Man I want to love this place, heck I tried really hard to love this place, but at the end of the day there was just too much wrong and not enough right. Lets start with the good: 1. Great location. For those of us that live in the northern Westerville/Genoa Twp. area this is a perfect spot for a weekend brunch with the family. Something about driving further north away from the Polaris crush just feels good. The small-town charm is heavy with this place and in the spring and summer its great to eat a big meal then take a short walk down the mudflats boardwalk. 2. Good Menu: good selection of breakfast and brunch items, has all the staples plus a few surprises. The bad: 1. The Food: Extremely inconsistent. The home fries vary from being soggy to burnt to a crisp. I get the impression that they're done in too large of batches on the flat-top leading some to be steamed and some to be burnt. The french toast while marked as a "favorite" is really just the cheapest bread you could buy in a store and slapped on a griddle - by the time it gets to the table its already a soggy mess. And finally eggs - the heartbeat of any breakfast place. Someone needs to inform the cook that there is a difference between over-easy, over medium, and over hard, no matter what you say, they always come out the same. 2. The Service: this is what really turned me off to the place. In a small town like Galena you expect there to be regulars and you expect them to be treated well, but not at the expense of new guests. The waitresses seem to run the ship and were consistently rude and forgetful. Our drinks were consistently empty, decaf coffee was switched to regular, and we received the wrong food multiple times. As you might be able to tell from my review we've gone here for breakfast at least 5-6 times and even brought out of town guests with us several times because the location is fun - but i've finally run out of excuses for the inconsistent food and rude waitstaff. Delaney's Diner in westerville has good food and great staff, but a poor location - my search for a combination of both is still in the works. read more

First off, they get at least 6 stars from me. They are known for putting out water for cyclist, and I appreciate it. We finally visited for dinner after wanting to go for at least 6 years. Fish and chips were really good and big. I think everybody to join me enjoyed their food as well. read more

Beautiful sunny spring weather yesterday got me out exploring around Hoover Reservoir brought me into "downtown" Galena. I entered this great homey little small town diner and found a seat at one of the many tables in the main room. The decor here, pure smalltown americana, clean , open and simple. Many of the tables were occupied by locals enjoying coffee and chatter and mix of travelers, fishermen and me. Greeted in good time I took some time to look thru the large breakfast menu and moderate amount of good lunch and dinner choices. My freshly brewed iced tea arrived and I decided on a grilled, blackened fish sandwich with a side of potato salad, one of their chalkboard daily specials. Both were freshly prepared, well portioned and delicious. This fish was spiced perfectly, not overpowering like some I have had prepared as such. Overall this is a friendly litle family run diner that makes it a great stop to top off your tummy at the top of Hoover. Good food, good prices, good times. read more

New owner of the Galena diner thus the review. Fast ticket times, good employees and a more simple menu. All of this adds up to a much more enjoyable experience. The food is of better quality. Home made soups are fantastic. The specials have been good. Home made salad dressings are excellent. I was at this restaurant the day it opened years ago under the original owner. In the years since this place sadly had declined. I can say with all assurance the Galena diner is back and the food and service are better than ever. The new owner is exploring natural and non gmo foods. I think the future is bright for the diner. I would recommend to those who had lost confidence over the years to try it again. I will be again eating at the Galena diner regularly again. Bravo to the more simple menu and much improved food quality. I travel all over the world and eat out in many different places. Galena, OH's business district is not a block long; really just a crossroads. This chipper little diner has outdoor seating on the small town square. Two small daughters and I rolled in for a brunch on the 4th of July. They were closing but seated us anyways. Friendly service. So disappointed! Staff was friendly and helpful but for a diner, the Sunday morning breakfast was poor. The grits were the only saving grace. The bacon was rubbery and eggs were just eggs. The breakfast sandwich came without cheese, lettuce and tomato like the menu stated and was just on white toast (not sourdough). We could have done better making breakfast at home. We ordered takeout this evening and I wanted to try their burger. Their burgers are 8 oz and we got the one with two 4 oz patties. It was wonderful. This place has really improved since new owners took over a while back. I had possibly the best veggie omelet ever the other day! The omelet was filled with delicious vegetables, not just a teasing like you often get. Also, their broasted chicken is outstanding! An experience bad enough to not sit down. Cute spot, next to one of our favorite dive bars. Walk in, wait at the front like normal human beings. After 6 minutes someone said they were cleaning off a table. We wait a few more minutes, the people behind us tell one of the servers that they're going to go seat themselves, hopping us in line, no rebuttal from the server. We wait longer and eventually a sever rudely tells us we can go sit at a dirty table until they're ready............ nah, son. IMO, regardless of industry, treating people with respect is paramount to anything else; food, cute decor, nice little town. Disheartening and unfortunate. I love this place. Been eating here for many years. Best fried chicken in town, and I love fried chicken, especially on Friday night. But I was supremely disappointed by recent experience at the restaurant, and they may have lost me permanently as a loyal customer. Arrived on Friday night at 7:43 PM. 17 minutes before closing time!! I had driven more than 20 minutes to get there. I was very much looking forward to my Friday night dinner at the Galena Diner! But it was not to be. When I arrived and walked in the open front door, there were four people working inside the restaurant, including the owner. Instead of being greeted with what can I do for you, I was told the restaurant was closed for the night. No explanation, other than, sorry, we closed early. I'm sorry, but if store hours are advertised as being open until 8 PM on a Friday, loyal customers who plan their evening to arrive at 7:43 PM, shouldn't be turned away 17 minutes before closing time. I routinely rave about the quality of the Galena Diner's food to everyone, and I've had them cater my large parties in the past. This is one of my favorite spots in the Westerville area. But I can no longer recommend a place that refuses to serve me during their advertised hours. I'm very disappointed in this outcome. This was not the ending I wanted. But it is, what it is. The Galena Diner has become a staple to our weekly meal planning. Breakfast every Sunday and dinner every Thursday. The employees are so kind we feel like part of the family. The food is absolutely delicious and I love how creative the chefs get with special dinners from unique burgers, crab cakes, lamb, etc. I cannot say enough about this little gem of a place. We used to go to this restaurant and were not really a fan. Didn't realize it changed ownership 2 to 3 years ago. The food is amazing now service was great. We biked there on a little chilly day and were still able to sit outside and eat. They had two different soups to choose from. The broccoli cheese soup was great. The place was continually busy, but there were seats available. Food came out in a reasonable timeframe except for one in our party who ordered eggs Benedict. Her eggs were broken, so they didn't bring it out until redone. She ordered a side of fruit which was impressive compared to most places. The owner came out to check on us, especially since we had a delay. That's how it should be handled when there's a snag.i. I had bacon, eggs, potatoes, and toast. Eggs were cooked perfectly - over medium, and potatoes had crispness and flavor. The bacon was just the way I like it - done, but not stiff. Toast could have used more color. Husband had some kind of breakfast bowl. He liked it overall. Would have liked more gravy on it, but he likes more gravy than most people, so it was probably ok for most. Our server did a pretty good job and was very pleasant. He got a little behind a couple of times, but he got an assist and recovered nicely. I wouldn't say things were perfect, but it was a much better experience than our previous few visits. We only gave it another shot due to the ownership change. It is a bit of s haul from Hilliard. What a quaint little local Diner. Went there for breakfast and certainly was not disappointed. It was a toss up of Corn Beef Hash or the Kentucky Special. So I decided to have both. I ordered the Kentucky Special and a side order of Hash. The Kentucky Special was a biscuit with sausage gravy, home fried potatoes, and two eggs. That in itself was more than enough for breakfast but then the side order of hash was anything but a "side". It was enough to share with 3. Needless to say you certainly should not ever leave hungry. We have ate here before for lunch. Food was excellent. We visited the restaurant last Friday night for all you can eat fish. Galena is not a very friendly parking town with limited handicap parking. The one handicap parking spot in front of their restaurant was being used by their business van, which did not move the whole time we were in Galena. Being disabled this was disturbing. Once we found parking spot and managed to get inside we found the restaurant very full. My wife does not like rubbing elbows with strangers which in this establishment you have no choice. The tables are so close together that you might as well be sitting next to the stranger that you have never met before. Knowing the food was very good from past experience still gave them a 3 star rating. Owner should not park in the handicap parking in consideration to disabled customers. read more

I've always liked the Galena Diner, especially for their walleye on Fridays during Lent. Unfortunately I was very disappointed tonight. First round of fish came out soggy and a little raw. The remake was only slightly better. Also underwhelmed by their $13.99 shrimp platter. It literally looked like they opened a box of Gortons popcorn shrimp and dumped it on the plate. On the upside our server was fine, apologized a few times for the poor food and gave us a free piece of cake (all of which raised their score from one star to two). Tried this place at the request of a friend. Left feeling ripped off. First the wait on a non-busy Saturday morning was insane. After 3 cups of coffee and at least a half hour, the waitress tried to fill my cup again. I said no thanks, please check on our order. Ordered the hash which comes with two eggs and toast. Added an order of sausage links. The hash was a thin smashed down mess they plopped the eggs on. Toast unbuttered. The side order of sausage links consisted of 2 tiny links. Stopped here as a turn around point in a bike ride from the Hoover dam (12.6 miles each way and a gorgeous ride). Galena is a cute little town that started as an old mill town and there is about a one block section of "downtown" and that's where the galena diner is. I ordered the Molly's Benedict thinking I would eat one muffin and force the other in my friend who "wasn't hungry". Think eggs Benedict minus Canadian bacon add real bacon and FRESH delicious tomato and spinach. Ohemgee...this was amazing...and I ate the whole dang thing! My none hungry friend ate the fruit bowl which had some yummy deliciously fresh fruit including mango and some interesting melon. The service was fast and friendly...definitely Midwest small town! There were some tables outside but they were full when I was there so we sat inside. Nothing fancy just old school diner and clean...lots of old photos on the walls to check out. Try their Molly's Benedict ~ the yummiest Bene you'll ever get ~ no ham, but a slice of tomato instead, sauteed spinach on top of the best hollandaise sauce , 2 eggs and bacon sprinkles. I eat gluten free so they so nicely accommodate this for me with a substitute of the english muffin with a bit more of the best home fries this side of the Rocky's. But this isn't all they have. A daily special, breakfast all day every day, 'Broasted Chicken' that is great, rich tasty coffee, oh, I could go on and on and on! Cute small downtown Galena breakfast and lunch joint. Nice front outside patio area - great for people watching. I got the kids French toast meal. Two slices of French toast, powdered sugar, and sausage as the protein. Our waitress new my friend my name (he bikes up for breakfast all the time).
