Visited 10/18/25. Victor's is a south MPLS staple! Such a good breakfast spot that stands out from the rest. If you're there on the weekends or with a group larger than 2, prepare for a wait, especially in the colder season but it's worth it I promise! So much fun character in the decor as a whole and always the best energy inside. I find myself always taking friends here to "introduce" it to them. This time I got the cold brew which was easy to drink but they had quite a few drink options. Their juices are also phenomenal. I've tried a few things here but I always come back to the Dia y noche (eggs rice beans plantains with a creole sauce) with the upgrade of Cuban toast with guava jam. If there's one recommendation I can consistently make it's to always upgrade to the Cuban toast. It's incomparable. The sauces here also are wonderful and make each meal shine. Genuinely my favorite breakfast/brunch in the entire Twin Cities metro! Victor's is a small place--maybe a dozen or so tables?--but man is the food delicious! If you go on a weekend, expect a wait, but it's so worth it. To start with the coffee, you can't go wrong with any of their espresso drinks--they're all delicious and made with their house-made sugar paste, and with any espresso drink, you can get topped up on drip coffee afterwards so it's SUCH a good deal. My go-to is the cafecito ($3.95), which is simply espresso with the sugar paste. For the food, you genuinely cannot go wrong with any of their Breakfast Cubano options, but regardless of what you get--pay the upcharge for cuban toast (+$1.25) with guava jam (+$.35). TRUST. My number one go-to as far as entrees is the arroz a la cubana ($15.95). 2 eggs, white rice, sweet plaintains, and yuca frita. Sounds simple but I genuinely cannot overstate how insanely good this is--the mojo sauce they put on the yuca is one of the best things I've tasted in my life and it's DIVINE topped with some of the house hot sauce they have on the tables. It's also a non-negotiable to get the mango pancake! At $7.25 for a large, it's a steal, because that thing is MASSIVE and packed with fruit. They have a itty bitty parking lot that literally fits two cars, but there's plenty of free street parking available--even on the busiest of days, I've never had to park further than a block away. This is a Twin Cities staple located in the Kingfield neighborhood. Parking is available via the street. When busy you can have a little bit of a walk but it's a neighborhood so it's a good area with some shops near by. Also, they are busy and it's first come first serve so plan on a wait. They do a great job of getting people in and out. The wait is never terrible and they are good communicators. They are known for their Cuban dishes and coffees. This is easily one of my favorite breakfast spots, as well as serving some great lunch dishes as well. The food here is really flavorful & quite delightful. Victors is also woman-owned & they have been featured on the Food Network twice which is neat! They are open Wednesday - Sunday 9am-2:30pm. Victor's 1959 Cafe popped up on my radar when looking up restaurants to try in the Twin Cities. None other than Guy Fieri said that this is the best Cuban sandwich he has ever had. Add to the fact that this place is almost next door to where I was staying and I knew I had to stop by. This place is small so the first time I went I ordered a Sandwich Cubano and Cortadito coffee to go. The coffee was on point but the sandwich blew me away. I couldn't believe how good it was. The ham was top notch and the pulled pork was so flavorful and tender. This was beyond my expectations. I knew I had to go back and try something else. Two days later I arrived shortly after opening to dine in. Only about a 15-20 minute wait but well worth it. This time I decided to try the Ropa Vieja and a chocolate con leché. The Ropa Vieja was very good but this time I had some of the homemade hot sauce to add to my rice and beans and that took it next level. I always like to order a Sandwich Cubano to go before I head to the airport on my way home. The only downside to this place is the short hours (9-2:30) and being closed on Monday/Tuesday. read more

I have had this restaurant bookmarked for many years and was truly excited to go! We walked in and didn't wait very long until a table opened up. The greeter and our server were polite and friendly. The restaurant is a bit small on the inside, maybe 8 tables total, but the ambiance is unlike any other restaurant I've been! Love the graffiti walls! As to the food, the best dishes were the Fricasee de Pollo and the empanadas. The chicken was stewed and cooked well, and I loved the olives with tomato sauce! The empanadas were stuffed full and tasted great! The other dishes had some issues that led to a somewhat unpleasant experience. The pork (Lechon Asado) was porky and this affected my overall enjoyment. The Ropa Vieja was cooked through, but the meat was not pull-apart/fork tender. Was difficult to eat and enjoy, especially the pieces I tried in a tortilla. The corn pancake came highly recommended so ordered a medium one to try. Came out looking beautiful, but the texture was claggy and had a burnt, bitter aftertaste. Not as much 'corn' flavor as I expected a Corn Pancake to have. read more

If you go on a weekend morning expect a wait, but it's worth it for the ambiance alone. Every inch of the place is covered in quick scribbles, graffiti, names, stickers, and a curious amount of bitcoin website urls? But the vibe was great. I had the Cubano which was fine but didn't land as The Best Cubano I've Ever Had however my friends' breakfast platters were huge and hit the hangover cure spot. Above all else, the service was outstanding. Although packed, our server was extremely timely with orders, drinks and food, and he made sure to check in often without being obnoxious. The restaurant is incredibly tiny so you'll be placed on a waiting list and likely have to stand outside. We came during lunch on a Wednesday and had about a 20 min wait but thankfully it was a relatively mild winter day so it wasn't bad! The wait is absolutely worth it!! Ever since going to Little Havana in Miami (the closest I've gotten to authentic Cuban food, I'll get there someday), I had been craving some Cuban deliciousness. As soon as I saw Ropa Vieja on the menu, I. Was. Sold. I ended up ordered a beef empanada, the Lechon, shared a cubano sandwich with my nephew, and he also ordered the hash. It was a ton of food! We left with a lot of great eats for dinner and filled to the brim tummies. The Lechon had really great flavor and was incredibly juicy, same with the cubano! A friend recommended this spot and I'm so glad I went. It's a tiny little spot in the southwest part of Minneapolis. It might be no exaggeration to say that Victor's 1959 Cafe is my favorite breakfast / brunch spot in Minnesota. There truly is something for everyone, ranging from the meat lovers to the vegetarians (fewer options for vegans). Their food is delicious. They are affordable. They have decorations and vibe that screams down with the people. They have many options on the menu that make one eager to return to try new items. Simply the perfect brunch spot. To start, rice and black beans is simply a classic combination that one should always have on their repertoire. It is not conventionally regarded as fancy food but it will always do you right, tasting good, providing health benefits, and serving other types of food (like meat) justice as complements. Then the plantains, you need to have them if you are in a Cuban (or even Latin American in general) restaurant. Along with yuca bites, plantains are must-haves. Now the meat: I have had ropa vieja and picadillo before and I will strongly recommend ropa vieja because the shredded texture together with the "falling apart" quality of the flank steak is just too pleasant to ignore. Picadillo is good as well. It's just the flank steak vs. ground beef argument here. Sandwich Cubano is their staple. The combination of roasted ham and pulled pork, combined with cheese, mustard and pickles, can provide people with a juxtaposition of flavors that gives savory a new dimension of saltiness (pickles). The pickle flavor is very eminent, which can be a hit or miss depending on the consumers, but I say if you are in a Cuban restaurant, you should adjust your taste buds to experience the value of the flavor combination with Sandwich Cubano. If you are just looking for breakfast, they always have solid options that combine beans / eggs / plantain / more, depending on your combination preferences. The main difference between their breakfast dishes and entrees is that most breakfast dishes have eggs, basically. There are so many items I have yet to try there that I really want to, such as their ceviché, their paella, their flan, and even their champagne mojito. I will for sure return because of all this! One major factor for all to consider is that they are extremely popular, which means lining up and waiting will be inevitable, especially during brunch / lunch time on weekends. Victor's is (I feel like I say this every review) one of my favorite spots in the Cities. I think I've only ever been for their brunch menu, but it keeps me coming back! We came on a Saturday around 12:30 and waited probably 20-30 minutes for a table, which wasn't terrible. Once we were sat, our server was awesome; he was super attentive without being intrusive & gave us some really good recommendations, since we had a couple of folks who were going for the first time. I really haven't had anything bad here, ever. The breakfast plates are all delicious (you can't go wrong with rice, beans, eggs, yucca, & plantains). I also really enjoy their coffee selection. If you need some quiet time to stare at something, the walls covered in graffiti and stickers are excellent for zoning out. It's honestly incredible how every square inch seems to be covered! I stopped in here yesterday for lunch after having passed by it numerous times. Parking seems to be street only but really was not that hard to find. Entering the restaurant was a trip. First of all it is just filled with writing all over everything. We were greeted when we first came in and servers where quick to attend to our every need. When we stopped in at about one, the place was fairly full. You can here a low chatter bouncing off the walls from anywhere in the place. I ordered the Pan con Lechon with the Cafe con Burbujas while my guest ordered the 'Love' Cuban Pork BBQ Sandwich /w cole slaw and the Iced Cafe con Leche. Both were awesome! I might rethink that next time bc I think the steak was not as plentiful (as I've seen on Yelp photos) as when it's coupled with the rice. I liked the combo so I may get it on the side next time. The flavor was very good and I wouldn't hesitate to order again. My friend liked her Dia y Noche but would have liked to have added cheese. The black beans were good, packed with flavor. This might be my new favorite place! We built up an appetite after a walk in the rose gardens and since it was just the two of us the wait was only about 15 minutes. Mind you this is a Sunday at noon so wait times might get long depending on when you go/how big your party is. We sat at a table inside where the walls were covered in handwritten messages and drawings. I had the hardest time deciding on what to get, breakfast or lunch? After changing my mind many times, I went with the Lechon Asado; pulled pork in lime juice and garlic with a rice and beans mixture and a side of yucca fries. The pork was sooooo flavorful and perfectly tender. I wish I could give it 100 stars! I came for Dining Out For Life and had the best experience. It started with an amazing server Madison who greeted me when I came in. She was genuine and warm and pointed me to a table that had more room as I'm a big guy. She was upbeat and patient and allowed me time to look. She complimented my choices and mentioned that what I ordered was one of her favorites. I haven't been here in awhile and was reminded of how much I loved the vibe. Joe, the Dining Out For Life Ambassador came over and was so endearing how could I NOT make a donation. The food was exceptional, as always, but what resonated the most for me was the service from everyone working , especially Madyson! She took time to connect with every table offering a tailored and personalized interaction. This is not the norm in the service industry. She checked in on me and I was so touched by the experience that I asked if I could give Madyson a hug. It has been just one of those weeks and she made things feel better. This review is for breakfast/brunch selections. We had an amazing experience at Victor's. If you have a choice between inside or outside seating, you must experience the inside. It puts the "dives" in DDD. Don't forget to bring a sharpie so you can sign the wall. The restaurant is humble inside but it gives a friendly vibe that you just can't deny. The walls are yellow and covered in sharpie autographs. This only adds to the experience because it only gets better. We put our names on the list on a Saturday brunch and wait only 10 minutes to sit inside. Our server came by immediately with water and asked if we wanted anything else to drink. They don't have a full bar, but their mimosas were delish and also an incredible Cuban coffee selection. The Cuban breakfasts are second to none. The Sandwicg Cubano at Victor's is one of the best sandwiches in Minneapolis. The Cuban bread is soft and crisp on the outside, the pulled pork is incredibly tender, and the pickles and mustard add the perfect amount of acidity. This sandwich is a MUST GET every time you go. Wow. I used to love this place but I think the staff have become really rude. Service can totally ruin your entire experience. I was the first one there of our group around 1pm and I just wanted to glance to see if my friends were there already, as soon as I did this the woman in pigtail buns rudely shouted over and over and over "talk to the host. Talk to the host. Talk to the host. Talk to the host." It was very odd behavior and really aggressive. I finally shouted back "I'm just looking for my friends!!" And at that point I walked to the vintage store to just get away from her. My friends arrived and we were talking about to sit in or outside and we were apparently too slow for ANOTHER staff as she shouted at us to go inside and talk to the host (I truly mean they were rude, aggressive, and yelling at us). My friends were horrified just as I was. So the male host came up and was rude too!!! He had zero patience even though there were empty tables and no one else waiting to be seated. I asked him how long he thinks a table might open in the shade (a normal question to answer as I used to be a host and server, too) and he looked at us like we were stupid and said "I don't know. It depends how long it takes people to eat." I wanted to laugh at his bitter answer because it was so shocking. So we then sat down inside because we didn't want to continue a pointless uncomfortable conversation with the host and it was overwhelming with the rudeness. We decided to pick our battles and it wasn't worth arguing with him. We were all upset by it. Then our server seemed fine but THEN we had barely been eating and she brings us the bill and clearly is trying to push us to move along and she kept looking at the check to an uncomfortable amount that we couldn't even enjoy our meals. We laughed when she did this because we were just feeling like OF COURSE she does that - it was fitting with the energy in the place. We were there WELL before close and it was extremely rude again. We still tipped because we are bigger people than that but I look back and don't honestly feel they deserve to even work there. I can't believe I only recently discovered the slice of heaven that is Victor's 1959 Cafe! I was craving a sandwich cubano, and Victor's was the top result in the area. I placed a pick-up order online, parked in the convenient 15-minute parking space, and when I got to the bar my order was ready! The sandwich cubano is absolutely fantastic. The ham has a nice, sweet, smoky flavor, and the pulled pork is slow roasted and cooked to perfection. I opted for no cheese (sadly), but the mustard and pickles tie everything together on the soft Cuban bread. The sandwich is pretty expensive at $16.50, but it was so worth it after only a few bites. It's my first time since the pandemic and I gotta say, the ropa vieja is still amazing and worth my reminisce. The plantains has just the right amount to sweetness, rice and beans that aren't too dry or soggy, and juicy slow braised pulled flank steak = Deliciosos! Due to their limited open hours post-pandemic, I never quite found a chance to visit or order delivery, but after much reminiscing and failed attempts to visit.. I finally managed to order online the night before for next morning pickup. Then as usual, I got caught up at work and totally missed the time I was supposed to pick it up. Eventually, I made time to do a quick drive up thanks to the friendly staff who rang me up and reminded of my food that has been waiting like forever. My friend and I had breakfast at Victor's 1959 Café a few weeks ago when we were visiting Minneapolis for Memorial Day weekend. It's so cute - we sat at their great outside seating! We arrived just as they opened, and that's what I recommend you do, too! It's popular, and there will be a wait for a table if you arrive later for brunch on a weekend! If you're a morning person like me, just get there when they open! I had the Eggs Havana (2 eggs, black beans, Creole sauce, fried yucca with mojo sauce, and Cuban bread). I liked it - especially with their salsa over it - but I thought the black beans were a little watery and I wish they had at least doubled up the amount of mojo sauce on the fried yucca! My friend had the Ranchero Cubano, which she enjoyed. The service was great, and the restaurant is just so cozy and comfortable. A friend and I came in on a Saturday morning and got on the waitlist. I thought it was odd that they said they weren't able to give us an estimate for how long it might be because "it depends how long people take to eat"... yes, but other restaurants seem to have this figured out. Just give us something, an average, 15 minutes is very different from 2 hours. We walked to get coffee and then checked back in after probably 30 minutes and were able to be seated. Cuban hash was just ok. The Victor's 1959 hot sauce was not spicy at all (not even MN spicy) or flavorful. Our server was nice but WOW one of the other servers was unnecessarily rude to customers (aggressively telling them they were in the way and to move) and told us we needed to leave because they had a long wait after we paid our bill. I understand they're busy but having an attitude with guests is wild. I worked in hospitality for 8 years and would have absolutely not been allowed to speak to guests that way. read more
