Never wrote one star before. Tldr - didn't get served, divy, miscommunication about access. So, we wanted to go to geeks with drinks with our 20yr old daughter and her husband. We called ahead and verified that we would be able to play. We decided to go early for dinner. When we arrived, we walked in and waited about 2-3mins to be seated, so we sat ourselves at a table. The table was heavily damaged. At this point, we started to contemplate our decision. After another 5mjns of being stared at by the locals at the bar, we decided to leave without even being greeted. We come back at 905 for the trivia, and we're not granted access be side of our underage kids -- which is ok, except for the fact we drove 45mins out there just to come to this event and we're told we could attend specifically mentioning the age. read more

Good place to hang out if you like being treated like kindergarteners. Some dude in the men's restroom vaped right before leaving the restroom. And the old security guy with a beard comes out minutes later from one of the stalls and doesn't let anyone in the restroom leave until we tell him who it was. First of all, the security at the door obviously did a poor job if they let someone in with a vape pen. Second of all, he was having some sort of power trip because there were people waiting in line, or washing hands minding their own business; when suddenly some security guy comes out of the stall and doesn't let them leave. Instead of talking with other security guys and figuring out the situation, he kept on saying that he will kick out everyone in the restroom if we don't fess up. So me and my group did him one better, we left. Little does he know there are other bars in town. Definitely, not coming back unless that incompetent security guy gets fired. Latin Dance night was fun! Since the graduate closed in Davis the city has been missing a Latin dance scene, so it's nice to see someone bringing it back to life again. They play mostly salsa and bachata with some other things mixed in. It seems like they're having it the first and third Monday of every month. However , the BALD bartender arrived , whom this is my second encounter with , was at best a belligerent person . The food here rocks for vegans! Went for the vegan burger battle in March 2019 and had one of the best vegan burgers in the whole town. I hope they keep it on the menu. It was a patty made of quinoa, portobello, zucchini, walnuts and chia seeds with smoked vegan gouda, avo and sprouts on a Village Bakery vegan bun. Sooooooo good. Fries were great too. Noticed the regular menu also had a portobello burger and some mushroom tacos so several veg options, although I would ask to make sure. BEWARE THE BARTENDERS. They include tip in your total without telling you. They also tell you it's a $10 minimum, when in fact, it's $15. I had left my tab open, and despite only getting 3 $3 Skittles shots and 1 cider on tap, they charged me $19.53 at the end of the night. WTF? My bill should have been about $15. My server who took all my orders was a big guy named Andrew D. Pretty shady if he let others charge to my tab or more likely, added his own tip to my bill without telling me. Makes sense since my tip on the tip line was ignored, and he added $1 per drink. They gave ne a non-itemized receipt to boot. This was my first time at their bar. If they don't come clean & make charges transparent, it will be my last. I don't trust the bar at all after tonight. Stick to cash. This was when I went to their Funk Night 12/17/14 and had a pretty good time on the dancefloor. The major problem was the bar. *UPDATE*EDIT* They contacted me back on FB right away (FB messenger is the best way to reach them) and handled the entire situation with tact and respect. I really appreciate that they understood it was the principle of the matter that was important to me, not the money. They refunded me the difference when they saw my non-itemized receipt (red flag), and matched it up to the receipt the bartender made for me. I was indeed charged for drinks I didn't order. Maybe I'm getting too old for the nightlife in Davis. But also, I'm only 24. Still, WunderBar makes me feel like I should rethink my night activities sometimes. On a good night, G Street is great - their DJ is awesome, the bar has amazing and cheap drinks (Skittle Bombs, anyone?), and there's a ton of seating for when you don't want to stand around. G Street is divided into two, with pool and arcade games on one side and a dance floor on the other. Both sides have a bar, which is awesome - there is rarely a wait for your drink. The security/bouncers there can be awful, on occasion. They wear "Make Davis Great Again" hats, which is... interesting. They're also the only bar in Davis that I know of that uses metal detectors on you (implemented after the stabbing at Ket). Oftentimes, they are fine, but on a bad day, you're going to be annoyed and wonder why you ever even came to G Street. All in all, it's a good bar on the weekends. Not bad for a college town bar on Monday night. Clean, lots of space. Pool tables. Trivia on Mondays. (It starts at 9 which is a little late for me, but it's still fun.) It's a BBQ joint so he ready for some meaty good times. They got my order wrong which is ok because it was something I was debating getting anyway. The pastrami sandwich is tasty but wicked salty fyi. Everything seemed freshly made. Great beer selection and really good prices. I've only been to G street a few times because it scared me for a while after reading some of these reviews. Honestly, it really is an A-OK bar. The happy prices are good (love a good $3 well drink) and during the day there is tons of seating. I've never gotten food here, but plan to one day! I really like it because it's one of the only places in Davis to play arcade games and pools and darts. And it's like 25 cents or 50 cents a game which is totally reasonable. I believe other reviews that say it can get pretty rowdy at night and the bouncers are strict, but in a college town where underage students are trying (and sometimes successfully) to get drinks and end up being sloppy drunks all over the place, I really don't blame them. I'm definitely glad I gave G street a second chance and will add it to my places I frequent in Davis. It's basically the local dive bar of Davis and you get exactly that vibe from it which is definitely fun to hangout at. read more

Honestly, my friends and I used to love coming here. The service was always great and the drinks were reasonable and the atomosphere was fun. However, the last time we (my group of girls and I) were there, we witnessed several older gentleman groping and being extremely creepy toward another group of young (college age) girls. Additionally, these same men continued to come up to my group and I and tried to engage in conversation and touch us despite all of us not engaging with them. We notified the workers that we felt unsafe with them in the bar, and they did absolutely nothing. My friends and I are all UC Davis students, and now none of us including our male friends feel safe coming back. It's really too bad, wunderbar is such an iconic Davis spot. Unfortunately they care more about maintaining customer rapport with predatorial men then they do college kids just trying to enjoy their night. Ladies, be warned. I've been here a few times but most recently I came here with a few friends. We came on a Monday night and it was definitely not packed at all. There were a few people at the bar, but most of the people were playing pool (bonus point). 2 of my friends and I ordered the Manhattan Monday. I didn't like it at all because it was a mix of brandy and whiskey and another thing. Was really strong and I overheard the bartender say that this drink wasn't really for the ladies. But oh well, a drink is a drink and my housemate and I don't waste food/drinks at all so we chugged it! Good thing it was in a martini glass and there was a cherry waiting for us at the end. I really like how they have a few pool tables and arcade games there as well. I don't play pool often nor am I that good at it but it was really fun playing while being a bit buzzed. This is a cute divey place to come hang out with friends, it reminds me of a bar back in my home town so I feel right at home when I come here lol. The drinks are relatively cheap, although I noticed sometimes they're not as strong as they could be (I've had some fairly watery whiskey-sours here...) but overall cool place to chill. Decent choice of draft beers, arcade games and billiards in the back. The bar is a pretty large sized area with plenty of seating. There are long tables so several people and parties can fit onto one row. The bartender that took care of us during our visit was overwhelmed and in the weeds but still served us with a smile and was attentive to our needs. We ordered the mac & cheese w/ pulled pork - in my opinion, a 3/5, could have used some more BBQ sauce or something to make the pulled pork a little more moist but when accompanied by beer, it's not a HUGE deal. Skip the poutin fries - the gravy appears and tastes gelatinous and you can probably order something else on the menu that would settle better in your tummy. I have yet to attend the trivia nights but from what I hear second-hand, they're awesome. Will have to stop by sometime and write an updated review. All in all, a cool place to hang out and chill for a round or two. One thing I did notice was that there was no music playing at all in the background. I thought that was odd. Nope, please skip this place. There is not much of a selection in this town, but please please please skip this place. They don't have drinks as advertised. We went on a Tuesday night for karaoke and it was a lot of fun. Unfortunately their policies and staff are a huge problem. This place could easily be a five star place if they showed their customers more respect. Their policy on bags/backpacks are arbitrary (purses allowed but man's small handbags are not? My male friend put his handbag inside our female friends purse to get in). They are also extremely rude if you stay until closing. They sold us a pitcher of beer at 1:18, ended karaoke at 1:20 and then aggressively kicked us out at 1:30. I normally do not post on yelp but I am here to describe a violating encounter with one of wunderbar's staff members. Last night at Funk night I was groped by one of wunderbar's security guards. I was on the stage where a security guard with long hair was overtly touchy and lingering for attention. I do not wish to share the details, but his actions were sincerely out of the scope of his duties to merely manage people. It left me feeling harassed and aggrieved. I immediately left Wunderbar once I got off the stage. This is a college town, with many unaware young college women, and this bar is yet another unsafe place. Nothing like this has ever happened during my four years at Davis, and luckily I was instinctual enough to leave immediately.
