1-Star Review This was my first time buying from Gallery Dept. After seeing a friend's orange hat, I ordered both the orange and yellow versions. The yellow fit perfectly, but the orange arrived defective and sat awkwardly on top of my head. I exchanged it, but the replacement had the exact same issue. When I tried to return it for a refund, I was told I could only receive store credit. Now I'm stuck with credit I can't use, since there's nothing on the website I want. I spent a lot of time working on a TV shoot in South Korea this year, and almost every day on set, I'd see one or two guys wearing Gallery Dept. T-shirts. I'd never heard of the brand and might have thought it was Korean except that many of the shirts also said Hollywood, CA, and one even listed an address on Beverly like three miles from my house. Our assistant director was a guy named Sangtae who smoked constantly and kept the production running with a red Supreme megaphone. He worked hard and was endearingly shy, even as he showed up every day in what must have been thousands of dollars of brightly colored luxury gear. He had a Celine fanny pack, Balenciaga shoes, and a rotation of dramatically oversized T-shirts from various high-end brands. At least a couple of them were from Gallery Dept. The showrunner and I wanted to get Sangtae a present at the end of production, and I decided to make a visit to Gallery Dept. It was on Beverly after all, a little bit east of the Beverly Center. The storefront was somewhat hidden, with a display window showing a temporary art installation rather than any of the clothes. There was meter parking right in front. I was surprised to find that the door was locked, but I rang the bell and a doorman came and asked if I had an appointment. I did not, but after some conferring, during which I waited outside, he let me into the store. Pretty severe security, but I guess the goods are expensive. The place was spacious and easy to browse. It had a cool street art vibe, which I guess is the brand. You would never really guess that the T-shirts start at like $250. I was helped by a nice, industrious sales associate named Paisley. I explained what I was looking for (a ludicrously large T-shirt or hoodie for a lean, tall Korean man) and she brought me armloads of XXL items for my review. There were a lot of basic T-shirts and hoodies with the Gallery Dept. logo, as well as several more embellished options. I ended up going home to think about it, with a plan to look at the site and decide, then call in the order to ship to Korea. Paisley gave me her phone number. I found a stupidly expensive T-shirt, in proportion to our appreciation of Sangtae, and texted Paisley to ask how much it would cost to ship to Korea. She told me, apologetically, that it would be almost $200, at which point I decided to pick it up in person and figure out shipping on my own. Paisley wasn't there when I went back, but I was expected this time and got in without trouble, though I did wait for several minutes outside. Check-out was fast and easy, and the purchase came with a Gallery Dept. tote that said Stop Being Racist, which is probably worth a few bucks (the tote, not the advice, which is valuable but free). I asked my mom if she knew a better (cheaper) way to get a package to the motherland, and she told me she'd take care of it. After I gave her the full name, address, and birthday of the recipient, all in Korean, she packaged it up and sent it over for $9. Halmoni Postal Service, mysterious but effective. We got an email from Sangtae yesterday saying how pleased he was to get the T-shirt. He said it was wonderful and noted that he knew it wasn't easy to get into this store. I don't know that I'll be shopping here on the regular, but I'm grateful to Gallery Dept. for helping us make Sangtae happy. read more

A Los Angeles staple - definitely worth the visit, whether you're visiting or a local. LA local Owned & Black-Owned, by good People. Pretty sure you need an appointment (but that's easy). The selection in store is a lot, so my recommendation is to have a target in mind - otherwise you might get tempted by something else. They usually have everything available online, in a range of sizes in store. Trying on sizes to get the right fit has never been a problem for me here. Despite a previously bad experience (for which my review seems to have been removed) with an off colour 'white' cap & an incorrectly sized pair of jeans, both of which were expensive, I tried again. I ordered the black LA flares and instead received a dark green/bluey pair of jeans, with no sign of any black whatsoever. I'm struggling to understand how it's legal to sell items (especially expensive items) & provide wildly different products in comparison to what's advertised/ordered, and get away with It. I go for their bread and butter which is their flare denim and they always get me right by cutting and altering it to be fit just for me. 1:1 pairs and custom jeans are their specialty. It seems like good customer service is hard to find these days. I visited this location because my usual Client Advisor wasn't available and was assisted by Shadi. Unfortunately, the experience was far from pleasant--she came across as extremely fake and bitchy pardon my french. The manager, who had black hair, and short bangs was equally unprofessional. She kept staring my friend and me up and down, making us feel uncomfortable. The two of them even stood on the stairs whispering and glancing in our direction. It felt like a clique of "mean girls" was running the place, rather than a professional team. I asked for a few sizes because I wanted to shop, but Shadi made it seem like helping me was a huge inconvenience. The whole experience was uncomfortable and far from what you'd expect when spending hundreds or to be honest thousands of dollars at a store. I purchased an item for almost $700 on 12/5/23. It was a Christmas gift. However as of 12/18/23 I still had not received my item. I tried contacting the company several times (about 10) via email and phone and nothing, nada, noone, nobody returned or replied to my emails or calls. Then on 12/28/23 today, I find out that my item was shipped! Well guess what, I didn't need or want it anymore but they don't give refunds, only store credit,.,really!! In short: This is the only place I will ever tailor my designer jeans! Perfect fit, original quality, and quick turnaround time!! My $200 jeans fit like $500 ones, and Jesse is an artist! The long: I have always been skeptical about tailoring distressed and/or selvedge jeans, because in my experience, you can always tell when these jeans have been altered: the hem quality doesn't match, the distressing is gone and/or not as good, the leg hole is too wide, or the selvedge strip looks wonky. I decided to give Gallery Dept. a chance (because they came highly recommended by American Rag, cie), and they assuaged all my fears: they measured me, hemmed and tapered my pants, and added the SAME distressing pattern to the leg opening, so now my jeans fit PERFECTLY and you can't even tell they've been worked on. From then on, I always make an extra stop whenever I buy my jeans--first, the retailer, then straight to Gallery Dept. Also, Jesse is an ARTIST who makes great custom designs. I brought him a concept for a custom denim jacket that I wanted to make out of a t-shirt. He took my original design and improved it, altering the framing of the tee and proposing extra details underneath the collar that made the final product even more awesome than I'd imagined. There's a reason he's trusted by fashion designers to assemble their lines. In summary, Gallery Dept. is the best place to bring your jeans if you care about fit and quality. If you're like me, and never never had custom-fit jeans, do yourself a favor and experience the difference, you won't be sorry. excellent place for all your high end denim hemming, alterations, and repairs. i brought in a pair of Pure Blue XX-18 raw denim that i had purchased from Japan to have hemmed. estimated turnaround time was a few hours. there was a bit of a delay due to some machine issues, but they were able to have the jeans hemmed on the same day. i picked them up the next day and enjoyed the high quality tailoring job they did. the hem was cut to my exact measurements that i had requested. they do have a little area in the back of the shop that can be used to try your jeans on as well. the hemming was $25 and definitely worth it. service was professional and friendly. highly recommend for all your denim service needs. read more

I haven't worn denim in two years because I'm 6'-4" and finding clothes to fit me is often times difficult. lol I finally found a pair of jeans at Club Manoco that were long enough but a little big in the legs. I was a little nervous at first to be handing someone these brand new pants but was willing to take the risk to have well-fitted jeans. I was astonished by how amazing they look now. The jeans fit perfectly and they absolutely blew me away with their level of detail and finesse. Worth every penny.
