Went there for dinner last night to celebrate a birthday…read more We had the shrimp scampi and the pork chop. Both main courses were excellent. The scampi had a generous portion of good size shrimp. The pork chop was very thick and large yet was very flavorful and tender. The pork chop came with mashed potatoes and seasoned vegetables. However, in looking over the menu I saw they had a variety of sides. I asked if I could change me sides, which they were more than glad to do. I got the carrots and the cornbread. The carrots were delicious and there was a lot of them. The cornbread tasted good but was a little dry. Next time I would stay with the carrots but try something else. As I said the pork chop was very big and I took about half of it home. When I placed my order the waiter asked if I wanted to order a second pork chop, which I passed on. However, next time I may take him up on the offer and have an additional one to take home. All around I give it 5 stars. Also, we asked about desert. There was no desert menu nor a desert tray to help us make a decision. The waiter did rattle off the desert options, however this was kind of busy to follow. A desert menu or try would certainly go a lot further, as far as we are concerned. In summary, the food was outstanding, the service was very good and the atmosphere was pleasant.

I wasn't sure what to expect as I tend to be a bit weary of chain restaurants. I have to say though, this one had a really nice vibe and I get why people like it here. First of all, it's a nice restaurant with elevated vibes. It reminded me of places I used to go with my grandparents as a kid. It had great service, comfortable seating, and a nice menu. If anything it just feels like it caters to an older crowd - nothing wrong with that, just not my usual vibe. For brunch that day I had the migas and it was really great. Tons of food, and I easily made two meals out of my lunch. Something to note about the menus though is that they don't have a kids menu. They did share items for kids that they have on hand, but no physical menu to look at so not sure the prices or anything. Our daughter had a hamburger and she loved it so that was a win. One plus was she was able to get a side of fruit instead of fries, which was a win for her since she has declared that she only likes McDonald's french fries these days. Overall this is a nice sit restaurant with table service that has an elevated and sophisticated vibe. Likely geared towards older generations but younger folks will find plenty to enjoy here as well.

Let's start with the service -- lightning-fast, even during the lunch rush. You know how some places treat "lunch hour" like a loose suggestion? Not here. Before you can scroll halfway through your emails, your food's already smiling up at you. Add in friendly, upbeat staff who seem genuinely happy to be there (a rare species in the restaurant world), and you've already got a solid start. The menu deserves a round of applause too. It's a well-curated variety of all the grill classics you'd expect -- burgers, steaks, sandwiches, and some creative twists that make you pause and think, "Maybe I will try something new today." Everything is prepared with care, and the flavors back it up. No complaints on the food -- just the right amount of seasoning, cooked to perfection, and it all tastes as fresh as promised. Price-wise, it's right in line with the area, which is to say, your wallet won't cry but it won't exactly sing either. You get what you pay for -- and in this case, you're getting quality food and top-tier service, so no arguments there. In short: 54th Street Scratch Grill & Bar is the kind of place you go when you want to eat well, be treated well, and not spend half your lunch break wondering if your order got lost in the kitchen. A reliable choice that delivers on flavor, friendliness, and speed -- with just enough flair to keep you coming back. Would I return? Absolutely -- and probably before the waiter can even ask if I'd like dessert. Follow us on social media, tik tok etc @we_stayed_there www.westayedthere.com

The bartender was very attentive and friendly even though he was busy. We got our order in, and it came out pretty quickly. I unfortunately didn't get a photo of my parents' food (Chicken Fried Chicken and Steak with Shrimp & a Salad), but my food was too fye. Their smashburger was perfect. I love pickles, so I was very pleased with the amount on there, plus the grilled onions and aioli (which I considered asking for on the side, but am glad I decided to keep it on) were so delicious. Their fries are really good too. I've tried a few different dishes here, and they have all been delicious. I love the Americana wall decor, and the Qui-Gon Jinn poster is my favorite of course.

Unfortunately, the experience with the hostess and the manager completely changed our overall impression. Every time I've come here, I've gotten off-putting vibes from the hostess, Nancy (older woman with short gray hair), and this visit confirmed it. We were told there would be a 10-minute wait for an outdoor table, which was totally fine. When we were seated, it was at the far end where it was quite windy. Not a huge issue, but I did notice two open tables with heaters nearby. Thinking ahead, I tried to see if we could move to one of those tables. While I was looking for someone to ask, another party was seated at one of them, leaving just one open. When I finally found a hostess, she told me I needed to speak with Nancy. Nancy then told me I'd have to wait another 10 minutes for that table--which seemed odd, but I agreed. I stepped aside to wait, and she immediately seated another party at the exact table I had just asked about. That was frustrating and honestly felt dismissive. We were then seated at another table without a heater, and we decided to just move forward and enjoy our evening. We ordered drinks and appetizers and planned to possibly play Mahjong if it seemed appropriate. We were very mindful not to take up a table unnecessarily, so before starting, we asked our waitress if it would be okay. She said absolutely. Over the next couple of hours, we ordered drinks, appetizers, and dinner, with our bill totaling around $200. The restaurant had multiple open tables the entire time, and we made sure we were actively dining and not just sitting around. At the end of our meal, the manager, Kirk, came over to deliver our checks and told us that "it's Kansas law that you can't play games at restaurants," but that he would "let it slide this time." This was both confusing and frustrating and this is not true information. We were playing a simple tile-based strategy game. We weren't gambling or playing a drinking game. If it were truly an issue, it should have been addressed when it started--not after we had been there for hours. Additionally, we had explicitly asked our waitress beforehand and were told it was fine. Overall, the inconsistency in communication and the poor handling of the situation left a bad impression. It's disappointing because there are definitely things this restaurant does well, but the customer service experience means we won't be returning.
