Maria's is such a great place. I went for the first time a few weeks ago and am so excited to go back. The place is a little hard to find, because it is inside of another building (front door is currently locked). If you follow the signs though it's pretty simple. The cafe is cute and very cozy. Feels like a childhood memory of going to breakfast with my grandma. Service is very prompt and attentive! The menu is so large and varied. They have all day breakfast, many Columbian dishes, and lots of vegetarian options. I got Giovanni's Breakfast Wrap and it was so good. Love that it comes with vegetarian sausage without an up-charge! It also lasted me two meals, which was awesome. I am so excited to go back and try more of the menu! This was a good but somewhat interesting visit! For our first time, the food was pretty good. We tried a couple different plates and they were all pretty flavorful. Our server was pretty absent, however. I never got a water refill and we were charged for a soda that my table hadn't ordered. I'm not sure if this is typical for the restaurant, but all three of our orders were placed on one tab. We all have Venmo so it's not a big deal, but it was a bit interesting. I think the differences between the dishes listed in the main menu and the ones listed under "Colombian & Regional Specialties" were pretty vast, because everything within the latter category was a hit while most of what I had within the former were okay or simply had moments of highlights instead of consistent highlights. To start off, the chocolate Colombiano had very rich milk which definitely enhanced the experience in my opinion, because it did not taste watery at all like how a lot of hot chocolate would. Both the paisa bowl and the calentao con huevos were very similar, with one major difference as that the paisa bowl had chincharron. One couldn't go wrong with either one, because both contained a lot of food. The rice and pinto beans themselves tasted very good already, so to complement them with an egg and the ají sauce was a big plus. The paisa bowl had avocado as well in addition to the chincharron, so I think between the two, the paisa bowl would be a better choice. The arepas rellenas and empanadas were both huge hits! Flavors were on point and the amount wasn't overwhelming. One also has to dip the empanadas in the ají sauce because it would completely change the culinary experience in a very positive way. Outside the "Colombian & Regional Specialties Menu" I ordered the corn pancakes and blueberry pancakes. Both were great, and I could taste the sweet corn element in the corn pancakes. They just didn't have highlights beyond good. The huevos pericos was merely okay because the scrambled eggs were a bit sloppily made and it wasn't clear what the single piece of tortilla was for, because it definitely wasn't enough for the eggs offered. Another observation I made was that it seemed to have cheddar cheese on top of the eggs, and I am not certain if that's an accurate representation of Colombian cuisine. I could be wrong here, though. Overall, I still think this establishment is a modest gem of a place for a good brunch, especially on the weekend. One will need to follow signs in order to find the place, but the signs were pretty clear. What used to be a parking lot for the spot seemed to be under gentrification efforts building apartments, so I ended up having to park on the street when I visited in late November. read more

Very much enjoyed our Sunday brunch at Maria's Cafe. Since we were trying to fit a lot into one day of sightseeing, I called and made a reservation. Service from my initial call for a reservation through to the end of the meal was welcoming. After figuring out how to get into the cafe (learning how Minneapolis manages access to buildings when much of the year is quite cold), we enjoyed the sunshine streaming in the windows and piping hot coffee. As one who is always on a quest to find the perfect corn pancakes, I had to try a Cachapas Venezolanas (with syrup). Instead of being made with cornmeal, it had kernels of corn within a seemingly typical pancake batter--the center was a bit soft. Our server helpfully noted that two pancakes might lead to a bit leftover, but one pancake might want to be paired with something. One pancake and an egg add-on was perfect for me! Another diner enjoyed the Penelope's Ripe Plantain pancakes (also with an egg). A third diner enjoyed Maria's Colombian Huevos Pericos--terrific blue-corn tortillas! And the fourth diner enjoyed a special, which came with two eggs, beans, potatoes, sausage, and a yuca cake. read more

Amazing corn pancakes (cachapas)! I get this every time I go. And they are better with the cotija cheese. I don't love the other pancakes I've tried. This time, I tried a ripe plantain pancake too, and though it was ok, I wouldn't order it again. I also tried the pandequeso, which is similar to a Brazilian cheese bread but in a donut ring shape. It was fine, but I prefer the Brazilian version. My friend loved her Colombian Huevos Pericos - a seasoned scrambled eggs dish. The place itself feels a bit run down, though it was crowded when I visited, which gave me hope. I ordered Maria's Breakfast (Number 7), which included huevos pericos. As Colombian, I have to say these were not authentic huevos pericos. The eggs were overly seasoned and ended up soggy, which also made the arepas on the side lose their crispness. Also huevos pericos don't need cheese, especially not cheddar. The salsa on the side also tasted more Mexican than Colombian. While I imagine some of the specialties on the menu might be better, this particular dish was a letdown. And for the price, it simply did not feel worth it. Rating solely on the food itself. We came to Minneapolis for a staff retreat and my coworkers decided to eat here and bring me back some corn pancakes. When I say this has got to be one of the best pancakes I've EVER had in my life, I meant it. Think of it as a very rich cornbread but in pancake form. The flavors were intense and I inhaled the huge pancake in two seconds! It came with Cotija cheese and maple syrup. You have to add both as the cheese cuts the sweetness of the corn and the maple syrup and provides a umami taste. It was hot, fresh, and I am a corn lover and it made my whole day! The corn was so juicy that every time I took a bite, juices came out. I'm home now in Florida and when I tell you that I'm still dreaming about those corn pancakes, I am! I've had this place on my list for awhile. Finally checked it out this a.m. Met my friend for lunch for our endless tour around the cities to find different places. Entrance is very odd. There are three doors basically to access the restaurant, but all closed- you have to walk through the buildings main entrance to finally get in. Restaurant is much bigger than it looks from the outside. Food ordered: Columbian breakfast- fried egg, pinto beans and rice, chorizo link and an arepa. The arepa was very dry. Went here for Mother's Day for their brunch. The place is really big in the vibrant lake street area of midtown. They have three rooms for seating and one of the rooms had some live music too. It was really busy but we had a reservation and we were seated right away. The wait staff was very attentive and helpful. They have the standard brunch items plus some Columbian regional specialities being served. The kids ordered mango and strawberry pancakes. We also ordered some eggs and French toast as well as Calentao con Huevos, Paisa Bowl (Bandeja Paisa), Empanadas and Pandequeso (Columbian cheese bread). The food took a while to come but when it arrived, it didn't disappoint. The Columbian dishes were the highlight. The pancakes with the fruit mixed into the batter were also a hit. The French toast was ok. Nothing special. The Columbian cheese bread was a little dry. Everything else tasted very good. We really enjoyed the empanadas. The mimosa was very good as well. You could tell it was made with fresh orange juice. Well. I hate having to write a bad review but our experience here on Sunday November 2nd 2025 was unacceptable. It started normal, pleasant even, but after the checks were paid and we were finishing our drinks, we were told by a staff member that "there's a lot of people, can you please stand at the counter to pay?" It's nice inside - we sat at the diner-like bar, because I love a diner-like bar! The service was great. However, once we were in the dining area, it was better than we had imagined. The breakfast potatoes was first diced up and today was horrible they just sliced the potatoes up however and they were burnt as well and they tax for literally everything sauce is an extra almost three dollars. Today was my first day interning at non-profit company and I was so excited to learn that we would be treated to lunch from Maria's Cafe today. After thoroughly checking through the variety of menu choices, I ordered the 1/3 Burger with cheese, and it came with tomatoes, lettuce, and pickles. I was under the impression that the pickles would be placed on the burger, but it was a quartered pickle that is included in the meal. I just used the cutlery provided and cut it up into thin slices and placed it on my burger. To complete your meal, you had the option selecting American Fries, so I opted in. Rather than the American Fries I'm sure you're envisioning too, they are thinly sliced potatoes- with a texture similar to scalloped potatoes. The burger was juicy and quite enjoyable, and I also enjoyed the potatoes adding mayonnaise and ketchup to both the burger and fries. I would definitely order again, and I am excited to explore the rest of their menu items. The vegetarian menu is small, but it seems that they have something for everyone. read more

My girlfriend and I went for brunch on our way out of town. We got the blueberry pancakes, which were absolutely great. I got the burrito, very authentic. Great shredded beef that was tender and had good flavor. Their homemade salsa is to die for, great flavor with a little kick that sits on the tongue and goes away after a minute. My girlfriend got the two eggs and bacon, however they were a little bland. Coffee was really good. Our only negative experience is that there was a person hanging around and going to every table asking for money while everyone was eating and the staff didn't bother to do anything about it. He was probably for a good 15-20 minute before letting himself out after no one gave him money. read more
