Such a fun concept! I enjoy playing board and card games so it's nice to have a spot in the neighborhood I can go to play, meet people, and enjoy a snack, meal, or beverages. Game wise there really is something for everyone (even some kid games). The choices are quite limitless! Plus, you can bring your own. I even saw people working on some artwork. And I saw they host different social events, sometimes game specific, but not always. I've tried a few things here, but on my most recent trip I got the gluten-free chocolate chip muffic (just cuz it was the only thing left towards the end of the day that tickled my fancy) and it was seriously the BEST g-free baked good I've ever had! My children like board games, I like coffee, so Game Point was an obvious destination the last time we were in Nashville. They have so many different board games to choose from here: everything from cooperative games for preschoolers to Quirkle and Trouble, and Stratego and Trivial Pursuit to Exploding Kittens and card games like UNO. My older kid found the board game Splendor and was super happy. So we spent a good 45 minutes playing Splendor at one of the many tables in the restaurant. When we arrived (around 11 a.m.) there were plenty of tables available, but they soon filled up by around noon. I guess I should mention, first of all, how Game Point works. You can play with their collection of games, but you need to buy a beverage or food. When you're done with a game, you place it on a special shelf so staff can clean/organize it. You can play as many games as you want. We ended up only playing with one game (Splendor), but there are dozens and dozens of games to choose from, so I'm sure we could have spent a lot more time here. Game Point has a large beverage menu with lots of coffee options, and a smaller menu of breakfast and lunch options. I got a classic grilled cheese, with the intention of sharing it with my children, but they were so wrapped up in the game that they shunned all of my efforts of sharing my food with them. Oh well. More bread and cheese for me! The grilled cheese was really good, so I didn't mind eating it all myself. I also got a Grey Skies latte, which tasted of bergamot coconut cream, and was delicious. I highly recommend this one if it's on the menu when you visit! The only bummer thing about visiting this place is the parking! There are five parking spaces directly outside of Game Point, and some spots on the street, but if you don't get one of those free parking spaces, you'll need to pay for parking in one of the adjacent lots. read more

Such a vibe!!! This place had such a warm welcome just seeing all of the games along the wall! Boardgames to me will always be around, they really put the old form of communication and learning at hand. Especially if it's a brand new game to everyone at the table! I was walking by game point with my friends and was super intrigued by their games/winter menu selection. When I walked in, the person working at the counter was incredibly rude. When I said hello, they didn't greet me but rather turned the ipad around aggressively as if it was an inconvenience that I was ordering. I thought maybe they didn't hear me, so I said hi again, asking how they were doing, and again, not very friendly. In fact, they had their headphones in attached to their phone which I also found incredibly disrespectful and unprofessional, especially while working. I started to feel very uncomfortable and unwelcomed in that moment, but proceeded to order anyway. During payout, the card reader wasn't working, so I decided to walk out and not get the drink because of how rude and disrespectful the entire encounter was. I'm really bummed because I wanted to try this place out and have a fun game night with my friends, but it ended up being one of the least welcoming establishments I've ever been to. I've been working in hospitality/customer service for years now and this was by far my top 3 worst experiences I've encountered. I don't like writing poor reviews, but I really hope this story encourages them to do better and not treat patrons as unkindly as this barista did. read more

I wouldn't expect a game cafe without a entry free to have a wide selection of games but they had many shelves! You are free to stay as long as you'd like, and I found seating to be sufficient and the space clean and welcoming. There is a coffee shop, Bongo East, inside that sells food items as well. I got a gray skies latte which was quite delicious, albeit sweet! The steamed milk was creamy and perfect, although it could've been hotter. The AC is on blast here! My boyfriend ordered a summer iced latte drink with orange and added vanilla to it. Somehow it ended up tasting like creamsicle. Not quite my cup of coffee but I found the combination funny and interesting, so maybe suitable for those who don't actually like espresso! It was a perfect 1-2 hour spot to escape the heat and hide away from potential thunderstorms. I can easily envision myself spending more time there! Fourth morning in Nashville and 4th morning at Bongo East. Amazing, friendly, airy coffee house. Staff are all nice and accommodating. She had the muffin twice and oatmeal with fruit the first morning. She loved the oatmeal, even though she couldn't eat the fruit that came with it (bananas) that she is allergic to. Obviously loved the muffin, cuz she repeated on the freshly prepared tasty. Me? I had the fresh avocado with tomatoes, mini black beans, red onion, cheese and melt in your mouth good breakfast burrito. Rick is the game master and he would love to teach you to play that new game you've heard about, or settle that Catan rules debate your family has been having. I think there are two features of this gem that make it five star worthy. 1. Game Master - an asset like a game master is crucial because he helps people discover games that they would enjoy based on what they like and then teach them how to play those games so that the learning curve isn't as difficult. 2. Selection - I'd estimate between 125 and 200 games are available for your playing pleasure. It's like going to the book store and perusing and seeing all the fancy covers of books. That's what this feels like when choosing a game. Lots of old favorites, as well as hot new games. A bonus is that they also have a shelf with games for sale. So if you like a game you played, you might find it for sale. I would love to come here again to try out more new games. read more

We happened to stumble upon Game Point on our walk from Dino's to Pied Piper Creamery. After filling up on ice cream, we popped our heads in. We had really just planned to take a look and then get back to our plans for the evening, but we were enamored with the place and decided we could squeeze in one game. The deciding factor was that I found a cooler of Las Paletas popsicles -- we'd been dying to try them on our trip -- and we found a newer version of one of our favorite games. There was a young man and woman behind the counter who were helpful and kind during our visit. I was able to have a quick conversation with the guy to learn the history of Game Point. I also watched as he helped a new group narrow down options of games to play based on their interests. It was clear that the employees loved their work -- when traffic slowed in the shop, they picked up a game themselves and played at a nearby table. We enjoyed our popsicles and played a quick round of Fluxx. Our brief visit was great -- the space is clean and the vibe very chill. The bathrooms have some seriously creative art on the walls and it's worth a visit to catch a glimpse. If we lived nearby, Game Point would absolutely be a go-to hangout. There are a ton of drink and snack options, and I love the cupholders on the tables to keep condensation from making the games soggy. This is a perfect spot and it's a great fit for East Nashville. read more

Hard to have a complaint about this place. My wife and I stopped in on a Wednesday afternoon while in town and got some hot beverages and a cookie to share. I was there for the games, my wife...the coffee. While there is a $10 minimum generally for using the games, they told us to go ahead and grab one and enjoy ourselves as we didn't hit the minimum. We stayed about an hour and in that time there was a steady flow of in and out traffic as well as the usual cafe lurkers sipping coffee and working on their MacBooks. Tables vary in size and some of them even have built in cup holders to protect their valuable cardboard from accidental spills - nice! The tea choices are plentiful and they have caffeine free teas available if you are trying to avoid those afternoon caffeine jitters. My wife said her dark roast was very good and the chocolate chip cookie wasn't anything to complain about - soft and chocolately goodness! If we ever find ourselves in Nashville again, Game Point is on the list! read more

This is my favorite place in Nashville! They have so many games to choose from, and visiting Game Point has helped me discover so many games I ended up buying. I have always loved board games, but previously never explored much. I love spending an afternoon here trying a few different games, learning new variations, or even doing work here if it's not too busy. The staff here is also very knowledgeable and helpful, and you can tell they really enjoy helping people discover new games. The prices they have for their games for sale is also fantastic. If you find a popular game you enjoy, it's likely they also have it for sale with a price very competitive to retailers. This has been great for gifts. Anyone I have come here with loved it too. It's nice to see a business that is built around sharing experiences; you will see small kids playing games you wish existed when you were younger, to larger groups playing the classics. I was looking for a location to enjoy some time with family during the day, when we ran into this café. It is a board game café, and we were pleasantly surprised with the variety of board games they have available. The coffee was great and the cafe was consistently busy without being overwhelming or hard to find a place to sit. They do have a very small food and wine/beer menu as well, but I appreciate that alcohol wasn't the main focus. It is very family-friendly! They have a limited lot upfront with four spots but mostly depend on street parking. The board games are organized by player number and genre! They also provide staff favorites and suggestions. We played games ranting from operation (where the batteries were working!) to Catan to a drawing game (all markers were working & note pads wiped down). What a great find! It was our last day in Nashville, and we had a few hours to kill before heading to the airport. We stopped into game point and were so glad we did. My boyfriend and I had some local IPAs, and my dad had the raspberry beret matcha (which was so delicious). There were so many game options to choose from, divided into sections by type. This place is great! Tons of board games to choose from, and multiple copies of the most popular ones, so you don't have to wait for people to be done. We went yesterday, expecting to leave after a few games. We ended up staying for 9 hours! Without doubt, the best part of the experience is having someone on hand to explain new games. It allowed us to try several games we'd never played before and would have taken an hour or more to learn if we tried to sift through the rulebooks. Rick helped us learn Alhambra and Carcassone, which I have been wanting to play for a while. He was super friendly and really knows his stuff. With his help, we picked up the games in just a couple minutes. I have no complaints at all about my experience, but I do have a couple suggestions for ways to make the place even better. Firstly, I think it would be a cool idea to have a system for helping people find people to play games with. Sometimes I really want to play some games, but don't have enough friends available to make it work. What if there was a way to indicate that you're looking for more players to join your group? Some plastic signs for your table, or a dedicated "Looking for Group" area, or something. Secondly, more snack-type food options would be cool, too. If I'm staying at a business for multiple hours, I want to spend enough to make it worth their while. But I can only drink so much coffee. All in all, five stars. No question. read more
