well they are always coming back an filling up your glasses. There is no better place to be on a Sunday morning than on the ocean at The Funky Pelican. The shrimp and grits were delicious, perfectly cooked and the Cajun Cream Sauce was beautifully balanced. It's upsetting because this restaurant has one of the best locations/views in all of Flagler beach but everything else about the place is mediocre at best. The service could be much better, especially with the rude and unfriendly highschooler host up front. We got the wings and after we tasted them we didn't want to order anything else. The food is flavorless and not worth the money at all, also the key lime pie is especially not worth it. The drinks were also not strong at all and watered down. It's a shame because this place has so much potential, the only thing keeping this place alive is the view. Any local I know in Flagler beach says the food has no quality here, they all prefer turtle shack or Finn's across the street. read more
