We unfortunately had to evacuate Disney World in Florida after one day after driving from Arizona. We decided to salvage some sort of a vacation and decided to head to Galveston Island KOA. They were extremely welcoming and friendly. We extended a day just because between the amazing staff and environment at the KOA, along with the abundance of things to do in Galveston, oh and did I mention a beautiful beach. We've stayed at Galveston Island KOA Holiday for the past two years, and I want to share an honest experience for anyone considering a stay. First, the positives: this is a beautiful campground with great amenities. The pool, hot tub, and lazy river are fantastic, and many of the staff members are friendly, helpful, and genuinely care about guests. Galveston itself offers so much to do--we especially loved spending time on The Strand and exploring the area. Unfortunately, the biggest issue is the management, which significantly impacts the overall experience. The park manager is unapproachable and runs the campground in a way that feels more focused on control and extra charges than guest satisfaction. Fees are added for things like early arrival, and communication often feels excessive and negative rather than helpful. While guests receive multiple daily texts about activities, we also received messages about things like dog waste in washing machines and stolen cleaning wipes--issues that could have been handled more professionally. There were also ongoing maintenance concerns both years we stayed. We experienced multiple days without water due to plumbing issues, and during our second year, the park was down to a single bathroom because of structural damage. We were told portable restrooms were coming, but they never arrived. Activities were amazing our first year, but the second year saw frequent cancellations. Even simple guest comfort requests--like putting down pavilion sides to block strong wind--were denied, despite those same features being used for staff events. Another concern is how complaints are handled. When an inappropriate interaction with a staff member was reported, there was no management available, and no follow-up from the manager afterward. That lack of accountability was disappointing. It's also worth noting that feedback appears to be filtered internally, meaning corporate oversight may not be getting the full picture. We also noticed an increase in police and emergency presence during our second stay, along with a shift in the overall campground atmosphere. To be clear, this could be one of the best campgrounds in the area--it has all the right ingredients. We had the most tremendous stay at the KOA today. They catered to our every need. The pool was wonderful. The lazy river was wonderful. A beautiful attentive staff, great campgrounds clean and the included showers were a huge bonus being able to wash off after being at the beach or being at the pool is a great way to save your face and save your hair. Don't forget to go upstairs and get snacks and goodies. Make sure to get drinks and alcoholic ice cream (one of the few places that have it on the island). Beach access 35 you can drive your car up and down beach to set up. Great pool, roomy hot tub, and relaxing lazy river. Well, let me tell you about our delightful stay at Galveston KOA. It's a real gem if you enjoy being treated like an inconvenience by the "mostly full-timers" who apparently run the place. Oh sure, it's a great place to stay if you don't mind feeling like an outsider in your own vacation spot. I can assure you, our short weekend trip was a BLIP IN YOUR VACATION RADAR. I get it. You want to enjoy the hot tub with annoying kids. But we were all annoying kids once and they deserve to unwind too. We had the audacity to bring our three, well behaved children to this supposedly family-friendly campground. Silly us, thinking we could use the empty pool and hot tub like any other paying guests. But nope, within minutes of quietly enjoying ourselves in a EMPTY hot the area, we were asked to leave by a worker. We were told we could enjoy the pool. In windy weather in the 40s. Thanks. But no thanks. We have young children and THAT is more a risk to their health than a large tub that is the same temperature as their bath water. Of course, we left immediately, because who wants to stick around where they're clearly not wanted? But oh no, the passive-aggressive pettiness didn't end there. Within moments of escaping back to our camper in the cold, windy weather, we received a campground-wide text alerting all that NO CHILDREN should be near the hot tub. Oh, and here's a little nugget of information for you: Mayo Clinic doesn't outright ban children from using hot tubs, but they do have some recommendations. They advise against infants and toddlers using hot tubs altogether, and older children are suggested to limit their time to no more than 20 minutes at a stretch (we had been in for about 3 minutes). But hey, who needs expert medical advice when you have Galveston KOA setting the rules, right? And you know what's truly ironic? We've actually had a decent stay at Galveston KOA before. We thought it could be our go-to spot for family vacations. But oh, how quickly things change. We had hoped to continue enjoying our time here, but this whole passive aggressive text message debacle was just overkill. Such a shame. read more

We stayed here for a weekend stay. We frequently RV in and around the Galveston area. This was our first stay at KOA. We also were very uncomfortable and disappointed in the allowing of political flags. We were told Confederate flags and flags with vulgar language we're definitely not allowed. The other RV camps in the area have banned all political flags. The camper across had a flag with FUJB on his golf cart. In today's climate these type of gestures can become an issue. It really set my nerves on edge to wake up to that and another MAGA flag posted on top of the RV.Also the extra charges for pool usage was a bit much. We did enjoy the wooden high rise, the park was clean and office personnel friendly. read more

We were parked right next to the hot tub. We were not bothered by it at all. The hot tub was large and very comfortable. The temp was 70 out and my daughter and I love, love, loved going to the lazy river in the evening. It is pleasantly heated. The park was just right in the size. Easy to go a lap around but not to small to walk dog. They have a dog park that we took our dog to when nobody was in to. I wished they had a place to wash dogs. They need a dog park for small and large dogs. There was a male employee that was taking care of the pool and chairs. He helped these girls turn on the hot tub and ask us if we were enjoying our stay. The staff in the office were very nice and welcoming as well. read more

We came back and stayed 3 months in the winter of 2022. It is our winter home and we love it. Although a few political banners and flags made it feel a little unwelcoming especially for people of color or LGBTQ, we found the managers were willing to ask for those to be taken down and they were. The hot tub was open this year and I spent a lot of time there in the early evenings after a full day of virtual work from the RV. Made some friends. Sunsets are spectacular and sites are well kept. Fire ants CAUTION! Just got there with the family, parked trailer got out and immediately my 14 yr old daughter and I, stepped into a fire ant mound. 40+ bites later, pain rushed in, washed them off began treating. 2 weeks later still recovering, left Park and complained to the management who told my wife "next time you'll think twice about coming to Texas" ~ Joyce front desk. We asked if they treat the area, they said the problem is the beach. If they don't treat, perhaps they can put some signs up informing guests of the danger! Will be sending them official complaint! read more

Great KOA and helpful staff. They even had free drinks and snacks! Pools were very nice but packed with annoying children each day. Throw them all in the lazy river or large pool and make one pool adults only, since we are the ones that pay and need some relaxation! Couldnt even get in the hot tub as it was full of screaming brats. Dont get me wrong, we had a nice enough time but the amount of kids was too much. I do love that the area is quiet and away from crowds The park is well kept and clean, dog park, easy to navigate. We had a good time. Could use more trash cans and def need to regulate trailers w dogs barking constantly. We have dogs but never leave them alone long and take them out a lot so they dont bark 10000 times a day. read more

We stayed here for a week. Today as we enjoyed drinks on the upstairs veranda we saw an RV owner hoist a flag that read TRUMP 2020 NO MORE BULLSHIT This is advertised as a family friendly resort. My wife walked to the office and politely complained. She was told "I got it" which we assumed meant they would take care of it. After an hour went by and the flag was still up, I walked over and politely and calmy told them that we felt that the flag was inappropriate, adding that I didn't care who the guy was voting for. I would like an RV vacation resort to be free of stress and political nonsense. The manager aggressively yelled at me saying "I will NOT ask the man to take down his flag. If you don't like it, you can ignore it, or leave tbe park!" I was shocked. Neither me nor my wife deserve to be spoken to like that. We will never patronize this RV park again. We will spend our $$ elsewhere. I have many RV friends and I will share my experience with them. The manager is a jerk. read more

if I could give no stars we would. if you plan to stay at Galveston KOA , campers beware. After the first night we were ready to leave, we were told no refunds. we paid for 5 nights. our neighbo campers stayed drunk and loud after the 10 pm quiet time. We complain and front office staff were rude and disrespectful. we asked for security guard to monitor them and nothing was done. night 2 same crap. nothing done. Campers with no wristbands and no one monitoring them. people that didn't belong at KOA using the facility. Nothing done.Same thing every day and night. Nothing ever done. Drunks everywhere, watch your kids at the pool. After we checked out there were charges put on my credit card for drinks we didn't purchase. When we called office to confront them they were adamant we bought them. We don't drink. The office staff said they only check wristbands and add charges to account. Thats bullshit. This means they may be serving alcoholic beverages to whomever walks up with a band. I verified this statement and the office staff said they only ask for wristband. TABC will be notified on this matter. i sent several emails to Galveston KOA and corporate office KOA on this matter. Manager of Galveston tried to ignore my emails. She stated we will not get a refund. Please please check your credit cards for fraudulent charges from them. Watch your children close. Read all the reviews from this place. There are a lot of not good ones. Staff at this KOA are rude(as you will read in other reviews). Tammy the manager is just as rude as her staff. This is why this KOA is run so terribl. I love the amenities here. We take the grandkids and hit the beach in the mornings then back to the trailer for lunch. Afterwards it's to the lazy river and the pool. It's not too far to Galveston pier and the amusement park. My only complaint is at night or rainy days the kids want to play on their tablets but the internet is horrible. I really hope that the KOA people start by getting a little more friendly with the people camping here. You can say hi to them and they will walk right by you. But the two men that work the park when Rusty was the owner, are kind, caring and so friendly. The laundry is still out of service, Not a washer or dryer in the room. They said to weeks...been three now. There has been NO LP gas since Feb. When traveling WE always stay at a KOA This morning I went to see my husband, he was at the office. I opened the door and some one says no dogs in the office. And points to the sign outside the door " No pets" Ok I understand. But why is it that nobody wears a mask, and this women spoke right in my face and have not since they took over this park~~bullet proof. Okay so my family had a really nice beach vacation so I probably shouldn't complain, but I feel that people should know what they're getting into when they pay big money to plan a vacation at a nice little resort. We stayed in one of the cabins at this RV resort during the 4th of July week. We had four children with us, three of whom are pretty young. The rules that are listed at the pool said no food or drink in the pool (they also say these rules are strictly enforced) but the pool was completely lined with drunk adults from open to close, making it difficult for my young, inexperienced swimmers to enjoy the pool. And I'm the lazy river, people blatantly disregarded the rules about blocking. One drunk and very rude woman said if my kids want to go faster than she is, they can figure it out! Seriously? They have floaties on and can't go under water. She should've gotten her drunk self out of the way and been considerate of those of us who could still think straight. But that is not on the management, I can't blame them for her behavior. However, they also have a "strictly enforced" rule about NO dogs in the cabins, but that very same woman was staying in the cabin next to us and had her dog in there with them. Had we known they allowed pets inside, we wouldn't have stayed, considering my son is severely allergic and can't be indoors with pets or their lingering fur and dander. If they aren't enforcing these rules they claim to be, they are putting people in danger. Anyhow, most of my complaint is more with the quality of people there than the place itself. But that's probably just island life. Everyone thinks they're a pirate and they drink like it! Oh, also, the WiFi does suck. They make sure to tell you it's "basic" probably to avoid negative comments. So just be prepared for it to be spotty and sometimes non-existent. But we really enjoyed walking the kids to the beach and we had a great time otherwise. We just couldn't enjoy any of the amenities of the actual resort due to other people being inconsiderate. They have a food truck by the lazy river pavilion entrance that sell snowcones and the store sells piña coladas. Great place for kids, has a nice dog park and a good trail to the beach access. This was our first time staying here and we really enjoyed it! The lots are HUGE so you are in no way near your neighbor. It was only a 5 minute walk to the beach which was perfect, but if you don't want to get sandy, there is a really nice pool as well. Only a few things that we weren't crazy about...it is a VERY kid friendly pool so if you don't want yelling, splashing and general rowdy kid shenanigans, go to the beach. Also, check out is at 11 am which we are not a fan of - at all. I've never been to ANY rv resort where check out is so early. WiFi signal great all over the park... but if you have ANY Apple product, it will only sign in at or near the office/clubhouse. Their excuse is BS. We stayed here for four nights. We can't wait to go back. The park is very well maintained, however the grass does have burrs but this is Texas. The spaces are very large. The scenery is beautiful and the beach is right across the street and you can drive on the beach and it is pet friendly. The pool, hot tub and lazy river is clean and well cared for. The bathrooms are large and clean. Wi-Fi was spotty but we didn't really need it and I can't speak for cable since we don't watch TV when out in the RV. We didn't have time to take advantage of the other amenities such as horse shoes and pickle ball but they were available. The staff was super friendly and the store had everything we needed. I can't think of anything we might have needed or wanted that this resort didn't have. I would give this place more than 5 stars if I could. Oh the frozen drinks are delicious! read more

Nice and new RV park at the far west end of the island. The drive into the main area with the restaurants and other activities is 20-30 minutes. The park has nice flat sites that are concrete with a picnic table and BBQ. The park offers good and clean standard amenities with the bathrooms, showers and laundry. This place is pretty well kept. The main reason for the 1 star is the simple fact that the manager and her husband are rude and like to Harass the kids. Starting at 7:30 pm the managers husband drives around and informs kids 10000 times that quiet time is at 10 pm. And literally will circle around and repeat himself every 15 minutes. The group of kids weren't even being loud or disrespectful. They were on the pickleball court. Couldn't even here them directly across the street from the court. Next day, he is following them around looking for a reason to get on to them. Apparently making the kids miserable is his main concern for this park. read more

Great RV park with lots of amenities. Staff in office very friendly and love the text updates throughout the day as to the activities that are scheduled. Avoid staying on either side of site 306. The park employee that lives there doesn't really want anyone staying next to her especially if you intend to enjoy the outside patio that was pricey. She made sure to turn on her security light and blind us while we were sitting by our fire pit enjoying some wine at 8:30 pm (not during quiet hours). The fire pit was nice if you don't leave it alone for more than 10 minutes. We didn't have a bonfire going or anything, totally contained and it was still put out while we went to walk the dogs on the beach. Sure the Karen in 306 next door had a blast dowsing it. Overall our stay was nice despite the crappy little digs from our neighbor. She wasn't friendly to anyone as we noticed her scowling at other campers that said hi. We will stay here again but avoid 306. read more

I've never stayed or used a KOA site. This place was GREAT if I had any questions the would answer them. They stayed in touch with us for the month before lone star rally. the place was very clean and welcoming. the only thing we didn't like was that the pool hot tub and lazy river closed at 9 pm each night. it would be nice if we where able to come back from the rally and hit the hot tub or the lazy river. I would highly recommend this place. just know if you are coming for the lone star it's about 30 miles from the strand. read more

Hands down one of the best places we have ever been. The RV sites are full hook ups, spacious, and have carpet thick grass. The showers are huge and beautiful. Everything was clean. The pool has a nice beach entry, lazy river and a hot tub. There was a food truck that seemed to be very popular and I was told several food trucks rotate through the resort. Galveston Island KOA - Sunset at Galveston Island RV Resort - Campgrounds Near Me - Galveston, Texas

This is a very nice RV park, all sites are very level concrete pads with picnic tables and grills, also lots of space between you and your neighbor. The main drawback to this place is the location, it is about 25 minutes from Galveston and about the same distance to Surfside . The only other thing was the "high speed" internet service that will cost you and extra $14.00 per day which is a little ridiculous given that the equipment needed and the service has dropped greatly in price in recent years. It's not worth the extra money, it is neither fast or reliable it would not work for us more than 2 or 3 minutes without going down for 2 or 3 minutes. Using my phone for a hotspot was about 100 times faster than the "high speed" internet. The guy that worked the office while we were there was not very friendly and acted like we disturbed him because we were checking in and wanted to make sure we read and followed all of the rules. They do have a fenced dog park which is always nice to let our dog off leash to run a little. I would stay here again if I was wanting a place to stay and didn't want to go into Galveston or Surfside on a regular basis. Beach access was easy but a little bit of a walk, I would recommend a wagon or something to put your beach stuff on if you were walking to the beach. If you stay up at the front there is a little highway noise, but not as much as other places we've stayed. read more

Very restrictive! Everyone has to wear a wrist band. They are constantly coming around and counting the people in your site. There is definitely no sharing. They even mowed and got grass clipping all over the place . No consideration the child in the trailer was allergic to grass. I will not recommend to anyone unless you have no family or friends. Also a day pass is $40 per car plus your entrance per person of $20. You are better off going to a hotel. Also nothing to sit on at the playground. You have to supervise your children standing up.
