Nice hangout spot to shoot some pool and have a couple cocktails, drinks did seem a little soft though but me and my lady enjoyed ourselves

Totally stumbled into this place when another pool hall was crowded and we sought out backup options. They have over 10 pool tables in surprisingly decent condition, deliiiicious food and they were playing oldies (not hip hop/pop....yay!!!!). It's a family owned and managed establishment and a rare find for the city. They also have plenty tvs for sports but not at all a dingy sports bar feel. Love this place!! read more

Terrible place, terrible service - got a lecture from the bar tender after requesting she relinquish the beers we ordered (after asking the waiter 3 times, and waiting for 25 minutes). She told us it's a family establishment so they get to take their time and we need to SIT DOWN - we're not to approach the bar, that's rude. We were thinking (but fairly certain) we got overcharged, but didn't want to push it with her and get scolded again. Then we heard the same from our friend who closed out and left early, and after reading some of the other reviews here it looks like they're pretty sketchy with bills all around. The woman who lectured told us a few times she is the daughter of the owner, and based on even more reviews on Yelp, looks like she shares that with a lot of people. Cool girl. Went on a Friday night to kill time before other bars opened. Atmosphere was good. Drinks were ok. Food was terrible. I have had much better bar food. Cheese fries consisted of bland fries that were covered in shredded cheese and then microwaved. Poppers weren't good. The spinach dip was terrible. The spinach dip from TGIF that you can buy in the frozen section was 10x better than this dip, so that should let you know how awful this dip was. After several attempts of trying to season the dip (which was too thick and gross in the first place), we sent it back and asked for it to be taken off of our bill. The waitress told us she couldn't and we had to speak with the bartender. After telling him that is was gross, he says that the food is good. WHO DOES THAT? Since I've moved from Astoria, Qns I've struggled to find that good old Greek pool hall kinda service and I finally found it last night at G-Cue. Literally walked into the Astoria pool hall of Chicago. Funniest moment of the night was when we asked the "cold war" faced waitress if she liked Prince and she simply replied "no" without a hint of interest...lol. I just loved it! Made the place feel just like it should...somewhere you go to get standard drinks, hassle free pool, and fun times with a jukebox. Will visit again, but don't have any high expectations going here. I don't usually play pool, but this place was alright with me. It was clean, quiet, and the bartender and server were friendly. I was there in the middle of the week and they stayed open pretty late, which was nice. They have around 10 tables, darts, and tons of flat screen TVs scattered around playing different sporting events. There were a couple of tools in there getting wasted on a Wednesday, having the most ridiculous conversation, and they definitely made my visit a bit more hilarious. Kick ass father son family business worth checking out for a game of pool, some drinks and maybe a bite or two. Its always got a few tables open since there are so many, really a nice place to shoot around. They are doing some reno on it right now, but its a fun place to check out, especially to rest your feet while exploring Taste of Randolph fest. read more

Looking for a place to mispend an afternoon? G-Cue is the place. The pool tables are first rate, well-lit, with fast baizes and tight pockets. The bar is well-stocked, heavy on the martinis and beers and the kitchen does a grand array of exactly the kind of food one eats while playing pool - burgers, potato skins, sandwiches - all at very reasonable prices. The staff were extremely helpful, the layout is purpose built for pool and the flatscreen TV's unobtrusive. Whilst I was there a staff person was vacuuming the pool tables baizes - a sure sign of a place dedicated to playing pool. As pool halls go - this is one of the best. read more

Great place to have a bite, drink a few martinis and shoot some pool. The buffalo chicken sandwich was EXCELLENT and we had the friendliest waitress. They take your ID and card as collateral which I don't like because I always forget them. After I inevitably forgot them, they sent them back to me right away - which was a lifesaver. Woohoo indeed! My husband and I came here to check out their private room upstairs for a party. Our jaws dropped to the floor for the whole 10 minutes that we were up there. It is insanely awesome with 1 billion pool tables (not 1 billion) and brick walls everywhere, super tall windows, a bar, speakers all over and tvs. OMG it was amazing. The owner was soooooooooo nice to us. We went back the following week for dinner and I had spoken to his wife over the phone and when we were eating she came over to us to say hello and to see how our dinner was. She didn't know I was the one who spoke with her and once I told her she had the biggest smile on her face. And our bartender Penelope was aw may zing! lol She was the best waitress we had ever met. Looks like a cool place to hang out, never got to fully experience it because I was only there shooting a scene with Lauren German (Character: Paramedic Leslie Shay) for Chicago Fire by the bar when you first walk in... we had fake drinks, but the atmosphere seemed really fun! We were ready for a great time....BUT our expectations were too high. 1st of all - the ladies room; the 1st stall was disgusting and 2nd stall didn't have a latch. Ok. Fine. Let's play pool! Waited 45 mins for server as we played pool, meanwhile we watched as other customers were being attended. We finally decided to walk to the bar. We placed our appetizer, entree and drink order. When our food order came up, I took a bite of the crab cakes and instantly didn't like it. It didn't look like crab nor did it tastes like crab. I asked the server to return it after one bite. A few seconds later the bartender approached my tables with crabs in a can. Basically, she said she wasn't taking out off the bill. Either we eat it or leave it on the table and walked away. We were a party 6... we ordered 4 entrees , 6 appetizers , drinks, and shots so to just blantly walk up to our table as rude as she was was uncalled for. Again, we came in for a good time but after such a horrible experience we paid our bill; walked out and will never be back. All this after a $10 crab cake. read more

Awesome! Tables are very well maintained owner a sweet heart. Did not try the food but will be returning soon that menu looks better than any billiard menu I have ever seen, important when your playing for a while. They sell cues however no longer do onsite cue maintenance. Nice lounge feel with sofas fire place big bar. Dangerous could play there the entire day no excuse to leave, which at a high end billiards establishment.... price adds up lol but worth it. read more

The place is not UBERCHIC for a first date with your brand new honey, but has some killer small dishes to offer: try the specialties of the house such as chilli (awesome flavors blended beautifully), Greek sausage ( grilled, with an amazing aroma of fennel and spices, complimented with lemon wedges and cucumbers to cool your palate). The rest of the menu can please you anytime of the day. And, if you have a laptop with you, there is free wifi. The service is friendly as well. It is not cheap but the portions are huge! read more

This place is pretty spacious, has tables that are in good condition, and a key thing is the air quality is way better. Whatever they do they are able to keep it from getting thick with smoke like city pool (and a lot of other bars). Never have eaten here but always got pretty friendly and efficient service for drinks. Why only 3 stars.... Wow the drink prices are pretty jacked up for a pool hall. Oh and the jukebox is pretty cool if I am there when it is dead. But when it is busy it can easily begin to suck since inevitably some group will have tossed in like 50+ song of the same style that they are into and you aren't. Next time I go I think I am going to make sure that a**hole is me. read more

So, I have read the previous reviews and I must say that G-Cue is definitely by far my favorite pool hall in Chicago and one of my favorite lunch spots as well. The food is a pleasantly surprising, as every single item I've ever tried on the menu is fantastic! And I've tried nearly everything. For those trying to be mindful of their diet, the salad selection is amazing and they are always willing to customize something special for any customer. OH! and the Strawberry Spinach Salad (add grilled chicken) or the Chicken Fajita Salad are to die for! But if you're not calorie sensitive the Turkey Swiss Mushroom burger and the Beef Fiesta Wrap are also amazing choices, with a healthy serving of french fries. Plus everything come in portions that are very healthy for your appetite and wallet. The spot is extremely friendly, family owned and managed, its really nice to see people who actual care about their customers and take the time to know them. I work in the neighborhood and live not too far, so I come all the time for lunch and in the evenings with my boyfriend to eat, play pool or watch a game. But no matter what time we come the staff always knows what we like to drink, eat, and where our favorite tables are. If you're looking for microwave food and teenager customer service like at an applebee's (yuck!) this is not the place for you. But if you are looking for a relaxed, inviting environment where you can unwind, load the jukebox and enjoy a meal, then this is definitely the neighborhood spot for you and friends! Let me preface this review by letting you know I'm a novice pool player. I've probably played pool at 10 different places in the city. This place was not packed on a Thursday which is nice. I was like, "So this is what nice pool tables are supposed to look and feel like." You can just tell the quality of the pool tables. They place a little faster than the ones that I'm used to. It's a little bit pricey. But i guess you get what you pay for. O and the drinks were mixed perfectly. Not too strong, not too weak. Very enjoyable. I came in for a friend's bday party. This is the absolute worst experience I've ever had. At first I was having a great time, great people and music and the waiter was very friendly. I sit down and order chicken nachos from the waiter. When the nachos come it looks like beef but I though it was ground chicken so I took a bite and realized it was beef. My friend took a couple bites and she said the same, that beef was one the nachos. I asked for someone to grab the waiter because I was given the wrong order and the lady says "we don't have chicken nachos" and I'm staring at her like okay I don't work here so how would I know? I simply placed an order. So our waiter finally comes back and says he'll ask the manager to take care of it. The manager comes over and she didn't ask what the issue was she says "somebody called me" which is weird. So I tell her my issue and she tells me that they don't have chicken nachos and all of this extra stuff about how they make nachos and I'm like confused because all I did was order CHICKEN damn nachos. Then she kept asking me who ate them and that I should've sent them back right away, which was redundant because I told my waiter right away. At this point I'm disbelief at how rude and aggressive she was acting. Then she says "they're not taking them off." "I'm just like I'm not paying for something I didn't order." And I ask for the owner and she said she was the owner. And I knew she was lying because I had been there before with my company and the owner worked with us directly. She comes back a while later and says they took it off the bill and then rolled her eyes. I then told her that they way she handled that was rude and she says "if you don't like it you can leave" what?! Are you kidding me?! You all mess up my order and you treat me this way?! So I asked for the owner who she says is her daddy. So I ask for her father and he says the same about "we don't make chicken nachos" WHAT I am in the twilight zone. He then tells me that I should read the menu next time and that I'm causing a scene. I have NEVER had anyone in the service industry speak to me this way and from the looks of things many people have had the same issue. Don't go to this place because they don't treat their customers well and clearly this chick has entitlement and daddy issues. I also, will reach out to my company's event team and make sure we will no longer have anything at this place. I've never been so upset at a restaurant in my life. Nice Decor. 9 ft pocket billiard tables. pocketless billiard tables. Tables are nice but I wonder how often they change the cloth. Service is ok if not annoying. Food is good. Prices: you may need to take out a loan. They will charge you $1 to rent a house cue. They will add a mysterious $9 fee to your bill. Hipsters? what hipsters? Hipsters can't afford to come here. I've stopped by there for lunch a few times (Mmm.... swiss burger mmm) and I love it. The atmosphere is always really quiet and the woman who manages/owns the place is an absolute doll. I love going there to listen to her talk (whether about what's going on in the neighborhood, how her daughter abroad is doing, or whatever). I've never been there at night so other results may vary. I come to G Cue often and never have been treated so rudely as we were tonight. My friends were chanting a U of I song and the "owner" his daughter actually tell us she knows it's a bar but we're too loud and if it's a problem she's the owner. First its a bar and you didn't say anything to the men shouting at the dart machines being belligerent 2nd no one ask if you were the owner okay that's great your point is??? I don't know what the isdu but her behavior was completely uncaused for and disrespectful. Then she goes to the bar and start pointing at us to other customers talking shit. The two stars are for the hall itself. Good tables, not great. Clean felt, 9 foot, and relatively good rails. I was the only person in the place, got a table, 14$/hr plus a dollar for a stick rental (brought my own) kinda steep for one person, got a beer and was told about the food. I proceeded to play pool for over and hour and no one so much as looked at me. Wanted another beer after ten mins, wanted to order food, and wanted to have something put on one of the many tv's, which were all off except for the one at the bar that all the employees were watching. The five people working in the place were all sitting down eating except for one guy cleaning. I went to get another beer and pay for the table, and was asked why i did not get any food? my response was i was meeting friends for dinner later and was told "I could tell you didn't want a good meal" what ever that means. Overall kinda pricey, but a nice pool hall, cant judge the food cause i never got the opportunity to try any. Service made me think it was the owners family running the place because no one seemed to be worried about looking or actually being busy. I get there was no one there but me, but working in the service industry myself, i would think that thats all the more reason to take care of the only customer you have. I'd probably go back but will definitely give City pool hall up the street a try. read more

So I recently had a group of my friends to meet me here for drinks and the bartender Penelope was very rude, nasty and racist. I'm assuming they never had to accommodate a large group of professional African Americans before because anytime we tried to order something directly from the bar she disregarded us . She purposely canceled our food orders, Up charged our bill, and put every order made by anyone that was African American on one bill. Even the people who were not in our party. Even after we told her that she was being rude she threatened to call the police and put everyone out. Please do not patronize this business. Go find a place where your money will be appreciated. Soooooo the embarrassments I can say. Last night me and about 15 mid age (African-American) was all together celebrating my boyfriend 46th bday . We purchase 3 tables and every last person purchase a drink. One of the guys WAS horse-playing with the pool stick ( which he shouldn't have been) that's hear nor there. The short black hair woman that stated she owns the business walked up to my friend and YELLED and stated that he shouldn't be horseplay He stated in a clam voice stated I understand my fault. I'm seating at the table while there talking he asked her could he ask her a question She yelled and stated you can't ask me SH**. So he was defend at that point but he asked her anyway he said if my friends didn't have a issue with me playing with the pool stick why do you ? she stated that this my D*m business so my Rules. So I tried to defuse the altercation but placing my had in between her and him so it wont become a bigger issues and she Yelled I touched her.. I said wtf I didn't touch you at all she scream you touched me get the F**k out of my place of business I'm calling the police . So I ran up to you and said I'm not sure what was her issues but I never touch her STILL in a claim voice. she stated I'm calling the police so I waiting for the police because I never touched her and never disrespected her . The bartender came out after-while and stated after speaking with a few other ppl in the room stated that I didn't touch her and we can come back in and that he apologies for her she is having a bad day. we never went back in because we felt embarrassed and unwanted.SO BLACK PEOPLE go to this PLACE. I needed some downtime so I went here to play pool for an hour. $14 for the hour. Seems fair. However, there is a charge for a pool stick? Ouch. The atmosphere is nice, the staff is friendly and welcoming, and the tables are pretty decent (good condition). I did not order food but wish I would have. The selection looks good - and prices also seem fair. Turn-off #1: no tables being used and I asked for the one in the corner. I was told it is for groups of 4 or more. That makes sense but it was 7pm on a Monday and totally empty. Turn-off #2: I do understand the quiet billiards atmosphere but maybe a little bit of music would be nice. Awkward. Turn-off #3: There was an intense draft coming from the back wall (near the bathrooms) - I almost considered playing with my gloves. Burr. Overall, I had a nice time and really liked the place for a quick game (or 5) in the West Loop. I will definitely go back and bring friends. Decent ambiance but service is horrible! We went in on a Friday night and watched all of the tables around us being serviced and tended to by the wait staff. We had to walk all the way back up to the bar to get service. We ordered food that never came and when we inquired about our order an hour later...we were told that the server "forgot" to put the order in. We asked for some sort of compensation for the long wait and were told sorry nothing we can do as if it were our fault for the crappy service. The insinuation was that we were looking for a hand out...really?! My group and I had already been on the table for 2 hours (at $14/hr) and ordered 2 rounds of drinks...so free hand out...NOT! I wouldn't recommend this spot to anyone as a sheer result of the insulting treatment of the wait staff and manager/owner (Penny K.)! read more

My husband and I just moved to the neighborhood and we were out exploring the local hang outs when we found G Cue. This place is awesome! It has a great bar feel. They have plenty of pool tables if you enjoy that. I don't play pool but I still enjoyed the atmosphere. There is a DJ every Friday and Saturday night who will play anything you wish. The crowd is a good mix. The food is great! The have a wide array from chicken wings to filet. I had the nachos and later that night we ordered wings. No complaints here. Oh and the bartenders and waitstaff are really cool. read more

I really like this place overall. It has a very nice decor, the food isn't half bad for a Chicago pool hall and the staff is pretty friendly. The only issue I have with this place is that they have ZERO interest in redoing the felt on their tables. The felt is so thin that it's turning grayish to white in some areas; and that's a damn shame honestly. For what they charge for drinks and table time, they should make it worth the money patrons spend and give them a quality experience when shooting. There's nothing worse that walking into a nice pool hall and moving from table to table hoping that there's one with decent felt, and finding NONE. In my experience, this is BY FAR the nicest pool hall in the Chicagoland area. It's just sad that they use that to their advantage and ignore the most important thing about a pool hall. Until I see / hear otherwise, I will have to find somewhere else shoot until they step up their game. read more
