This definitely gives off business vibes instead of the more common enthusiast vibe a small retro game store would give. However, the employees were great and I did not feel unwelcomed or a bother when I asked questions or to look at a game. My experience with Game Dude was extremely negative. I believe their business practices are dishonest and exploitative toward customers. If you plan to sell a console or a video game there, be very careful: they even charge you just to inspect your items and offer ridiculously low amounts for products that are in excellent condition. For example, they offered only $70 for a console and then claimed it had scratches to deduct more money. If you decide not to sell, they still charge a $15 "inspection fee", which is completely unreasonable. Their pricing margins are outrageous: a game that sells new for $70 might be bought from you for only $2, and then resold at nearly full price. In short, their valuation and buying practices are opaque and clearly designed to take advantage of customers. I strongly recommend not buying or selling at Game Dude. Platforms like eBay or other resale sites offer fairer and more transparent deals. Avoid this place if you value your money and your time. read more

Support small business! Game dude has been my go to for over 20 years now. They have a great selection of new and used games. Great selection of used movies and tv series too. Their new games are typically a few dollars cheaper than big box stores and again, it's a small business so I would rather give them my money over the big corps. They also buy your used games, video game systems and used movies. Might not be the best pay outs but sometimes it's better than just having them collect dust and taking up space at home. This place is really fun. I went to see about trading in some gaming equipment that I no longer use and they gave me top prices for them. The team there is really kind and super thorough which is refreshing to know as I plan to go back and purchase games for the system I am currently using. This place is amazing if you love retro games, and movies. The warehouse is pretty big, and so much stuff in here, that it's hard to concentrate on one area. They have everything from the last 50 years of video games all the way up to PS5 and Switch 2. New games and used. Some with boxes and some just cartridges. They have accessories for all systems, and even sell pretty much any console you're looking for. No matter what your budget, you'll find something here, from $1 all the way up to thousands for super rare games. The only drawback here is that everything is either behind glass (don't lean on glass) or behind the cabinets on shelves and only accessible by an employee. They do have paper lists of all games for all systems with prices, so you can search for what you want and ask an employee to get it for you. I had a lot of fun feeling nostalgic and spending a good 90 minutes in here, and walked out with 9 games for different consoles. They also have a rewards program. read more

Jessie help us we were looking for the PlayStation 2 they did not have anything there yet was sold out. I wanted to get the Mortal Kombat series but am waiting to get all. I also wasted to get the devs genesis with CD ROM . I need to go back every so often or call to see when some one sells there system. I gave been going there for years. All the movies and games are kept on shelves behind counters throughout the store at a distance you can't quite see the titles at - and all the glass counters in the way are poster labeled telling you that you can't lean on the counter so there's no way to get close enough to see anything. I asked what the solution was and they said sorry they couldn't let me get close enough to see. How is this a business model? And nobody even blinked an eye about the situation or my reaction which was to have to leave bummed without buying anything. This must be a daily occurrence. The first time I went here was when I was a teenager to sell some Wii games. I think I got a good deal for them. Recently, I've been going here the past 4 weeks to buy skylanders since I've been feeling nostalgic. I thought that I was getting them for a good price, each Spyro's Adventure figure is $3, each giant from Giants is $6, and each swapper from Swap Force is $8. It turns out that other retro game stores, not in LA, sell skylanders from Spyro's Adventure and Giants for $0.15 and $0.25. The Spyro's Adventure and Giants figures are supposed to be common so you'd think that they'd charge less. I know that retro game stores need to turn a profit, but they have a lot of stock. All the skylanders aren't shown through the shelves because the employees haven't gotten around to placing them there or there isn't enough space so it would make sense to sell the skylanders at a cheaper price. I wanted to sell some extra skylanders I had. Because the store was short staffed, I had to wait 40 minutes or so. When they got to me, I was told that they could only buy one for $0.50 since it's from Trap Team and it was in the starter pack. They already had enough of the others. read more

Had a good experience here before. I have only written a handful of bad reviews in my life, and I do so with great discretion. I don't care how busy you are, or how bad your day is, you should never talk down to a customer. Grumpy I can tolerate. This was next level. It was busy, so we asked for help and made sure they understood that we were in no hurry, and to take their time. It's Easter weekend and it was busy. Dorian snapped at us twice, the most rude customer service I've experienced in a decade. We tried to shake it off and diffuse the situation by letting him know that we didn't want any trouble, and reminded him that we would have waited as long as it took to be helped. No apology. Passive aggressive and derogatory. Brian took over after seeing how agitated Dorian was with us. I sincerely appreciate his willingness to help out and apologize for the inconvenience. Brian really is a kind representative. A little patience goes a long way with us. We've both worked in hectic and chaotic jobs for years. I know how stressful it is. Please be respectful and polite, as you'd like to be treated. read more

I've bought here before but this was my first and last time selling to them. I came in and brought a box of my games to sell. I gave the team member with glasses and shorter hair my box and waited about 30 minutes. He placed the box next to a bunch of other games since there were a few sellers there. Upon getting called to the register; the same guy started speaking really quick and would get mad when I said "no I'll actually keep the game" after offering me less than $3 for some titles. He had my games all over the place separated by many stacks stating some were broken yet I played them. I should have took it all back after seeing the disorganized area but I decided to sell a few games (5). On my drive home I did notice a game was missing. I drove back to ask and they were extremely quick to defend him and blame me and said they'll look but for me to keep checking in my car and my house. I called later on when I got home because I never found it. The guy on the phone said he did look then sarcastically said "we're not going to ruin our reputation over a $20 Mario game" yet they sell to customers it for $80+ if it's complete like mine. I told them - I'm not looking for any argument and just want my item back. They offered to get my phone number and once they returned my call they let me know they never found it. I was nothing but kind even though I never got my item back. That team was willing to defend that rude and disrespectful team member yet he lost and misplaced my game. read more

been coming here since 2005 when my older brother introduced me to them. the website isn't what it used to be. nothings updated; you have to call to request inventory prices or availability. the IG is literally just their SOCIAL media. they post deals and limited edition stuff or store updates but they don't have a menu of items available. BEST PRICES and best QUALITY hands down; their saving grace. you could go to best buy, target, costco, game stop (God forbid), or walmart and the prices will ALWAYS be better at game dude. which is also part of the problem when it comes to their service. they have warranty for all used products and always double down on the QA. i've never bought anything from them that's useless or they won't replace. CUSTOMER SERVICE could use work. most the time they're pompous, arrogant, know it alls. they'll continue conversation while screaming across the showroom with little to no regard of people in there. i had to linger at front counter while they conversed to get some attention (it didn't used to be like that). a paying customer walks in (i spent over 500) and they don't greet or welcome, they don't ask you if you need help or if you're looking for something. they just stare.. which is WEIRD. not everyone is familiar w the layout or structure of the store can't imagine what it's like for first timers. i've referred people only for them to tell me they couldn't get help and they ended up going to a corporate store that's not game dude. would be 5 stars if they updated their website and improved the social capabilities of their employees aka customer service. read more

I have been coming to Game Dude off & on for over a decade. I'm so glad that this wonderful used video game resource is available for those living around the valley. In my recent trip I was happy to see that the previous issue I have had (rude employees) seems to have been fixed. I interacted with several employees and all of them were incredibly friendly and helpful. I definitely had stayed away for a few years because of some bad interactions. The inventory here can be hit or miss. Especially on older consoles. They definitely favor inventory from consoles from the last decade or two. Beyond that and it can get tough. I recently came looking for games for a Jaguar and VirtualBoy I had. No VirtualBoy stuff and only about 3 Jaguar games. Yet the walls were full of PS2 era consoles and newer. I totally understand that, but just wanted to let you know that while they have a great selection, they might not always have what you're looking for for older consoles. I also appreciate that they are very upfront with their buy back and selling prices. A larger video game chain always leaves a bad taste in my mouth as it's obvious they're lowballing you with buyback prices. Not Game Dude. It's all right there on their website and in store. You can see a massive list of games, consoles, and accessories where they list the buy back prices, used selling prices, and new selling prices. I greatly appreciate that. They also used to do repairs. Looks like they don't do that anymore (bummed since my VirtualBoy has one lens that is acting up). So, if you're in the area and you have any console, stop by Game Dude. I've been coming here since 2007, and this place feels like an old friend. Today is July the 4th in 2022, and I came here today to buy a video game. In 2019, Game Dude started a huge July the 4th sale on used games, and today that tradtion continues! The prices they offer on July the 4th on used games can't be beat. Although, lately I've been buying games occasionally from the playstation digital store out of convenience. I don't know how much longer stores like Game Dude will last. Even Gamestop knows people are less likely to buy physical games, while currently over 60% of gamers buy their games digitally. I only buy physical games when they're much cheaper than digital, but that's rare. If Game Dude goes out of business, I will always have fond memories of coming here. All kinds of terrible communication-- they never answer the phone, never return messages, after multiple callback efforts, they "accidentally" answered the phone, claiming they were just about to call me back. We made an appointment for servicing, which they cancelled, but couldn't verify a firm reschedule date. I hope the owners realize how terribly they are being represented, and how much money this is costing them. Or, maybe they don't care! I went in to sell a brand new still in box XBox Series X still in box that I had received as a gift. I was told it would be 3 hours before they could test it and if all the tests came back good they would give me $250 for it. That is half the price of the unit and like I said it was still in box and sealed. I politely declined their offer and was able to trade it in elsewhere for $400. They have a huge selection but the customer service was abysmal and the offer and wait time were laughable. read more

He gave me attitude when I asked how much a game was and told me to look it up on their sheets, which I didn't know was a thing at the store. It doesn't help that they're located at one section of the store. His condescending attitude soured my visit, especially after I heard the same employee talk rudely to a customer over the phone. Selection is good. Employee/customer interaction needs a lot of improvement. First time I went, an employee told me USB Rock Band drums/Guitar Hero guitars were never made (false statement) and was insistent that I was wrong. Second visit, an employee gave me a bunch of smart-ass responses when I asked him a question about their pricing list vs. what they actually have available in the store. I think this was the same employee as my first visit, but I am not 100% sure. I know a lot of nerds have crappy social skills but at least try to maintain some decorum when interacting with customers. Reading the other low-star reviews on Google, it seems like lots of people have issues with a "dweeb with glasses"; the dude who was a prick when I went there had glasses, too. A few of the employees probably do, but it's also probably the same guy all these reviews are talking about. Regardless, I will not be returning to this store. read more
