After 2 weeks they wanted me to leave because I was non weight bearing. I did not even live in the state of IL and Michelle basically said sorry we are not a hotel. You can come back when you are able to walk. They billed me over 12,000 for 4 weeks stay and are still trying to bill me for things I never used. The Sunrise staff truly excel at ensuring the well-being of their residents. They go above and beyond to meet the community's needs. After close to two years of frustration, numerous meetings and not seeing any changes I met with Sunrise. I decided to move my mom to sunrise even though we were in the middle of COVID. If was the best thing I ever did. Not just according to me but also according to my mom. Sunrise has it dialed in and all the things that used to frustrate me are gone. The CNA,s have spent time getting to know her. My mom says she feels like they really take an interest in getting to know her. My advise to anyone who is looking for assisted living in the area, don't be fooled by the shiny penny. It is the concern and care for the family member that is most important. As a family we were looking for a…read morefacility that had a strong memory-care program; a fresh, clean building; the appropriate staff/resident ratio; an apartment that mom would feel comfortable in; and a warm, inviting environment. We found it at Travanse. The Generations Director loves the residents, is responsive to our family needs, and seeks to be available and visible for all residents and their families. The nurses and caregivers are very kind, loving, and respectful to our mom. As a result mom feels content, comfortable, and safe. While no place is perfect, Travanse Living at Grayslake certainly comes close! We recommend it!

When were referred to Shepherd Premier Senior Living in Gurnee we looked at their website and met via video conference (due to Covid) with the owners and nurse we thought it was too good to be true. It seemed like the perfect place for my mom with high staff to resident numbers and a home like environment. From the move in day on the staff has been incredible and kind, my mother is very happy there and the environment has helped her recover from her past bad experiences. I am thankful that Shepherd exists and had room for my mother at their facility. You can trust the people at Shepherd to take great care of a loved one.

Oak Hill is a very lovely place, My mom has been calling it home for at least a couple years…read more I am a regular visitor, mostly everyone knows me and I love to stop and to chat with the residents and staff. There is a lot they offer to everyone, there's daily programs, bus trips on Tuesday and Thursday, special entertainment, students who come weekly to interact with everyone. Participation is encouraged, but not required, everyone is different, after all. I encourage my mom to participate and they usually have someone come and escort her to activities. Mom has had her medicine well managed, and I felt that wellness staff has been attentive to my mom's needs for care as they come up: from monitoring her heart to helping her brush her teeth and cleaning her room. I've worked with the Financial side of things, discussing what's next when mom transitioned from private pay to Medicaid and adding their dental coverage, and new medical plan. I love that everyone can have their pets, my mom has her kitty salsa, everyone is welcome and everyone is celebrated for what they can do. I've been impressed with their transitioning throughout the Covid pandemic, keeping the residents safe and Covid free. This has been so very difficult! Maybe things aren't always perfect, we are but human. I see that the team at Oakhill from the Kitchen, Leas, Wellness Center, Housekeeping, front desk and everyone in management, work hard and care for everyone. I feel like they make a special effort to give the residents a good experience every day. I'm there so frequently, people are always telling me stories about my mom. There has been some management changes due to retirement, and I think once everyone's adjusted it will be wonderful to see the new ideas from everyone. Oak Hill has a bright spirit about it, I definitely recommend it. check out their facebook page to see the many events that they have. Their focus is the residents. The residents also have a resident's council that gives ideas and opinions of what they'd like to provide input into. I am glad my mom lives here. I highly recommend checking them out!

My Mom stayed here for 6 months. We found the management team rude, slow to respond, disorganized,…read moreout of touch with the resident needs, lacks experience and compassion, and were extremely difficult to work with. The nursing staff denied receiving emails that it was proven they had received, resulting in delays in care. They regularly had issues with managing medicines, and when we attempted to engage them, it took several days to respond to inquiries. The finance team refused to acknowledge their error, and then treated us rudely like we were at fault, and showed absolutely no compassion during any interactions. The general manager was rarely in the building, and failed to engage with us when we had issues with the management team. From a facility perspective, the 1st floor hallway always smelled like urine, and there were several weeks where temperatures in the resident rooms were under 60 degrees and they refused to turn on the heat or provide space heaters, blaming it on the costs. If there was any bright spot during her 6-month stay, it was the housekeeping, receptionist, and dining room teams - at least they were friendly.

For some time I have a need/desire to express my feelings concerning my living at Heritage Woods…read moreof Gurnee. My initial impression was that from a structural standpoint the building is pleasant,easy on the eye and well maintained. There is a variety of plants, shrubs and flowers that adorn the grounds and the lawn is green and well kept. The manner as to how I got to HW of G was somewhat problematic and initially led me to be skeptical of the administration. This, I later came to understand was due to the way I had been treated by the nursing home I was coming from. However, after talking with the administration and with the addition of time I have come to appreciate that there is genuine caring taking place with most of the staff. Additionally, I have the opportunity to be in close contact with this current administration and find them eager to elicit feedback from residents in order to be more proactive in making changes to further enhance the quality of life at HW of G. Furthermore, I find the caring to be genuine and not merely a perfunctory process. In terms of the range of resident pool, there exist a wide gap: black, white, brown multi nationally and all coexist in harmony. The population is overwhelmingly Christian. There are some staff who are curious and seek to learn about other cultures. I, for instance, am a Jew. Gurnee provides little in the way of cultural support. So, If you are an observant Jew, Gurnee is not the place you want to be. HW of G has its own bus and there are multiple outing each month. Thus, you can go food shopping, eat out or perhaps go to a movie. Additionally, there are computers readily available for use 24hrs. a day. In summary, while HW of G would not have been my first choice of living arrangements, the time spent here has afforded me friendships I hold dear and memories I will not soon forget.

It has been hard with COVID not being able to see my mom. I had some concerns about her, I was…read moreable to call and have her looked at, the CNA took her vitals which were great. but she still was not well. When I had her sent to the hospital her CO2 level was high due to COPD. The vitals that they take cannot tell the CO2 levels. The head nurse has called several times to ensure that everyone is on the same page and to check on my mom while she was in the hospital. They will be doing weekly blood draws to ensure her levels do not get that high again. I gave the 4 stars. While they are very responsive after the fact, I did have some trouble getting them to send her to the hospital in the first place, as there is problem with their phones. I was leaving voicemails for a person that was on vacation and no one checked it. It was not until I asked to speak to someone directly did they get to hear my concerns.
