My husband and I have been to the Galley a few times and always leave hungry...not because the food is bad...on the contrary the food is delicious but the portions are tiny (I know it's tapas) and the prices are high for the amount you get. I realize ordering several tapas to share is the idea but then the meals becomes expensive pretty quick! On our last visit I ordered a quinoa salad (delicious)and a chicken taco. My husband ordered a cup of clam chowder and a lobster slider. Everything was delicious but small portions. Hubby loves the extensive beer list and the drinks are creative and yummy. We do go back (also live the cool atmosphere) but not as often as we normally would though. I wish they also offered something more substantial if you are hungry, like a full sandwich at lunch. read more

This restaurant is very cute and the decor very much fits in with the whole Scituate vibe. I went on a beautiful summer day and they had all their window walls open. It really felt like I was sitting next to the beach in a cute shabby chic restaurant. I needed a quick lunch so I sat by the bar. The waitress behind the bar was so warm and friendly! I ordered a tuna poke as an appetizer. It was very tasty but a little heavy on the sauce. The wontons were a great addition and I couldve eaten those by itself! However, I've had real Hawaiian poke before and this doesnt compare. I also ordered the pulled pork sliders with house potato salad. The sliders were flavorful but it made the bread kind of mushy and soggy. The house potato salad was mustard base and just very plain flavored. This place has an awesome beer and drink menu! I got the caliente margarita (spicy/jalapeño) and a blood orange one as well. They have lots of delicious small plates of food! We don't eat seafood, and although they have a lot of that on the menu, they had a decent amount of non-seafood offering as well. We tried the poutine with the fried egg on top and it was downright addictive. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is great. I have only been here in the winter, but from what I understand it's even cooler in the summer with all the windows open. I'll definitely be back! read more

My first time going here I bring my friend from out of town. We got duck poutine, oyster slider, pork slider, and "nachos." These so called nachos had cheese on it that was NOT melted. It was hard.... so obviously it was sitting in the back for a while. We didn't realize the cheese was bad until the obnoxious people next to us also got nachos like an hour later (meanwhile no one came to check on us). Their cheese was melty and looked fresh. Food was ok... poutine was great... slider could be cheaper since it's only one. Pork one was a bit soggy but the oyster one was pretty good. Waitor: he brought us our drinks and then disappeared. Never came over again... in fact no one did. I had to call someone over for water. Some waitress came over and we realized the guy was now at the opposite end of the restaurant but failed to inform us... this girl asked if we wanted another drink and we said can we have one minute... she came over like 15 min later, didn't take our order, but instead grabbed our menus. Are you kidding me? Like what kind of service is this!?!!!! It wasn't even that busy. A lot of people were at the bar. We were at an actual table. HORRIBLE service, ok food... what an embarrassment to bring a friend to try a restaurant in my home town. Knew I should have gone to Satuit. Don't know if I'll be back. RUDE. read more

Pros: -Awesome beer list. Lot's of local and unique beers to choose from. -Most of our tapas were pretty great. We especially liked the pulled pork sliders and the salmon had great flavor. -Centrally located with sliding doors for windows that open up and would be lovely in the summer Cons: -Some of the portions were a little small, even for tapas. The teriyaki salmon was definitely skimpy. -We got the special, some kind of lobster croquette thing. I had high hopes for this place as it was over-flowing with people when I arrived. Overall, my experience was poor. I only saw my waiter once every 30 minutes or so, the food was incredibly bland, and the atmosphere was loud, crowded, and stressful. I would expect to enjoy my time at the galley exponentially more at a slower time on a weekday (I went on a saturday night). However, the corn tortilla for my veggie taco fell apart, tostones were seriously bland, and the caesar salad had a strange taste to it. The two stars exist for the presentation of the food, the vegetarian and vegan selections on the menu, and for the sauce provided with the fries. That was bomb. read more

Showed up today, Monday, March 11th at 5:15pm. Bartender is a middle aged blonde. She initially rolls her eyes when we sit down. Weird. We're 2 23 year olds. We order drinks as she cards us. Both IDs are out of state from California (just moved here). She says she has to go "check" them and goes upstairs for 5 minutes. Comes back and refuses to serve us because the address on my card is from Cohasset. Thats what the DMV gave me, my parents live in state. She then gets closer and demands a passport. Is that because my accent is British? Her ignorance of IDs have costed this restaurant two customers, plus everyone I'm sure to tell back home (in Cohasset). And we are great tippers. Shame. My recommendation to the restaurant would be to get rid of bitter employees who no longer like what they do. There are tons of fresh new people eager to be at work! read more

We love to come here for oysters, tapas and great cocktails. All the bartenders are nice and really know their mixology (especially Kate!). They have a jukebox you can take over with your phone while you watch sports. The duck pâté is delicious. I always get some to go. The dollar oysters Mon-Thurs nights are like a raw happy hour. I really wanted to like this restaurant because not only was it on phantom gourmet, but as I was heading towards the restaurant I saw the owner. The pros of this bar is that the food was incredibly good. We ordered the teriyaki salmon skewers, oysters, wings, and sweet potato fries. I would recommend this place for the food, BUT the amount of time it took for us to even get our food was ridiculous. Honestly the food is good, but the almost two hour wait is not worth it whatsoever. Okay, I still love the *idea* of Galley...the wide open windows, tapas menu, decor, live music. BUT it seems something has gone awry in the food department. The last couple times I've been have been very disappointing. Fresh fruit that tastes like it was cut on the same surface as raw onions. Chowder the consistency of runny mashed potatoes, that absolutely did not taste like clams. More of an indiscriminate slop. Duck bahn mi sandwich with barely anything between the bread and missing the cilantro aioli. Not sure what's going on but the place is not cheap so it really burns to have awful food. And hey, maybe Galley aims to be mostly about the craft beer, cocktails and oysters--this is great!--but then they should 'dumb down' the menu to something they can more effectively execute. Not going to bother reviewing the truly awful service I experienced last week, perhaps it was a one off. But between the food and service, that lunch was at best a 1 star experience. Amending my review to 3 stars to take my previous (great) visits into account. I really hope Galley gets it together because it has the potential to be a really fantastic harbor destination. read more

We went there on Saturday at 12.30pm, and we were offered the brunch menu together with the regular menu. I picked some classic brunch food, my wife chose some teriyaki salmon from the regular menu, and some quinoa salad with cauliflower. The regular menu is mainly made of little plates to share (tapas), and she was OK with two of them. Sure, we didn't eat a lot, but we were happy and satisfied when we left. We ended up spending about $15 each (no drinks). They have a small but interesting list of wines, and a selection of local beers. We loved the atmosphere there, and I would definitely come back if I am in the area. Most of the tapas sound extremely good, and original. I highly recommend it for brunch/lunch. read more

I was on a visit home and my dad wanted to try this place out, so four of us went for dinner. We got there at about 6 on a Tuesday night, and it was just in time because the seats filled up right after we got there. The restaurant is beautiful and really modern. I think we ordered just about everything on the menu. Beer list was great- loved the Murphy's Stout. The reasons for the 3 stars: 1) Our server was kind, but awkward. Almost like she was struggling to remember everything. She forgot to refill waters and drinks, and also forgot to put in a few of the things we ordered. 2) Prices were very high for the portion sizes. 3) My lamb chops were overcooked. 4) It was table service for wine, which could be nice, however I did not like watching a server pull a bottle of wine out from under her armpit before pouring. All of these things can be fixed of course, and I would still recommend it. The grilled shrimp were cooked perfectly and very tasty. The food all sounded better than it tasted- it wasn't necessarily bad, I was just a bit disappointed, presentation was on point. read more

I really wanted to love this place. We just moved to the South Shore from Boston this summer, and have been in pursuit of some great restaurants. We went here with friends for a Thursday night dinner last week. The space is fun, and their craft cocktails and large variety of microbrew beers was reminiscent of our favorite city spots. The food however, was hit and miss. THE GOOD: The duck poutine with cheese curds and the duck drumettes were wonderful. Duck they can do. THE BAD: We also had the mussels, many of which were over-cooked, and the garlic/chorizo broth they came in was so bland. Probably in part since there were only mere specs of chorizo in the broth. The potato skins were also bland, a little seasoning would have gone a long way. Possibly the worst dish we all had were the lamb skewers. Both us and our friends ordered them, and both orders were hard/rubbery from being so overcooked. Go for the bar and drinks, but be weary of the inconsistent food. read more

I had been wanting to try Galley for a while and a beautiful, warm Saturday was a pretty perfect time to do so. Snagged a table along the open wall (great people watching) and had, the first of several difficult, choices to make. The beer/wine/cocktail list is pretty awesome (great choices of local craft beers)! Once we settled on libations we had the difficult decision of what to order... Everything on the menu appealed to me! We settled on the duck drumettes (JUST ORDER THESE - they are outstanding and lots of meat on each - order comes with 2), smoked salmon salad (LOTS of smoked salmon, loads of fresh greens and a tasty dressing) and the fish tacos (scrumptious). Our waitress was friendly, helpful on menu items and never made us have to look for her. Would not hesitate to return and look forward to our next visit! read more

So this is the second visit to the Galley. The first was last year for lunch and the second last week for dinner. I like the location, the atmosphere, the staff, and the food. My issue was the portion size of the dishes. I ordered two items for myself and left hungry after spending over $21 on just my food. I ordered the potato skin and the short-rib dish. For $7 there was a single half of potato skin cut in two with cheese and pulled pork. It was delicious but more than seriously lacking in portion size. For $14 the short rib was a single piece on top of some veggies with a broth/gravy. Again, it was seriously delicious but for $14 expected more. My significant other got a hummus dish and and something else that came with bread and chips and she was satisfied after her meal. But again it was served with a loaf of bread. Last year I remember lunch being good on both quality and quantity. Not sure what has happened since. read more

Galley has amazing drinks. Highly recommend the callientie a spicy margarita. However food wise I had a bad oyster there and after eating it I told the bartender who's response was "oh" if you have ever eaten a rotten raw oyster it is really disturbing. One would hope for a more emphatic response. So I don't eat here anymore, other food I have had there is ok nothing super fabulous. Food is much better down the street at Oro stock to cocktails here. read more

Our waitress was really sweet, it just took a long time to order, to get drinks, to get food, to get our check, etc. Stand outs were the lamb lolipops and the duck drumettes. We also loved the tomato flatbread. Grilled oysters were good, but not my favorite. Papas bravas were delicious, but the sauce was not like any brava sauce I've had with tapas before - far too bland. I've been here a bunch and the food is pretty good. My last experience, however, was one of the more awkward restaurant experiences I've had. Meal took about 1.5-2 hours and the staff was just ??? (shrug). Don't know the word to use but orders were awkward, tried taking food that was unfinished, there were multiple back and fourths to the table with ordering or just asking random questions. Excellent! Very cool and varied atmosphere which makes the small restaurant extremely interesting. They do not take reservations but do allow you to call in a half hour before you plan to arrive to put your name on the wait list which cut the wait in half. DEFINITELY worth the wait!! I understand restaurants have the privilege and right to refuse service. However, after the pandemic and finally being able to travel. Declining service for an out of state ID she wasn't comfortable with... and with providing another form of ID? We were excited to try this place out of a few local recommendations. For future why not have a scanner for your ids? Other than that the atmosphere seemed nice. My husband and I ate at Galley Kitchen & Bar during vacation time in Scituate. I'm glad that I was referred to the Galley because of their "Tapas" like menu- the name alone makes it sounds like another seafood restaurant. Our exceptional server was Anna and she is mostly responsible for this 5-star rating. My husband and I were SHOCKED when we realized we spent almost 2 1/2 hours in the restaurant enjoying oysters, several Tapas and drinks throughout the time. Anna was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu and the drink options (in particular the beer options for my husband). The beer selection was extensive and mirrored the eclectic menu at the Galley. When asked, Anna recommended several dishes - my favorite was the duck pate salumi "for one" since my companion is not a pate fan. The dish was outstanding and I enjoyed every bite. Our other favorite was the chimichurri hanger steak dish - YUMMY. The blood orange margarita was also excellent. Sincere kudos to Anna for making recommendations - so often servers don't know enough about food and drink combinations to make good recommendations. In this case, it really added to our experience. Other restaurant employees were very attentive and were on top of keeping the table clear of the small plates once we were done. We sat at a small table that was along the wall of windows - which were all open to the perfect evening temperature. The restaurant was steadily busy with locals and tourists and it seemed like everyone was having a great time. We'll definitely be back. Yeah..it's eclectic. Great food. Tapas style small plates but they have added some larger plates too. Menu changes and love some of the newer items, like the Spicy braised greens with Tasso Ham.
