Grateful this place was open last night for dinner despite the 4th of July holiday. Spacious and clean, nicely air conditioned, a screensaver of nature on the tv screens, medium loud music in Spanish. Our server was very pleasant and attentive, refilling our waters before we asked. I ordered mango smoothie and a seco de pollo and my friend ordered a caldo de gallina (Ecuadorian chicken soup) and a side salad. Our food came out hot and delicious in about 20 minutes. Very satisfying. The sauce on my chicken (seco de pollo) was rich and savory, the rice perfectly cooked and the fried plaintains perfection. If I lived in the area, I'd become a regular! read more

Wow, I am digging this place, in a great area of E Lake St. Galapagos Bar and Grill offers nothing but a clean, spacious, and welcoming place to hang out and have some amazing food. This is the kind of establishment where the food speaks for itself, and there is a lot of it on your plate. Humitas - These corn tamales are just as good, maybe even better than Chimborazo's. If you have a group of four or so, get these so all can have a bite, and you won't get filled up before your entree arrives. Patacones - We loved these! Who doesn't love mashed fried plantains? Add the cheese to them, you won't be sorry. Arepas Con Carnitas - These were wonderful. Two on a plate, and could honestly be a whole meal. I can't recall what the sauce was on them, but that was quite good. Carne Apanada o Asada - This was enjoyable. the breaded steak (round steak I think?) was unadorned with any sauce. I was a bit concerned this was going to be dry, but adding some of the rice and beans to your fork made it plenty good. Speaking of beans. I have no idea how they make them or what ingredients they use, but these really are the best beans I have ever eaten in MPLS. They are so good that I would just order a bowl of these beans and a couple of arepas and be perfectly content. Please support this restaurant and stop in for lunch/dinner. The food was great! I really enjoyed the authentic flavor! They had few options for me. I'm the dietary restriction unicorn. But still, I'm usually good to get tacos on corn tortillas. These were flavorful. The drink was kinda weak but tasty. The service was cool, I did feel like they didn't feel like checking on some of the dietary things on my behalf which usually makes my experience less than enjoyable. This review is for the Peruvian ceviche take-out order. I think I found the best one in town. I ordered two ceviches for potluck. It was fresh. Perfect amount of lime and everything else. This was my first time at Galápagos, and after our wonderful experience, I will surely be back! We started with the empanadas de verde, the beef and cheese empanadas, and plantains with cheese. All of the appetizers were seasoned well and delicious, but not overly filling! I really recommend the cilantro dipping sauce with them. You also can't go wrong with any of their drink specials. For our entrees, we got the churrasco and the encocado mixto. The churrasco sirloin was tender and the egg cooked to order, but the real show stopper was the tomato sauce the sirloin and veggies were cooked in. It was truly an incredible experience. I also loved the brightness of the plantain, which was perfectly sweet. Though I'm not typically a fan of seafood, the encocado was amazing and I enjoyed how the creamy coconut sauce paired with the shrimp. I offered a bite of the churrasco to my mom and she said she already was already having the perfect meal. Very high praises. Was craving some savory Ecuadorian food and this place was worth the visit. Ordered the Seco de Carne (beef stew platter) and it came with some protein, sweet plantains, rice, and a side salad. Man was it delicious! My partner ordered the Churrasco platter and that was a flavorful meal too. For the appetizer we ordered Salchipapas which was a bowl of crispy fries and sliced hot dogs. I loved my meal. I went at 2pm and got the vegetarian omelet (I'm keto, so it was that it the Buffalo wings or a basic salad). The omelet was more like a scrambled egg mix, but it was amazing, delicious, and piping hot. It had onions, peppers, and tomatoes (probably pico de Gallo, so even better, IMHO). I added cheese on top. I'll was pleased there was no filler to the meal like potato or toast or pancake. Just a ton of eggs mixed with veggies. My husband had a hard time choosing what to pick, and ended up with the churrasco meal. It has a couple pieces of beef steak mixed with a tomato sauce, served with white rice, sweet plantain, avocado, French fries, and a fried egg. Honestly, I never thought of a fried egg on white rice, but it looked good as hell. The fries seemed out of place but I still thought the Ella looked fantastic. He gave his overall meal a 7/10 while I give mine a 11/10. And the house made hot sauce was amazing. I would go back just for that. read more

We came for dinner one night and so glad we stumbled upon this place! The server Recommended a speciality cocktail to my husband and he loved it! The cocktail menu looked really good but since I'm pregnant - I stuck to the shakes. I ended up getting a fruit shake and it was very good! My husband for the churrasco and enjoyed it. I got the endocado de camaron and it was delicious! The shrimp was juicy and the sauce was great. We asked for hot sauce and this really helped bring up the spice level. I was not a fan of the green plaintain so next time, I'll probably ask for them to leave that out. Service was great. We were able to find street parking nearby and walk over as there was construction right outside the building that day. read more

Fantastic little Ecuadorian spot on Lake Street. We sat outside on the sidewalk watching the cars go by. We ordered humitas, seco de carne, pollo apanado, and a shake. We both liked the pollo apanado the best. The chicken breast was unexpectedly moist, crispy, and nicely seasoned. It came with generous portions of rice and beans, with a little salad and fried plantain. The rice and beans were also flavorful. Perhaps the rice was cooked with broth. The seco de carne was also layered with spices we couldn't identify, in perhaps a tomato base. The meat was a little dry, but the combination of sauce, rice, salad, and plantain was delicious. We never had humitas before. It's a slightly sweet steamed corn cake, piping hot. Very filling and enjoyable. We also enjoyed the Ecuadorian fruit-flavored shake prepared with water, which was kind of like a frozen virgin cocktail. The service was friendly and attentive. It's nice to have an Ecuadorian place close enough to my house to get takeout, with an outdoor dining option. We're definitely going back to try the soups and dishes with yuca! read more

I just moved to the neighborhood & this is my *second* time eating at Galapagos! I've ordered pick-up both times & each time I was greeted by a friendly face & my order was ready! The first time there I had the Bandeja Paisa & this time I had the Chaulafan (pictured). The proteins of each dish were cooked perfectly. I was impressed that the chicken, steak, shrimp in the Chaulafan were all tender & juicy. Portions are quite generous & one entree was enough for two of us to share!
