Went here for the first time on my most recent trip, I loved it. I recommend sitting outside on the pier/deck and getting a frozen virgin(or not) drink. The highlights from our table order were the Twisted Shrimp and the Onion Rings, the sauce that both of these come with is life changing. This is a tough review to write, because we really love this place. So, we'll probably be back. But, I just felt impelled to retell a few of our experiences here. We, literally ,bring everyone that comes to visit us to this place, and have had great experiences, too. First mark against. I went to the bar, that wasn't busy, with 5 of their tumblers I bought at the entrance, and ordered 5 top shelf margaritas. After 20 minutes of her continuing to make drinks for the servers that came up, and her telling me, in so many words, their drinks were more important I was finally asked by her what I wanted. So, I ordered again. After that every thing was great! Even my tip! Next experience. We walked in the door at around 755pm, and start to head back to the deck bar which had customers. We are getting strange looks by staff, and they ask us how we got in? "Was the door unlocked?" I replied, it's only 8. With a stern tone she said, "Last call was 15 minutes ago!" They walked us out. I was stunned! It was still light out! 3rd experience, and most upsetting. Went in around 720, party of 5. Behind us were two other decent sized groups that put their names in to have dinner, also. Host took our number, said it'd be about 30 minutes. So we went to walk the pier. 30 minutes later they call, and say they can't seat us. We're starving! We walk to the front door. It's locked. People are inside at the bar, and at the deck bar. Call me confused or crazy, but is this your regular routine? If so, you may want to reconsider your policy, or maybe you just don't give a damn. We'll check back in soon to see if anything has changed. Hosts are nice. Food is great! Drinks are really good! No problem with any servers. I guess that leaves management. read more

Right on the water in Flagler Beach. The food and service were great. The building itself, showing a little wear, needs a bit of a renovation. We had 8 in our party with a nearly full restaurant and were taken care of promptly, never without food or drinks. I got the ribeye steak, cooked perfectly with great flavor. Got off the plane in JAX at 6:45 PM and was on the road by 7:30. Got to the Funky Pelican about 8:55 and they closed the doos around 9;15. Brianne, our server, was friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and FUN. I had shrimp and grits and a glass of Chilean Pinot Noir. The shrimp were perfect, I like my grits a little looser but hey it WAS 9pm. And the Pinot was a little fruit forward for me but... The music was great, the service was great and the food was quite tasty. I will do it all over again on my next trip to Palm Coast. read more

Funky Pelican is a huge improvement from the previous Pier restaurant that was here prior. The location is in such a good spot for viewing the ocean and enjoying Flagler Beach. They have dining inside and also outside for those who want to be out by the ocean and wind. The service was excellent with our server checking on us from time to time and making sure we didn't need anything else. As for the food I got the Fish Mac which is a big mac with fried fish instead of hamburger. Let me tell you it is pretty hard to get a good fried fish in this area but this was cooked perfectly with the fish actually crispy and not soggy like most places around here. My wife got the classic cheeseburger which was also cooked properly and nice and hot. My only complaint was that beer was priced right but my wife's mimosa was a little up their at $8 where my beer was only $6 and I got way more to drink than hers. Funky Pelican is definitely the top place to eat in Flagler and I hope to see it as the #1 in the furture. read more

This restaurant was highly recommended by a friend, and we were not disappointed. The calamari appetizer was excellent, with the addition of breaded red peppers a pleasant surprise. I had the Shrimp and Grits, and it was delish. My husband had the Jambalaya and it was spicy and tasty. The portions on everything were large and food quality was excellent. We stumbled upon the Funky Pelican and loved it. It was nighttime so we couldn't exactly see the ocean but could definitely hear it. We ordered the Jambalaya and Mahi Tacos and both e were excellent. Started out our brunch greeted by a snobby hostess. Then when we were seated we waited at least 10 minutes and finally had to get up and ask for a waitress. Breathtaking view from the pier coupled with a prime piece of Flagler real estate can't even save Funky Pelican's abysmal drink list, lackluster service, and the saddest excuse of a "mixed vegetable" side ever in existence (and most are pretty sad in that category). The gator bites my brother and his girlfriend ordered as our table's appetizer were the best part of the meal. The remoulade was tart from lemon and tangy from the horseradish. And when in Rome, or in Florida...eat gator! The texture of the fried nuggets is a tad chewy and tough but nothing unpleasant. The drink menu made me already have to be sick from just glancing at it. They, the Funky Pelican, likes to think of itself as a rum specializing bar program, I guess if you were trying to get a 16 year old girl tipsy off some cheap clear rum and OJ served in a stemmed fluted-edge glass then this is the place to take her. Just kidding, but actually every drink on the menu had some type of syrup, sugar concoction, sweet n sour tragedy that would be guaranteed to give me a belly ache exactly one sip of the way down. So we obviously passed on the drinks. Now, on to the food, which also seemed to lacking in flavor and presentation given the price ($12-22 per entrée). My brother had the lobster tacos, which he asked for no tomato on and was giving probably an entire diced up half tomato on top of his three tacos. His girlfriend ordered the lobster wrap and it was falling apart and disintegrating so much that she chose to not eat the other half. Me and my boyfriend decided to split the catch of the day, which was Snapper, blackened with mashed potatoes instead of rice and the accompanying mixed vegetables. If you can call a few straggly strands of onion and a pile of limp soggy yellow zucchini "Mixed Vegetables"... I didn't not enjoy my dinner at the Funky Pelican however, given the beachfront location and my company of all people I love and care dearly for it would be hard to completely ruin my experience. What I didn't enjoy was the over-the-top cocktail menu, the nearly inedible veggie side served with the fresh catch of the day, and the execution errors in our other meals ordered. That and the fact that our waitress was preoccupied by large parties with screaming/crying baby baby children seated very close to us doesn't really add up to a memorable dining experience in Flagler. read more

A chill place to eat on the beach.... My fiance and I were visiting for a few days after New Years. We looked up reviews in the area while staying The Hammock Beach Resort and saw this place. The staff was friendly, the food was hot and fast, and the view was amazing. I recommend the New England clam chowder to start. Even a cup was enough to fill me up! The wall chalk outside is a cute addition to make for some fun pics. We'll definitely visit again when in the area! The locals are so friendly!! read more

We were completely understanding of their sign telling everyone to be patient due to a limited menu and limited staff, and we have been patient with all the things going on with Covid. We gave them our cell no., and we got the first text. We were told we would get another text when they were ready for us. We waited at the bar for over 40 mins and then decided to ask the ladies at the front if our table was ready. One of the ladies was rude and said they had been texting us with no response and then took us off the list since we didn't respond. We didn't get any texts, and we even showed them our phone that had no texts. She rudely said, "Well, we're closed now. Do you want to talk to the manager?" Regrettably, we said no. I have literally no idea how I have not yet reviewed the Funky! This is Dad C & Step-Mum C's fav spot in Flagler Beach and how can you blame them?? The views alone are one reason why you just can't skip the Funky Pelican in FB. The restaurant is situated right next to the pier on the beach in the heart of town. If you sit outside, be ready for that beachy breeze, but it's worth it for vibe. There's sweeping views up the beach and you can just chill and watch the waves roll in and the guys fishing off the pier. Our favorite time is Happy Hour of course. There's a bar patio right outside on the beach side, and lots of local and tourists hit up the Funky for super affordable drinks and bites. Coming up from Miami, it takes me a bit to get used to the prices here, but damn it's such a bargain ranging from $2 beers to $4 cocktails and $6 bites. As far as the drinks go, and from what I ca tell, it can depend on who you get as a bartender. Some are more skilled than others, but again - the prices and the view!! So if you're super picky on cocktails, I'd suggest a insanely cheap beer. Otherwise, roll the dice and hope you get crazy Michael. He's super friendly and always talking it up, so you can't miss him if he's there. The food is quite yummy. I've been here for breakfast, lunch, happy hour, and dinner service and have managed to find a tasty meal each time. I absolutely prefer the breakfast though. There's also a humongous bloody Mary that is basically a meal in itself, called the Funky Mary. I highly suggest ordering one just to check it out. It comes fully loaded with a slim jim, shrimp, cheese and the other normal toppers. Just do it, It's a winner all the way. Sometimes there can be a really long wait, so if you are trying to hit this spot up during high season and during peak dining times, prepare for a wait. A fantastic way to end our mini vacaction. Dinner at the Funky Pelican with an amazing view of the Atlantic Ocean. I could have thrown my Black Bean Burger and hit the water. Not that I would have done that because the burger was very good, as were the fries...and the fried onion strings...and the grilled cheese. We got to the restaurant pretty early, so we were able to get a great table on the patio overlooking the ocean. If you want that view you need to arrive early as this place will start filling up quickly. Our server was very knowledgeable and attentive and also remembered my side of honey mustard, which almost no restaurant ever remembers. I would definitely eat here again if we were in the area. I picked this place for my birthday dinner. I looked past the bad reviews in hope of a good view and good food. We came in and asked for a beach view and was told absolutely no problem. It was busy and we were prepared to wait. Yet 45-55m later we were called and lead to a dark corner of the restaurant that looks into the pier building. Just trash and wood as a view. I asked the waitress if there was another table available nicely. Yet was met with a roll of the eyes and a "That's it take it or leave it". I understand these women are over worked yet the rudeness was unexpected of a women her age. We decided to leave instead of waiting MORE time for them to lead us to another crummy table. It's off season and I can only imagine how horrible the service is during the spring/summer. As a local we will never be back. Thanks for ruining my birthday dinner. Yuck. read more
