Service 5 stars Ambiance 5 stars…read moreFood 4 stars ... The James burger, best burger I've ever had. Only complaint is half way through it I found a hair under the second half on my plate so didn't come from me. Wish I never saw it! Will go back, stuff happens, but ruined my 5 star experience for sure.

I want to give this place another Star, I really do but I don't know that it's deserved!?…read more I will start by saying this place is right up my alley! A great upstairs bar, patio space outside, lots of whiskey and Bourbon and other great things. I will say the one Star drop was just the very very average to below average food! I have been here a couple of times, good cocktails! Came in one night to watch a Bball game and have some dinner. I have been on a quest of the best Fish & Chips in Boise and figured from the feel of this place it might just hit a little something! I was, well disappointed I guess is the best way to say it. Fish & Chips were OK, very OK, but cold or at least not real warm! I get it, kitchen is downstairs and it has to come up but that is something they should be good at. This was not a very busy night and I don't think that had much to do with anything! I will come back for the patio, might even have a bite here again but I don't think I would order the Fish & Chips again, just wouldn't be worth it! Great location, patio but very average and not very warm food! KT

I moved to right down State St from the Local, so my parents and I have been here twice now…read more The first time was amazing food, but the service wasn't great, super rude and impatient. The reason we went back the second time was because we remembered how good the food was and how nearby it was too. The second time the food was still really good, but the service was HORRENDOUS. Brittney was such a ***** to me and my parents, my mom especially. My mom was complimenting her and something about the food, and she straight up just walked away in the middle of my mom still talking. And no it wasn't busy. It was towards the end of the night, there was maybe 2-3 other customers there. She acted like we were bothering her the whole time. Then once she'd leave us would just stand up at the bar flirting with the other guy working there and just ignore anyone else. Then on top of all of that, my dad tells me she added $10 onto her tip! FRAUD!!! I've attached photos as evidence. My dad still tipped her even though she was so rude and disrespectful. But apparently that wasn't enough for her and added $10 onto the total. I cannot believe that. And my dad tells me it was difficult to get his $10 back after calling and talking to the manager. He didn't get the name of the manager but he said that they were just making excuses and saying oh but she's our best server. Obviously not! Saying things like oh she must've just been really busy. Again, we were there when it was dead and about to close soon, no it was not busy. It's almost as if this business does this type of thing often because there was no alarm from the manager, then finally after much deliberation decided to send back the $10. Absolutely ridiculous. No : "I'm so sorry here's a free meal on us", or atleast a "here's a coupon or gift card for next time you come in", nothing. This is the type of thing that gets people closed down. We should report to the BBB. This is insane. And to not be offered anything to make it right is what really gets me. Like do they not want us to ever come back??? Not to mention tell everyone we know, etc. Yikes! And this is what we get for wanting to support local businesses instead of going to the big chains. What a bummer.

As expected eating Snow Crab legs is work. It the crab scissors they supplied helped make it easy to extract. I'd order again I think. I tasted the halibut fish and chips and the portion of halibut was good and tasted great I didn't know it until afterwards that the charcuterie serving that was brought out was not on the menu but something they did just for us. I loved the meat, crackers and the cheese. The dates were nice additional as well. I had a Pinot Noir wine and it was pretty good. There was feedback about a beef dish that was returned as diners felt the meat was tough and fatty They were given credit for the meal and it was removed from their bill. There wasn't a full bar but I enjoyed the wine ( Pinot noir) I had. Others in my group had beer. The servers were delightful, attentive, accommodating and fun to interact with. Hopefully they remain in service as I'd like to give them another shot. Love to try the lobster next time and desserts. I highly recommend giving them a shot. PS. The decor is warm and homey feeling. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted with warm smiles and made to feel welcome. I ordered the Dirty Olive House Martini and was pleasantly surprised to learn that Bardenay is the nation's first restaurant and distillery, serving its own handcrafted spirits. Their house-distilled vodka made for one smooth and delicious martini! Our server, Sabrina, was outstanding--friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. She recommended the fish tacos, and they were absolutely delicious! My husband ordered the burger and fries, and he couldn't stop talking about how good they were. What really impressed me was Sabrina's attentiveness. As soon as she noticed my martini was getting low, she stopped by to see if I'd like another. I figured, "Why not?" I was about to spend a few hours on a plane and was hoping to catch some ! The bar and seating area were spotless, and we enjoyed watching FIFA on the TVs while we ate. Great food, handcrafted cocktails, exceptional service, and a welcoming atmosphere. If you're flying out of Boise Airport, I highly recommend making time to stop at Bardenay Restaurant & Distillery before your flight. We'll definitely be back!

Today my friend wanted to celebrate her birthday here so of course I said yes! We decided to sit on the outdoor patio today. It wasn't the warmest day but it was beautiful out. The sun was peeking out once in a while. The table was nicely shaded by a huge umbrella. The sun was nice but to have it beating on you isn't the best so the umbrella was appreciated. It was the perfect table for our outing. Jerika (I hope I spelled her name right) greeted my friend and I with her beautiful smile. We got some drinks started so while they were being worked on, my friend and I breezed over the menu. I did somewhat enjoy my charboiled salmon at the Eagle Bardenay for my birthday a couple weeks ago. The chefs did undercook my first plate of salmon. The server was kind to take my plate back to have the chefs remake it. The second attempt was appreciated but it was unfortunately a fail. The salmon came out so dry. I get that I wanted it well done but not jerky. But, today's a new day and I was willing to give it another shot. So today, I ordered the salmon with veggies instead of the salad. My plate came out and it looked promising. I love beautiful char marks on my food. The char marks today were perfect. My veggies looked nicely cooked but I could tell that some of the squash was still undercooked by the color. I didn't mind, it's a sign of freshness. As much as I wanted to stare at the prettiness of my food, I was ready to dig in! My salmon was so good! It was perfectly cooked! No raw spots in the middle, it was flaky and moist. It was a fabulous piece of salmon. The sun dried tomato butter is a fantastic add on to the salmon. I honestly could have polished another piece of fish. The chef that cooked my salmon today needs a raise! My lunch was chef's kiss! My friend enjoyed her lunch and her birthday drink! The outdoor patio was so relaxing. My lunch was also enjoyed. Our server was kind and attentive. I couldn't have asked for a better birthday lunch for my deserving friend. I hope that it won't be another 5+ years till I come back. I will need another plate of salmon with that sun dried tomato butter soon.

By coincidence when walking around town I spotted it and had to go try. I'm a sucker for biscuits and gravy and these definitely beat what you would find in a Denny's or IHOP by a landslide on the taste and aesthetic scale! It's super filling since there's so many carbs, but the taters (more like small potato wedges) are actually a clever add-in. They add a slight bit of texture to the mushiness of the gravy-soaked biscuits, and potatoes and gravy are already best friends in terms of food pairings. There's also garnish on top (some sort of greens and cheese) that gives it a nice look and extra flavor. Delicious! I didn't think much of the customer service initially aside from thinking they were super friendly. However, I sat down at one of the tables and took my time eating and people watching. So many people came by the store to talk to the chefs with such familiarity that it felt like this popup was its own restaurant and community. It hasn't reached a point of popularity where it's flooded with people, but the more I look back on the experience, the nicer I feel about it. Even after a lot of time had passed and the staff had already helped out so many people, when I left, they called out my name and it made me wish I could go back again. This is one of the best experiences I've ever had at a restaurant. Not because it's spectacular or mindblowing, but because it was great people watching. The food itself was also amazing for late night food-coma inducing munching.
