For the price, the food was extremely mid. The best aspect about the restaurant was the beach front views and having dinner in the sand. I will say that part was spectacular, however, I was very unimpressed by the menu and quality of food. The service was also not very impressive. Came her recently with a group of friends and had a great night. It is a prefix menu which is not my favorite, I like to try a couple appetizers usually especially when going out with friends, but I guess you could still split certain items with friends. Another thing I want to call out upfront is that it has an automatic 23% gratuity, this raises the bar for me on what I would expect for service since it above the 20% that is the standard. The service isn't bad but nothing really special but I guess you are paying for the vibe and the view. I got the lobster spring roll as my starter, it was really good but a little soggy. For my main I got one of the specials that they had that day the swordfish, it was very good! Both the main and starter specials sounded really good and the main menu has a lot of yummy sounding choices so it was hard to pick! I am giving it a one star because of the beautiful view and my cocktail was good. There were 3 of us and the food was awful. The Caesar salad was bland, the clam chowder wasn't good and the vegetable medley is served cold. The halibut was way overcooked and the flavors they cook with it are not good. UPDATE: we discovered Galley Beach was lying to us because we called the restaurant from a different number and got confirmation that it was open with no power outage, and we checked their Instagram location and found people were posting content there all evening (we took a recording for proof). Why did Galley Beach lie to us? Is it because we aren't regulars on the island? What is the reason for this discrimination? While Galley Beach has delicious food and a beautiful view, the people who work there leave a lot to be desired in terms of basic courtesies and niceties. Today, 90 min before our dinner reservation we got a phone call canceling our reservation because Galley Beach had somehow lost power. Fair enough, we feel badly this happened to them. But instead of apologizing or offering to find another time, we were effectively told that there was nothing they could do, and we should be grateful that they took the time to call us and tell us because they are such busy people. Seriously? And other people aren't? Is that necessary? Even if you don't have another time available can't you have some remorse or kindness when calling? Furthermore, we had actually originally had booked for Friday. When we saw that it was forecasted to rain that day we moved up the reservation to today. After Galley Beach canceled due to an issue on their end, the least they could've done is offered to try to get back our original reservation or some reservation on Friday even if it's at a different time. Not only did they say they couldn't accommodate that, they didn't even offer to put us on a waiting list in advance and call us if they got any cancellations between now and when we leave Nantucket to go back home. They said we could make the effort to call back and add ourselves to the waitlist every morning. There is simply no need for this attitude, ever. All the food and views in the world aren't worth being subjected to behavior like this. read more

This place is an absolutely horrendous ripoff with poor service marked by outright rudeness, and utterly preposterous pricing. The $79 prix fixe menu is very limited, and filled with supplemental charges for all sorts of things. The portions are small. The food is meh. It's like insult added to injury added to disgust. Worse, the tuna special had a $60 supplement. Which was not disclosed. On a $79/pp menu. Outrageous. We were told "no" on multiple occasions (eg no we cannot bring a wine bucket so that you can have your ridiculously overpriced bottle of rosé closer to your table; no we cannot put a sauce on the side). Literally the only reason to go here is to take photos on the beach at sunset. The light is gorgeous for about ten minutes. Pro-tip: avoid this shitshow like the plague and take pix at any number of other beaches (btw the snack bar at Surfside has way better food than this awful place). read more

Located on beach side of Nantucket, this restaurant leaves much to be desired. First the positive: the view is amazing, the food is a solid 7 out of 10 and the host staff is nice (enough). Now the not so great and where the place desperately needs to improve: please re-train the waitstaff (especially the ones from Eastern Europe). Having been to enough restaurants to write a novel, being courteous doesn't cost anything...but being rude or huff-puff in front of the guests is just 100% unacceptable. Even if a group of guests requested something you cannot comply due to COVID there's the professional way and the rude way to handle the situation. For a premier property like this place, the latter will not secure repeating business. There are better options on the island but this place is a pass for now read more

Due to covid they are doing a fixed price menu (not sure what that really has to do with covid since the menu didn't seem any smaller than in years past-it seems to be more of a money grab in the name of pandemic response). The fixed price meal (includes starter and a main) is $80 per person. However, many of the starter and main options incur an extra charge on top that (crab cake starter +$8, veal +$15, etc). Suffice to say with drinks and desert, it's definitely pricey. But if you're going to the galley, you can't be bothered by that. They start accepting reservations at 10 am 7 days in advance. I called 24 times in a row. Several times, they picked up and then hung up on me mid sentence so back to dialing. My dinner partner was calling simultaneously for a grand total of 53 calls to get a reservation. Please just create a lottery system or use open table. The calling is painful and unnecessary. All of that said, the galley has to be the most beautiful setting on the island. On a clear night, I could forgive them for basically anything because the setting and ambiance are that special. Unfortunately, it was heavy clouds and rain when we went (when you need to book so far in advance, weather is a crapshoot). The weather meant it wasn't that "magical" galley experience but not their fault, just unfortunate. Made it a bit harder to justify as at least half of what you're paying for at the galley is the location, not the food. The food itself was delicious. You can tell the quality of ingredients is terrific and the kitchen staff are talented as hell. Definitely more of a New York / Hamptons scene than everything else on island (aside from maybe cru). Do it just for the views! The service was phenomenal - we had a waiter named Cash that was so considerate and gave great recommendations. The view is unforgettable just like everyone else said. I found it to be fairly priced, especially for Nantucket. There was no kids menu, but they have chicken fingers. I am a vegetarian and had a few options to choose from. They can also make most entrees gluten-free! The waiter recommended the Halibut, which was cooked perfectly. The chopped salad was fresh and colorful. Well she's pretty... God s she pretty! Not the appointments, no it's the situation, the spot, the location, the people, the bartenders, the BEACH. ( and believe me for whatever reasons there are not that many on it in ACK!) but watching the sun set amidst a glamorous crowd & Hollywood worthy setting, is something kinda religious. They have lovely outside beach area and attractive furniture & it's very chic to see gorgeous girls barefoot in the sand with a martini in hand and feet in the sand! The menus is a mix of .... Well, it's a mix. And for the most part it's delecious. It's terribly terribly expensive, and locally known as a " special occasion" place. But the wealthy ACK crowd flock & always have a lovely time ! All this having been said, my last visit the service was appalling . August 2 We were seated and given a menu. The waitress didn't seem too enthusiastic when we asked questions about the menus and how the food was prepared and the flavor profiles we were to experience. When she is disclosed to us the specials she was very vague with her description and the accoutrements to the dishes. The sommelier arrived with the wine list, the prices were insulting to say the least . I understand paying 2x the amount for a bottle of wine but 4x? Or $35 for glass of wine that you know the retail bottle cost $11. Be advised, if you know or appreciate wine do not buy any wine from this restaurant because they are gouging. The food was prepared beautifully and respected and the flavors were vibrant. The service however, was terrible and they added a service fee of 23% to the bill, a service that we didn't receive. It should be up to the patron to reward for good service not the establishment to predetermine what you need to pay. You are paying for the food the tip should not be included as you predetermined to reward mediocrity. I will not recommend this establishment to anyone. read more

Escargot was the best I've ever had. They had a special entree, "wagu beef" @ $30/ounce (4oz minimum), I got 6 oz and it was incredible. The service was also exceptional, we were seated quickly after showing up to our reservation. Our server was personable, patient, and offered great recommendations. A more accurate rating would be 3.5, it wasn't terrible but it also wasn't phenomenal. That being said, it was still a good experience and I am glad we got to go. We had a 6:30 Saturday reservation on the deck. The weather was beautiful and we were there for prime sunset time. I started with the lobster bisque and my husband got lobster spring rolls. The lobster bisque was good but too watery for my taste and didn't have any lobster chunks, i've definitely had better. Lobster spring rolls were yummy but nothing extraordinary. For our entrees i got the chicken and my husband got the steak. My chicken was very yummy, juicy and quite filling, it was served with some sort of potato patty that was crispy yet soft. My husband liked the steak but was not impressed with it. For dessert we got the chocolate brownie with ice cream which was also quite good. The ambiance was nice, the service was fine, and the food was good but it is way too overpriced. There are definitely better places in town much more reasonably priced. Tip is already included, we paid and were waiting to get our change but after a while our waitress came over and asked if we wanted our change. She pretty much expected to keep it even though she had already gotten her tip. My husband is too nice and felt guilted into just letting her keep it. We don't mind spending money on good food and have always been good tippers but service was nothing spectacular and if she had already gotten her tip there was no need to assume she could just keep the change too, unprofessional and not very classy for a place like this. read more

If you can get a good table, sunsets are glorious from the Galley restaurant. This can be difficult if in a party for two. Very few smaller tables and those available are against the inner wall and one of you will stare at the wall and the other directly into the sun. Perhaps virus related, but restaurant clearly favors larger groups. Location is great, unfortunately only one of a few restaurants on the water, even though Nantucket is an island. Wait staff are great and very professional, host staff are consumed with requests for a better table and are argumentative. Concerning food and drinks. Their bar makes a good martini, at $23 per. Wine list ok, but by the glass is pricey with a small pour. The menu this year is at a fixed price at $79 for app and main course with many items offered as plus ups. My wife had oysters on the half shell, from upper harbor and were great. I had Caesar salad which had lost all its crispness, not very garlicky, two small anchovies were the highlight. We both had the lobster at at $15 up-charge. It was a poor selection, more like a stew, mostly vegetables. Lobster was in small bits, no more than 2 ounces for each of us. I would not be surprised if the lobster had not seen its shell while in Nantucket. We ended the meal with cappuccinos (machine made) and split the cheesecake which was really a tiny tart in a big bowl. With parking and tip, and two drinks each, we spent $400 for two of us. 3 stars for a five star view, for the meal, they would have gotten only two stars. Several far better cuisines in other good restaurants on the island, but the view is great at the galley. read more

Breathtaking experience being there at sunset, While the value is absolutely not there from a food and drink perspective - Once you sit down in the velvety sand and take in the incredible view, you forget all about the steep price. $80 for a two course pri fixe, left still hungry. Entrees were solid, but far from the best we've had on the island. Escargot was great as was the poke tuna tacos and our server was very nice to us. Drinks were indeed delicious, especially the mezcal drink. Our recommendation - instead of throwing $300 on a dinner for two, grab a pizza or poke bowls, a bottle of wine and sit on jetties beach at sunset. read more

In all fairness my husband and I only had 1 appetizer and 2 fish entrees between us so we can't comment on anything beyond that (hence only 4 stars) but if you love expertly prepared seafood and impeccable service, we would highly recommend this restaurant. As for the ambiance, it is a nicely considered beachside restaurant. We arrived just in time for the sunset which is apparently the thing to do here as dozens of patrons were taking selfies with the sunset as backdrop. Once the show was over the restaurant filled up as did the conversational volume but as the ceilings are high it's not impossible to have a conversation with your table mate(s). read more

Living in Nantucket for work has turned me into a total snob when it comes to good food. The food here is high quality. The ingredients combine to make some food that'll knock your socks off. Had the New England clam chowder and I wanted to bottle it up and have it every meal for a week. I had the panini of the day with a salad. The panini was a pork number that was light and delicious. My coworker got the galley burger and I wanted to reach over and take it the sandwich looked so good. The meal would have come in around $60, but it was end of season so everything was half off. That made my visit right there. The service was a little on the slow side, but I know how incredibly busy they were. My water was refilled often and my food tasted delicious so i can't complain. Galley beach is definitely one of those places that's pricy, but with good reason. The view alone is worth the price. Sit out on the white sand beach, stare out at the sea, and pretend for 45 minutes that you're independently wealthy. This was a waste of time. Our experience started with a subpar bartender while waiting for our table to come available. I'm not sure what he was trying to say -- maybe something clever. Regardless, it came across as rude, possibly racist, and a bit sexually inappropriate towards me and my wife. Then, dinner was just ok. The appetizer seemed to be missing the octopus advertised on the menu. The lobster entree seemed to be missing lobster. The best part of the experience was the champagne.
