Dr. Joyce was amazing with both my 8 yr old and 4 yr old. My 4 yr old had 3 cavities unfortunately, so the treatment plan involved 3 fillings (and laughing gas). My big girl was handling the process so well as Dr. Joyce and her awesome dental assistant explained everything calmly, and kid-friendly that she was able to do all 3 fillings! Went for my sons first time and we had a fantastic experience. Great staff, the office is very visual for the kids. Dr. Duong was absolutely amazing with my son. His assistant was very patient and really knows how to approach and talk to little kids. The best part of all this was how the front staff took care of my wild daughter while I saw with my son to get his teeth cleaned. I knew she wasn't going to sit still but they said she was fine and would watch after her. Not only did they play with her and kept her entertained but they even took a picture together at the photo booth. I definitely will be back and absolutely recommend this place. My children have been patients at FUNtastic Dental for over 9 years, however not until our visit today was I made aware of their shady billing practices. Our family has dual dental insurance coverage and have still been billed out of pocket costs. My husband has been blindly paying the balance, never questioning why routine cleanings were not fully covered by our dual coverage insurances. I spoke with the insurance companies and they informed me that this dental office bills outrageously high amounts for routine treatments (cleanings, fluoride, x-rays), leaving the patient responsible for the balance. Today I paid a $404.60 balance for routine dental care! How absurd is that? My children have never had a filling or any additional procedures with the exception of required extractions for orthodontics. Over the past 9 years we have paid thousands of dollars in out of pockets costs. Having two insurance coverages should guarantee that you should not be paying hundreds of dollars each visit. I will no longer refer anyone to this dental practice. read more

As a parent, I don't want to drag my kids to a dentist they're dreading - not the case here! Each and every person from the front desk, dental assistant, and doctors show such a passion for their role. Do not use FUNtastic. We have been there several times and each time they over charge us. The prices are far above market. They do not tell you your plan is out of network until after your service. Even with $90 in credit, and a routine preventative appointment, and dental insurance, we were charged $230 out of pocket. There is no reason to go here just for the entertainment they provide the kids. I would be highly skeptical of the positive yelp reviews here. read more

We were referred to Funtastic Dental from our neighbor. Our 4 years old son had 8 cavities (!! I know) and needed some pretty substantial work. We saw two other pediatric dentists before Funtastic to make sure that we were being thorough in evaluating all of our options. After pretty thorough research and a very helpful consultation visit with the doctor, we chose Funtastic. We were a bit terrified given the substantial nature of the work, but Dr. Duong was amazing. He was patient and you can tell he enjoys working with kids. Marisol, his assistant is absolutely amazing and put us at ease and my son loved her. We are very thankful to have found Funtastic and look forward to years of dental care (although hopefully not so many cavities). read more

We recently moved back to Long Beach and i was in search of a good dentist for my boys. A friend recommended this place. The location was convenient and it seemed like a FUN place for the kids. I made the appointment and provided all of our insurance info a week prior to the appointment. walking in, this place is like the chocolate factory meets price is right. The friendly level is at a 12 which is great, bravo for smiles. My kids were on cloud 9 playing with all the toys and gadgets. Also great until they saw the display of sugar free, chemical filled candy and begged me for it....no!!! Once you step into the back office....where all the action is, you are immediately handed piles of paperwork, a membership card, gift bags, coffee cups, toys AND if you refer a friend you can win movie tickets, free meals and other prizes.....you get the point. Its overwhelming BUT my kids did have a good time. I was not into it but if my kids are happy then i'll put up with the cheese factor. Soon after our visit i get a bill for over $400. We have great insurance so i was a little taken back. When i called and they told me our insurance had already paid their portion i knew what was coming.....we were... "out of network"! Listen.....i know this is my fault because i should have known right??? I should have taken the time to call my insurance company to double check but i didn't. I trusted that FUNtastic would have given me a heads up because they knew.....they knew for a week prior to my appointment, they knew the day of my appointment and they knew after we left!!! They kept us busy with cartoons, gadgets and smiles and then they hit me with the bill!!! I'm guessing they do that to many "out of network" patients and its bullshit!!!!! You should warn your patients of potential out of pocket cost, period. read more

We have been going to FUNtastic Dental and Orthodontics for over a decade. My eldest, who is now 17, started going there when Dr Stella first started and they only had one side of the office. They expanded and my eldest had his braces there. Since then, my two younger sons have gone. We have been very happy and pleased. We miss the times when it was smaller and and more intimate, and we saw Dr Stella, but we still like going there. We enjoy all the extra parties during Halloween and Christmas, and really feel that the office cares for the patients. It really is a great place to take your kids. read more

Once again FUNtastic Dental has exceeded my expectations. My son had an accident to his front tooth over the weekend. I was pleasantly surprised how fast they were able to get him in. Despite a leak the office experienced Monday morning and having to move their patients around, they managed to kindly squeeze in my son this morning. He's 2 and this was also his first initial visit ever seeing a dentist. I couldn't have asked for a better or smoother visit. The front desk staff is always on point and amazing. Sherice (I hope I spelled her name right, was very kind and consoling when I told her the reason I was scheduling the appt.) Then Rebecca, the dental assistant who took care of my son was excellent and knew how to make a 2 year old feel welcomed and at ease. Dr. Ruben is very kind and patient, he made me feel so much better and I walked out of there stress free. This office would get 10 stars from me if it was an option. Not only was this place ridiculously expensive, my child who has some sensory issues was on complete overload. He was so overwhelmed by all of the crap in this office that he was too stimulated and couldn't relax for his visit. I was totally underwhelmed by the doctor whom I couldn't understand and kept trying to speak Spanish to my son which he doesn't speak. Also the quality of the xrays were horrible. I sent my sons xrays to my personal dentist and they said you couldn't tell anything from them and that this place was a scam. This was a convenient location for our family and they offer Saturday appointments. I was unfortunately 16 minutes late to our scheduled Saturday appointment and they didn't allow us to come in and also advised us that we would not be able to schedule another Saturday appointment. This was one minute past their 15 minute grace period. I have been to hundreds of doctors and dentists appointments for my kids and rarely if ever are we seen by a doctor or dentist within 15 minutes of our scheduled appointment. 16 minutes late and we can't schedule another Saturday appointment, never again. read more

Unfortunately our experiences here with the billing and them leading us to believe that we were an in-network customer when in fact we were not lead to Astronomical bills for simple kids dental cleanings. I asked them why they were not up front about it with us when we asked and had them call our insurance to verify. Instead they said "yes you are covered" which in fact meant yes you are covered under the out of network coverage! I also verified from a family member who is a prominent dentist here in California that they also are billing astronomical amounts for the procedures rendered. I emphasized with them why would I go to your dental office and pay out of network prices when I pay for PPO dental insurance that just doesn't make sense. I have tried to contact them to make it right and to no avail as they have not contacted us back yet. I guess the silver lining here is that we had only gone to them twice before we realized their shady business practices and are thankful our kids didn't need anything more than simple cleanings and X-rays. I would tread with caution when looking here for a pediatric dentist. The dentists themselves seemed to be good but the front office and billing are a complete nightmare. read more

I went in expecting the worst because shes so small and i was veryy worried about having a bad first experience for her but they proved me wrong. all the attention was about her, they let her touch the instruments so she was familiar with them and not scared, she got stickers and a prize. they explained it all to us step by step and lost importantly, she felt conftorable and safe. we all had a great experience. If I could give zero stars I would. I made this appt for my three kids one month ago and gave the person on the phone my insurance information to make sure things were set and covered. I got there today and filled out all of their paperwork. There was a clause there that said insurance will reimburse based on the insurance fee schedule and not necessarily what Funtastic will bill which would mean there would be a difference that had to be paid. I'm glad I asked about this. The receptionist who was nice said that Funtastic is out of network. My insurance covers 100% but since Funtastic is out of network they don't know what will be covered and I might get a bill. I asked her that I gave all my insurance info on the phone to make sure that everything was set, why didn't they call to let me know and waste my time? The other receptionist interjected and said they won't call me unless I specifically ask them to. I told her what's the point of getting all my insurance info and telling me things are all set if I'm not actually covered at this office. This looks like a great place for kids. I feel like this is a bait and switch and totally unprofessional of them not to follow up after getting my insurance information.
