Came to Flagler Beach for vacation. We decided to come to the Funky Pelican for breakfast. Breakfast is from 8:00 am to 11 am. We came here at 10:35. I was worried we wouldn't make it. We sat outside. It was a beautiful day and the deck is overlooking the beach and the water. We ordered our food and it came out within 10 minutes. Everything was fresh and tasty. The food was average. Nothing to rave about. The view of the dilapidated pier is an eyesore. The server, Jenny, is awesome.

What an absolutely fantastic place to hang out!! The service was spectacular and the food was delicious! My girlfriend and I were taking a road trip to Savannah, Georgia, and stopped here along the way to enjoy a cocktail and some delicious food. Of course we had to buy a couple of tie-dye T-shirts! What a location! Right at the Flagler Beach Pier downtown, with sweeping views of the shoreline, an outside bar and local faire. Their New England Clam Chowder is on point, creamy with great clam taste. We tried the Florida Mahi Reuben with in-house slaw and a nice marbled rye, very nice. The service was super slow. Our waitress disappeared after taking our order, our food was delivered by a food runner. The clam chowder tasted like it was out of a can, the fish and chips were soggy and the grilled cheese very greasy. We never received water nor did we get offered a refill on our coffee. When we finally flagged our waitress down for the check we had to wait another 20 minutes for her to return as she was busy chatting to the table behind us. I can easily tell this is the best seafood joint in the whole Flagler County! We visited Palm Coast for my boyfriend's birthday and were looking for a place that had outdoor seating. The outdoor seating ended up closed while we were here since it was really windy outside, but it was a weekday afternoon and not super busy so we felt comfortable dining inside. All of the servers were wearing masks (during COVID) which was appreciated. Our server was Melanie A. and she had another server in training with her. Both of them were very sweet and attentive. We scored a table near the windows so we had a lovely view of the ocean. We ordered gator tail as an appetizer. I ordered the Florida Reuben with New England clam chowder as my side and my boyfriend got a crab cake sandwich. The gator tail was delicious! My boyfriend is a huge fan of gator tail and I always taste his. This was probably the best version I've had. The New England clam chowder was also tasty and creamy. The Florida Reuben was pretty good. I didn't love the sauce and felt the fish could have had a little more seasoning, but that's more just my personal taste. The bread was nicely toasted and the Swiss cheese was a nice compliment. My boyfriend loved his crab cake sandwich. After finishing our meal, we were allowed to go outside on the patio just to finish our beer and enjoy the view which was lovely despite the intense wind. Keep an eye on the cute little birds that hang around. When my back was turned for a minute, one managed to wrestle a half of a French fry out of my closed to go container that was on the table! I shooed it away and kept an eye on it after since I didn't want them to get sick from eating something they shouldn't. The food was mid. Aside from the view and home fries there's no need to go to the restaurant ESPECIALLY during breakfast hours. I ordered a meat lovers omelet and added shrooms, tomato, & spinach and a yogurt bowl. The yogurt bowl tasted spoiled and the fruit they topped it with made absolutely no sense at all even it were made fresh it was overall a rip off. The compete toppings were just sprinkled on top. The waitress checked on us rarely. When she finally came back to check on us we asked her for the check and if they had military discount. She looked at us and said only for the person that's actually in the military (2/3 of us were in the military and the 3rd person was our grandmother) all the food was on one tab so that didn't make sense to me but she claimed the restaurant had been taken advantage of for their military discount. I ordered the Island Chicken & Shrimp. Very, very good. Jerk Chicken with spice. Service was outstanding and food came quickly. The restaurant sits right on the ocean and the views were great. I rode my bike to the restaurant and they let me put it inside the door so I could watch it. They also volunteered to fill both my water bottles. Went on a Wednesday in July. Seated right away. Fun ambiance right on the beach. Food took a bit longer than expected, but waitress was very nice. Big kid portions, but not so much for adults. Crab cakes were thin and very greasy. Kid macaroni and cheese was straight from a cardboard box. Chowder was very good. While we were still In Orlando my husband's cousin suggested that we should try The Funky Pelican to have lunch and then after my husband would start the drive to North Carolina so we took him up on that suggestion. We arrive at The Funky Pelican on August 27, 2021. I was going to order a regular Reuben but with our waitress suggestion of a Florida Reuben I decided that I would go with her suggestion and ordered a Florida Reuben which is a Blackened fish, Swiss cheese, citrus slaw, spicy key lime tartar grilled rye bread. Served with fries. My husband was going to order something else but he also went with our waitress suggestion. She brought us our food and as soon as I took a bite I regretted my decision to order a Florida Reuben and my stomach really really regretted my decision I couldn't even finish eating it also the same with my husband he said that he would never order a Florida Reuben ever again that definitely was the last time. He also couldn't eat it. Also the fries weren't good to eat. I'm not sure if we ordered dessert We definitely wasted our money on our lunch at The Funky Pelican I know that we definitely won't be back. Very quick seating and very friendly staff. The outdoor seating was great with an amazing view of the ocean and the pier. They have an outdoor and an indoor bar. They are small though. The outside area had plenty of umbrellas to shade you while dining. The entrance front of the building was all done in chalk boards and you could leave messages all over it. Inside seating with a view of the ocean during any weather or outside seating with a view. I have now been here twice for lunch both times they have been very busy. The turnover is fast even with a wait time, our twenty minutes was less than ten. Service was excellent both times. The only thing I would suggest to management is to redo the menu so that the customers know they hand bread everything and list anything house made. Locals appreciate knowing that. Tourists are there and rarely post reviews so letting locals know what they are getting for their money is great. I travel about an hour to eat there, that says it all. read more

The menu was a bit "funky" no pun intended! There were items crossed out (in blurred marker) - note that many of the pictures shown here in old reviews are not in the menu any more! So we had to read the menu! Lol Drinks: big and GOOD! We got a rum runner and a rum n coke: yummy- Food: delicious!! We didn't go for the sandwiches, we got the jambalaya which was flavorful and a bit spicy, but delicious and full is scallops sausage and shrimp! The spiciness was great! And I got the shrimp and grits! Oh boy! Get it !! The shrimp were big and juicy and the whole experience was a delight.... meanwhile the pelican formations flew above us and the waves caressed the beach underneath... just lovely sounds of ocean ... all over refreshing experience! pros: The view is great, the service is friendly and the funky Marys are enormous. It had potential, but the little things did matter to make things good. Calamari is decent but the sauce came from a jar of bland marinara. I ordered a salad with blackened chicken it came with regular chicken and the dressing came out in K en's salad dressing containers. Nice find today on A1A - great service and great find for food. Love the jambalaya, fish dip and clam chowder. All new things and a new to me restaurant. It was a food trifecta, usually you find one dish that is good, but all three out the gate were worth making another trip back.
