If you like lukewarm pizza get the gluten free pizza here. There was a time when we went to Gallo every week and it was great! That time is over. I would always get the gluten free baked ziti or the gluten free pizza. They changed their menu and no longer have the baked ziti. The gluten free pizza is now served room temperature. Whatever you do don't ask them to heat it up for you! The steam it! If you have never had steamed pizza considered yourself lucky! I tried coming back a few times because I appreciate that they have gluten free options. Hustlers is so much better but doesn't have gluten free opinions. Sometimes it pays to be the first customer in the door.. Not our usually dining area but we needed to get out and try something new. We walked in to Gallo and were the only people there, I see reviews of people getting "poor service but that's definitely not what we experienced. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming into this quaint establishment. Sadly we were informed that the pizza oven was still getting ready so pizza was off the menu for us. That was almost a dealbreaker, but we found some other options on the menu to enjoy. The little yelper chose her usual chicken and fries, she had a healthy helping of them (they are definitely bagged nuggets as the pics show). The misses got a chicken and greens sandwich , while it was good, she said that the sandwich definitely would have benefited from being made with grilled chicken instead of fried. Naturally, me being a non-pasta person this was not my best day. I went with the old failsafe chicken wings. Garlic Parm, while the sauce was really good, I was a little disappointed by the size of them and little cup of Ken's bleu cheese. But points for presentation. There was a late delivery to the table, of sliced dough, which was quite good. I'm guessing the oven was just getting right almost close to temperature as we progressed through our meal. Greeted by annoyed staff.... Saturday night check out this location on Google maps showing that they are open till 10 PM. Got excited to try it out and we got there at 9:20 just to find the place closing down the heavy waitress at the bar immediately shouted that they're closed. I pointed out that it says O'clock and she didn't even responded she pretty much turned her back on us extremely annoyed by the comment. Stopped in for a late lunch on Sunday and decided on two pizzas to share amongst three of us. We had the Amatriciana and the White Gallo. Both were very good - the crust is thin and airy and light, but they certainly did not skimp on the cheese. Plenty of fresh mozzarella and sun dried tomatoes on the White Gallo, but barely any red onion. I preferred the salty sweet combination of the pancetta and caramelized onions on the Amatriciana, but both pizzas were really good and plenty of food for 4 people. Stopped by today with a girlfriend to grab some pizza. We bungee-corded it to the passenger seat on my bike. We arrived at 2:55pm. They didn't open until 3pm. We waited at a table outside. When they opened right at 3pm the server came out and took our order. She brought out the check 5 minutes later and took our payment. The pizza came out about 15 minutes after that and we were in our way over to Academy Park to eat it. It was good! The price was right $19andchange. Was my second time here, my friend's first. Got pickup here after doing a walk of the Niagara Gorge trail during the COVID-19 quarantine. I placed the order on the phone - pickup can be done curbside by giving your credit card over the phone or you can come inside (the person handling the card/food is wearing gloves). Inside, there is also some pasta as well as sauces you can purchase. During the COVID-19 quarantine, cocktails are for sale for $7 and house wine as little as $2 per glass to-go. Food-wise, I got a delicious Margharita pizza, which had the perfect crust and sauce/cheese ratio. The garlic parm wings were amazing. I also got the eggplant gallo as an appetizer - it was tasty, but a bit small so I'd likely skip it next time as a takeout item. Highly recommend for delicious coal-fired pizza/wings. My Son and his fiancé had their rehearsal dinner for 30 guests in the upstairs banquet room. They had a buffet style setup for the food. When I went up for food the salad bowl only had lettuce in it, the breaded chicken cutlets/ fingers were way over cooked - hard to cut and chicken was dried out. There was Italian sausage with peppers & onion but the rolls were somewhat stale. The paste as well as the meat balls were good. The desserts and the hors d'oeuvre platter with varies cheeses, pepperoni & prosciutto was good. The gentleman bartender did a nice job and poured a good drink. The upper outside deck was large and was nice to have cocktails on while talking to other guests. Big round tables with white chairs in the banquet room worked well for the party. My wife and I came by with another couple shortly after they opened on Saturday afternoon. It has a very bright interior and you can see the coal fire in the oven throughout the restaurant. We ordered the Sicilian chicken wings and eggplant gallo as appetizers to share. The wings were roasted in the coal fire oven and came out very crispy. They were also topped with roasted onions. I enjoyed these very much. Eggplant Gallo has thin slices of sauteed eggplant layered with tomatoes and Romano cheese. This was an excellent and tasty appetizer. I had the garlic vinegar chicken as my main course. This has chicken with garlic, peppers, onions, potatoes and Italian sausage in a red wine vinegar chicken stock sauce. I am a person who likes vinegar a lot but this dish had everything literally swimming in it. All in all, I would definitely come by again to try a few other menu items. read more

As a Lewiston resident, this restaurant is a continued disappointment. The food has always been subpar but recent changes to the menu only emphasize that the owners are only concerned with cutting costs. The only decent thing on the menu was the homemade mozz sticks but even those they had to cheapen by making them risotto sticks. if you're going to challenge a neighbor favorite by introducing a version of risotto, you should at least make certian that it's on par with Casa Antica. why bother if not? Dont even bother with the Chicken Milanese. Save your money and throw some arugula on a dry chicken breast at home. Literally that is what you'll get at this establishment. read more

Out to lunch for my Birthday with the In-Laws and the wife and kids. First time here at the Gallo, was looking forward to seeing what's on the menu. They have so many great items to offer it was a tough decision but I went with a spicy breaded chicken sandwich with lettuce and tomato on a ciabatta bun with fries and a sweet tea to wash it all down. Walked in at 5:45 on a Friday with no reservation but after a short wait at their awesome bar sipping wine we were able to get a table. I would recommend a reservation though. They haven't been open very long so I expected some growing pains with their service. The staff here really has their act together for being open such a short time. The growing pains I expected were non existent. The staff is friendly and efficient. The food was very good and generously portioned. We started out with an appetizer of meatballs served with pomodoro sauce and ricotta cheese and a Caesar Salad. Both were very good. We chose the smaller portion of salad. This salad could have easily served three or four if consumed as an appetizer. We then shared a Fresca pizza. This pizza was buried in toppings consisting of olive oil, mozzarella, arugula, tomato, red onion & kalamata olives. It was very good. The service was really good here, we came around 4:30 so the food came out super quick! We weren't too impressed with the pizza, it wasn't bad but it didn't wow us. I never had burrata so I really wanted to try it. The pizza bread was so yummy I loved it. I wasn't exactly sure what the cheese was supposed to be inside but after I left, I found out that it is supposed to be gooey in the middle. This place was such a nice surprise in Lewiston. I had to run out there for a gift and found reviews of Gallo on Yelp, which looked amazing. Well, the real place does not disappoint. Honestly, it was some of the best coal-fired pizza I ever had. We ordered a traditional cheese pizza and then a traditional cheese and pepperoni pizza with hot banana peppers, in addition to the hot pepper appetizer, spicy BBQ wings, and a small Caesar salad. Everything was delicious! The wine by the glass selection is great, too! They definitely could use more space and tables, but I understand there are plans to move to a bigger space down the street eventually. We went to Gallo Coal Fire Kitchen for my wife's birthday. We had a party of nine and each of us got different dinners on the menu along with several starters. Every single dish was excellent! My wife and I split a large bowl of Amatriciana Pasta. It has such a delicious and light tomato sauce. I absolutely loved this dinner and we had so much with the "family" size bowl that we brought some home (a rare thing for me)! It really was that good. I highly recommend it! Everyone at our table enjoyed their food and we all would come back to eat here again. My sons shared a pizza and it was devoured by them. These 13 year olds know their pizza and gave this pizza high praise. If you have the chance to eat at this new restaurant, you will be pleased with your choice. Great restaurant in a great location. Ordered tonight were two pasta dishes and two salads. Salads were fine. Arugula with pine nuts was tasty. Unfortunately both pasta dishes arrived lukewarm at best. Penne was cooked to perfection yet was lost in the fact it needed to be heated up. Pomodoro sauced lacked flavor and accompanying chicken cutlet was bland. My friend found her pasta to be lukewarm and lacking flavor as well. Her meatball was dry. Wine selection offered cheaper brands which were as sub par as the food. With so many places serving quality fresh Italian food to choose from this won't be a competition. Such a disappointment. read more

I attended an event in their cute upstairs event space. It was cozy and nice for a small gathering with two large individual bathrooms for your party. The food was decent with sauces and dressings on the side which was nice for people trying to eat healthy. The pizza was thin and crunchy but wasn't on any warming serving equipment, so was on the cold side when we started eating. I think it would be great warmed up. There was a bar available upstairs with a small pour of wine for $8.5 and mixed drinks and beer, and the bartender was there when the food was out. There weren't assigned servers it seemed it, several people coming up periodically so we stacked our plates after appetizers and before dessert to make room but they were kind when they got around to cleaning up. Overall, it was a nice setting and spread, with a struggle for street parking but worth a nice afternoon. read more

Portions are different, things are pre-made, and while the ambience seems good, when your food arrives cold 5 minutes after you order it, it certainly isn't fun anymore. I was so disappointed. We are visiting and not familiar with this restaurant. The menu describes portions that seemed very large, so we asked the waiter for guidance. We each ended up ordering an item of the entree menu (half chicken and meatball stew), which could have fed 8 people! At the end of the meal, I talked to the manager about the quantity of food and he essentially said "we don't judge how much people will eat." I can understand that if all customer isn't directly asking questions about the portion size. In this case we did ask and were completely oversold. Bummer! read more

The Carbonara pizza is by far my favorite thing on the menu. They typically do a great job with making pizzas but there are times when the pizza was over cooked and the topppings are sparse. But for the most part the pizza is great for the price. The management is also super friendly and helpful with correcting issues and making sure the customer is satisfied.
